Pikeville Holds Meeks To Career High

by @ 9:45 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Pikeville brought their osteopathic brand of perimeter defense to Rupp and the result was as predictable as the ending of Grizzly Man. Joe Crawford responded well to his role as 8th man and has probably replaced Legion in their orders of appearance. He played quite well in my opinion, only reverting to his old ways of drop head and dribble on two occasions. Meeks was unchallenged tonite and Patterson played very well, albeit against some inferior competition. Coury showed tremendous effort in every last second of his time on the court (that goes from the moment he got the wave to go in until he returned to his Gatorade). Billy G’s style requires maximum effort on every trip or you will be back to the bench. What are your thoughts???

    Waste of 7 post

  7. David Shelton Says:

    Defense was shabby the 2nd
    half and the offense ragged.
    Attribute it to lack of
    intensity because of the
    competition.

  8. yellowshirt11 Says:

99 points, first game, completely different style of play and new coach… impressive

  9. David Shelton Says:

Man, we need to get some help
    for Patterson under the boards/
    Stevenson, Coury don’t cut it.
It’s going to be rough when
we start playing the real teams.

  10. uofkcats Says:

    Harris played really good defense

4 you need to see a head doctor. And learn some class. You must not be very old. Very childish post to say the least. Get a life.

  12. uofkcats Says:

    Porter is horrible

  13. uofkcats Says:

Bradley has really changed his game for the better

  14. manualcrimsons09 Says:

    wayyyy too many turnovers

  15. 10, 2, and 4 Says:

Gillispie’s postgame comments really are honest about each player’s good play and especially the poor play. No canned answers. Straight up.

  16. V-in-K Says:

    14) Bradley was awesome with assists, but still had too many turnovers.

  17. uofkcats Says:

There needs to be some changes with the crowd. A blind man would
never know that there were 1,000 people there much less 20,000

  18. lexslamman Says:

    Looked good:
    Meeks
    Patterson
    Crawford
    Bradley
    Harris
    Stevenson

    Looked decent:
    Coury

    Looked terrible:
    Porter
    Carter
    Perry

New offense looks a lot like the old, but better spacing and better passing.
New defense is almost non-existant, with the exception of Ramon Harris who really showed up ready rto play tonight. Maybe Gillispie can call up Tubby and get some tips on how to coach a decent defense.

  19. lexslamman Says:

Add AJ Stewart on to the ‘looked decent’ category.

  20. uofkcats Says:

Defense looked good in the first half. I am sure that is something
Gillispie will make a point of in practice. Porter needs to change his
attitude. Everytime the camera focused on him he looked like he wanted
    to cry

  21. CatFan3 Says:

Very good sign for the future of UK basketball. Love the aggressive mindset this team already has adopted. Hopefully the days of just staying between your man and the basket and hope they miss with 2 left on the shot clock is over. Once BCG gets more UK talent on campus it’s gonna get real ugly for the SEC again.

  22. jtwildcats457 Says:

Don’t forget they had a full speed practice for an hour and a half this afternoon before the game. Then to come out and play a full game and shoot as well as they did is a testimant to their conditioning. Turnovers were not great but overall I am very pleased.

  23. high and mighty Says:

hey uofkcats, why don’t you post some more?

  24. poon fan Says:

OK, just let me say this.

Seeing BCG on the sidelines felt a bit wierd for me. After the past 10 years seeing Tubby… it felt like a step father was in my house and running the show.

Couldn’t get a real sense of the team… to weak of competition.

  25. Papelbonbeingpapelbon Says:

    Well, we’re undefeated so far.

  26. robby Says:

well it felt great to watch basketball again…..its to hard to tell much from a game like this…..shootin was good, but we played competition that was to put it nicely “very weak”…….we’ll find out more next week

Turkey Hunter~ That’s an awesome headline!!!

  28. Scotland Says:

#18 Gillispie coached tremendous defense last year at Texas A&M. Look for more of the same this year at UK.
