As we move through the down week of Kentucky basketball with no games and little to focus on beyond injuries, I thought it might be a good time to look and see what a couple of recruiting names of the past have done in their initial college basketball games. Longtime readers of this blog know that I had a soft spot for Marshall Moses and Jai Lucas, thanks largely to their epic performances on our radio show. Marshall Moses did the best Dick Vitale impersonation known to man, including doing Vitale calling one of his games in Rupp Arena. Alas it was not to be as Kentucky passed on him and left Moses at Oklahoma state. Well Marshall began his season last night in a game where his Cowboys lost to North Texas 82-73. The Mean Green got a big win against Sean Sutton and his turkey neck and Moses only played for 2 minutes, scoring no points. We shall see what happens as the year goes on, but the real news is that Marshall did qualify (which was a question) and is now ready to fire it up in Stillwater.
Likely our favorite guest ever on Kentucky Sports Radio was Jai Lucas, who initially won the crew over by showing Mosley and I how to do the “Shoulder Lean” back at the Nike Camp in Indy (well at least when Mosley was not busy trying to interview Michael Auriemma, UCONN women’s coach Geno’s kid). Lucas was always funny and entertaining and could do a mean impersonation of Tomlin’s voice when he wasnt around. Jai has begun his career at Florida and is averaging 9 points a game and is the team’s starting point guard. Lucas is already leading the team in minutes and assists and promises to be a thorn in UK’s side for a long time to come.
In other news, tonight is when we see how good those pesky Gardner-Webb kids are as they play UCONN in New York. CNNSI followed Gardner-Webb around NYC perpetuating the story that these are “bright-eyed” kids enjoying the big city and gosh darn it, they cant believe all those bright lights! But in reality, I am pulling for the guys and want to see them perform well. The little guy is always my guy, even when one of them looks like Powder below.

Any word if Sutton passed out?

Good job Tubby… thanks for not getting Marhsall moses when you had the chance… One of the most pathetic Least classy coaching jobs in history the way he jerked the poor kid around.

Missing out on Lucas was a killer. Just how bad
do we need a PG that can dribble and pass right now?
Of course, UK fans will still make fun of him calling him a
midget while he throws in 12 and dishes 10-11 times for assists
against us.

A GW win over UConn will heal
alot of wounds.A rout by the
Huskies will pour salt in them.

Who cares we lost to Gardner Webb… Tubby left us with scraps to work with. We will not win a championship this year… guess what we would not have made it to the NIT if Tubby was still here. BG needs a good 3 years of implementation to become a contender for the title.

Debbie Downer says “Feline Aids is the #1 killer of cats–wuh waaaahhhhh”

Look,
Auriemma is a star in the making–you’re just too short-sighted to see it.

I think it’s fun to keep an eye on the kids that spurned UK. Most often they don’t amount to much, but it’s fun either way to follow their careers. I checked the other day to see how Tyrone Nash performed for Notre Dame. I was curious if the player who infamously chose prep school over UK was worth all of the fuss. He played 4 minutes and got 2 pts and 6 rebs. Not too bad. I’m also interested in following Adam Williams, and was hoping to follow Rekalin Sims, but alas he had to beat up some handicapped guy.

Adam Williams, a would be UK junior, debuted for Marshall with 2 min and 2 pts against Pikeville College.

Tyrone Nash who spurned UK for… cough… prep school. Debuted for Notre Dame playing 4 min. and getting 2 pts and 6 reb. Not too shabby on the boards.

BCG’s first good year will come in two years when Meeks and Jasper are seniors (unless Jasper gets red-shirted). By then he will have HIS players in here and there will be no excuses.
The most important spot on the floor on every team is the 1. I think we will see that big time this year, we can do without big men, but you gotta have a general to run the offense on the court. Would be nice to have Lucas now.

anyone else see Jai Lucas get power bombed the other night.
November 15th, 2007 at 5:33 pm
#11- What a name, Tyrone Nash. One of tubby’s best Screw jobs on our program.
BTW- Hopson quoted once again today in the Kentucky New Era as saying, “I’m signing with Miss. State Friday night”.
Guess Maggard, Jones, and the other so-called recruiting experts missed it again.
November 15th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
I don’t understand the Hopson idea - he adds nothing to the 2008 class
Coach BCG will be looking for a larger player - several articles have been published and none mention Hopson

Missed what? I told you what he told Evan Daniels. I havent talked to Scotty in months

One stinkin’ big guy. That is all I ask! Can I get a Gimel Martinez, or Mark Pope for God Sakes? SOMEBODY?!!

I’ve been watching Lucas down here in FL’s games so far and folks.. he will be good but… he is really small and IS NOT a magic cure for anyone.
He makes mistakes like everyone else. In my opinion he will be a matchup disadvantage for Florida that will be exposed somewhere down the line. With small guards you usually think SUPER QUICK. I haven’t seen that yet. Granted, giving a review on a kid or team after 3 or so games like it’s the way things will be, is as shameful as anything BPatte, Scotland, or David Shelton could say about Gillespie, but, I’m not saying that is the way things will be.
He is a work in progress that will IMO be one way to exploit Florida in matchups down the road.
Matching up against Calathes (passing/shooting) it seems will be the problem so far. That kid is what I’m concerned about.

ATTENTION ALL POSTERS… I have found a word that you should avoid using if you want your post to go through:
a p p e a r s
That’s it. Don’t use it, as the filter Matt’s using is not liking it. Maybe the code came from Ireland.

Wow, #19 you are right..lol

Im pretty sure the guy in the back of the gardner webb picture played the monk in the Da Vinci Code

This team beat us on our home floor. Absolutely amazing. They have serious trouble with the zone. You gotta think CBC is smarter than this and was making a point to his players. I sure hope that was the case and I really hope our players are watching this game.

Yeah, I was at the game last night. Thank God I was able to sell my tickets for tonights games. Anyway, MSG was only about 1/3 full, and it was supposedly close to a sell out. Apparently a lot of UK fans didn’t even bother to sell their tickets. Funnier yet is the fact that in my section alone, there were 17 people wearing UK shirts and/or hats. We had a good time laughing it off that we blew good cash for the tourney only to have UK not play. The other fans around us seemed to be amused at us, too. After GW’s horrible play, they sat in the row right next to me. I had to really refrain from smacking them on the back of their heads and asking them why they couldn’t have played like they did at Rupp last week!
