[Moderated by Matt Jones]

5:45 PM I spent the end of the second half sitting in the stands with the KSR crew, two rows behind Trent Johnson, who is dealing with the LSU loss to Tennessee, 59-49. It was truly a dreadful game, with Tennessee playing poorly and LSU playing LSU. The last few minutes have been spent arguing with Dave Baker and Kyle Macy about the first round NCAA Game for UK. Dave Baker is claiming that Buffalo may be as close to Lexington as Milwaukee, which means he never watched or played “Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego” in the 1980s and 90s. That type of geographic difficulty made Kyle (not wearing a Christmas sweater) and I mock him, but in a loving way.
The arena is now emptying and the fans will hit the streets of Nashville. The Big Blue Nation was out in full force today, and I expect a record number of people here in the next few days. We all can take a bit of a deep breath now that South Carolina is not the opponent in the next round (although I was never particularly concerned for the Gamecocks on a neutral floor) and Alabama becomes the opponent, a team that UK should be able to handle if it plays up to capability.
Watch the Big 12 games….now with the Syracuse loss, so long as Kansas doesnt lose, the Cats will be in the Syracuse Regional, meaning go ahead and buy tickets now, as it will be a mad scene. If Kansas loses however, the Cats could end up in the St Louis region, which could be an even nuttier scene. Either way, it will be something to see.
Taking a quick break….will return in about an hour. The Big Blue Mist is on its way….
5:10 PM: Not the best picture in the world (ok actually its a terribly blurry picture, but you have to blame MaconVolFan for having the only iPhone in America with a dirty screen), but here is a snapshot of the Alabama dance team. We will make things better tomorrow:
4:59 PM: Are there two more annoying players in America than Stephen Pearl and Scotty Hopson? For totally different reasons, I find myself pulling for their destruction more than any other ballers in the SEC. Pearl seems to exist only to be yelled at by his father, who stands on the sidelines perpetually telling Pearl how awful he is in language that Rick Pitino wouldnt even use at an Italian restaurant. And Hopson plays with all the interest and enthusiasm of Sarah Palin at an economics lecture, keeping a “you know that one game out of five, I am as good as anyone in America”, smirk on his mouth. I dont like either of them.
I do however like staring at the back of Brad Nessler’s head. The man must contribute to at least 23% of the destruction of the ozone layer himself wiht the amount of hairspray that must go into keeping his look. Where others suffer, Nessler conditions, and for that he should be applauded. Vols lead 34-30
4:40 PM: The UK players chilling during the Alabama game:
MATT 4:34 PM: Tennessee and LSU are tied 21-21 at the half. It has been a relatively poorly played game and Tennessee looks totally uninterested to even be in the arena. One does have to wonder however, how does LSU have absolutely no talent besides the tenth year Tasmin Mitchell? John Brady not only left the cupboard bare, he sprayed it down with poison as he walked out the door. Any LSU team with three white guys in at one time is destined for failure. What is not destined for failure is the LSU dance team, which is asking for my support and will receive it.
At the SEC Tournament, they always have an extra referee on standby. I am a big fan of this idea and think it has to be the easiest job in all of sports. Show up, wear the stripes and jsut assume that no one wil get hurt and you will be fine. I am going to request a fill-in blogger for the times that Barry Booker walks by and distracts me. He was of course part of the most awkward moment for SEC Tournament history when we were coming here in the early years. Before I got credentialed, we would come to the games and harass Booker to come and talk to us. One time when he was sitting in the stands with the group, politics came up and my friend Corey asked Booker what party he was in. He said, “I am a Republican” at which point Corey said, “Dont you know you’re black???” We all looked at Corey and wondered how he could be so stupid, when Booker then held up his hands and said, “really, I had never noticed..thanks for telling me.” We then became Booker groupies for life.
Second half beginning….
strong>Kate 4:20: Just thought I’d jump in and add my 2 cents. I’m not having nearly as much fun as Matt as there are no Dave Neals, Devon Downeys, or Alabama dance teams here at work. But nonetheless, I appreciate Matt keeping us up-to-date and allowing us to waste our time refreshing the page in order to live vicariously through him.
One of my favorite writers Jason Whitlock put out a little diddy today about expanding the NCAA tournament (insert groaning). But not expanding it in the way you think. Instead of expanding the number of teams, he proposes expanding the number of games played during the sweet sixteen and beyond so that the matchups become a best of three series.
It’s an interesting read even if you disagree with him (which I do). I think both ideas are terrible and that we shouldn’t try to fix something that isn’t broken. Considering the (arguably) two most popular and exciting postseasons (NFL playoffs and NCAA March Madness) share the common trait of single game elimination, its utter stupidity to change either of the formats. But since the idea of expanding the number of teams is gaining some steam and seems to be on everyone’s minds lately, at least someone is trying to come up with some alternatives.
MATT 4:15 PM: Wireless here in the Nashville arena has gone the way of Doug Gottlieb’s intelligence and seems to have evaporated. So we are doing the best we can until we can get some stuff fixed by tonight. The Travis experience made me miss the amazing comeback by Alabama. Down 18 in the second half, they came back and knocked the Gamecocks out of the Tournament and now give Kentucky a more manageable game tomorrow. UK fans were loudly cheering Bama at the end and attempting to do anything to get the Tide to win at the end. It worked and Anthony Grant’s bunch move on, allowing another day of Alabama Dance Team action.
We have now begun the Tennessee-LSU game and the arena has filled up wiht some orange. Tennessee has asolid showing here, although Kentucky may be right with them, even though the Cats dont play till tomorrow. The most important part of this game has occurred from the Tennessee band, who have a bizarre “BASKET - BALL” chant that they yell during timeouts. IT reminds me of Homer Simpson carrying the little banner that used to say “State” on the “Simpsons.” I cant tell if its ridiculous or brilliant…it could be either.
MATT 3:55 PM: Sorry I have been away. I was just on the radio and it was an exhausting experience with Clay Travis and the Nashville afternoon crew. If you heard it, I hope I represented Kentucky well. I now need a massage. I will be back up and running in the next 20 minutes or so.

Why “exhausting?”
March 11th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
1st, I think… preposterous
March 11th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
You did well. Very entertaining! I was listening in Nashville
March 11th, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Matt, I would def. hire you over Travis. He could lose business over that preformance. He sounded like he was going to explode, cry or both. Geez, seems like a smart guy until you argue with him. Are we takin’ a chance on Cal? Hell ya. So far it’s been worth it. Also, in the UMass case Cal reported the violation with Camby. Cal turned him in and got the hell out. I feel that the NCAA should and hopefully will reverse the Memphis decision. If they cleared the kid, they cleared him. That onus should be on them. Any reasonable person would be able to see this. But Matt, jealosy isn’t reasonable, thus he continues his cheap shots. I can live with it. Go Big Blue!
March 11th, 2010 at 3:55 pm
UK plays Bama tomorrow. I think that is a much better draw than SC. Thoughts?
March 11th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
matt.. had to look for it on my history from the Ramsey post.. did not see a link in the blog..
so i missed the first part.. but it was i expected from duke and vandy law..
was is the word down there on the early out on the cuse??
March 11th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
LOL no.6
March 11th, 2010 at 3:58 pm
Rub and tug would release all anxiety.
March 11th, 2010 at 3:59 pm
matt.. question, if the NCAA cleared the guy to play for memphis.. and then backtracked.. why can memphis sue the NCAA, and own them??
March 11th, 2010 at 4:00 pm
I ain’t the “Clay Travis Show”, although I’m sure he wishes it was called that.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
We didn’t blow the doors of ‘Bama last time we played them, but I think I’ll take them over The University of Devan Downey. Watching Downey throw up 8 bazillion circus shots is kind of exhausting really.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:02 pm
Damn Tennessee is on fire today! I can’t believe how good they are playing this game!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Clay is the biggest joke on radio..I live here and hopefully Plaster can get this clown off the air. He has zero knowledge about sports other than Tn football. Clown!!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:04 pm
No more Devan Downey make circus shots against UK…ever.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
20 min or so = 1 hour
March 11th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Matt - all this Cal trashing is getting old. Almost penis envy.
Before he came to UK I was swayed by constant media inuendo, but seeing how the man handles total package on and off court I am convinced he’s better than 99% of the coaching world.
To the media - put up or shut up.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
what did Matt say to me?
March 11th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Matt, I am good with my hands…
March 11th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
Bruce Pearl is putting on a coaching clinic!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
For you guys that didn’t see the show down with Matt and Clay “Tn Homer” Travis it was awesome,,,Clay was seriously shaking he was scared to death about 200 ky fans around him, and Matt ripped that little clown a new one…love it!!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:10 pm
14.. you answered your own question.. UT football..
March 11th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
This game is hurting my head.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
Tiger dance team…oh my!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
Get back to work on the blog Matt, Im at work hitting refresh over and over only to see the same post from like an hour ago, keep us entertained, its up to you!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:17 pm
Hey Macon! Shown anyone your belly yet? I think that is maybe my favorite part of the tourney!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:19 pm
Who is Clay Travis? What happened to George Plaster and Willy Daunic?
March 11th, 2010 at 4:19 pm
Geaux Tigers. How awesome would that be if the fighting Pearlys went home against maybe the worst SEC team in a decade?
March 11th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
Wow these refs are lovin them some orange. Only 4 fouls on UT and 10 on LSU. That is BS
March 11th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
Wow - a whole 15 points in the 1st half.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
28- They have a new show on 104.5 between 12-3 called “Three Hour Lunch”. Plas and Willy are after them.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:21 pm

March 11th, 2010 at 4:23 pm
I kinda like it when your groan.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
I assume the chant is to remind the fans that this funny game they are watching is not football.
Despite the 21-21 halftime score.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
http://www.tailgatereview.com is better.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Macon, congratulations on your first half blackjack!
March 11th, 2010 at 4:26 pm
The words “brilliant” and “UT students” do not mix.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
Whats the deal with Daniel Orton-talking about he may not be able to play during the SEC Tournament?
March 11th, 2010 at 4:30 pm
Kate. Glad you enjoy Jason Whitlock. He’s very polarizing here in the KC area, having burned bridges at with all sports radio stations and at ESPN. Seems to be a pattern, but he does have fresh insight. Plays the race card regularly, however.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
UHhH yeah, I be pro-posing that we link up squads in the sweet sixteen and play a best of series like a loser leave town match with the first team playng the first team and then the sub players playing and then everybody for the best out of the three and then loser leaves….
Oh wait a second none of this sh#t makes any sense and besides the tournament is PERFECT the way it is now.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
Kate couldn’t you think of something better to do at 4:20?
March 11th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
41- jason whitlock and wilbon always play the race card
March 11th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
Heard the radio. You owned Clay on the air. I have a hard time believing that he actually has a law degree after hearing him try to debate based on feelings and speculation and not evidence. Go Cats!

March 11th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
While some of my articles are about race and sports I also call BS on people who use the Race Card (e.g. I said Charles Barkley was full of sh&* when he accused Auburn of being racist for not hiring U of Buffalo’s coach to coach the football team).

On the idea of expanding the field to 96… I have not heard ONE argument from a media member or a fan in support of doing this. No one wants to expand the field; in fact, there are already a lot of coaches who think that the season is already too long!
So my thinking is, why in the blue left-handed hell are they wanting to expand the field if NO ONE WANTS TO?!
It’s just so obviously a bad idea that it makes absolutely no sense. I don’t understand it.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
For UK not to have a game till tomorrow there is quiet a bit of fans there. It is funny that there are as many UK fans there to watch the UT game as they do.
March 11th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
UK will CRUSH the Vols Saturday! I can’t wait!
March 11th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
anybody just see the charge called on T. Mitchell? Chism literally jumped to his right to get under Mitchell and they called the charge. Not sure if the SEC officiating can get much worse
March 11th, 2010 at 5:00 pm

March 11th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
Jon Hood looks like Timmy from Southpark in this pick….does he ever close his mouth?
March 11th, 2010 at 5:01 pm
what are your talking about matt, LSU was one of the best in the SEC last year and LSU’s coach is in his second year. Brady certainly didn’t leave LSU depleted. Maybe you want to retract that one. At least Brady actually led LSU to a final four this decade - they were stupid for firing him and
I really don’t know why I’m taking up for him.

March 11th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
I hope if Chism plays in the NBA next year…somebody rips that headband off, throws it in the stands, and punches him in the face….i hate that damn headband
March 11th, 2010 at 5:08 pm
Matt do you think Scotty not choosing UK had influenced your opinion of him…i mean he is pretty good he is the reason they beat us in knoxville, everyone has bad games and he is still young, and he will be a good NBA player in the future
March 11th, 2010 at 5:09 pm
Way to represent with Clay Travis! I’m an attorney too and I cannot stand to listen into his totally baseless arguments about Coach Cal, so it was nice to hear an attorney of the Wildcat persuasion rip him apart. My favorite part was when someone commented that Clay was actually shaking.

March 11th, 2010 at 5:13 pm

March 11th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
#83) There’s a story about Hopson, secondhand, so I don’t know if it’s true, about his effort. He once took a shot during a high school game and missed. Instead of running back to play defense, he went to go get a drink of water. I would only believe that because it’s consistent with every story I’ve heard about his effort.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:15 pm
OK. Daniel Orton was with the other players awhile ago, AND HE HAD NO NOTICABLE INJURY WHATSOEVER! I’m calling BS on that blog. They badly need hits so they put a false story that they know UK fans care about on it.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
OMG! My ears are bleeding. I hate that effin’ Rocky Top Song! Could there be anything more lame?
March 11th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Leave it to UT to play so poorly in a game and celebrate an ally oop like they just invented the wheel.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:19 pm
The SEC sucks except for UK, this is kige ramsey for KSR sports
March 11th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
im not gonna hate, that ally oop was sick
March 11th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
UT up 10 and they jack up 3 3’s in a row! This is why B Pearl sucks as a coach.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
How far can a team go when a guy named Eddie Ludwig is playing serious minutes? 2-14 I guess.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
STEPHEN PEARL should be on VH1’s TOOL ACADEMY
March 11th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
LSU Sucks badly. I can’t remember a team that bad in the SEC in the past 20 years that I’ve been following college basketball
March 11th, 2010 at 5:25 pm
when kige was on the freak show with Matt when it was on tv Matt asked him who was his favorite U.K. player of all time he said Tayshaun Prince. Which to me is an OK answer… but then a caller said Mashburn was his favorite player of all time and matt asked kige if he liked mashburn and kige said he has never seen him play before… thats ridiculous kige. come on
March 11th, 2010 at 5:26 pm
Here’s one for all you bracketologists out there…what’s one team that you would not want to see come out the the 8-9 game if you are UK.
Right now ESPN has Clemson, Marquette, Louisville, Northern Iowa, Florida State, Notre Dame, UNLV, and UTEP as the 8s and 9s
March 11th, 2010 at 5:27 pm
99 Not real worried about anybody in that group.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:29 pm
Best game of post season so far Akron vs Eastern Michigan. Double OT on Fox Sports Ohio.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
Least favorite 8/9: Louisville: don’t want to have to beat lil bro twice and our match-up might motivate their best (C+) game.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
100) i guess i’m not worried either but if i had to pick one i guess it would be either ND or Marquette.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Damn LSU just blew a chance at winning that game.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
If we are being honest, The Cards would be a Nightmare matchup in the second round for us. Is UK a Far Superior team to UofL? Of Course we are. But they could rise up for that one game and play to the best of their ability, and UK could be off from outside. Then we could be in trouble. I really don’t want the Cards in our bracket.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
LSU= too little, too late.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:33 pm
You guys are so awesome…. i\I’m not even worthy to read your offerings!!! you are helping a really frustrated (watch it) middle tn music teacher keep up with the tourney….! (curtsying deeply) THANKS!!!! GO CATS!!!
March 11th, 2010 at 5:34 pm
Thats why they only won 2 games in SEC play, LSU you let us down.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
LSU=Fail.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Louisville/Marquette/Notre Dame
I think we could handle marquette the easiest by utilizing our size and they like to run, which would get them in trouble with us, but Notre Dame could be a nightmare and Louisville is a matchup nightmare with how pumped up they’d be.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
Booker is a Republican? #fail.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:41 pm
I just want to know why there is so much fear of UL all of the sudden. They have won exactly 2 game this year that matter. Not to mention the fact that ST Johns and Marquette blew them out, and they just lost to a horrible Cincy team.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:42 pm
Just saw Matt texting after the TN game
March 11th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
#112.) EVERY TIME UK and UofL play, its going to be a tight game. Thats just how this rivilry has always been. They play UK different then they play ANYONE else.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:46 pm
It’s not that UofL is great, they are just capable of playing well 1 out of 5 games. Plus it’s still a rivalry game, it will be ugly.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:49 pm
Akron vs Eastern Michigan has turned ugly! 3 ejections, 5 techs, 1 flagrant foul. 2 OT
March 11th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
I do NOT want to play Louisville in March… its already a Rivalry, plus add slick Rick in March, it COULD always be a dangerous time. Georgetown could be a sleeper this year in the NCAA Tournament.
March 11th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
it’s a trap
March 11th, 2010 at 6:03 pm
About Milwaukee or Buffalo being closer: according to Google Maps, Milwaukee is closer in terms of estimated driving time, but not as much as you would think. Google’s estimation for Lexington–>Milwaukee: 7 hr, 43 min. Estimated time from Lexington–>Buffalo: 8hr, 15 min. So only a 30 min estimated difference. Your Mileage May Vary, of course, literally.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:03 pm
i say bama wins by 4
March 11th, 2010 at 6:05 pm
No team who lost their first game in the conference tournament has ever won the NCAA tournament. Syracuse lost in their first game today! Go CATS!
March 11th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
118–that’s Colonel Ackbar, son.
As for 8’s and 9’s, I’ve had a few.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:11 pm
No way Buffalo is more that7 hours from Lexington. I drove to the Canadian side of Niagra Falls, through Buffalo in less 71/2 hours, and the Canadian Niagra side is 30 minutes north of Buffalo. Colonel Ackbar and his Bass People like Niagra.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
Ok this is addressed to Matt, the KSR Crew, and every UK fan out there. I understand that Milwaukee is closer than Buffalo, but seriously wouldn’t you rather Kentucky be placed in Jacksonville, FL? The only southeastern city location in the first & second round of the tourney this year. Its 75 and sunny down here, get your heads out of your fartmakers…. I will not be a happy camper if the Dukees land here.
Nate… Jax
March 11th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
122 it’s actually admiral ackbar
March 11th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
anyone know a link to watch tomorrows game online?
March 11th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
this site is gonna crash tomorrow. Its gonna suck
March 11th, 2010 at 6:13 pm
not sure what a dirty iphone screen has to do with the quality the dance team picture but you’re in nashville and i’m not so you must be smarter than me.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
#128 I think the picture is fuzzy cause it is taken through the fur on Macon’s belly.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:16 pm
#117 I would not be worried about beating Louisville in March. Even Gillispie beat Pitino in March.
March 11th, 2010 at 6:24 pm
Would prefer not to deal with Louisville, Marquette or Notre Dame. Too much history. Let’s keep it simple and save the stress for the following weekends
March 11th, 2010 at 6:25 pm
Let’s see how Bledsoe plays against Bama tomorrow, I remember both Boogie and Bledshow have extra motivation against the tide.

dunno what version of my game you played, matt, but buffalo is half an hour farther than milwaukee. hardly a dealbreaker in terms of driving.

Remember, we only beat Alabama by 11 in Rupp. Hope our team is going to play primetime. I doubt it but we must win to get the second number one seed.
