Before the football Cats hit the field in Nashville, the less heralded UK team (ever thought you would say that) try to rebound at Rupp Arena against Florida International and their greatest alumni, Carlos Arroyo (insert laugh track here). I am not sure if you can call any game the Cats play a MUST-WIN anymore because that implies they need this for their NCAA resume, and frankly they are in too deep a hole to worry about that. You should more be concerned with this game being a MUST-PLAY BETTER game. It’s not just the losing, its the looking confused and uninterested that has become the norm for this team. This FIU Panthers team would be a perfect start. They have lost to Robert Morris by 27, George Mason by 18 and Florida Gulf Coast by 3. They have no one shooting over 40% on 3-pointers and only 2 guys that are averaging over 10 points a game. Neither of those guys are guards, which is also a positive as guards have killed the Cats so far. Watch out for Alex Galindo (Kansas transfer), 6′6” and athletic. If he goes all Jordan Crawford or Robert Vaden on UK, this game could get close. You never know who is going to play what amount on this Kentucky team, but hopefully we will see more Jodie Meeks for both halves, a little more Derrick Jasper, and some type of production from Perry Stevenson/Jared Carter. I will say it now: if the Cats lose to FIU, it will be a worse loss than both Gardner-Webb or San Diego. But, thats not gonna happen, Cats win this one fairly easily: UK 75, FIU 59. Use this thread to put down your prediction…(Thread for the football game will come shortly after the bball game ends)

If FIU opens like they did against Purdue, the Cats will lose big. If not, Cats by 7.
Anybody in Vegas, put some money down for the Cats NOT to cover. 20 point spread? Are you freaking kidding me?
December 31st, 2007 at 12:01 pm
Patrick Patterson aside, this has to be the worst University of Kentucky basketball team assembled. It just baffles me that we can be such an elite university and put forth such crap-ass efforts night in and night out.
Matt nailed it, they just look lost out there. I can’t say that I understand all of the changes that Gillispie has been making, nor will I try to judge his talents after 1 season in Lexington, but the last time I saw Joe Crawford travel with the ball with NOBODY around him, I just threw my drink at the TV. These are the leaders of the team and I am just hoping they can just TRY and stay in the game!
The only thing I am sure of is this team will be historic, but not the type of history they will want to be remembered by.
Here’s to a better and brighter ‘08!
Happy New Year to all my KSR friends!!
December 31st, 2007 at 12:08 pm
i’m so excited to see Coury and Harris it’s pitiful : )

UK 56
FIU 80
December 31st, 2007 at 12:12 pm
lol, killed by the fanbase..yea that did it. *rolleyes*
December 31st, 2007 at 12:19 pm
I’m still predicting a bench clearing brawl at the end of the game. 55 Ky fans are arrested and 4 players for attacking BG.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:30 pm
OK, it appears that FIU didn’t open on fire, so Cats will win by 7.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:30 pm
Their head Coach looks like Pablo Escobar.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Any word on the attendance at Rupp?
December 31st, 2007 at 12:43 pm
What channel is the game on?
on dishnetwork FSNsouth is showing the freakin North Carolina game.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Need score. At work cannot listen. Help!
December 31st, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Is that Rob Gidel’s older brother calling the game on the radio?
(I know it’s not, but it sure sounds a whole helluva lot like “the greased one.”)
December 31st, 2007 at 12:54 pm
I have it on the ESPN Full Court.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:57 pm
dish, channel 420 it’s on…fox south.
December 31st, 2007 at 12:59 pm
It’s nice to see Meeks back in action.

FIU 21
December 31st, 2007 at 1:02 pm
22 point halftime lead. Okay, naysayers here comes that healthy dose of humble pie.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:03 pm
I just keep hoping we have a turnaround the way we did against Vandy a few years ago. At least we are finally getting some action with all 3 of our main players in
December 31st, 2007 at 1:03 pm
I think it is very evident that the substitution pattern had to do with injuries. Billy knew this and also knew he had to develop confidence and depth. Hence the reason Porter/Coury/Harris were starting at a majority of time this season. With the majority of minutes in the first half going to the Jasper/Meeks/Patterson/Crawford/Bradley lineup we now see what we will have if we are healthy. I can’t be more excited as I knew if we could only get healthy we would start to play with the intensity and tenacity that Billy wants.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Might be the best half of basketball that I’ve ever seen Ramel play.
It looks like we haven’t been over-hyping Jasper in his absence. He is our second best rebounder.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
ur right 25, now all the fire billy people will jump back on the band wagon
December 31st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
UK basketball and football all in one day. What am I to do with myself. I should have called in sick.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:06 pm
That doesn’t happen often. Maybe the football team can win as big as the basketball team
December 31st, 2007 at 1:11 pm
Yahoo article on New Year’s Resolutions….”Before something screwy happens – like, say, a loss to Florida International – I, Billy Gillispie, promise to sign my contract at Kentucky. It’s not like it’s been eight months or anything.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:12 pm
#15 - on the TV broadcast they said the attendance. I don’t remember the exact number, but it was over 23,000.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:15 pm
I hope this is a learning process for the team, Billy G, and us Fans. I have been critical of him. However, I really hope he grows into the position.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:16 pm
This is the line up I’ve been wanting to see all year.
Jasper/Meeks/Patterson/Crawford/Bradley
I know it’s small but that’s the best players on the team.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:18 pm
Billy G won Big 12 coach of the year 3 times. He will do just fine.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:20 pm
It’s going to be a New Year for our wildcats!
December 31st, 2007 at 1:21 pm
#17-you can come to this site, but can’t go to a site that has scores?
December 31st, 2007 at 1:30 pm
#31. The radio just said it was a little over 19,000 in attendence. 23,000 might be the paid amount.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:32 pm
the best play-by-play i can find at work is actually on ukathletics.com
December 31st, 2007 at 1:33 pm
so u think we missed jasper as he leads us in rebounds and assists?
December 31st, 2007 at 1:33 pm
31) 19,184 in attendance..
December 31st, 2007 at 1:37 pm
Yeah I just saw the attendance listed on ukathletics.com. I think 37 is right about 23000 being the paid attendance. Lower than I’d like (I’d be there if I could!) but not bad considering the circumstances I guess.
I’m so happy to have Jasper back - he’s stuffing the stat sheet today!
December 31st, 2007 at 1:40 pm
Maybe stuffing the stat sheet is a little hyperbole… but it’s nice to have someone out there besides Pat who rebounds!!!
December 31st, 2007 at 1:41 pm
Its really nice to have everyone back finally. Now, if we can stay healthy and Jasper and Meeks dont suffer any more setbacks. With those two we are a completely different team.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:46 pm
haha the mood on this board is sooo much idfferent than on saturday…it was all doom and gloom then, im glad to see everyone back and (relativly) healthy
December 31st, 2007 at 1:51 pm
Let’s go ahead and set just 2 goals for this team this year in order to be happy: End the losing streak to Florida, End the losing streak to Vandy
December 31st, 2007 at 1:54 pm
oh if we can beat vandy and florida this year i’m satisfied : )
the thing is though, take today for instance, it just looks like a completely different team. but the problem is consistancy you know? i mean, will we see this again?? will it be next game or 2 or 3 games down the road…that’s the big problem. i’d make these guys watch the game again and see how different they look versus the past few games…it’s daylight and dark difference. it’s an attitude thing. they actually look like they want to be out there competing today. it’s a good start but now we’ll have to see if we can maintain that against quality teams…this team today is not by any means a quality team.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:57 pm
They looked decent today, but the next 5 games are not going to be pretty. Winning 3 out of 5 would be a HUGE step in the right direction.
It ain’t gonna happen though.
December 31st, 2007 at 1:59 pm
It would be a big boost in my opinion if they scored 100 today. It’s a must:)
December 31st, 2007 at 2:03 pm
I’m a-skeered about the Louisville game. I hope that’s the game we can say was the turning point of the season.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:06 pm
if they can continue to look like they did today they will improve…again, in my opinion it’s having jasper and meeks in the game with patterson and bradley and crawford. they seem to click BUT these next few games will show us what we really have left for the rest of the season. today we actually didn’t look lost and whatnot and played with emotion and energy…lets see if this lasts.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:07 pm
i’m sorry but i just cannot STAND to watch michael porter play at UK. i almost have to turn the channel. he is just horrible.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:11 pm
Like I’ve said Porter is the worst point guard to see significant minutes in UK history
December 31st, 2007 at 2:13 pm
Why is it that AJ Stewart doesn’t play? He’s one of the most athletic guys on the team and he seems to be smart and have a nose for the ball. A true OTS player a al Daniels, Fitch. He needs PT. Especially when he’s giving dusty, d perry, and sherbenske PT.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:13 pm
So what is Joe Crawford doing that BCG doesn’t want him starting?
December 31st, 2007 at 2:15 pm
surprised we didn’t see AJ. gonna listen to post game now i guess.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:16 pm
I am sure if coach doesn’t play him he as a reason and you nore I know the situation better than coach.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:17 pm
Could someone please provide a reasonable explanation as to why jasper shot the technical foul shots? I know this decision is minute, seeing as though we’re ahead by 30+ points….but would CBC do this if the game was on the line? Anyways…Go Cats and congrats on a great effort today!!!
December 31st, 2007 at 2:18 pm
Nice to see four guys in double figures.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:19 pm
I’m just sorry that lesmiles didn’t get what he wanted.
Great game by the Cats!
December 31st, 2007 at 2:20 pm
Trying to get him some game shots in at the line, thats all.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:20 pm
Damn- Cats beat the spread!!!!
December 31st, 2007 at 2:21 pm
Great win. I’m glad everyone else in this thread picked the Cats to win big (ahem*sarcastic cough).
December 31st, 2007 at 2:21 pm
59) and what was it that i wanted?
December 31st, 2007 at 2:21 pm
well before the drinking begins…just want to say WOW that is the type of play I am talking about. Jasper makes a world of difference out there, as well as Jodie. That was good basketball, and it was great to see the walk-ons play. I was pulling for Dusty and Matt to score as much as anyone there I am sure.
I am sure there is a reason A.J. didn’t play, just as there was a reason earlier this season.
And also, I think Coach put Jasper on the line for the Tech’s because
1. He hasn’t shot many, if any, free throws this season.
2. If he stays healthy, he will be shooting A LOT of free throws, esp when the game is on the line
We all know how important it is for a PG to shoot a high percentage at the line, and Jasper needs to get comfortable out there again at the stripe so we can pull out some close games and upsets (Louisville….Vandy…free throws could be a deciding factor if we can play like today)
December 31st, 2007 at 2:22 pm
#56 you’re right, maybe Stewart fell asleep in a team meeting again. Whatever is going on there, I’d like to see it taken care of because i think AJ could be very good.
December 31st, 2007 at 2:30 pm
seems like a step in the right direction….
December 31st, 2007 at 2:41 pm
So where all the fans b*tching about his coaching? I admit he’s done some things we haven’t liked at times, but it seems that it maybe, just maybe, could have been the fact we just didn’t have the right players. I hope we all stay healthy and I think we can make a decent run at things the last half of the season.
Consistancy is key and learning quickly with these new guys in the lineup. Hopefully the other guys will learn from today as well.
Now… time to switch gears to football…
December 31st, 2007 at 3:15 pm
As I’ve opined at every opportunity, UK fans need to STFU, support their team (W or L), and let the man coach. PERIOD!
December 31st, 2007 at 3:30 pm
some UK fans need to STFU and it’s also obvious that some “others” need to STFU as well.
December 31st, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Scotland > lesmiles
December 31st, 2007 at 3:47 pm
#69 sorry but I’ve said that ALL ALONG. Fans should S-T-F-U and let the players play and coaches coach. PERIOD!!!!!
December 31st, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Stewart is injured?
December 31st, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Every game is a must win game for Kentucky.
That said, I say caution.
December 31st, 2007 at 4:00 pm
Every game is a must win game for Kentucky.
That said, I say patience.
December 31st, 2007 at 5:03 pm
Clandestine < human.
71) Yea and yet you praise and defend tubby with BS stats phrases like “Gillispie ain’t one of them”.
so most people can easily say that others should as you say, S-T-F-U
December 31st, 2007 at 5:54 pm
#75 love to tweak those Cat fans!
Gillipie or anybody else, STFU and root for your team.
