Quite a Day….

by @ 8:30 am. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

So the first day in nearly three months in which I am unable to be around a computer, and what do we get? Possibly the most exciting recruiting day in recent memory. Evan has done a good job of breaking down the news below, but from my hotel in Franklin, Kentucky, I cant help but give a couple of quick beats….

Josh Harrellson: I am big on this guy and think the commitment is important. A big man who can step out and shoot the three pointer….exactly what Kentucky can use. Think a less developed Scott Padgett….that is what Harrellson can provide. We heard this weekend he would decide on Tuesday and he made his call early in the evening. It was clear in our conversation with him early in the day that Kentucky was his choice and now the Cats finally have a big man in the class. Good news.

Dominique Ferguson: What can you say? 2010 big man that the two guys who I trust most who follow recruiting tell me is “an absolute stud.” He was on my radar to see play this summer, and Gillispie goes ahead and gets him before we can even scout him. This could end up being the highest ranked player signed at Kentucky since Stone/Bogans. He is that good. An amazing piece of news.

Jon Hood: 2009 in-state player who has made a national splash. Told our own Evan Hilbert that Kentucky is now the leader. Considering that UT and Duke are on this kid, you cant help but be happy with this news. He could make a decision within a few weeks.

Add to that the fact that Vinny Zollo is visiting this weekend and we hear good things (2011 recruits however dont get me too excited too early) and this has been a banner day. 7th most hits all time on this site and the server didnt crash. Reason enough to celebrate. I was in the car with Joe and Ramel when the Harrellson news broke and both guys said, “good.” When the Ferguson news broke, Ramel said, “Damn, they gettin everybody.” Yes, yes they are.

When recruiting dies down a bit, I will tell a story from today in Franklin that will warm your heart and make you proud to be a Kentucky fan and proud of these Seniors. But until then, enjoy the good news…..banner day in the Bluegrass….

I can’t believe how incredible that was to see those names this morning! I will never go that long with out checking this website again! GO CATS!!!! GO GILLISPIE!!!!

  2. jacobk Says:

    cats rule today.

  3. IcemanG2 Says:

Matt - tell Ramel he needs to refer to UK as “we” from this day forward. Thanks. :)

  4. GoCats Says:

Am I the only person who can see only negative comments out of Tipton’s article today even though it was one of the best recruiting days in recent memory?
    http://www.kentucky.com/276/story/391103.html
He says Harrellson wanted to go to Missouri but they had no schollies available? I never heard Missouri ever discussed and I have been following the Harrellson stories for months.
He also feels the need to mention Kecman as being the second big man we lost in the last week. Maybe I am overly optimistic but I never really considered Kecman as even possible, even though some people on here believe he “secretly” verballed here. Whatever that means.

  5. CHunter Says:

We haven’t even lost Kecman. Tipton is an idiot.

  6. ibleedblue4uk Says:

Bryan the Intern must be loving the fact that the Suns and Shaq got
knocked out of the playoffs last night.

    Awesome day for recruiting.
Looks like Gillispie will play a more uptempo style offense with a smothering
defense. So we should be a top 20 team all year. Great day to be
    a Cat fan.

  7. KentuckyEXCLAVE Says:

Every major newspaper in the country has a “jerry tipton” on staff. That one sports writer that acts as a fan of the local sports team, but always slants his stories in such a way that he is against them.

  8. tmark Says:

i’m glad the cats got harrellson as billy g obviuosly knows more than i do but he isn’t a 3 point shooter. plus, he’s a long, long way from being close to scott padgett.

  9. KentuckyEXCLAVE Says:

8-totally, but respectfully diasagree with you. Not a Scott Padgett yet, but is very close behind. Ive seen him play about 5 times. He’s gonna be good, considering he only started playing basketball as a freshman in high school.

  10. jacobk Says:

    tipton sucks.

  11. GoCats Says:

Let’s talk comparisons: I heard Ferguson is the second coming of Kevin Garnett with his work ethic and skills in the paint. If he is half as good as Garnett then we have an incredible player.

  12. KentuckyEXCLAVE Says:

11- im having a hard time finding any stats on this kid. you have any info for me?

  13. GoCats Says:

#8 and #9 The comparisons to Padgett are totally and completely fair. Remember how Padgett was his freshman year? He looked lost out there and fans would yell “Run, Forrest, Run” when he was on the court as a freshman. He lost a year because of Academic suspension. Harrellson will definitely have the ability to meet the Padgett comparisons in the future. I think people forget how these players change from Freshman to Senior years.

  14. Thomas Beisner Says:

I think the past 24 hours can be best summed up by the phrase “sports boner”.

  15. GoCats Says:

    12) Here is some Ferguson info, not much in the way of stats though:
    http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=441 45&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.c om%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d44145%26season% 3d2010

  16. cablaw3 Says:

I’m not gonna begrudge Tipton this time - that was an obvious story about staying close to home. God bless this kid for knowing that a future in b-ball happens by going to a program and playing against the BEST, and thats what he will get here, now! Is the sky more KY blue today? I think so…

  17. cablaw3 Says:

    “Sports Boner”…classic.

  18. ukcatsfan2 Says:

    “Damn, they gettin everybody.”

Yes, Yes they are! Thanks Ramel and Joe!

  19. BillyClyde4President Says:

UK is on a pace to have the overall #1 ranked class for 2010. Ross-Miller will most likely be a 5 star and I see Euton maxing out as a 4 star and Ferguson is already a 5 star so I look for BCG to add at least two or three more 4 or 5 stars to that class.

  20. chuckmashburn Says:

Im feelin a buzz again. I hope Billy G saves whatever schollies are left, to get a decent 09 class with Vilirano. Hood, maybe Orton, with GJ would be nice. Then Ferguson, Euton, Ross Miller. I dont know much about Harrelson other than he wears jorts, has an L beard, and has nice form on his free throws, but I hope he can bang like Estill or something.

  21. BillyClyde4President Says:

WHOOOOOA!! Let’s not talk about his “banging” ability. LOL

  22. BigBlueJim Says:

Tipton does what he does to try to irritate CAT fans and get a response out of them and then he goes to his publisher and
says, “See the responses I’m getting, they love me!”. I would suggest we forget this peon even exists and ban his name from
this site. Great day to be a CAT fan!!! Maybe now the nay sayers will sit back, get off Billy Clyde’s back and just enjoy the
    ride! GO CATS!! BELIEVE!!

  23. funkadelic Says:

    No Cialis necessary.

  24. GoCats Says:

    20) I saw you challenged me to a game of one-on-one! I have a great jumper from 18-20 feet, you will never get a rebound from me and if you dont call fouls I am unstoppable! Weaknesses: I can’t dribble, and after two times down court I am wore out and need a sub!

  25. AZ Blue Says:

    19 - KC Ross-Miller a 5-star? I thought he had a mediocre year (I am asking, not an opinion).

On the other hand, I thought Euton was the projected 5-star.

  26. Katfanalways Says:

Lead, follow, or get out of the way. BCG does it again. Proud to be a part of the Blue Nation.

  27. chuckmashburn Says:

Estill was an excelent banger down low.

  28. chuckmashburn Says:

24- I have a crossover that could shake Rondo. If the game were to get tight, I would use this weapon and score the game winner. Unfortunately once you have seen it its over, and no longer good. I have put on 100lbs since its most effective days. 95,96,97, on a 9ft rim. I was like a white Shawn Kemp. I got dunked on one time, and that was by Wesley Cox whos son I believe plays for Ballard now. I think Grundy that went to NC State played there a couple of times. Those days are long gone. Maybe we should play 1 on 1 wiffle ball. Watch out for thr Llaredo Slider. I probably need to take up golf.

  29. GoCats Says:

    28) I used to be able to dunk but that was 50 lbs., 2 broken ankles, and 12 years ago so you don’t need to worry about me dunking on you.

  30. CAnTuckeeBoi Says:

25.) Ross-Miller averaged like 24 points 9 rebounds and 5 assists per game as a sophomore in Texas. I think that is a little better than average. Plus he had numerous triple doubles, and I think even came real close to quadruple doubles a couple of times with steals. He will more than likely be a 5-star player. Dakotah Euton will be good too, but I think he will more than likely fall in around 4 stars.

  31. CAnTuckeeBoi Says:

15.) Ferguson just now got back up to varsity level, I read somewhere that as a freshman he tore his ACL, came back and tore his Patella Tendon. He rehabbed* on the JV squad b/c his High School team has a gargantuas frontline. Lemme try to find that link for you….

  32. Kige Ramsey is the Oracle at Delphi Says:

In Scottsville, I recommend eating at either Martha Jo’s (if you don’t mind the heavy layer of smoke) or Earl G. Dumplin’s (yes, with an “’s”).

  33. Al Purnell here Says:

Martha Jo’s ? C’mon you might as well take them to Harpers Catfish!

  34. knmaynard Says:

Any knowledge of Brandon Knight, PG out of Florida? Class of 10; “Knight, who is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 2 sophomore and No. 8 prospect in the nation regardless of class . . .”

He lists Duke and a few other schools, but interestingly, TEXAS A&M is on the list. I’m thinking that the list is a bit dated, and possibly BGC and co. may be the reason TAM is on his list. Sounds like an amazing point guard, who could go straight to the NBA.

Not trying to start rumors, just looking for clues. This kid looks awesome.

  35. Kige Ramsey is the Oracle at Delphi Says:

Harper’s sounds good to me! NOW you’re talkin’.

  36. Dave C Says:

It looks like Clyde is right on track with all of the “Rational” opinions upon his hire, regarding how long it would take him to get U.K. back to the top. Looks like the 3rd year is going to be the magic number. Ferguson, according to the experts could possibly emerge as the top player of that class, being compared to the likes of K.G. Kids like this commiting are just like a talent magnet for others to follow. Good times ahead ladies and Gents.

  37. The Prince is King Says:

Also, don’t forget that the NBA is considering extending the eligibility to two years! We could be guaranteed two years of the 2010 class. Get John Wall in 2009 and they might as well put the 2010 National Championship banner in the rafters now…..what a day!

  38. BluesMan Says:

Josh Harrellson did not attempt a 3-Pt shot all season. He’s a big bodied banger who can step out to mid range.

    http://www.njcaa.org/schmain.cfm?sid=4&divid=1&gender=m&slid=2&menu=3& seasonselect=391&schmenu=4&cid=1571&report_id=2560&requesttimeout=500

  39. payne Says:

Well it was fun while it lasted. One more year then back to the SEC of yore when everybody else gets to play for second place. I like it better when you don’t know who is going to win the SEC.

  40. matt s Says:

KC Ross Miller averaged 11 assists per game last year and 8 or 9 rebounds to go along with his 24 to 26 points per game. Not to mention 50% from 3point land, 90% from freethrow land and an assist to turnover ratio of like 10:1! He had about 15 triple doubles last year as well. He’s going to be the man.

  41. ukfan2323 Says:

kc ross miller and dakotah euton are both 3 star players as of now. i hope they become 4/5 star players in the next two years, but they are currently ranked 3 star.

  42. I'm Just Sayin Says:

39 Is that a moment of clarity or sarcasm? That statement from you surprised me more than the Ferguson signing last night.

  43. payne Says:

42 - definitely not sarcasm. At least Pearl and Billy D can give the Cats a run for their money for another few years until they both leave for other jobs. After that it will just suck again.

  44. AppalachianWonder Says:

Can we please confirm wether or not Dominique Ferguson is indeed related to Turd Ferguson?

  45. cch010 Says:

dakaota euton will not be any more than a 3 star my friend plays against him in aau and he said he is not all that hes hyped up to be

  46. UKalltheway08 Says:

How come Josh Harrellson is rated a 1* star on scouts but a 3* on rivals?
