Both Jeff Drummond and the always well-dressed Chip Cosby are reporting that Kentucky has received a verbal from 2011 athlete Jon Davis of Eastern. Davis, a 6′3″, 233 pounder with offers from Louisville, Illinois, Purdue, Stanford and Western Kentucky, attended the UK-UNC basketball game last weekend. The physical specimen is projected by Scout.com as a tight end but has also played running back, safety and linebacker in high school. Davis also received interest from Notre Dame, UCLA and Tennessee.
His commitment - the first from a 2011 prospect - also serves as a statement to new coach Cards coach Charlie Strong, fresh off the commitment of Seneca’s star QB DeMarcus Smith, that the Cats aren’t ready to give up Louisville yet. There will be some very good recruiting battles in that city the next few years.

Good get for the Cats. I doubt DeMarcus Smith would play QB for Kentucky. When will / should Joker take over as UK head coach?
