I’m old and I wear funny hats!

-Do you see that face? That is a man that could potentially haunt our dreams. Rider University is the alma mater of none other than Richard “Digger” Phelps. (Do you think he would mind if we call him Dick Digger Phelps? That has a better ring to it.) Anyway, he played there in the early 1960’s and started coaching there as an assistent in 1963. I can’t even imagine the smug gloating that would occur should his team upset the Wildcats today. Even if it is close, expect the Czar of the Highlighter to ham it up more than usual. Here is some reading on Digger’s history with the Cats.

-Rider is a college that is much more fun to say with a Boston accent. Throw in a Kennedy ‘er, ah’ in front of it and you get, ‘er, ah, Ridah’. Much better than the Kentucky accent: rye-dur.

-I’m probably going to order some UK themed M&M’s for the holidays. The face printing brings up an interesting question: Should I get some with Cal and Brooks on it as an homage or should it be Pitino and Pearl because you actually eat them? I’m thinking this might be more of a urinal screen situation and go with the Pitino-Pearl combo. Let’s just hope they don’t turn out like Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Bean where they taste like their picture. Garlic and back hair M&M flavor would be terrible.

-I was all ready to bust on the rider mascot for being a horse and suggest that they change it to something more reflective of New Jersey. Stuff like the Rider Gardners or the Rider Mobsters or the Rider Annoyingly-Loud-Gum-Popping-Jersey-Girls. Then I found out that New Jersey has more horses per square mile than any other state and the US Equestrian Team is headquartered in NJ.

Color me surprised.

-Not much left but to issue my own prediction. I see the Wildcats taking note of the upset of UNC last night as well as all the chatter surrounding their bad defensive play. I say it galvanizes the team and they issue a beat-down of epic proportions. UK wins 97-52 as Hood, Liggins, Dodson, and Jorts all get to see action today.
