This is just a quick post to make sure and not let “House Money” Jimmy Dykes’s latest comment get you to worked up. In case you missed it, Dykes sent out a Tweet that said:
John Wall says he’s not having fun and tries not to listen to Calapari. Keep an eye on this situation. Wow!
This almost certainly comes from the Alan Cutler story Saturday about Wall and his comments made to the media. Calipari addressed those comments today and said,
“He comes in like a puppy dog and says, ‘Coach I need to talk to you, I am frustrated.’ I told him, ‘just play and enjoy yourself. When you play bad, its ok to play bad. You act like you cant play bad. Yes you can. He came over and said ‘I love you” and hugged me and left.”
So there you go, besides the awkwardness of the Calipari-Wall man-love hug, the story has been addressed. As I said on Saturday, context is key to this story. Wall wasnt saying that he doesnt listen to Calipari ever…just that he tunes out criticism at times during games. That is a very different point and those that act like there is a Wall-Calipari rift are just creating drama. Dykes is just late to the party with his tweet and is taking 48 hour old news and placing it in the mainstream again. Dont sweat it…you read this site and knew before Dykes that it wasnt a big deal.

I had some negative opinions that i posted in the last thread but this makes me feel a little better about the story. Just as long as these freshmen remember it is a team game and the team comes first.

No big deal should have know coming form the “worldwide leader” I had been out of the loop for a few days so I didn’t see the comments were addressed on this site long ago. Its all gravy here in BBN they will get it worked out! Coach Cal is a great coach and can manage those egos he has seen all this before. GO BIG BLUE!!

SportsCenter had a piece on it a couple of hours ago. Printed the quote on the screen and then asked… drumroll, please… Bob Knight to comment on it. Knight backed up Calipari (but lets face it, if Knight slammed Calipari for criticizing players…) and said Wall and other AAU superstars have never been criticized and they need to learn how to take it. And then they proceeded to talk about Tebow. Seriously. With Bob Knight. Because we all know Bob Knight’s credentials as an NFL draft pundit.

It’s this simple: Wall has not had anything to be frustrated with on a basketball court since he was 7 years old and playing against high schoolers until the last couple of weeks when he has had a few nearly human games, so he is just now having to deal with it for the first. time. He’s always been used to people telling him how great he is, because he has been, and still is, but has had a few struggles. He’s 19 years old going on $8,ooo.ooo a year. Jimmy Dykes is a turd and obviously playing with “house money” on this story. Every thing is lovely in Lexington.

Hey, I wonder who has the record for having the most comments deleted by the admin’s of the site. Not including stupid stuff with slurs, name calling, or just flat out over the line, but deletes because of critical comments about one of the bloggers or politics, that sort of thing. Not because of crass/crude, just due to general content.
I haven’t counted mine, but I bet it’s around 20.
(The most recent was when I told jonesey we didn’t need him to “calm us down,” that it was a preposterous notion. And Will Lentz’s open letters to the players were equally as preposterous, although mildly amusing to think of a 18 year old acting as sage to a player with a seasoned coach to look out for him.)

Great post Matt! I just wish the players could know that UK basketball is a family. As fans, we are obcessed with everything UK related. We look at the players as if they are our own kids or family. Its no different than when a family member does something bad and it really bothers you, but you kind of get on to them a little bit and criticize them to make better decisions, but you still love them undeniably and just want the best for them. Sometimes we criticize our own team and players for playing bad, but they’re our UK family. If any outsiders try to criticize them in the same way, then we would fight for our own. I love our players and team like my own family, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t get frustrated watching them sometimes ONLY because I want the absolute best for them! God bless them all and GO BIG BLUE!!!

Don’t you think the national media does a poor job covering UK games? They never tell you anything you do not already know. The only thing good is the national exposure.
Who was the girl that did the UL-WVA game? She was good. She focused on the fundamentals of basketball. Oh well if only the radio broadcast would delay a couple seconds it could be like the good ole days with Cawood where you turn down the TV. Tell that to Tom Leach next time you see him.

People at home need to turn down then sound, and thus turn off Jimmy Dykes, and listen to our man Mr. Leach on the AM RADIO dial! Just like the grand ole days with Cawood. Try it, you won’t get so frustrated. And AM radio has the sound just about “live”, like TV, whereas FM has the 8 second delay.

Dykes is in the running for the worse color commentators in all of college bball. Its almost as if he perseverates on a topic….repeating himself 4-5 times before he can move on. I cant remember a guy who after a commercial break, continues to beat a dead horse as he does. As for his tweet…its just another example of a media member retweeting a topic without using the RT key!
And how do you morons bring Rush in to this thread. I am nearly as conservative as can be but I realize that Rush is nothing more than an entertainer. I occassionally agree with his opinions, but he manages to exploit and exagerrate nearly every topic which turns me away. But he is good at what he does…entertains…therefore he makes a lot of money doing it. As long as he can increase someones blood pressure, he will always have a job!
