We’re only two exhibition games into this 2009-10 basketball season, but that isn’t stopping the sports writing force that is Jeff Goodman from already dishing out a bracket. FoxSports.com’s senior college basketball writer puts the Cats in the Final Four as the top seed from the south (do they still do the region names?), but has them losing to his eventual national champions, Texas (who might be the only team in the country with more long-distance shooting issues than UK). Goodman puts pre-season Kansas in the title game against their conference foes and throws a little curveball by placing a team absent from last year’s tourney, Georgia Tech, in the Final Four too.
Goodman does show some good faith in the SEC too, placing six teams in the tournament. His confidence in a still Renardo Sidney-less Mississippi State team does not appear to be too high, though, as he gives them an #11 seed. The other teams are Tennesee (#3 seed), Ole Miss, (#7), Vandy (#8), South Carolina (10). The Filthy Cards are a #7 seed.

It’s cool that he has us picked to go to the final four, but it’s equally as crazy to even come out with a complete bracket projection before the first game of the season has been played. Guess they got to do something to draw their paycheck.

Cool, we get to beat UConn 2x.

The only problem here is that Rick Barnes can’t win the tournament games. He recruits great players but always finds a way tochok come tournament time.

The part that I like is that he already knows where the upsets are. Without ever seeing a game he already knows where the bad matchups are. Genius.

UNC out in the second round and Duke out in the third. Love it!
If the final four really turns out that way, no way we loose to Texas. Rick Barnes never won a big game in his life.

I see we got a rematch with Weber St. Our region is loaded though…..UNC, UConn, Oklahoma, and Nova. But since its not reality..oh well.

For anyone to be able to project the field at this point is insane!

It’s funny how quickly a fan’s and a blog’s opinion about a certain senior basketball writer can change so quickly. Remember when we scoffed and berated Jeff Goodman when he said that UK woudn’t be in the top 8 of the Big East last year? Turns out him being right, Billy G being gone, Cal taking over the world, and Jeff suddenly loving the Cats and giving us possibly the most positive and visible press of any writer has turned him from media enemy #1 to media favorite!
I love it. Go Cats.

3 GREAT things about this bracket:
1) UK in the Final Four.
2) Louisville getting beat by Purdue in second round (along with UNC).
3) Arizona not even in the field (24 consecutive appearances).
GO CATS!

Western Kentucky went down to Atlanta and beat Georgia Tech in a closed full-game scrimmage so I don’t know about them in the final four. Put Western in there in that case.

14 thanks for the info. Western returns 5 of its 6 leading scorers from last year and adds a decent recruiting class.
They play a pretty tough non-conference schedule (louisville, Miss St ect…) so we should know where they stack up nationally by Jan.

Hahaha Hardy har Har

No way Miss. St gets a seed as low as a 11 seed. Oklahoma? don’t buy it, not with one half decent freshmen point guard and no interior presence…. oh wait this isn’t the real thing is it?

Ok first off two thinks strike me as funny…West Virginia #1 seed in the east and Georgia Tech in the final four..seriously…really! They got beat in a scrmmage by the hilltoppers of Western KY a few weeks ago…but it is good to see the cats in the final four…that would not be to bad for Cal’s 1st year!
