Another sad addition to today as former Rupps Runt Tommy Kron has passed away after a battle with cancer. Kron was a two-time All SEC Third Team member and a starter on the famous 1966 UK team that lost to Texas Western. He was known as one of the tough guys on the team, famous for getting in people’s faces and playing with intensity. He passed away today at the age of 64.

very sad indeed. this hits an era where my dad really started to become a fan and Kron was one of my dads favorite players.

  3. Scotland Says:

Kron was a superb outside shooter with range to 25 or even 30 feet.

Dampier was better but Kron was next best outside shooter on The Runts.

Its been a sad day for the history of the Big Blue Nation. I hope that UK takes a moment to remember these 2 during the game this weekend.

Man, rough day for Kentucky basketball. Two Kentucky legends pass away, ESPN disses one of them with a stupid headline and UNC is beating Kentucky in a worldwide poll on ESPN.

  6. AlohaStateWildcat Says:

Have we ever lost two former players in two days? This is a rough week for the Big Blue faithful.

  7. GoCats Says:

    5) you are missing the silver lining to that ESPN poll. UNC is dominating if you go by total states but UK is tied for 1st based on kentucky fans are voting more than any other state! we are the best! kind of like UNC is winning the electoral college but UK has the popular vote!

The ONLY reason to watch any ESPN network is to see a ballgame or TiVo SportsCenter to fast forward through the days highlights. If you go there for news and opinions, you will just become irritated unless you are a brainless-ACC-kissass-loser-fan, in which case you will be right at home.

As for thier internet site…I believe its every non-one-of-those-ACC-guys-mentioned-aboves obligation to block those sites on your computer to avoid killing your own brain cells.

    :)

How can you not mention we lost Ralph Beard also?

retract my stupid post I thought that happened today and didn’t scroll down and read big DUH! Sad for both loses. I remember my dad talking about those players when I was a kid.

My first team….the one that started this whole love affair…Rupp’s
’s Runts. I was 10 and remember crying while watching this team go
down…several inflicted with the flu. That night stands out like
the day Kennedy got shot to me…..I remember where I was and who I
was with watching the Texas Western game. To me…losing Tommy Kron
is like losing one of the Beatles. God rest his soul….my prayers ar
are with his and Ralph’s families. Go CATS!!

  13. Scotland Says:

The first UK team that I followed, too. I was 14 though.

Tommy Kron was one of The Katzenjammer Kids (Rupp’s nickname for them). Larry Conley was another. Mickey Gibson of Hazard was the 3rd one but he never played varsity at UK.
