…many of you acted like I was crazy when I invoked 8-20. Remember that?
Well, this here’s a loss to San Diego. Not San Diego State. Not the San Diego Clippers. SAN DIEGO.
And I promise, I’m not trying to throw salt into the wound. That said–do you believe me now about how bad things could get? Do you believe me now?
Consider this–this loss didn’t make the headlines on ESPN.com’s college hoops page, and they’ll put about anything Kentucky-related up because the traffic will be sky-high. In other words, losses like these aren’t surprising anyone anymore. That’s bad news, jack.
Anyway, this is all I want to know–keeping with the analogue to 8-20, does losing to SAN DIEGO seem more like losing to Hampton, Davidson or Ohio, as the Heels did in 2001-02?
On a positive note, this seems to be Billy Clyde’s method for rebuilding a program. Starting off dreadfully and making it work on the back end. Maybe this is just necessary bloodletting. If so, just chill out and get ready for next season. As I learned during the 1997 college football season, when my Longhorns were an absolute disaster, it’s easier to ignore your favorite team than you might think.

What!
December 29th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
I cannot wait until this current senior class is gone. They play with no heart at all.
December 29th, 2007 at 6:11 pm
I still think we end up around .500 if everyone gets healthy but that’s just me trying to be optimistic about the season at this point.
What’s the cut off for making the NIT?
December 29th, 2007 at 6:14 pm
#2
Yeah because the Junior class is real good too!!
December 29th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
No offense to you but that 8 win Carolina team was coached by a man who got to the Final Four a few years prior and was eventually fired for a more favored son who built multiple National Championship contenders at a tradition rich program after he losy control of his team (and the players he recruited) because he was a hard ass.
The difference is we don’t have a Roy Williams waiting or a Dean Smith occupying a back office that the players can go whine to.
December 29th, 2007 at 6:38 pm
8 - 20 is impossible, Bomani. We play 29. Plus, at least one tourney game…11 - 19, dude.
December 29th, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Bomani is right. The players are not very good. They look tired. How many SEC games will they win ?
December 29th, 2007 at 6:44 pm
2- I completely agree. JC makes my stomach turn. Did you see him lose his man in transition and give up that open 3? Once he realized it was his man, he just stood there and watched him take the shot, then dropped his head. This is our Senior leader, folks.
December 29th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
I’m not attacking BCG coaching ability,BUT if Meeks could play today, why did he wait so long to put him in? Again I don’t understand the rotation at all.I don’t believe he gives his team the best chance at wiining given the lineup that you see on the floor at times.Very confusing when Coury gets 19 min as oppose to Meeks getting 12 mins.?
December 29th, 2007 at 6:47 pm
#4 It has nothing to do with how talented they are. It is all about playing with desire, playing with heart
This class believes they are bigger than the program.

I think Bradley embraces playing for UK.Joe Crawford is,well I haven’t figured that out!! If this Senior class had Morris this year, how different would it be?I’m just wanting this season to get over from a rebuilding, getting adjusted, whatever else needs to happen standpoint and get these Cats back on top of college ball again!!!Sheesh!!!
December 29th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
UK was 10-10 in the middle of the 1975-76 season.
UK finished 20-10 with an NIT championship.
Way too early to punt. Not even 3rd down yet.
December 29th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
Yeah because they played a very talented but raw soph. class (Frosh weren’t allowed to play) in Givens, Robey, Lee, and Phillips. All were recruited by Joe B as well.
December 29th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Sorry but Robey was out (injured) after 12 games. He was not part of the latter season.
UK 2008 has talent like Givens, Lee, or Phillips. Namely Patterson, Meeks, Crawford, or Bradley.
December 29th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
And YES frosh were allowed to play from 1973 on.
December 29th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
My mistake but it doesn’t take away from the “talent much worse” comment you made. It doesn’t take away from the fact all were recruited and played for the same coach.
December 29th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
My guess is that he did not want to play Meeks at all in this game to give him some time to get completely better. However, once things didn’t turn around in the 2nd half, he had no choice but to get him on the court which by then was too late. This game was over when the score was 11-4.

Today was difficult to watch as will be many to come as we enter SEC play. This will be a long year, and in my opinion, it will be the end of February until we can legitimaly criticize Billy Clyde’s brand/style of coaching. Injuries and obvious misunderstanding or outright definance of his system by the current players seem to spill onto the court. I am not appologizing for him. I think we were heading in the wrong direction with the former coaching staff and a change was due. Better informed persons than me made the decision to hire him and for better or worse, we are bound to that decision for the next few years. Lets all take a deep breath and allow things to settle in. I believe all things have a life cycle and I think we are on the cusp of starting a new winning streak-whether it is with this coach or another. The program will endure and it will prosper. It alway has and it always will.

The feeling is gone. That feeling you would get when the Cats fell behind. You just knew that they would make a rally. You wouldn’t get worried. Now there is an inescapable feeling of dread. When the score opens up, you just want to turn the channel because you know that the game is as good as over.
December 29th, 2007 at 9:50 pm
#16 the 1976 team relied upon the late Bob Fowler, Merion Haskins, Reggie Warford (and others) as part of their regular rotation.
The 2008 team has more talent (overall) than 1976 did. Simple as that.
December 29th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Ummmm.
It did make ESPN Mens College Hoops main page: San Diego sends reeling Kentucky under .500 http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=273630096

#20 .. I like that you stick up for Tubby and for this team but you are just wrong comparing them to the 76 team .. The 76 team had some quickness and some shooting ability and could rebound a bit .. this team has NO quickness, there’s not a shooter on the team and they can’t get a rebound when they need one. This current team has nowhere near the BASKETBALL talent of the 76 team. I’m tired of UK coaches recruiting athletes and not basketball players .. basketball starts with shooting and quickness .. UK has none .. UK was beaten today by one man who was quicker than anyone we have and a better shooter than anyone we have. Heck, San Diego has a walkon freshman who shoots better than anyone UK has.
December 29th, 2007 at 11:49 pm
the problem is that this “TEAM” is not a team. They don’t play well with each other. It looks like it is a given that Crawford and Bradley are the leaders and if they are on the floor they should get first chance to shoot. That is not a team. It is dangerous when one player starts to think that they should shoot it more because they have more talent. It is even more dangerous when other players on the team concede to that. It looks like Stevenson, Harris, Porter and a couple other guys have done that. Porter is a good outside shooter, but he will pass up a good look at a three to give Crawford the same look. The lack of leadership from our upperclassmen is killing us.

is this the fake scotland on here? because i think scotland punted a while ago.
December 30th, 2007 at 12:45 am
If your not getting results with the players you have on the floor, substitute. Put Mills, Williams, Carter, Krebs, Stewart in and see what they can do.
Couldn’t be any worse could it? Give everybody some playing experience, at least it would make the game more interesting.
Also, how come when a loss in a sure thing Bradley decides he’s gonna bring us back by scoring 3’s and driving the lane to the basket to score in the last two minutes. where is that drive during the rest of the game?

#10 I think you have it wrong! This coach believes he is Bigger than the program. Not showing up for sponsors, being aloof with the media, creating lots of chatter about his personal life and habits as if no one notices or cares in Lexington. I see no preparation/scouting. There is enough talent on that team to beat Gardner Webb and San Diego.
Finally, there is a lot of damage being done to this program right now. I have an 8 year old that says “Daddy why do you always watch Kentucky? They always lose.” That is sad because if you think about it he sees the big Saturday/Sunday games that usually were losses under Tubby and now he is seeing these loses. Not a great way to keep up the tradition! I still believe a major program that Kentucky is a different animal than TAMU and I would give BCG an F for a grade at handling this type of program. Hope he turns himself around and the program. Go Cats!

#24 nope. I posted that #20 message.

Thanks for stating the obvious Bomani.Your insight is greatly appreciated, I think.

Does anyone have any idea on how accurate the rumors are surrounding
Billy G’s night life around Lexington?

Don’t look so bad now.
