Orton explains

by @ 8:49 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

It was the most surprising incident in today’s game as a normally mild-mannered Daniel Orton got a little intense with Coach Cal and made an early (and brief) departure for the locker room.  After the game, the world’s biggest cartoon fan explained what happened.

P.S. i know i already posted this but it was in the hundreds and i dont think people read all the comments

  6. Paducah UK Fan Says:

I was leaving the arena here in Nashville after the game today. Bruce and his thugs were loading onto the bus. Ask Bruce where he was going, he said they were headed for the rock. Not sure if he meant heading for Rocky Top, but feel like he meant he was looking for a rock to crawl under. The Cats gave them a lesson in Basketball. Go CATS!!

  7. Bigbluecalizone Says:

Ain’t that what a lot of folks call Prison? You do the math.

  8. Bob's Sal Groove Says:

Can’t get the video to play. Someone please tell me what Orton said and please be serious. I’m on limited time here at work.

  9. Blondie Says:

He meant they were looking for a crack rock

  10. actually Says:

Orton is going to be a monster for us next year … re-writing what it means to be a beast at UK

  11. Jake_GOCATS Says:

    8. He basically said it was a “heat of the moment” type of thing. He said he wasn’t even really talking to Coach Cal, but to the other assistants. He also said there was a lot of trash talking going on between UK and UT during the game.

  12. actually Says:

#8 Orton just said (repeatedly) that he had been reprimanded for not getting a loose ball … and that he had directed comments to Antigua to the effect that he also thought Bledsoe had a chance to get the same ball … Cal took exception and sent him off, Scott Pad. calmed him down on the way to the tunnel…he returned shortly thereafter and it was over after that…summed it up as “heat of the moment”

  13. VilleCat Says:

Would not endorse a player talking back to a coach but have wanted to see Orton have a fire about him. He will be very important the rest of the way and next year.

  14. Mack Says:

    Just a little Wildcat passion.

  15. Chris Collinsworth Says:

Did i miss the big political announcement?

  16. OwensboroCatFan Says:

Damn. I just got back from the D-2 Regional here in Owensboro and #1 seed KY Wesleyan lost by 2. :( I’m glad my favorite team kicked a$$ today.

  17. Jake_GOCATS Says:

    15. What exactly was the big political announcement. They postponed it about 10 times lol.

  18. CalifCatFan Says:

#17: the big political announcement was that Matt had seen the light and was now going to vote Republican. :)

  19. Soap MacTavish Says:

#15 - They were going to try to get BTI in, I think, the state senate race. But at the last minute, they realized/remembered some rule (I think he might have been too young? I don’t remember exactly) and then had to call it off. True story.

Also, does anyone think that if we were to run Mississippi State out of the gym tomorrow in somewhere near the same fashion we did to Tennessee today (or maybe by 15-20), that we could potentially have consideration for the #1 overall seed? If we thrash Miss State like we did Tennessee, I think you could make the case that lately we’ve been playing better than Kansas.

  20. Soap MacTavish Says:

And that should actually be directed to #15 and #17.

  21. Bluejay Says:

You GOT IT RIGHT Kiffin,…when it is all said and done……at the end of the day, WE’RE STILL KENTUCKY and they are still Tennessee, THANK GOD!!!!

  22. OwensboroCatFan Says:

19.) They were trying to register BTI in the House race that John Yarmuth(sp?) currently holds, so that BTI could enter a televised polital debate with him. Of course it was for laughs and not BTI really wanting to be a member of Government. In the end, it wasn’t allowed and they had to scrap those plans. That was the Big Political Announcement pretty much word for word.

  23. Pat 4Head is a Jagoff Says:

The SLAM Magazine with UK on the front is in the bookstores in Louisville TODAY! If anybody wants one you better get one fast!

  24. Pat 4Head is a Jagoff Says:

WHAS TV in Louisville is going to have a live pregame show starting at 12:30 Sunday from the SEC Tourney.

  25. Matt Jones Says:

Almost missed the start of the second half. Had a massive case of mud butt and couldn’t get out of the bathroom. My underwear could not be saved, as I sharted on my way to the can.

  26. Megan Skaggs fanclub Says:

Joe Lunardi has UK playing the winner of Travis Ford v. Rick Pitino show down in the East bracket.

  27. UKalltheWAY Says:

Has anyone heard anything about Pearl’s post game comments? I haven’t seen any links for it or anything

  28. Not So Fast, My Friend Says:

Is the podcatst going to be up tonight?

  29. Matt Jones Says:

Ha! I just pretended I’m Matt Jones!

  30. BigBlueWestCoast Says:

    27. I haven’t heard them in full, but I did read a quote from him complimenting the Cats D … he called KY “the best defensive team in the conference.”

  31. TheBigBooyah Says:

From the point Bruce Pearl started telling the UT fans to get loud, we outscored them 29-6. I repeat…his team scored 6 points after he told the UT crowd to get loud, from the 10:00 minute mark on…….Thanks Bruce!

  32. Brittney Griner's fight coach Says:

I can smell the SEC title!!! When UK wins tomm all the ESPN commentators won’t be able to say that the zebras helped. Bring your cow bells Mississippi State, won’t hear them with 18,000 UK fans screaming!! Go Cats!!

  33. Brittney Griner's fight coach Says:

Hope they show Miss St fans. They make me feel better about myself!

  34. SUPREMECATS Says:

i dont give a $hit what happened…this team needs an attitude adjustment…enough tantrums, barking at coaches, and crap…grow up Cats…otherwise, great win.

  35. Ich Heisse Neil Says:

27 - Go look on secsports.com They have all of the official quotes there.

  36. SUPREMECATS Says:

i dont care what happened…these young men need an attitude adjustment…enough tantrums, talking back to coaches, and pouting…if you’re that weak mentally, you won’t make it for 6 games in a row come tourney time…otherwise, great win.

  37. Ich Heisse Neil Says:

    27 - Here ya go.
    http://www.secsports.com/sport_stats/basketball/2010%20Tournament/UT4. pdf

  38. SUPREMECATS Says:

god damn this site and the double post….lol. anyway, i like my second one better.

  39. scratchfever Says:

watched ku play tonite. no way they beat us if we bring our A game.

  40. Ich Heisse Neil Says:

36- Overall these men have had a pretty good season. We are the 9th youngest team in the country (if Jimmy Dykes didnt tell you that enough). I understand that they should keep their cool, but have you noticed this crap happens more when we play UT? Also, I would hate to think I had to have that much pressure on me when I was 18 or 19, and then was expected to act like a fifty year old man throughout the entire season. What about you?

  41. Ich Heisse Neil Says:

39 - Cole Aldrich is OVERRATED. He is just a big white guy. He is slow, he has NO post moves. Cousins would eat his lunch, EAT IT HARD. Sherron Collins is ALWAYS good for at least 3 turnovers in a row when the game is tight, which tells me he is clutch, but ONLY when they absolutely have to have him be. (You know like at the end of the cornell game)

I HOPE we play Kansas. It would be a good game but we would win 8 out of 10 times.

  42. scratchfever Says:

40–hope you’re never drafted when you’re the tender age of 18 after worrying about it all thru high school. that was pressure.

  43. Ich Heisse Neil Says:

So I get my post about how we would beat Kansas taken down????

It wasnt a bad post, and actually summed up the situation pretty well.

    Ok????

  44. Ration-L Says:

36 - 38 How can it be a double post when the two are different? Don’t blame the site for your negative-nancy-ness

  45. Soap MacTavish Says:

#22 - There we go. I knew it had something to do with a state congressional race but I was fuzzy on the details lol. Thanks.

  46. joeb Says:

41–aldrich should play with ogilvy. the could be the Twin Towers of Paste.

  47. SUPREMECATS Says:

40–you are entitled to your opinion, but in my youth, when i played sports, i knew how to act and keep a cool head (for the most part) way before i was 18 or 19.

  48. SUPREMECATS Says:

44—i thought the first one didnt post, so i changed it.

  49. Discretion Photo Says:

Cal takes a unique approach with his players, let them share their inputs, and frustrations, and he has all season long. He treats them like men and values their opinions, but moments like today are bound to happen. I think it shows Cal’s ego is in the right place that a simple “my bad coach” fist bump was all that needed to be “said” by Orton.

  50. Ky76 Says:

jeez oh pete…we won the game…shut the eff up….I mean really….It’s fan’s like you that I want to punch in the forehead….

….you know who that was meant for….

  51. Ky76 Says:

Mr. Beisner….How is your child’s health?? Hope all is well.

  52. angry boogie Says:

Did anyone else watching the game get scared when Boogie turned around and slammed his fists together at Goins? He would be the last person I’d hit in the balls but then again tennessee players aren’t that intelligent anyway.

  53. Matt Jones Says:

My a@s is on fire, can’t get off the pot. Beisner may have to run the live blog tomorrow. Feel like I have lost 5 pounds.

  54. God is great Says:

    Hey Tennessee, who’s your daddy?

  55. MGH Says:

DeSean Butler is as clutch as clutch gets.

  56. BPsycho Says:

    0:50 ” Cousins trys to make a distraction “

  57. Crazy Talk Says:

    47. Maybe if you had the fight and fighters attitudes that these kids have you wouldnt be relagated to posting on a board and you would be playing somewhere. I love this team because they dont take sh*t, and they fight hard. Sometimes when you have passion and desire things like that happens. Give your ol school attitude a break. Or go hang out with all the hasbeen coaches that want the fire and brimstone coaching techniques that dont work anymore, hell go hang out with Bobby Knight, or better yet Billy G, they sound like your type of losers.

  58. Blueyouaway Says:

Rick Stansbury making a plea on TV for UT & Vandy fans to not sell their tickets to UK fans and to attend the game & cheer for his Bulldogs….. Good luck with that Rick…

If I’m a Vandy or UT fan do I :

    A. Go to the game & cheer against UK

    B. Sell my tickets for 500 each to a UK fan ?

    You make the call…lol

  59. blueblue Says:

    #55
I’m hoping Duke loses tommorrow (who they playin’ anyway??). I would rather see WVU get the fourth #1 instead of Duke. Probably won’t happen but I am rooitng for it. Also, has anybody else noticed who has made their way to the finals of the Big 10 tourney?? TUBBY!!! Good luck to coach Smith!!

  60. bballdoc Says:

I’ve watched the Big East and the Big 12 championship games tonight. The losers, Kansas St and Georgetown, are WAY better than anyone in our league except UK. No way our schedule has been as tough as what teams in those leagues played.

  61. Pat 4Head is a Jagoff Says:

After, UK kicks Miss. St’s *ss tomorrow Big Cuz can tell all the MSU fans that called and texted him, “CAN YOU HEAR ME HOW?”

  66. uk3 Says:

of course tubby has his golden gophers playing for a big ten title yet drove UK into the ground his last two seasons - boggles the mind

  67. bob Says:

After tomorrow it will be Miss. St. - head coach Rick Stans”buried”. but seriously, he’s one helluva coach to take such an irrelevant basketball program (and university for that matter) and have them in contention in the SEC every year.

  68. catfansince1970 Says:

    # 66 - Quit hatin on Tubby u prick. U remind me of the republicans still blaming everything on Clintons penis 12 yrs later.

  69. sethicus59 Says:

66 oh yeah winning 20 games and still being an 8 seed in the tournament is REALLY driving kentucky into the ground.

get a life dude and quit ripping tubby.

  70. CatFanLex Says:

    From the Knoxville paper:

“They were letting them play jail ball out there,” said UT post Brian Williams, who suffered a strained back when he took a shove from behind in the first half. “We lost our composure and tried to do the same thing as them, and we got whistled for technicals and flagrants.”

  71. Cashville Says:

Not trying to bash Tubby here, but winning 20 games & being an 8 seed isnt what UK basketball is about. It might, however, be what Minnesota basketball is about & more power to the Tubster & that program if it is. UK is about 180,000 fans converging on Nashville to watch the Cats roll thru the SEC tourney on their way to a potential National Title.

  72. UK Legion Says:

wow if Brian Williams actually said that I might consider dubbing him the stupidest player on UT which I hear is a pretty tight competition and also that forum post about Goins putting a bullet through cousins brain…. like are we serious? lets get a reality check

  73. Billy G Says:

    Do you have Dr. Pepper?

  74. Art Vandelay Says:

    68 and 69– Amen.

  75. Well.... Says:

    74– No.

  76. TubbysHubby Says:

    75– Prick.

  77. Lariat X Says:

    I really like this kid

  78. OwensboroCatFan Says:

If there is anyone awake this morning, I have a question for you. Are you having trouble getting tweets for March 14? My twitter page erased all the tweets on my page all the way back to March 11. I can’t get any new updated tweets from anyone.

  79. Ho-Dogg Says:

    78)

    I got the same thing

  80. BravoBigBlue Says:

With 3 refs on the floor and with Cousins’ ON-THE-BALL screen of Goins, there should have been a call WHEN Goins elbowed Cousins. Why did it take Cousins’ getting a T for the refs to finally get the call right? Bush league refs.

I’m glad Orton stood up for himself numerous times during the game. That’s what it takes. We’ve had more than our share of passive big men in our past, going back to the way-overrated Bret Bearup.

I hope Tubby does beat Ohio State today. Give the man a break.

  81. R. Smith Says:

UT - How Ya like me now?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unS3_aOMxe4

  82. Matt Jones Says:

Feeling better today. Took plenty of pepto last night and the mud butt is now gone. Those wings from Hooters did a real number on me. We’ll talk more about it on the live blog.

  83. OwensboroCatFan Says:

I can’t see all the damn comments

  84. Cal Purnell here Says:

Winston Bennett on ESPN now talk’ bout GETTIN’ IT ON!!! Boomp wooomp uh boomp a woooomp bbommm.

  85. OwensboroCatFan Says:

79.) Thanks! I just got an updated Larry Vaught tweet, so maybe Twitter will start working properly again. *Fingers crossed*

  86. Blueyouaway Says:

85 50% chance it was about Eddie Montgomery…..

  87. KSR Clock Says:

    Change me…..

  88. Rick Pitino Says:

I gotta feeling Winston won’t be getting any tonight.

  89. HackRichards Says:

I must have a problem….I thought 3-4 women per day was normal!

  90. BigBlue1976 Says:

    69. YES, being an eight seed and only 20 wins IS driving UK into the ground. Glad Tubby is gone from here. Glad is successful elsewhere. He is a great mid-major coach, just not for UK.

  91. Tubby Smith Says:

Don’t hate me after all I did for you. Remember I won your last NCAA championship and after I win the Big Ten Championship today my gophers will see you in the second round. Thats right, after we put a beat down on a short-handed Michigan State and Purdue team and then beat Ohio State today my team will have gone from bubble to a 9 seed and I will have my 20+ wins and ten+ losses.

  92. blueblue Says:

I’m all for supporting Tubby. Until we have to play him of course. That will be an interesting situation, but they’d have no chance of beating us.

  93. The Source Says:

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the team expressing their feelings. Cal does not hold back when getting on to them and I think he respects them enough to allow for their input. No telling how much emotional abuse Orton took from Billy G as a recruit. Cal has helped him to become empowered.

  94. ruppmaster4000 Says:

that is the fuel we needed to light a fire under or @$$ so im happy with cal on how he handled it. orton will use that to play and work harder, so nothing bad came from this.

  95. JonnyMcFly Says:

    EAST (Syracuse)

    (1) KENTUCKY (30-2)

    (8) Oklahoma St (22-10)
