DaJuan Coleman, arguably the number two player in the class of 2012, is wide open at this point. The rising junior is a force at 6-foot-8 and rougly 280 pounds. He is dominant on the boards and can score, as well. According to his AAU Coach, Jim Hart of the Albany City Rocks, Coleman has ties with Syracuse but he believes that the big man is wide open. Among the schools on his list; the Orange, Ohio State, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Louisville, UConn, Florida and North Carolina make up his list. While the ‘Cuse are considered to be the favorite, there have been multiple reports out there that he is very interested in Big Blue.
Deuce Bello, a high flying 6-foot-3 shooting guard from North Carolina, plays with UK target Quincy Miller with D-One Sports. At this point, Bello’s list does not include Kentucky but he mentions that they are showing interest. Although it is not the most interest, you have to wonder if Miller and Bello could be a package deal that could be a possibility for the Wildcats.
Former eigth grade Kentucky pledge, Michael Avery, is headed to his third different high school in three years. Michael started out at Crespi in California, then transfered to Montverde in Florida. Now he will attend Impact Academy of Las Vegas in the fall. At this point, not much is going on with his recruitment since re-opening his recruitment right after Billy Gillespie was let go.
In the same ESPN telecast, Kentucky made the list of two top players from the south. Austin Rivers, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Florida, stated that he had a list of five; Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida and Kansas. His AAU teammate, Trevor Lacey of Alabama, who is ranked in the top thirty, has an all south list of Alabama, Auburn, Memphis, Tennessee and Kentucky. With both players having the Wildcats in their top five, there is a good possibility one of them will land in Lexington. Lacey moreso than Rivers as the mainstream idea is that Austin’s favorite is Duke.
Tony Wroten is backing off of a top five for now. At this point, he claims to be wide open and everyone is under consideration. Could this be the truth or is Kentucky still in the lead? Right now, Wroten is just naming schools who are recruiting him hard at this point.
A report broke early Wednesday morning that Oakland Soliders 6-foot-9 wing Kyle Wiltjer cut his list to four, out of the blue. In this report, it was stated that Kyle had narrowed his list to Kansas, Gonzaga, California and Oregon. That is not the case, however. When it was brought up to the Oregon native, he laughed at it and had no idea about the situation. Wiltjer’s list consists of Washington, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Virginia, UConn, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Texas, Gonzaga, California, Oregon and Kansas. Kentucky is yet to offer but could they pull one out before the end of the summer? At this point, everyone is equal in Wiltjer’s mind.
While California native Brandon Ashley picked up his Kentucky offer with much applause and excitement from Big Blue Nation, rumors started to come about. These rumors stated that Kentucky and Oregon were the frontrunners in his recruiting process. Ashley denied the rumors and the 6-foot-9 forward said he is wide open. Outside of UK, most of the top PAC-10 schools have offered Brandon.

Watch/read interviews of Miller and Wroten and compare their attitude to John Wall. Their “me, me, me” attitudes don’t make me feel good about their ability to mesh with a roster of other 5 star players and make the team better. Wall makes his teams better.
And Michael Avery becomes the latest poster child example as to why it is insane to offer scholarships to any kid who is not at least a junior. Three high schools in 3 years and criss crossing the country to do it. Sounds like the kid has some issues (grades?, attitude?, attention hound?).

5) I do agree with you but be careful comparing every kid to Wall. You are going to have a hard time finding anyone who measures up to both ability and/or leadership! Wall was just one of those special guys.

7) Fair enough. I don’t expect another John Wall at UK in my lifetime. My concern is the attitudes. Lots of guys have rxcellent b’ball skills, but the attitude can often make the difference in the good player vs a great player.

I think you are right. I even hold out hope that Knight may stick around for 2 or 3 years. Academics seem to be a priority for him. But when the NBA is offering millions you can’t fault anyone for taking the opportunity to go.
