 Kentucky Georgia Football

We all woke up feeling a little down today after watching a our Cats fall in heartbreaking fashion to them dirty snitches last night (Will will have more in a few), but Derrick Locke has apparently decided to stop looking back and focusing on the future.  From the gold mine of news, Facebook:

Love my fans… well @ least the tru ones… sry we lost another game we shoulda won……got a lot to think about….senior season coming up should I stay or should I go????

The junior from Hugo, Oklahoma has 1646 total yards (843 rushing) and 9 total touchdowns this year.

  1. UKUKUKUK Says:

Can we pick between Locke and Joker?????????

  2. UKwitness@UNC Says:

    Stay.

  3. justXwes Says:

as a fan, stay. as a realistic person that understands football, GO. there wont be a O-line to block for you like there has been this year, and you’ll likely be a first round draft pick.

  4. Cawood2Cal Says:

Locke should stay. The Freshman QB should stay. He’ll be great, just not so much last night.

  5. gmo Says:

First round pick???????????? COME ON. I’ll bet my house on that one. Hope he comes back. #1 stupid response.

  6. UKUKUKUK Says:

3 - You are wrong. There will be a solid offensive line next year. Please do not feed into the website guru BS. UK will be stronger in the skilled positions and have developed greater depth at every position today than quite some time.

The Cats will be competitive even moreso next season. Its those close games that make or break you. With Joker calling his sick a$$ plays in the final minute, talent won’t be the issue.

  7. SeoulCat Says:

#3, you’re delusional. There is absolutely no way Locke goes in the first round…or even in the first few rounds for that matter. He should come back, and I’m saying this strictly from the standpoint of what is best for him. Our O-line might be down next year, but our receiving corps & QB position should be much improved. A better passing attack will help keep the opposing defenses honest, so I would wager that he would have a much better year running the ball (and thus improving his stock) in 2010-11.

  8. HackRichards Says:

Well Hell…Don’t be disgruntled Mr. Lock at our play calling in the final seconds of a couple games that we could/should and probably would have won ifin you or Mr. Cobb had had the ball in your hands. Barring injury your stock will improve with another year. BUT test the waters - Get some GOOD advice - Not just advice. If you are assured of some guaranteed money - GO FOR IT!

  9. Cawood2Cal Says:

Locke is rated the 314th best overall player for the draft — 22nd RB. Right now, he’d probably go at best in the 6th round. That said, I love Locke and hope he goes in the 1st round if he decided.

  10. UKUKUKUK Says:

Locke is just hungover and upset from the loss. He’s like anyone else. He’s pissed cuz he knows that the game was theirs for the taken and fully expected him or Cobb to finish it and walk off the field with the glory.

Its funny. You had 11 guys on the field but yet it was the guy in the press box that changed their destiny.

  11. asdfasdf Says:

STAY, are you kidding? First round pick, no way. He can only improve his pro potential by staying.

  12. UKUKUKUK Says:

He’s not going anywhere. Mark it down. He’s coming back. He’s pissed and has every right to be. He shouldn’t go about it this way but I haave a feeling he wants the coaches to get word of his anger without going directly to them.

  13. Cawood2Cal Says:

    12. Don’t put words in his mouth.

  14. UKUKUKUK Says:

13 - Point well taken. He’ll be back for next season though.

  15. Japrick Says:

If he wants to be more than a special teams player, he needs to come back. A guy of his size needs to prove he can take a beating without getting worn down. He hasn’t yet done that.

  16. hoptowns beast Says:

Locke is good but not yet great. There’s no way he will go in the first round. He’s not even a top 10 running back at this point. one more season would help him alot.

  17. ToeMater Says:

The kid asks a legitimate question. Someone earlier in the comments threw out the “barring injury” statement, unfortunately there’s no way to “bar” injury so that makes leaving early a reasonable consideration. Assuming this is Brooks’ last year and Choker takes over as head coach you can expect to see Kentucky drift back into “also ran” status in the SEC. That won’t be helpful for his draft situation. With his size he’s not going to be at the top of the board as an everyday back in the NFL, but with his speed there are likely teams that would look at him as a kick returner. While it’s certainly doubtful that would get him drafted in the first round, it might get him some cash a little further down in the draft. As for his stock rising with another year in college, it’s possible but not likely. Even if the passing game improves greatly, he’ll be running behind a much less experienced “O” line. That while equate to more punishment and an increased likelihood of injury. From the FAN prospective I would much rather he stay and make plays for my team, but if he gets GOOD advice and that advice says go than how could anybody blame him.

  18. fearnloathing20 Says:

Want him to stay but his value may well be as good as it will get. Its gonna be tough going next year after this o-line is gone.

  19. mocha Says:

in news as of 1130am, locke removed that post. BBN, media (cutler twitter), KSR was blowing this up today…for the record, I think he should stay

  20. SomeDudeCRO Says:

    Please stay…. I love Locke!

  21. david8577 Says:

Count me as another huge Locke fan.

  22. BigBlueFan Says:

Go, no need to suffer through another year of bad coaching.

  23. lousyvilleCAT Says:

i like locke, i like having a track guy with the ball in his hands. wonder why our staff thought the big ol QB was faster to the end? fact is, in the 2nd half we were awful. i say “we” because my old self felt like i was in there with them haha. i think we failed on several fronts. defensively we cant stop a “good” running back. offensively if one guy has a bad night, we suck. i believe our best QB wore a redshirt this year. anyone notice that trevard lindley hasnt been the same since he got hurt? the obvious big problem is how we all feel about the play calling. i think it is on both sides of the ball myself, it is never quite right for the situation. do we ever play a freshman as a reserve on either line? at linebacker? secondary ? when the junior or senior leaves, we always seem to put a totally green kid in their spot. oh and one more thing, this kid larod king, did he miss the bus? that kid can and has made some catches in the last couple of games. ok my rant is over, it isnt an english composition, just a collection of thoughts and questions that i cant get answers to. UGH. go cats.

  24. CatFan4444 Says:

If our coaches can’t call plays any better next year, I would go. No reason for that nonsense. Cobb and Locke are the difference makers. Put the ball in their hands when in doubt.

  25. BgallowayUofK Says:

    #3…haha

  26. bigbluedude Says:

where is he going to go? the nfl isnt exactly knocking the door down for 5′7 185 pound backs. dont get me wrong, i love d-locke, but to think he would be a high draft choice is just delusional.

  27. elstie01 Says:

    26. agreed. 1st round pick! ain’t no way? considering the talent that has come out of UK the past few season that has had to prove themselves rather than get drafted…or got drafted and then cut a few year later…there’s no way Locke is a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc. etc. etc. rounder. Sorry, no offense to you Derrick…but it ain’t happening. You will get more love in the 4 yrs. at UK than you will the rest of your life. In every sport if you were a standout UK player you will always have a good, high paying job waiting for you after college. stay and get a degree. hope to see you out there next year.

  28. boomdaddy Says:

Hell, I can’t blame him if he was to leave early. UK sure didn’t feel like using him at the end of the game, opting to use the well honed passing skills of a freshman QB instead.

  29. Flop Says:

I love Derrick Locke. I love what he brings to this team.

That said, this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

He needs to calm down and look at what’s best for his future. He has no shot at being a first day pick this year.

  30. gcat4496 Says:

This is puzzling. Seems like UK is sending a lot of guys to the NFL or at least they have a shot, and yet this program just seems to be stuck in nuetral.

Can’t get the last drive out of my mind because it is so similar to the past goaline meltdowns this offense has suffered aganst UT in now 3 of the last 4 games. 3rd and 5 at the 8 with really enought time to run 6 more plays in regulation if we got the 1st down, and they play for the tie, knowing that UT totally dominated us in the 2nd half on both sides of the ball. You take Cobb to the corner with a run pass option type play and I am sure he would get it done.

  31. tl661923 Says:

If he goes now he’ll only have a shot as a KR/PR and to be honest if he doesn’t get to the 200 LB mark he may never have a chance as a RB (in the NFL) so stay and put some more LBS on or stay and work on being a slot receiver if his dream is to not just be a return man.

If he goes now chances are he goes 6th or undrafted and signs as a return man with a slim chance of a long career.

  32. JaredCarterFanClubPres Says:

please stay Locke…next year we will have more experience at QB and recving so it should make it easier to run..KSR higher ups need to start a campaign to get Locke to stay…show him some love!

  33. njcat54 Says:

Hey Derrick… we really appreciate the great effort you and your teammates came up with yesterday. Its obvious from the comments on this site that you guys have the support of the fans. Hang in there, we know you guys are doing everything you can to get this program over the hump. And going to 4 straight bowl games shows that the seniors have been more successful than any other class over the past 30 years. Thats saying something.

  34. Blue_Lawlz Says:

Derrick Locke…I want you to stay, you’re AWESOME! But I think your stock is about as high as it’ll get with us losing so many great O-liners.

I hope you do great in the Pros, and if you go this year, best of luck to you. But you know we’d love to have you back.
