Please accept my sincere apology for leaving you hanging last night and making you go to bed (or insult each other in the comments section) without a full recap. For reasons beyond my control, I was unable to do so. As a peace offering, please accept these post-game quotes courtesy of UKAthletics.com.
Eric Bledsoe
On what could have been better in tonight’s game…
“We could have played better defense. I let my guy get past me to the basket too much. We got turnovers because we were careless with the ball. John (Wall) and I were not careful with the ball and that is how we let it go so many times.”
On being frustrated when teams slow them down …
“It is really frustrating. I think we are getting worn down. Everybody is starting to look like they are really tired. We need to start resting because we have a tournament coming up soon. We still have to play hard because every team is still coming at us hard. We still have plenty of games left.”
On fighting through exhaustion of a longer season …
“We have to play harder. We usually do not play this many games except in the AAU circuit. Those games are in the summer when we do not have school. We have to start focusing on school and then basketball.”
John Wall
On how the team played tonight …
“We played alright. Alabama played good. Coach told us coming in that they were a team that would play you close. They made a good run, but we always find a way to keep going and get the win. We came out with a tough win today.”
On if coach Calipari took him out early because of the turnovers …
“Yes, and I am glad that he did. I was not being strong with the ball like I am supposed to. That is one of the key things that I need to work on more and not turn the ball over much. That is what I did in the first half today.”
On all the rebounds he had …
“I don’t know, that came out of nowhere. It is the first time this year I have rebounded like that. With DeMarcus (Cousins) and Pat (Patterson) down there, it is tough to get a lot of rebounds.”
Patrick Patterson
On DeMarcus (Cousins) and Daniel (Orton) getting lots of playing time together…
“I do not mind it. I am fine with it. Coach Calipari has been talking about that all year. He has told me I have to find ways to get them playing time together. So far whenever they have been in the game at the same time they have played well and fed off of each other’s energy. I am perfectly fine with them both getting more minutes, even if they are my minutes.”
Coach Cal on the team’s effort last night…
Eric Bledsoe talks about the “frustrating” slow pace…
Johnny John talks about last night’s win….

How can you not like Patrick Patterson. He is one of the most humble guys to ever play for UK and also have all the talent he does. No doubt the kid wants to score and be the star more than he has been, everyone does. But he truely just wants to win, and it takes a guy like him to be a national championship team. So in my book, if we win it all this year, big Ppat will be my MVP. Props to him.

Great effort…great effort…great effort.

Anybody notice that after a bad opening 10 minutes, my turnovers virtually disappeared and the old me came back.

I will not insult the poster, and will take the high road on this one and insult the people in this comment section.

Is this the dominating performance that Kansas was lacking the other night?
February 10th, 2010 at 9:18 am
I like reading the post game quotes while watching the video of what was actually said.

I’m not happy at UK anymore.

12) We’ll see if you change your mind when you’re a top 15 pick this year or next.
I think last night was a classic “trap” game that in the past, we probably would have lost. We won the game, and thats the bottom line. It happens to everyone (ask Kansas about the Colorado game, for example). The good teams win these, and thats what we did. I expect we will play much better against UT saturday night.

Are the freshmen in danger of hitting the proverbial “freshman wall”? Bledsoe’s comments have me concerned…

Funny, while watching the game last night several of us at the Nets organization thought it was funny how our games are louder than the almighty Cats in Rupp. Seriously, though what gives… the last few games have sounded like an NBA game just a bunch of chatter… I guess if we go up 25 we start cheering… not on big 3 point shots that make us up 7… Lets have a 35 and under night at Rupp make the house rock.

Beisner - your comments using the word “bed” made a tempur-pedic add show up. Does that explain why Matt’s frequent use of “absurd” in his posts provide adds about Duke Basketball swag?

After watching the game last night, I came away feeling pretty good about it. We didn’t play excellent, but we still beat a good Alabama team even on what seemed liked a somewhat off night.
The announcers were overly negative against UK it seemed like. You could tell they didn’t know anything about the Alabama team because they rarely even mentioned them. Just by listening, you thought they were covering a UK practice.
I thought the announcers were a little too hard on Wall and Cousins as well. Instead of saying that Wall led all scorers, had double digit rebounds, all while being basically molested by 3 guys every time he touched the ball, they only focused on his turnovers. Which is to be expected I think when teams are all over you like that.
They were saying that Cousins lacked effort, which isn’t true. I think they were reading too much into his body language instead of what he was actually contributing on the floor. He had yet another double-double.

Calipari told Miller at half time to go out and play like Cal wasn’t on the sidelines and that he listens “too much”. Boogie proceded to ask, “Coach can I do that too?” haha Love that guy!

17) I agree, I also thought they were to hard on both of them especially Wall. I was b**chin at the them (the TV) every time they got on their case….. If I could have punched them I would have…

What did you say #18 & #19? Please repeat.

#14 Why in the world would anything Bledsoe said make you concerned. This stuff with a few of you is borderline intolerable to read.

Atta boy Pat!

Patterson = class personified, he is everything that is right in sports. Thanks PPat.

In other news, how bout Liggins last night?
That dude could end up in the NBA when it is all said and done. After 2 more years under Cal of course.
February 10th, 2010 at 11:31 am
Tipton ask two questions, both negative, big shock!
February 10th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
Is anyone keeping track of the number of games this season in which the Cats have an offensive rebound off a missed free-throw? I’d like to see that stat because I feel like it’s been almost every game!

#15 It only seems louder because the 6 people that watch the Nets are all in the same room watching on a 12” black and white….Only a crack head would watch the Nets.
