If there is one thing we have learned it is that nothing gets UK fans’ hearts pumping like new uniforms. The new gear has fans up in arms and out in droves. From 12 pm to 1 pm, we had 26,000 visitors on this site, which Hubby and I agree may be a record for a one hour time period that didnt crash the site (which we are also excited about). The reviews are…well, not good. Now ASSUMING these are the new uniforms (which is an assumption until we see them on the court), two quick points:
(1): These have way too much “Ed Hardy” in them for my taste. While I understand that all the Jersey Shore type meatheads love the Ed Hardy look, it isnt exactly a manly basketball view. I could be wrong, but floral design isnt really what I have in mind for basketball apparell. I dont know what the players think about them, but I cant imagine they were hoping for roses on the back of their jerseys.
(2): I hate that it seems to simply be a copy of the Duke/Texas/Ohio State looks. I understand the appeal of Nike and its branding goals, but call me crazy…I had hoped for something uniquely Kentucky. While I like the subtle references to the titles, etc, this is just a version of uniforms other teams have already debuted. That is a bit disappointing.
Now some other notes:
— The voting for the Bob Cousy award is going strong and while I dont know if it actually impacts who gets it, Harvard’s Jeremy Lin is beating John Wall. That isnt good. The other UK sites including the Cats Pause, have all had links urging people to vote and have been unable to make Wall pull away. Now its time for the Big Blue Nation to take them down. Here is the link to vote for Wall.. As of now, Wall and Lin are tied. I bet they wont be for long.
— The Cats play the Tide tonight, which means visions of Wimp Sanderson dancing through all of our heads. We will have a LIVE BLOG BEGINNING AT 8:30 and will discuss all the news pre-game. The game is on ESPNU, so if you dont get it, follow it with us.
— If you havent seen it yet, you might want to check out this post on the Big Lead of UT’s Steven Pearl, getting…well a “dance” from a fellow co-ed. As we can see, the apple doesnt fall far from the tree and being a coach’s son, even at Tennessee, makes life different than that of most college kids. Even Macon Vol Fan wasnt this popular at Transylvania.
— If you arent busy, I will be on WHAS with Terry Meiners at 3:30 today to talk about the Cats. You can listen to the proceedings at this link.
Stick around tonight…UK-Alabama should be fun on this site and we will have all the action.

UK is not like Texas/OSU/Duke in this regard, These three never commissioned a T-shirt for being number one.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:14 pm
Enes Kanter is backing out of his commitment to UW, and rumors are UK is one of the main reasons! Why is this not on the Afternoon notes?
February 9th, 2010 at 3:16 pm
I love John Wall!

Wall took the lead…..quickly
February 9th, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Those kids might be my 2 favorite kids (aside from my own). Love the Steelers and UK gear! Plus the tree doing the John Wall dance.

Thank God for the Matt Jones/KSR Live Blog. You have made my day much less complicated.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:17 pm
The guy who does the pregame with Oscar Combs said during some game that the Cousy award is decided upon by a panel who get 5 finalists. He read the whole deal. I can’t remember exactly, but my thinking is that this voting will decide those finalist. So as long as Wall makes the top 5, we’re good.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:17 pm
the kid on the left has matt jones hair cut
February 9th, 2010 at 3:20 pm
5….spot on!!!
February 9th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
There is no reason a chinese guy should beat Wall for the cousy award. I didn’t even know chinese people that aren’t freakishly tall even play ball.

Jerseys Suck badly. Plain and simple they are the same as the other good school’s. Nike threw us the shaft on this one and I really don’t see the point of getting these mid season. Frankly its just plain silly and a way for Nike to make money. That is why people like Cal so much, he sells like a used car salesman. This is a good thing for recruiting but a bad thing for people without brains who will buy whatever he says. The man is italian and has one of those middle class chips on his shoulder that says to him every second of every day “make more money, make more money, money is power, make more money.” Oh well he wins and frankly that is all I care about.
With that award, you can use fake email addy’s so everyone should vote at least 20x. However I would not hold out hope. Some Harvard kid will think of a bug that just allows the computer to place votes as fast as it can all day. I dont think our Kentucky blue-collar ways will outdo the pure unflappable intelligence of some Asian 13 year old who goes to harvard.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:22 pm
I’m not really believing that these are the primary jerseys that are supposed to be unveiled this week. While it is very believable that Nike would use a design similar to Texas and Duke, it just doesn’t make sense that they’d be released before the players ever wear them.
Most likely, the players don the new jerseys on Saturday on prime time national television, not tonight on ESPNU or whatever. Think about how under-wraps the UK2K design was until the very moment of release, and then how they flew off the shelves bc of great marketing (aka, Cousins dancing in one with Jamaal Mashburn waxing sentimental in the background). Nike understands the “big splash” effect and they’ll definitely utilize it.
Also, UK has known the LBJ VIIs were coming for quite a while, so they would’ve known that the new shoes would need to match the new uniforms; so, Nike has to revamp the uniform mid-project (maybe, say, starting in September, when they had already started the original revamp in April when Cal was hired). So, they’re stuck with a bunch of half-assed jerseys and need to get rid of them before the real McCoy is released.
Lastly, why the hell would the Dick’s in Lexington be the one to release these jerseys early?
Put me in the camp of “these are odds and ends that Nike is trying to get out of their warehouses before releasing the long-term jersey”.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
Something fishy is going on here.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
12. U sir are a idiot. There will be no “long term” jersey ever again. These are the new ones and we are stuck with them for….as long as they are selling. Then a new one comes out with new speculation and the song and dance never end. Welcome to marketing 101. Guess you are not a B major.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
juan thinks this is an attempt at diversion…keep us busy over these uniforms while the REAL ones are tucked away safely in some warehouse around leestown road…matt jones was just getting too close….
February 9th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Never understood this fascination with jerseys and shoes, I care about the W’s and the titles, not what they are wearing.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
i hope ur right 12
February 9th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
(14) I didn’t mean “15 years” when I said “long-term”. I meant “long-term” in contrast to “short-term”/”novelty” (Keightly jerseys, throwback jerseys, etc). Whatever jersey we get will be worn by the team for about four or five years, I would assume.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
josh shelby decommitted from Tennessee because of us and now hes likely to go to somewhere else that’s not Kentucky. so i wouldn’t be surprised if Enes Kanter ended some where else.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
Over on the “Death Star of Sports” Hubert Davis, in the Tuesday preview segment, predicts that the UT “gun slingers” beat UK in Rupp Saturday! What is up with this guy? Will this clown be at Rupp for game day?

So I’m guessing Insight isn’t offering a free preview of ESPNU tonight for the game?
February 9th, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Yes to the one on the… wait, those aren’t hot chicks. What gives Jones?
February 9th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
(#12) Actually, you could buy the UK2K shirts before the game was even played, and if not mistaken the day before at the UK bookstore or Kennedy’s.
I hate the look of the new jerseys, I think Nike mistook the need for new jerseys to New Jersey’s and all the meatheads that would that is cool.

The Bob Cousy Award voting does have some impact in the final result. The winner of the fan voting gets 1 committee votes when the final decision is made later this year. Get out there and vote!

Big Blue Nation:
It looks like China wants to take us on for this award. We as a people must unite behind one Mr. John Wall, and defeat the Red Dragon and it’s preferred Ivy League ball-handler.
Yours in Blue,

February 9th, 2010 at 3:54 pm

February 9th, 2010 at 3:54 pm
So I need confirmation whether these are the new jerseys or not. If they are, see rants in previous posts. If not, thank The Lord. I don’t want to be associated with Duke in any way and will be very heated if these are the new ones.
February 9th, 2010 at 3:55 pm
YES BTI…..I have been on Lamebook since your post. Its funny stuff…but i have done very little at work today. My boss is cursing you right now.

Good for you Steven Pearl. Take advantage of yours status and our perky assets while you’re still in college. Don’t let anyone shame you into doing anything else. 5 years from now you’ll be sitting in a non-college bar and when you look around all you’ll see is fatties and single mom’s pounding jager bombs. Ask Tebow in 5 years how he feels.
February 9th, 2010 at 4:04 pm
Wall is winning by 3% now
February 9th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
I would pay somebody on gameday to bring a sign that says Bobby Knight is scared of Kentucky fans!
February 9th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
People who don’t think these are going to be the new unis are in for a surprise. I’ll bet any amount of money, these are the new jerseys. Why would Dicks be the ones to release these? They werent supposed to. Dicks will likely get in major trouble for releasing these to the public, before the they were revealed by the team. I won’t be surprised if they get pulled from the shelves
February 9th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
10 and 39) Don’t hate. Or if you must, at least get to know J. Lin’s game before you spout nonsense. He’s clutch, and his best performances have come against better teams (his game vs. UConn compares favorably with that of Wall.)
But he’s not John Wall, and there’s no way he should be close to #11 in the Cousy poll.
BBN, go vote!
February 9th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
WALL: Get of your A55e$ and vote dudes!
UNIFORMS: I was hoping for simple, but good fitting with a little black around the numbers or something to accent the new LB23 shoes. I would like to keep the Mr. Wildcat strip as well.
February 9th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Somebody at Harvard has figured out how to rig the Cousey poll. No way Wall and UK fans in general are trailing Jeremy Lin.
February 9th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Why is the kid wearing a Steelers hoodie? Bengals run the North now.. don’t get on me about how they lost in the first round cuz the steelers weren’t even there and from here on out like chad said pittsburgh is black/white tv the bengals are plasma

February 9th, 2010 at 4:36 pm
Ya, the Dick’s employee that put these out has probably already been fired…total letdown, I was excited to see them revealed for the first time on Gameday (if that was the plan). This sucks all the way around
February 9th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
My boss, a South Carolina grad, just forwarded me the cousy award voting link b/c he thought we UK fans would want to vote for the midget Downey (5′4″, 5′9″ with the afro)…just informed him that his e-mail address just voted for Wall.

Jeremy Lin is not Chinese. He was born in California and his parents immigrated here from Taiwan. Amazing player - put up 30 against UConn among other teams, but definitely not as good or talented than John Wall.
