[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Like all of you, I am a bit nervous about the game on Saturday. Logic tells us that UNC will likely give Kentucky a beatdown in Rupp, the likes of which we dont often see. UNC is better at nearly every position, is much deeper and is poised to make a run at a national championship. UK is in the first year of a coaching change and is dealing with a number of injuries that are making things difficult. But nevertheless, we can never give up….we must FIGHT! (is that from Braveheart?)
I have mixed emotions on the Heels best player Tyler Hansborough. I like his aggression and he plays hard, but he also seems a little bit socially awkward and probably would not be that fun to be around. Bomani Jones has me believing that Roy cant coach and I was never that big of a fan of their color of Blue. But I do admit that I have a soft spot in my heart for the Heels, due largely to my adoption of the team (along with the Wolfpack) during my days of self-hatred while at Duke. Thus while I like beating the 2nd best program in NCAA history, I dont hate them…..I just like to see their white boys who hold each other back at the end of the bench cry.

FIRST LETS GO BIG BLUE
November 30th, 2007 at 5:10 pm
hansbrough = beaker from the muppets
November 30th, 2007 at 5:16 pm
God….I’m so nervous about the game tommorow. These guys have to play perfect ball for us to have a chance.Bradley cannot do the things he’s been known for thru out his tenure here i.e. over dribbling poor shot selecton and most important T.O.’s I say we have a chance albeit not that great. With great reluctance I say Heels 91 Cats 78,God I hope I’m wrong!!!!
November 30th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
I ain’t skeered of ‘em. Don’t be nervous number 3. We literally have no chance to win. So, get past it now so if we come close or actually pull a miracle, then you will be fine. I do think that BCG will coach different, use a tighter rotation and not “punish” players like he has in these other games. I’d say he coaches his ass off and the players play their asses off. Let’s see how it goes! Go Big Blue!
November 30th, 2007 at 5:31 pm
And many years from now, dying in your beds, will you be able to say you looked your enemy in the eyes and said you may take my life, but you will never take my freedom!
November 30th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
Rock on.
November 30th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Matt days at Duke? The beans have been spilt! Now I know why you forgive Vitale.
November 30th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
love the braveheart reference.
I am nervous of course but I am nervous before every game. I am not expecting a win but all im looking for is improvement every time we play. Last year we were hit with a wrecking ball. this year we rebuild. next year back on top.
November 30th, 2007 at 6:00 pm
We WILL NOT be back on top next year. Can you people not get that?
We wil still have no center and at this point only have guards joining as freshmen. This rebuild will take Billy G. the better part of 3 years, if we’re lucky and PP stays around.
Tubby got nine years to get to the Final Four with his own players, but Billy G. gets 2? I’m beginning to understand why people outside Kentucky say we’re such retards. I’m glad we lost the game to Gartner Webb though, so we get to really see where this job TRUELY started. It will make the climb THAT MUCH MORE significant. Give this damn coach a break… I’m gonna get my damn shotgun if you people keep up with this crap.
November 30th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
#7 is this your first week on the site? how do you not know that he went to duke law school?
November 30th, 2007 at 6:35 pm
2 spot on
November 30th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
Matt…can personally attest to Tyler being ’socially awkward’. Mouth-breather comes to mind. Nice guy, though.
November 30th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Well, I like to see UNC’s black boys cry that are on the floor and not just the white boys on the bench. If this post is deleted, I will claim racism and it would be true.
November 30th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
#9 im just trying to be positive. I will stick with our coach as long as he is here. I support UK 100% no matter what. if i say back on top next year, that is because i want to be back on top next year. If we are not I will not turn my back on the coach or the program. Just sending out the positive vibe!
November 30th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
I have yet to see the press conference quotes on UKathletics yet. Did Gillispie have one today?
November 30th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Cats win a squeaker (by 2) in OT.
Justa hunch.
November 30th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
I hate them
November 30th, 2007 at 7:40 pm
Does anyone remember when Roy Williams’s Kansas team demolished Pitino’s first Kentucky team, 150-95? That was a rebuilding year for Ky, and 4 years later Pitino had built a Final Four team. I see a resemblance in this scenario with that one. It is Gillispie’s first year, a rebuilding year, Roy Williams is now bringing a highly ranked North Carolina team, and will probably beat us handily (although I hope not). 3-4 years from now, a possible Final Four team for Ky? Hmmm?
November 30th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
#9 You’re the problem. This is KENTUCKY, not Podunk Junior College. We expect wins and winners and excuses aren’t acceptable. You constantly and continually blame Tubby Smith for our problems, that’s a joke dummy. We averaged 22 wins a year under Tubby. We expect BETTER out of Billy G. and nothing less. Let’s give our team and coach the same support as we have in the past. In your case that means for sale signs in the yard at the first sign of losing our national prominence doesn’t it? I personally believe we have some excellent players, Crawford, Patterson, Stewart, Meeks, and maybe even Bradley. Why should we expect to be losers????? No we don’t have the talent we’ve had in some of our previous years but we do have talent. Let the injuries heal and let’s see what happens but please stop the crying and let’s never accept losing.
November 30th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
UK averaged 26 W (not 22) the past 10 years. Also 26 W the past 5 years with 100% his recruits.
UK averaged 19 W per season (all-time) with 1950 W in 104 seasons.
November 30th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
I think the Cats will come out and play their hearts out tomorrow. Rupp is going to be rocking when we mount a huge run at the start of the second half.
November 30th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
I also think Patterson will own TH much in the same fashion that Randolph Morris did two years in a roww

RUPP IS OUR HOUSE AND WE ARE KENTUCKY!
November 30th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
The house better be rockin’ tomorrow. If not, we will get blown out.
November 30th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
Morris didn’t play Hansbrough two years ago. Remember that 14 game suspension? He did dominate him last year.
November 30th, 2007 at 10:05 pm
Here comes #19 BPatte riding in on his pink unicorn. If you even knew what you were arguing it would be real helpful. But regardless of what you run on about, you will never have a clue on what your point really is.
Remember, never take a sleeping pill and a laxative before start typing ever again.
November 30th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
#28 I dont think he realized you were the one defending this team and Gillispie to begin with! You are right he was arguing with you without actually seeing what you were trying to say!
November 30th, 2007 at 10:33 pm
Ill take whatever help i can get. Lawson not expected to play tomorrow.

Cats just don’t have the talent to compete with UNC plan and simple. Plus if you don’t know Tyler H don’t talk about the kid.. UK will come out and play hard but won’t beat UNC they are to good and to deep at every position.. PP will struggle with UNC big men there are to many for PP and talented also, not saying PP isn’t talented.
November 30th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
#28 I will explain my point to your sissy ass. You made the statement you were glad we lost to Gartner Webb (Your spelling) so we would all know where BG’s job started. That is one stupid, and ignorant statement. I’ll never be glad Ky loses, not matter what the circumstances. You’re saying that Tubby left the program in such a shambles that we aren’t even able to beat a team the caliber of GW! If Tubby had been on the bench that night no way GW beats us. You’re a racist jerk who wants to blame TS for every problem you perceive our program has. You’re a loser and anyone who reads these blogs knows it. Let’s give BG 3-5 years to build a program at a school where I was corrected in that we averaged 26 wins a year over the past 5 years with TS recruits???? So let the rebuilding of this poor program begin by losing to Podunk Jr. College and you as a so called fan are happy about that. I think it’s time we supported our team, coach and program and stopped blaming Tubby for our problems. Let BG stand on his own merit. He’s got a lot to prove to some of us. In the mean time take a chill pill or laxative or whatever you need and get off the blame Tubby tirade.
November 30th, 2007 at 10:40 pm
I am biased for the ex-cats but Rondo seems to be the perfect point guard for the big three. He really has no interest in scoring just wants to do the little things for the team. Stats for tonight are 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and he only attempted one shot the entire game.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
No wonder Matt loves doing these blogs..the comments are filled with as much if not more drama than an episode of The Hills!!
November 30th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
#31 Which team http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/Games/19900215LouisianaSta te.html had more talent?
Which team won???
November 30th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
#32 BPatte - In 3 years when Billy G. has rebuilt the program and we are competing with his guys people will look back on the Gardner Webb loss as the place where it all started. Let it be his loss, Tubby sure as hell didn’t have the balls to stick around to claim it.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:47 pm
Hey #32 ya jackass, not everybody that thinks Tubby performed poorly is racist.
November 30th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
#9 is a fool. a real fan is never glad when their team loses.

THAT NEEDS TO BE READ! PAT FORDE MAKES THINGS RIGHT!
November 30th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
#36 I hope i didnt start all this drama. I think I am the only one who understands what you meant in your #9 post. You are not glad we lost you just understand that Gillispie needs some time to make his mark on the program and you were saying when Gillispie finally does bring us back the gardner-webb game will have been what started it all. Everyone stop hating! We are all UK fans and we all went to win! Go Cats! Crush the Tarheels!!
November 30th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
#39 Sometimes I think Pat Forde loves UK a lot but I think he is actually just in love with Ashley so he tries to stay on her good side!
November 30th, 2007 at 11:59 pm
Women’s volleyball lost in case anyone cares.
I had been the biggest Tubby apologist in my family for a long time. He won me over totally in 98 because he won with a team who Pitino gave up on and with whom I never thought Pitino would have been able or willing to win. That being said in the end he seemed to recruit these fantastic athletes who can’t shoot to save their lives or their coache’s job. We are living with those bad-shooting seniors now.
I wanted Billy G. as soon as the our tourney game was over in March because I knew that would be the last game Tubby ever coached at UK. I wanted BCG,if Tubby left, as soon as I saw a couple of games and then read that NYTimes article on him. So now we have him, warts and all, and I think he will build a winner within a few years, I just thought there would be less down time with BCG at the helm.
That being said, I am not afraid of NC tomorrow, as I’ve never feared their pansy-blue team. And I have gone back and forth this week, but now I say bring them on. I am so glad I don’t have to look at their hideous blinding court tomorrow and get to see BCG’s and PatPatterson’s first big-time game at Rupp. I’ll stop now.
Go Big Blue!

Good article from Forde; thanks for the link #39. If it weren’t for y’all posting links to ACCESPN, they would never get read by this UK fan.

#40 GoCats - Certinaly I was not cheering when we lost to Gardner Webb as you know. As I said, the loss will be the defining point of how low things had gone. That loss is not all Tubbys fault, as Gillispie had his hands on the steering wheel, but anyone with a brain understands that implementing a new system and breaking kids of their old ways will cost you some games.
When BPatte calls you a racist bearing no proof it’s more like he’s just telling you he can’t challenge you on an intellectual level so he will regress to the name calling game that children play. That’s another way of giving up.
In Tubby Smith’s 9 seasons, he had 5 seasons with 10 or more losses. That more than any other coach in the history of UK basketball. Scotland, if you’d liek to do the averages on that, please BE MY GUEST.
In Rick Pitino’s 8 seasons, he had 1 (his first year).
In Joe B. Halls’ 13 seasons, he had 4.
in Adolph Rupp’s 41 seasons, he had 2.
BPatte, if you want more, you let me know.
December 1st, 2007 at 4:11 am
Matt, I hate UNC enough for both of us…..
December 1st, 2007 at 6:22 am
BPatte, don’t call someone a racist every team they say something negative about Tubby. It’s tiresome and laughable that you can’t criticize a black man nowadays without being called a racist.

#44 glad to help you with the college level math.
Pitino averaged 27.5 W and 6.2 L in 8 seasons. He won 1 NCAA title, 2 SEC titles, and 3 SECT championships. His teams finished #1 ranked in the polls once (1996).
Hall averaged 22.8 W and 7.7 L in 13 seasons. He won 1 NCAA title, 1 NIT title, 8 SEC titles, and 1 SECT championship (out of 7 SECT played). His teams finished #1 ranked once (1978).
Sutton averaged 22.5 W and 10 L in 4 seasons. He won 0 NCAA titles, 1 SEC title, and 2 SECT championships. His teams never finished #1 in the polls.
Tubby averaged 26.3 W and 8.3 L in 10 seasons. He won 1 NCAA title, 5 SEC titles, and 5 SECT championships. His teams finished #1 in the polls twice (1998 and 2003).
December 1st, 2007 at 7:02 am
Correction - Pitino won 5 SECT (not 3).
Sorry - no edit feature.
December 1st, 2007 at 8:02 am
who brought up race first in this blog?
December 1st, 2007 at 9:44 am
49) I also don’t think Pitino lost any home games his first year when his record was .500.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:21 am
“But nevertheless, we can never give up….we must FIGHT! (is that from Braveheart?)”
Sounds like a mix between the Jimmy V “don’t ever give up” speech that’s been on ESPN this week with Aragorn’s speech before the last battle in Return of the King (”this day, WE FIGHT!”), which is sort of Braveheart-ish.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:21 am
So what? The 1998 team lost 3 home games and won the NCAA.
The 1990 team lost 2 home games http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/1989-90.html to SW Louisiana and Louisville.
December 1st, 2007 at 10:44 am
Question: Who’s the only coach in UK history to have 4 straight losses in a row to Vanderbilt?
BPatte, Scotland, David Shelton? Which one of you would like to answer this one?
December 1st, 2007 at 10:53 am
Edit: In his 1st and 2nd year Joe Hall lost 4 straight to Vandy (1972/73 & 1973/74). Vandy was ranked and KY wasn’t in 3 of those 4.
What were the circumstances of the other time it happened?
December 1st, 2007 at 12:18 pm

#44 You are the kind of fan we all hate. One minute you’re talking about people on pink unicorns and the next minute you want to comment on someone else’s intelligence. You’re the first to call someone a name or try to degrade their character. You stated you were glad we lost. You are a racist and it has been obvious over the past two years with the comments you make on your posts. I agree that just because someone wanted Tubby gone, doesn’t make them a racist. Your comments have been racist and ignorant. Go back and read them. Look at how many times you start the name calling and derogatory statements against other posters, especially the ones that respect Tubby and make positive comments about him. And you’re not a racist? Put that confederate flag on the back of your truck and drive down my way dude. It’ll get stuck up your arse.
December 2nd, 2007 at 9:11 am
BPatte… are you really that ignorant?
December 2nd, 2007 at 10:50 am
#59 I would love to see a poll on who is the most ignorant poster on this site. I believe you’re the winner hands down. You’re jerk and racist idiot. Anyone with any sense can see it. Stop wasting our time by posting on here. This is my last comment about you and your posts, get a life. Without a doubt you’re a idiot. I’m still waiting for that pickup truck and confederate flag to show up. Maybe I should be checking the local hospital records to see if anyone came in with a flag pole rammed up his butt. I’m done with you sissy boy.
