Bryan the Intern’s Picks to Click

 [medium_Picture+073.jpg]

As I continue to recover from my flirtation with death, I look at the lady above and feel a little better.  More on her later.  But, I will say this, if you happened to record last nights KSR (and I know so many of you did), then you have a classic piece of audio.  Here’s a quick transcript:

Matt: I think Rick Pitinio has been a dissapointment.  Look at that light pole.  It’s shaking really bad.  Oh my, I think we are going through a tornado.

Me: Look at the sky, it’s green.

(Lights begin flikering)

Matt: OK, I don’t care, we are gettin out of here.

(Lights go out)

Matt: AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!

Me: AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

Anyway, if you do have a recording, please send it to us.  On to the links:

1. Update of Alex Legion and his situation at Illinois.  I hold no hard feelings for the guy, and never will, but his loss will be felt big time next season, much of the same way Randolph Morris leaving has hurt the team this year.

2. Allright, thats 2 games in a row that Perry Stevenson has played well.  I honestly don’t care what has clicked for Perry, just as long as he plays half as good as this the rest of the year.  The Herald-Leader is saying that a major reason for his strong play is that he is no longer “soft”.  Personally, I don’t think his hands have ever been soft.

3. The Cats swept SEC honors last week, and they were well deserving.

4. Those damn Vols have shown the gap between them and the Cats football program once again, stealing away one UK’s prized recruits.  Willie Bohannon from Alabama committed to UK in Decemeber, but backed off and now has gone with UT.  Not only is this a big loss for the Cats because it was one of their most promising recruits, it also shows why it will always be difficult for UK to recruit big time kids because the major programs can always come in and swipe those kids away.  UK will ALWAYS have to win using unheralded recruits, but I think it worked pretty well the last 2 years.

5. No Ray Allen, No KG, No problem for the Celtics.  Rajon Rondo crushed some of his critics who say he only has played this well because he has 3 all-stars around him, scoring 23 points in leading Boston to a 30-point win over the Heat.  Rondo’s season averages: 9.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.4 apg, 49.2 fg%.  While he still only hits 28% of his 3-point shots, he has developed a nice mid-range jumper and continues to be great at finishing around the basket.

6. Here it is: TECMO Bowl simulating the Super Bowl.  Remember, this video game has correctly picked 8 out of 10 postseason games.

7. Tom Brady is just getting annoying.  He doesn’t even have to try and get women anymore.  Even reporters (pictured above) go all googly on him, and go so far as to propose.  It’s just not fair.

  1. 69Z Says:

Alex Legion will be missed possibly next year but he was always going to be behind Jodie Meeks. As Meeks and Jasper got healthier Legion saw he wasn’t going to get very many minutes. That coupled with his difference of opinion about how important defense and practice were with BG made him decide to quit. That kind of attitude is never going to work at UK while Gillispe is here. I like that.

  2. gatoferoz Says:

    sick

  3. deWildcats Says:

I won’t miss Legion, nor does the team. Odd - they really started coming around after he left.

  4. fuzzyzeller Says:

Intern, that is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. First of all, we won’t miss anyone who doesn’t work hard and can’t play any defense. I don’t care how well he can shoot. Second of all, to compare him not being here next year to Morris not being here this year is laughable. C’mon, you’re better than that Intern. Aren’t you?

  5. goukcatsgo Says:

Why the negativity Bryan? A, we won’t miss Legion. We’re going to have more depth at guard next year than we have this year with Meeks and Jasper healthy and Liggins and Miller coming in.

Second, our recruiting is MUCH better this year. If we have another bowl season with a win, we’ll see another huge upgrade in recruiting. If we land boyd and McAdoo I think that will secure the most 3* + recruits in possibly program history.

do some research before you bring such doom to this fine blog…

  6. Bryan the Intern Says:

    4. I would much rather have a guy who has been in the system one year then holding our hopes on two FRESHMAN!!
    5. It was not a negative comment. When I talk about big time recruits, I mean 4 and 5 stars. UK is doing just fine with 3 star recruits, and yes this class is one of the better in school history, but it still doesnt have 4 and 5 star kids, and if it did, UT or other programs would steal them

  7. ukrick Says:

Comparing the loss of Legion to Morris is absolutely ridiculous!! Legion was not an established player or impact player when he left.

  8. Bryan the Intern Says:

this year, Morris would have been huge, giving Patterson a big help in the post, next year Legion would have stepped right in next to Meeks and been dynamite, instead we will be depending on Liggins and Miller and I never like depending on freshman, Patterson has been an anomoly, more than the norm, Legion would have given the Cats some stability

  9. goukcatsgo Says:

#6-It takes time… You said uk will ALWAYS have to win with unheralded recruits. Why will our recruiting not keep improving with another solid season? A big reason why a lot of kids didn’t come on board this year is because they want to see it done without Woodson, Burton, Woodyard and company.

To say ALWAYS, is just plain silly.

We aren’t deep this year because meeks and Jasper are so injury prone. IF they prove to be healthy next year, with the addition of Liggins and MIller we will be deeper. Why? Because a healthy liggins and Miller is better than an unhealthy Meeks and Jasper, and a healthy meeks and jasper is better than Bradley and a fragile Crawford…

  10. fuzzyzeller Says:

    6. I’m not saying 2 freshman will contribute more than he would as a sophomore. I’m saying comparing his loss to that of Morris is crazy. Besides, I’d rather have two good freshman who buy in than a sophomore who won’t.

  11. fuzzyzeller Says:

And oh yeah, not to mention our recruiting class isn’t done yet. It won’t just be 2 freshman.

  12. 69Z Says:

Liggins and Miller will thrive in BG’s system. You are wrong. Legion and stability in the same sentence really proves that.

  13. goukcatsgo Says:

Further, what makes you think that Legion would have been any good next season? He clearly wasn’t buying in to BCG’s system. Suppose he stays? Why would he suddenly have bought in?

Your argument holds no water. It’s based on the assumption that Legion would have suddenly not been a primadonna.

  14. Bryan the Intern Says:

in 1998 and 1999, Cats went to 2 straight bowl games with an exciting style and recruiting didnt pick up, and Hal Mumme was freakin cheatin!!! I completely agree though that if the Cats can go to a bowl next year without Woodson, Little, and Burton, then recruiting should pick up, but there are too many big time programs around UK (Tennessee, Ohio St., Notre Dame, and the rest of the SEC power) for the Cats to consistently get 5 star guys

  15. deWildcats Says:

As for football recruits - UK is chasing after better players, three/four stars - naturally, we will not get them all - nor will UT or Louisville - but the staff is setting the bar higher and doing a great job getting solid talent. Besides - Willie Bohannon - hasn’t signed anything yet!!!

  16. Bryan the Intern Says:

oh please, you think UK can steal a guy that has now committed to UT, now who’s being unrealistic

  17. goukcatsgo Says:

Bohannon is gone. He was looking for something bigger from day 1.

Did you really just compare this staff and our two straight bowls to Claud and Mumme? You just proved a lot.

Further, our class is actually pretty close to UT’s. Granted Ut’s class is down this year. But your comment was an absolute. And my friend, we are proving this year that you are wrong.

  18. Bryan the Intern Says:

how many 4 and 5 star kids does UK have committed? How many??

  19. David Shelton Says:

A bad season next and UK FB is
    back where it started.

  20. Bryan the Intern Says:

I will tell you how many: ONE (Winston Guy), and thats all I was saying, instead some people want to just make a fight out of nothing, was I being critical of UK’s program, NO, its just the 4 and 5 star guys will ALWAYS go to the bigger schools, leaving UK will the best of the 3 stars and maybe an occasional 4 star, its how its been and it how it will always be

  21. goukcatsgo Says:

You never mentioned anything about 4 and 5 star recruits in your entry, nor have I.

You implied that our recruiting wasn’t improving and that we would ALWAYS, i repeat, ALWAYS have to win with unheralded recruits.

I disagree 100%. Why? Because we are proving this year that we have improved our recruiting.

You spoke in an absolute. I am saying, A. It’s improved this year, and could prove to be even better if we get a couple to commit down the stretch.

Further, if we win 7 or 8 again next year (VERY POSSIBLE WITH OUR SCHEDULE) we will once again see another big step up in the recruiting class.

  22. Bryan the Intern Says:

I consider 3 star guys unheralded, im this sense they dont get the national reputation

  23. cats123 Says:

was burton, woodson, little, or woodyard a 4 or 5 star recruit?

  24. Bryan the Intern Says:

woodson was a 4 star, but the other guys were not and they WERE unheralded when then came in, you are prving my point that UK needs to recruit what they can realistically get and then develop those guys in the same way they did little and woodyard, I think they are recruiting perfectly right now

  25. goukcatsgo Says:

But you said ALWAYS and I disagree. I think if we get 7 or 8 wins next year you will see a BIG jump in recruiting…

  26. Bryan the Intern Says:

    UK Class Rankings:
    2002: 70th
    2003: 54th
    2004: 52nd
    2005: 62nd
    2006: 34th
    2007: 58th
    2008: 50th****
Where is this drastic improvement in recruiting everyone is talking about, but I again I would emphasize that UK is recruiting perfectly right now, get the best 3 stars you can get and develop them

  27. goukcatsgo Says:

#26- We aren’t finished, throw in MCadoo and Boyd (odds in our favor) and that jumps up to the 30’s…

  28. shmu evans Says:

Intern, I agree, it will always be difficult to UK to recruit big time kids. Currently we are not on the same level as other big time programs making it that much harder for us to convince 4 and 5 stars to come to UK.

  29. LeBowlingAlley Says:

I feel like Bryan generally says at least 1 thing in each post that is full of sh*t.

  30. shmu evans Says:

    29….I also agree with that.

  31. Bryan the Intern Says:

    29-30 I agree too

  32. fuzzyzeller Says:

    29-30-31 Bingo.

  33. Da Bad Guy Says:

    Thought Legion went to ND

  34. Hiawatha Says:

Well I’m truly sorry I missed the show last night, but I was preoccupied with worrying about if my house was going to get blown over. You guys HAVE to post that when you get a recording!

  35. Bryan the Intern Says:

who is this intern, he is an idiot

  36. Spica Orbit Says:

    David Shelton Says:

A bad season next and UK FB is
    back where it started.

Now that we’ve heard the same theme from you for like the thousandth time, how about something different. Maybe drop dead….nobody really cares about you & your ‘tude anymore.

    S.O.

  37. ransmith Says:

I’m sure Legion will do well, and UK will miss his talent next season.

However, the team really will not miss him, he simply was not a good fit for this system.

There would have always been some level of issues, and it would have hurt all the elements of a team, more than his talent would help.

  38. Bryan the Intern Says:

joe crawford has had issues with both coaches for 4 years and people had tolerated it, the reason legion doesnt get the same opinion is because he deserted his team mid-season, and i can accept the bitterness, but i also can admit he would be the 3-4th best player next year, a guarentee starter, and a double digit scorer

  39. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

    Bryan the Intern,

Is it too late for us to steal Shelvin Mack from Butler? From what I see this kid is a winner. He has the size and the ability to score. Plus he is from right up the street. Has he already signed his letter of intent? Was this kid already committed to Butler before Gillispie got here? Just curious. This kid sounds like a winner to me. I think we will regret not getting Mack. What are your thoughts on him?

  40. Bryan the Intern Says:

no he has not signed his letter of intent, but I have not heard anything about UK recruiting him

  41. halfcourtshots Says:

Legion was not a guarnteed starter for next year. Unless he learned how to play defense that was never going to happen. I hold no ill will towards Legion, I really do not care. I think it is pretty silly to compare his loss to the loss of Morris. Morris was our leading scorer and only proven post player. Legion played six games.

  42. 69Z Says:

No way Legion was a guaranteed starter next year. No way. He was going to play behind Meeks the rest of Meeks time at UK.

  43. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

    Sorry Bryan,

How it will always be. I’m not so sure about that, but I do think that the only way for UK to start getting 4 and 5 star recruits is to hire a big named coach. Not that I’m against Joker, but he will bring the same level of talent that Brooks does. If we hired a big name like a Spurrier or a Petrino(Not that I want either of those guys)then we would get the big time recruits. If we arent going to do that then we must perfect the way we do things which is sign 3 star guys and develop them.

  44. Bryan the Intern Says:

the comparison between Morris and Legion was strictly on the basis on giving stability and experience at their particular position, and who was gonna start in place of Legion? It would have been Jasper, Meeks, Legion, Patterson, and Stevenson/Coury/Harris? Now you probably have Harris in Legion’s spot, meaning another offensive liability, i dont dare say that legion’s production would have been equal to morris’, only that he brings stability and experience, and morris was often a pain in the ass during his time at UK, so was Rondo and Sparks and Crawford, so dont act like we have never had players that are pains in the ass

  45. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Have you seen anything on this kid. He seems to be a great prospect.

  46. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

    Bryan,

So tell me what you think of Mack.

  47. Hiawatha Says:

If I had to guess, I’d say our starting 5 for next year would be:

    PG/LG - Jasper
    SG - Meeks
    SF - Miller
    PF - Stevenson
    C - Patterson

I don’t think Legion would start over Meeks, but I do agree it is a significant loss and its silly to root for him to fail elsewhere.

  48. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

How was Pat Sparks a pain in the ASS?

  49. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

I agree #47 and you will have another Jasper type player coming off the bench for Jasper in Deandre Liggins, but if you look at it we have no depth for next year whatsoever. AJ Stewart and Ramon Harris will be the only decent players coming off our bench. We need another point of 2 and another Center.

  50. Bryan the Intern Says:

he was fat and only gave effort on the defensive end of the floor every so often, off the court maybe not so much, but on the court he was wasted potential in alot of ways, although he did hit those free throws against louisville so he still gets a pass i guess

  51. Bryan the Intern Says:

check back at 2PM and I am posting about all of UK’s 2008 remaining prospects and I will add in Mack too

  52. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Free throws against UL, Took over some games in the SEC and 25+points in those. He tried to win us the game against UCONN in the Tournament and He hit the three against MSU in the Elite Eight to send us to overtime. Pat just isn’t a defensive player. BCG would have turned him into one though. I wish some of our past players could play for BCG. I wonder how much better they would have been. Pat would have LOVED BCG.

  53. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Thanks man, I may be wrong but he seems to be a winner.

  54. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

Pat did get fat. When he was skinny in High School he was quick and could get to the rim. I will give you that he did get fat and it hampered his quickness.

  55. goukcatsgo Says:

P Sparks would have thrived under BCG’s system. Problem is, Tubby’s laziness is what caused Pat to get fat along with our other players who were so out of shape…

  56. krebscalledmeagirl Says:

Im sorry but Legions loss does not compare to Randolphs loss. If we had Morris this year, we probably have 3 losses. Legion wouldnt make a dramatic improvement to our team, next year, if we still had him.

  57. GoCats Says:

Does anyone else agree that no games in the middle of the week sucks? We need a game so we can go back to talking about how great Patterson is and we will all stop fighting!

  58. Bryan the Intern Says:

its all that stupid intern’s fault, he sucks

  59. 69Z Says:

Legion was the odd man out. He saw that and quit. Morris started 3 years in a row at UK. Legion would have sat on the bench once Meeks and Jasper returned. There’s absolutely no comparison. All of the other examples you compare to Legion have one thing in common. They didn’t quit.

  60. ukcatsfan2 Says:

Sure do wish I could view that picture!

All I see is small red X

  61. Bryan the Intern Says:

right click on the X and then click “show picture”

  62. GoCats Says:

#58 you have to admit intern, you have created some lively debates in the past few days. too bad interns work for free

  63. halfcourtshots Says:

There is no doubt that losing Morris really hurt this team. I just do not see how Legion is the same thing. We have players returning at his position and are bringing in recruits as well.

  64. MuhlenberCountyCAT Says:

    Hey Bryan the Intern,

I have one more question. How much money does Matt make a year to do the Radio Show?

  65. Marshall in Virginia Says:

Losing Willie hurts but those stars aren’t everything

  66. Bryan the Intern Says:

    64) sorry, I cant tell you that

  67. Marshall in Virginia Says:

    #66 Bryan the Intern

    #64 good question lets gamble

Bryan the Intern -where is Arterio Arnold? I think thats how you spell his name.

Last word on him was he might not be eligible. Anything?
