Larry Vaught is reporting tonight that Mike Douglas, a 3 star Linebacker from Largo, Florida has committed to the Cats. Mike is 6′4″, 220 pounds and projects to play Defensive End in college. He had offers from Florida State, Ole Miss and Purdue, and picked the Cats because of his relationship with the coaches and his desire to play in the SEC. Another good get for the UK football staff, who have closed well in their recruiting this year.

Anybody watch Derreck Locke’s interview on Tom Leach’s site. Said he’s leaning one way. I say he’s a gonner. Hope not.

This dude looks like he’ll be a redshirt to gain 30/40 pounds.
December 14th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
How many does that make for this class…something like 23 commitments?
December 14th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
How does a 220lb’r get to be def end, when in NFL they are mostly 300 or thereabouts? He can gain 50+ lbs to get there? Why wouldn’t he be more of a linebacker?

I’m pretty sure he also went all the way to New Yawk to watch UK beat UConn in basketball with Pat Riley.

December 14th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Can’t you only have 25 commits. What’s the latest on the kid from Central High School. I’d like to see him in Blue!

Looks like you young folks don’t realize that’s Michael Douglas. The guy that committed to UK is Mike Douglas. And in an eerie 6 degrees of separation thing, it seems he’s an old friend of Tiger Woods…

Who’s next Mike Jones? Mike Joooooooooooooooooooooooones.
December 14th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
of 22 or 23 commits, we’ve got 1 freakin football player from Kentucky? Seriously. That’s a sad statement for high school football in the state of Kentucky. Basketball is even worse in the state. High School sports need to produce more D1 players around here.

10.) I assume you mean Tim Patterson. Well, since Louisville made a great hire, I think he’s going to UofL. I hope I’m wrong though. Last I heard it was down to UK and UofL.

Looks like a great get!
You can have more than 25 commits that sign letters of intent (you may sign 28). Keep in mind that the 23 we have right now are all verbal commits, and if history holds we may lose a couple prior to signing day and another couple on signing day.
However, no matter how many you sign, you can only actually have 25 on scholarship in one class when all is said and done. There didn’t used to be a cap, and there still isn’t for most conferences as far as I know. But when Ole Miss signed 37 players, the SEC decided to pull back a bit.
Oversigning is permissible because academics will prohibit a bunch of players from qualifying academically for most teams. We lost a bunch of our highest rated recruits in the past class (Terrell Mitchell, Demetri Merritt, and a few others). Auburn was brutalized by academic losses last year.

Yeah, our state is historically weak at producing top-flight college football talent, and even when we have it the players often go elsewhere. Football isn’t as embedded culturally as it is in the rest of the south. More importantly, we don’t have the population of many other states, and unlike much of the rest of the south, the racial demographics are not in our favor.

Welcome to WILDCAT NATION Mike. GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess that was an official visit he was on at the Garden watching the UConn game? Seems a bit old to me, but if he can harness some of the badassedness he drew on in ‘Falling Down’ than he might be a capable special teams contributor.
