Facebook is delivering news left and right tonight. Tonight, Orton said he would finish his UK classes in California, and that his semester would be completed from there. I wish I had known about this option when I was in college, because I would have definitely chosen to finish my semester each year at UK-Berkeley after April 1. I have no clue how any of this will or will not effect UK’s APR rating, but if he can indeed finish his classes there, then I suggest all UK students go to the Dean and ask to finish them in the Cayman Islands and we can go as one big KSR family.
Either way, I am done with the Orton stuff for a while. We will know when we know. For now, lets just all be in agony at what looks to be the Duke path to the title.

Bull Shi-ite. It has been a bit since I was in college, but I would appreciate it if someone would explain how this is possible. If I missed this option, I’m going to be really pissed. I left my dream girl in Florida during Spring Break to go back to Lexington when I didn’t have to do so? I’m going to kick myself if I didn’t know about this study from abroad option. Sounds to me DO is in damage control mode.

Orton did have a lot going for him but did commit a ton of stupid fouls and offensive skills needed a little honing. Still can’t believe we r not in final 4 with a chance to cut em down. Disastrous shooting and not much better coaching.

i know once a cat, always a cat. but that isnt always the case. orton isnt a kid. hes a young man and his dad is a grown man yet he advises his son to drop out of school and go pro after a below mediocre season. he is a classic example of a father taking advantage of his sons talent to get rich himself. and that makes me sick. he is just like Xavier Henry’s father.

How many times was Orton in the game this year for his 2 minute spirt, and u were already done with him….? Crazy fouls trying to set screens, goal tending, not being able to finish , and then missing the free throws…. The only really consistent positive I seen was the shot blocking… I will be amazed if he goes first round….

how much training can you really accomplish in only 4 weeks? He has access to world class facilities at UK, along with trainers, etc. I don’t understand how having a few hours obligation each week to park your butt in a seat in class is really holding back his training. Clearly this has to be about more than what has been said.

Based on everything I’m seeing at this point, my opinion of Daniel Orton has gone from — He’s a class act in the mold of Patrick Patterson… to — he’s a completely selfish punk who needs to do some major growing up. Please leave asap Orton and spare us any more explanations via Twitter, et al.
Ok, that may be a little extreme, but probably deserved. And despite the way he’s treating the University and the fans, I still wish him well in his NBA pursuits.
Is this the way it’s going to be after every season?? Let’s hope Orton is not setting some sort of precedent.

Why is everyone concerned about the APR and a potential loss of a scholarship? Do you not remember last summer Cal saying that he rarely uses all 13 scholarships? He only practices 10 players and the others are left standing on the sideline. So what if we only have 12 scholarships if we have the best 10 players getting all of the minutes.

Matt- Hopefully, you are correct…however, I have this ’sick’ feeling that the Daniel Orton I’ve followed since Bishop McGuinness HS in OKC (where my children attended)may not be who I thought he was. ‘Watching’ his courage supporting his Mother during her, eventual, fatal illness and then facing a long rehab certainly made me a fan. I don’t post here often- but- I’ve always said that he was/is honorable (keeping his verbal to UK) and was/is a great addition to the Blue. Needless to say, I’m devastated if his early departure is true. As a Father, I would find it unconscionable to advise my child to just ‘give-it-up’ with no regard to the consequences and without at least gaining counsel from my head coach…you always ‘dance-with-who-brung-ya’…even if it’s one dance. The ‘trainer-from-Hell’ in San Francisco who he and PPat trained with last summer is supposedly one of the best…HOPEFULLY, Daniel has not burned his bridges…

I thought Daniel was a great role model type of “Cat”, but then his dad ran his mouth and showed what type of person he is, and then the last 4or5 days happened with Daniel quitting school. Whatever Daniel! I hope Cal NEVER recruits a kid like D.O. while he is Coaching at UK. Cal’s recruits like Wall,Cousins, and Bledsoe are perfect 1-And-Done kids to recruit. They respect Cal enough to at least finish classes before they become Multi-Millionaires.

Now, first off, The best 2 seed shouldnt have been in our bracket. I’m not making an excuse for losing because we deserved to with the way we played, but it shouldnt have been against WVU. Duke should’ve been the 4th #1 seed, and they got the 3rd. THEN they get the worst #2 seed. THEN, they are given the easiest region when the top two seeds (thats UK & KU) are given the hardest brackets.
I’m not saying there is a conspiracy, but the tourney was seeded about as poorly as I can remember it. Duke would’ve still beaten WVU in their region finals, we still would’ve lost if we played like we did in ours . . . I’m not arguing that at all. Oh, and 9 times out of 10, UK would smash Duke, they match up HORRIBLY with us.

Orton has been a child since the beginning and he still is a child. Don’t blame him because his daddy is a big fool. Daddy O wants the NBA bucks. I will make a prediction, “Ortion will never be the player he thinks he is”. Coach Cal invested a lot of time into Orton because he felt he had a future at UK (next year) then go onto the NBA. Orton did not embrace that energy by Coach and he will rudely pay for it by having the truth slap him in his face!

Lets not let duke and DO cloud our minds any more than necessary. I know there is some uncertainty and watching duke is literally affecting our health but don’t let yalls anger bubble over to where your mad at cal or your average one and doner. Stay focused. The only issue is whether or not our scholarships are affected.
Thats it…. If everyones gone, then it’s pretty appealing/flatout logical for a new set of studs to come in and help us next year. They’ve put off committing until they could figure out what situation is best for them…. What situation is better for them than a ton of minutes being available at UK? Especially UK right now…..they are garanteed exposure by playing here that they couldn’t get with 20 mil and 5 agents elsewhere. That’s if everyone leaves as expected…… If the amigos stay then we’re not as pressed for as many recruits and we’ll finish next year what we started this year. Either way we’ll have great players representing our beloved cats.
And I don’t know about u guys but I’m excited about miller and liggins. How upsetting is a starting lineup of knight, miller, liggins, Leslie and kanter? My answer is not one bit…..outside shot might be lacking again but it’s a team that we’d ralley behind and watch win the sec. Orton has tons of NBA potential. If he gets drafted in the first round, at the very least he can play in the D league and still make more than any of us could make in 20 years.. it’s a no brainer he can develop in the D League or at practice if he’s on an active NBA roster and it would be better than playing Alcorn State.

Yes cuz is an all American and that explains itself but if u wanna gauge how good they are, go back and peep Mohammed, magloir, estill or even big daddy Bowie their freshman years. People seem to forget how heavy footed and uncoordinated all of them were at 18. Orton is amazing but cousins is a godsend…… A once every 15 years kinda guy. It’s called preferential treatment and athletes get it. Especially if it’s going to save the university from taking a hit on their APR. UK will let him go do what he wants as long as he finishes out the semester. With all the things that have happened to the Orton’s i think Daniel is a bit lost in his life right now and isn’t making the best decisions. He’ll just have to find that out for himself. I also don’t think we know the whole story with him and Cal either. I think Cal towards the end was really trying to hype up Orton so he’ll have options after the season and leave. I’m not so sure he wants Orton on the team. At least that’s the way it appears to me.

I just think it’s funny that his family thinks he is so great. If he is so great he would have been playing ahead of Cousins. And they knew Cousins was gonna be at UK when he decided to go ahead and come. In a way, I hope recruits do see how we react to this. It would be different if he was Wall or Cousins leaving to do this. He was like one my favorites but not anymore. I’ll look forward to seeing someone with some offensive skills take his place. Duke was given a cake walk and no doubt in my mind that the NCAA selection committee didnt do this on purpose. They shoulda had Ohio St or WVU in their bracket along with some of teams but they got pretty much the weakest of every seed. I want uk players in the NBA and I want them to go after whichever season they choose.
