The Best of the 2009-10 HoopMixTape was released recently and features a lot of guys on UK’s radar. CJ Leslie, Josh Selby, Chris Hill and Deuce Bello are the most relevant but you’ll also probably be interested in KC Ross-Miller, Perry Jones, Dominique Ferguson and Will Barton. Altogether is a pretty nice mix of some of the more athletic moves of the season so far.
Also, CJ Leslie is doing a player diary bi-monthly with 2kSports. In the first installment, CJ talks about UK’s win over North Carolina (which he seems pretty pumped about) and also talks about John Wall staying in his ear about attending Kentucky, which you gotta like hearing. I say that as if we could love our little J-Wally anymore….
Lastly, if you liked some of the videos that I’ve posted lately with interviews and highlights of some UK recruits, you can subscribe to a YouTube channel that I created that will be devoted to UK basketball recruiting. Throughout the rest of my time here at the legendary Kentucky Sports Radio, I’ll be doing as many of these videos as I’m able to (some tournaments restrict the making of video recordings). You can either create a YouTube account and subscribe or get the RSS feed of the channel, either should keep you up to date. Personally, I’ve always liked seeing more of the personal side of these recruits, getting a face to go along with the name and seeing how they react to certain questions, etc. I hope you guys feel the same and enjoy some of the content so far. My camera/editing skills should get better as time progresses…I hope.
Through the YouTube channel, I’ll also be “favoriting” other videos on YouTube that are of interest to UK fans. I see a lot of clips that I’d like to post but I can’t post them all. This should allow for me to search out and pass along more highlight clips and interviews that I otherwise couldn’t. For instance, you can check out this video that I just added to the favorites of UK’s new JUCO target, #1 JUCO recruit Ricardo Ratliffe, where he discusses topics VERY on point with UK’s new interest in his services.

I’m not up to speed on our recruiting, but I noticed on the 2ksports website that alot of the recruits had already signed or at least committed, including several to UNC. Any guesses as to why we havent got any committments beyond saying this or that recruit is going to wait till the spring?

3 – I wouldn’t worry about it. We didn’t hire Cal ’til April this year and he still landed one of the best classes of all time.

Ken T. Ucky: Difference between now and then. He already had Wall, Cousins, and Dodson on board for Memphis. Orton and Hood were already coming to UK. You think we’re in that position now?

5 – I’m sure we won’t have the top class of 2010 but we’ll be in good shape when all is said and done.

There are still a lot of good players out there. Brandon Knight can come in and take over Wall’s spot. Not be as good but make things happen. As far as I am concerned Boogie is not going anywhere at this point. He may, and certainly has the potential, to go pro but as of right now, not yet. In a somewhat perfect world that leaves us with Orton, Bledsoe, Cousins, from this great class. Add to that Selby or Knight and we are still a great team next year. In a perfect world Wall and Patterson decide they want to repeat for a championship and stick around.

Not to mention the addition of Stacey Poole.

We have a GREAT shot at landing Brandon Knight,CJ Leslie, Doron Lamb, and add Stacey Poole to that and we will have a Top-5 class. Terrence Jones is a strong possibility also. These Nationally Televised games are helping UK recruiting a GREAT deal. Blue Chip recruits want to play for Title Contenders and UK will be Title Contenders for years to come.

Im not worried about recruiting, but what I cant understand is why Memphis still keeps getting recruit after recruit even after their head coach leaves and they are still in possible trouble with the NCAA

Things are not looking good in “Da Ville”!! Wouldn’t it be interesting if their Dec 12th game was a showcase of Ralph Willard’s first head coaching gig (WKU) vs his NEXT head coaching gig? Hey, I’m just throwin’ it out there ya understand…

For those of you living in a hole, Mark Ingram is the Heisman winner. Tim Tebow did not cry after losing. Needless to say I am surprised.

It’s good to see another SEC player bring it home. Ingram seems like a good guy.

#10 – Memphis will begin a slow descent into irrelevancy over the next few years. #1, they play in a pathetic conference that gets no coverage, #2, They have a 32 year old kid who is just starting out in coaching. Time will tell if he can handle adversity and a lot of star players, and we will have to see if he can put players in the NBA.
