What about Billy Clyde taking over for John Pelphrey at Arkansas at season’s end? Of course, this is all just one fool’s opinion at this point, but he does seem to be one desperate fool. With Pelphrey really struggling to put a quality product on the floor, multiple disciplinary issues and a dwindling crowd at Bud Walton, it should be no secret that Pel is on the hot seat. AD’s can typically stand losing a few games until the program gets on track, but when a team regresses like Arkansas has, the solution always seems to be to stick it to the coach. It wouldn’t shock me in the least if Pel is let go after this season as the calls for his head are growing stronger by the day.
This is where one genius from hogcountryonline.com had the brilliant idea of hiring Billy Gillispie as a replacement at season’s end, showing such a breadth of understanding of the BCG/UK situation in saying:
Kentucky let him go because, well, they don’t like being challenged and by all accounts Gillispie was not shy about his disappointment in not having a contract signed. You really can’t blame him.
Of course, this is a sore spot for most Kentucky fans. Pel is one of our own and we’ve watched like proud papas as he’s ascended the coaching ranks. Heck, some wanted him to be UK’s head man after BCG was fired. But he has struggled lately at Arkansas. Is it time for him to go? Perhaps. But should be be replaced by Gillispie? Well, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. Unless Duke wanted to hire him. I would be ok with that. Definitely.

January 7th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
The apocalypse is near. Blessed be the fools.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
If Pelph is let let go, please please please let them hire Clyde. Then, move Arkansas to the
SEC East. I want Pelphrey to do well, but if he has to go, Clyde in the SEC is a dream scenario.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
Ignorace is bliss……
January 7th, 2010 at 1:07 pm
Ignorance…..damnit
January 7th, 2010 at 1:08 pm
Billy would never fit in at Arkansas…too many dry counties.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
I don’t think Pelph is in any trouble. They’ve been struggling a little because he had to suspend 4 or 5 players, including his starting PG and playmaker, Fortson, who just played his first game against Texas. From what I’ve heard from Ark people, they seem to be happy with Pelph. And even if they didn’t keep Pelph, they wouldn’t hire BCG. There is too many good young coaches out there…
January 7th, 2010 at 1:12 pm
They put their pants on the same way we do!
January 7th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
Pelph is just not though enough. He is getting whipped. Sound familiar????
January 7th, 2010 at 1:14 pm
That would be a pretty interesting rivalry booster.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Never happen… They will not get rid of John and they certainly will NOT hire the drinking one.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Please hire me Arkansas so I can get whipped by UK!!!!!
January 7th, 2010 at 1:20 pm
Pretty sure that Kentucky let me go because I was driving the program off a cliff.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:22 pm
Gillispie’s got the puppy scent.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:25 pm
No way. Pelph will be fine. Why would any SEC school hire a drunk who wrecked the car to the rolls royce. He could get the Pikeville job and he and Landon SLone could build that into a respectable program for mountain rednecks to enjoy. I watched my cousin give Landon Slone everything he wanted in the state tourney, but he was praised because he was the hillbilly. Not saying that everyone from that area are hillbillies but come on.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:30 pm
They hire me and it won’t be the players the university has to worry about at the fraternity parties.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Does anyone know anything about this bluegrass baptist team that C J leslie is playing against tomorrow? Doesn’t sound like it will be much of a game?!
January 7th, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Night Golf is big in Arkansas
January 7th, 2010 at 1:41 pm
Bluegrass Baptist is a school on the SE side of Lexington that has about 100 students total, no more than 20-25 in the senior class.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:42 pm
That’s just a bad opinion on what happened with UK and BCG. That guy is especially not a genius.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:49 pm
If they want that trainwreck let’em have him.
January 7th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
I love Pelphrey and want him to succeed. BUT, if they could get Billy Clyde to wear a red sportcoat, ooh and maybe some cowboy boots (ala Nolin), I’m all for the move. Picture that!
January 7th, 2010 at 1:57 pm
I want Pelphrey to succeed too, but he was an idiot to take that job. Arkansas was a train wreck that nobody could straighten out. Maybe one or two coaches down they will get it straightened out.
January 7th, 2010 at 2:00 pm
pelphrey is in over his head. He needs to lower his sights a little. never fear billy clyde will be back.could be the SEC who knows.
January 7th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
Pelphrey can handle that job. Sometimes it takes longer than it needs to to take out the trash.
I can’t fathom a program being desperate enough to hire clyde.
January 7th, 2010 at 2:06 pm
15-You are an idiot. Your name tells me you are taking your bromance to another level. Congrats on that. Doubt he’s interested, though.
You can kiss my hillbilly arse. Also, you need to learn how to spell. Slone is normally only spelled with the “S” capitalized. I assume you didn’t pick up on that at Midway. By the way, Pelph is from EKY.
January 7th, 2010 at 2:25 pm
perfect fit for him
January 7th, 2010 at 2:26 pm
Pelphrey can’t handle the arky job, if for no other reason than him wearing that red coat that clashes with his fire hair
January 7th, 2010 at 2:28 pm
Come on Hogs. Clyde, really? You can do better.
January 7th, 2010 at 2:33 pm
The article is gone?
January 7th, 2010 at 3:12 pm
I spend a lot of time in Arkansas and have lots of Razorback friends ! I would rather beat them than Louisville……ok…not quite that bad!! They really wanted bcg when they hired Pelph but were pleased. Now with their record I think they are ready for him to go. Empty seats lead to coaching changes and the fans are not there! Friend of mine went to the Arky -Tx game the other night and was very disappointed with the crowd just a tad over half full…for AR - TX !!! They hate each other as bad as UL and KY
January 7th, 2010 at 3:33 pm
Lest anyone forget, Billy Clyde initially said he would take the Arkansas job, pulled back, and then we hired him. I think the Razorbacks would love to have him.
January 7th, 2010 at 4:03 pm
That would suck for anybody to get fired and then replaced with BCG.
January 7th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
If they think Pelphrey can’t get it done what on earth makes them think BCG can.
January 7th, 2010 at 4:06 pm
Arkansas isn’t tough enough thats why their getting whipped. DUH
January 7th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Clyde at Arkansas would just be toooooo easy.
January 7th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
I need a drink
January 7th, 2010 at 5:08 pm
I miss Clyde. He was tuff behind The Dairy YumYum.
January 7th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Pel won’t last with the atrocious crowds they’ve been getting at Bud Walton this year.
January 7th, 2010 at 6:18 pm
6 Eddie Sutton found plenty to drink there…or is that why he came to UK ?
January 7th, 2010 at 7:01 pm
They just might take BCG over Pelphry. Let us not forget, BCG’s short resume prior to coming to UK was fairly impressive. Regardless of the impressions left by his time here as that of a crass drinking womanizer, the man knows basketball and somebody will take a chance on him.
January 7th, 2010 at 8:35 pm
Alan Cutler would love to run down Clyde again. Drunks cannot go the distance, Alan would smoke him in a match race in Fayetteville.
January 7th, 2010 at 10:53 pm
Pelphry’s problem is that he does not completely evaluate the class and maturity of his recruits. Fortson has been suspended for about as many games that he has played in since he arrived on campus. If they give him time and he gets his players together, they will be good. Texas barely squeaked one out against them and they were definitely deeper with talent.
January 7th, 2010 at 11:09 pm
41 what exactly do i know about bball? besides losing
January 8th, 2010 at 1:23 am
Someone should box that writer up and mail him to Abu Dhabi.
January 8th, 2010 at 7:01 am
That’s sad. Pel is just the victim of bad luck right now. It’s hard to do much when solid starters are sat out for disciplinary actions. He needs to have a chance to prove what he’s got with all players available to him.
January 8th, 2010 at 8:01 am
Link to post by the “fool” is dead.

at least the Eddie Sutton comparisons would continue…
