That’s how people die
As the lull of Spring that Intern alluded to approaches us, our role as content providers becomes exceedingly difficult. With little occurring in the coming weeks, other than the obvious gridiron/recruiting updates, we decided that there was no better way to celebrate the offseason (read: fill the gaps) than with a subjective tournament!
Thus, we give you the Real King of the Bluegrass.
Same layout as the NCAA Tournament (minus the bunk play-in game), featuring four regions. Each region will consist of sixteen people, each important to the area for different reasons. The “games” will be played out on the pages of this website, and you have a front row seat! Better yet, you, the reader, will have input on who will be included in the tournament. Use the comments section to make your voices heard.
The regions:
Talking Heads: Obviously, this region will consist of the men and women who inform the masses. The likes of Jerry Tipton, John Clay, Rob Bromley, and even our own Matt Jones (1-seed lock) will be battling it out.
Sporting Men (and women): Again, this area needs little introduction. Jamal Mashburn, Dan Issel, and other greats will compete.
Business Class: We need help here. All we’ve really thought of is the guy that owns Outback and Papa John. I suppose horse owners and trainers can be added here.
Hollyrude: Ashley Judd and George Clooney will headline, with Larry Birkhead and Chris Hardwick rockin’ the slum. To save you a google search, Chris Hardwick used to host MTV’s Singled Out.
We will be limiting the field to those amongst the living, so Barbaro is out. Be creative, folks.
The regions will be completely unveiled Monday of next week, so you have ample time and little excuse not to contribute.

Absolutely Chris Hardwick. One of the funniest guys on the planet.
I think Long John Silver’s and Fazoli’s are both based out of Lexington too, so maybe the two guys who founded them could go in the business region, if they’re from somewhere in the state? If those restaurants aren’t based here, just ignore me. But regardless, definitely Chris Hardwick.

Isn’t the “Macho Man” Randy Savage from Lexington. I know his original name is Randy Poffo and I think him and his brother “Leaping” Lanny Poffo went to Lafayette. My brother graduated from there and was part of the 50th class and they looked up all the famous graduates from Lafayette and it is said the “Macho Man” graduated from there. If he did then he has to be in the Tourney.
April 10th, 2008 at 9:27 am
I love the Abe Lincoln reference in the list above…he’s still alive, right?
Woody Harrelson’s connection to Kentucky is he was involved in a little marijuana case a few years ago outta Marion County. Deal was he “planted” several hemp seeds in an organized event, was arrested, charged with cultivation, and argued that hemp is distinct from marijuana and therefore cannot be illegal to grow. He lost.
What about Alan Stein, owner of the Lexington Legends, in the business category? Good guy, and he brought baseball to the central bluegrass.
Oh, and that PurchasePro guy, he did great things in the business world….
