Rich Brooks announced today that quarterback Mike Hartline will not be available in the Cats’ last two games against Georgia and Tennessee. He will have surgery to repair cartiledge damage and the 2009 Libert Bowl MVP could be ready to go when the Cats make their fourth straight bowl appearance. In the meantime, the Morgan Newton era will continue.

Wow didn’t see this coming, I’m disappointed. Good luck to him with his surgery.

The decision has been made for Brooks now. All the best personally to Mike in his recovery, but I’m glad temptation can’t get to Brooks and Joker again and think playing him in a major role is a good idea after what Newton has shown he can do with Cobb.

maybe this will clear up any quarterback confusion

Best of luck to Hartline in surgery and hope he has a speedy recovery.. I think Newton/Cobb should ride out the rest of the season even if Hartline comes back though. I would be wary with a healthy Hartline in the bowl…let alone a rusty one coming off of injury.

I know he’s a great kid and all and I would never wish an injury on anyone, but good lord he’s horrible. Now we can move on with our football lives. Newton is our future, I think, and he needs to play. I sincerely wish Mike a speedy recovery and all the best.

Sucks for Mike, but no longer having to split reps in practice amongst 3 quarterbacks is a huge plus for UK. Unless Joker can’t resist and wants to mix Fidler back into the stew.
Along those lines, the broadcast listed Joker as “Head Coach of Offense / WR”. Does UK not have a dedicated position coach at WR? Is this why we can’t come close to completing a pass beyond 8 yards? Me thinks Joker has way too much on his plate and they need someone dedicated to this important job.
We have size and speed on the outside, pretty decent O-line protection, an All-American qb with Newton, and a first-rate running game to set up the pass…. why else is our passing game abyssmal?
