Michael Henig’s Interception Friday

Some notes on a football not intercepted by LSU…..

Ouch that was painful. As excited as I was to watch the opening of college football, watching Miss St get it handed to them by LSU was…..well difficult. In some ways, the game was a perfect example of how fickle college football can be. While LSU ended up winning a game that looks like a complete rout, those who watched the first half could easily say that the game was in Miss St’s reach. The Bulldogs were generally right there, had a couple of drives into LSU territory….and then our boy Henig would throw one of his 6 interceptions. Down the stretch it was tough, but I stayed through till the end…..why, you say? Well of course because the over/under was 45 1/2……and yes the final score was 45-0. Kentucky Sports Radio had the under, LSU covering and Kent St winning. Another perfect night to begin the season…..gotta love it.

So what about Kent St. eh? We talked on the show tonight about how the smart money was on the Golden Flashes winning at Iowa St, and then they went and did it. The Kent St coach said on our show this summer that they believed they could win in Ames, and win they did. Now they come into Lexington next week and everyone should be on alert. The Kent St team makes very few mistakes, can run the football and now looks like a team that believes it isnt scare of a road game against a BCS conference school. Worth watching….

Louisville won in a sick fashion as expected. The line (that we could find) was 55 1/2 and somehow the Ville ended up passing it…..almost by halftime. The speed that the Cards have on offense is truly sick. They have guys that literally could run by Murray State on every play. I am going to make no broad comments on the meaning of this game, because there likely isnt one. Murray State was 1-10 last season in I-AA, so they had no business being in the game. But any worries that the offense in Louisville would not be stellar are gone…..beating them in two weeks will take something approaching 50 points.

The Steve Johnson thing is odd. We may learn more as time goes on but the decision by Rich Brooks not even to suspend the guy for one game showcases that people find the whole scenario a little fishy. I like Steve and think he is the key to the season….but I will be interested to see how this progresses.

I hope you heard the Hink-Kige Ramsey segments on the radio today. They were epic. Its been a good week with Gregg Doyel, Johnny the Freak, Bomani Jones and Woo doing the pick em contest. Woo picking games is BRILLIANT……just trust me on this. More as the day progresses…..

#2 & #5) You are the ones who need to get a life if someone saying “First, first…yeah me…” gets you torn up.

  4. JGCat Says:

Henig just needs to jump off of a building after tonight’s performance.

  5. Wick Says:

Not that our boys WOULD look past the Kent St. game, but their performance on the road tonight makes me fairly nervous. Hope they give us a good fight and go undefeated the REST of the season, but that we can take them out as is expected.

Also, I’ve got just a general point of discussion. I’d like to hear what eyewitnesses think about depth, particularly on defense. Reading that point above about how State seemed to hang with LSU reminds me a little of the Florida games I’ve seen with UK over the years… we’ll hang for a while, but when the first string needs a break, we get plowed. Things look better this year? Sounds like they are improving, but I’d be very interested to know where we’re particularly vulnerable.

  6. nipplehead Says:

I’m happy Kent State won and I’m happy we play them. We gotta play someone halfway decent before we take on louisville..I mean If we lose to Kent then we will not win game #3

  7. fuzzy zeller Says:

Matt, it won’t take 50 at all to beat Louisville. O-line replacements looked average at best and their D-line didn’t look good at all. It’s only the first game but they have some serious question marks.

  8. krazykat Says:

Matt I will take 50 if you please fix me up with someone. Pretty please. I heard you helped bcgobsession.

  9. Anonymous Says:

Fifty points to beat Louisville? What? They played MURRAY STATE!!!

  10. Shagari'sBigHead Says:

If you’re gonna post crap under “KrazyKat’s” name, dont’ forget to capitalize the K’s douchebag.

  11. Clinton's Memoirs Says:

Speaking of the ol’ pigskin. In 1999 during my second term I invited my pal Bill Keightly to the White House to watch the Razorbacks v. Wildcats at Commonwealth Stadium at the War Room overlooking the Rose Garden. Thanks to fledgling HDTV, NORAD could not lock us onto a signal. So to break the bordem, I wagered to him that not only would my Hogs win outright, I’d take the over against vast collection of UK memorabilia. Well, 20 minutes into a Louisville based ’snuff film’ that he popped into the VCR, and 3 glasses into a second 1/2 gallon of Makers Mark he went double-or-nothing: 2 nights with Hillary or I have to shave UK into my head before the State of the Union Address. Sucker! The broadcast was descrambled and encrypted long enough for us to witness some kid named Dusty throw a game clinching touchdown against my Hogs. Maybe it was the Makers, or the cloud of KILL we just smoked(but for the record did not inhale), but like Osama in the night, Bill was nowhere to be found. Urban Legend has it that in the West Wing, that ol’ bastard went where ‘no man’ has gone before. Surveillance picked up moans that were inhuman and rhythmic clapping sounds. As the years go by, I often gaze upon his UK team photos. With the light just right, you can still catch a hair or three lodged between his yellowy chizzled teeth. My God he’s a WILDCAT!

I know good dogs from bad ones. MissSt’s Henig needs put into a bag and beaten, then thrown into the river.

  13. CatFanatic Says:

  14. sortleader2 Says:

Did Brohm do anything to get out of the blocks as a Heisman leading candidate?

  15. Anonymous Says:

    LOL

  16. fuzzy zeller Says:

    26) He played well, but I can’t imagine playing really well against a 1AA team that went 1-10 the previous year will help him much.

  17. sortleader2 Says:

Give me the 4-1-1 Doc. What happened?

  18. Sidekick Says:

can we get some clips of Kige on the radio?

  19. sortleader2 Says:

I fear the same may be said for Woodson this weekend fuzzy.

  20. Clinton's Memoirs Says:

Oops! Say no to drugs boys and girls.

    Bubba

  21. fuzzy zeller Says:

    32) I seriously doubt he’ll spend much if any time behind bars. He will be suspended sooner or later for the incident if he’s guilty. We suspend players when they get in trouble. You must have confused us with Louisville or Tennessee.

  22. sortleader2 Says:

    39-…or WVU.

  23. fuzzy zeller Says:

In reference to my last post(39), it was great to see Jajuan Spillman on the field tonight for the Cards. I was hoping he wouldn’t be overly punished for getting pulled over, admitting to being under the influence of marijuana and admitting to the weed in the car being his. Glad to see the new coaching staff at Da Ville is keeping in line with the last when it comes to class(See J.R. Russell).

  24. fuzzy zeller Says:

    41) That’s correct, I was just naming the one’s I hate the most. I’m not a big fan of Jim Tressel and Ohio State either.

  25. vanhoomi Says:

LSU was only favored by 18.5 so i took the spread on LSU. That may have been the easiest $100 bucks i ever made

  26. sortleader2 Says:

‘The Sweater’ be damned my friend.

  27. Matt Jones Jr. Says:

Why does everyone get so pissed if someone says “first”? Lighten up fellas.

  28. eight track mind Says:

I don’t like the “approaching 50″ crap….Since I hit 40 myself last week. Didn’t we hold UT to 17 and Clemson to 20? Our D should be much better this year and especially after two games work.

  29. bcgobsession Says:

From what I’ve read, UK’s depth in 2nd string should be much more effective than in previous years. Woodson has many options to throw to. I still think we’ll have problems protecting him though– he’ll need to pass quickly in order for us to win games. Wonder if the Cards will maintain the quickness when they’re playing a real team (sorry Murray St)? I didn’t see the game, could they just have looked fast in comparison to Murray?

KrazyKat (the moniker thief??)~ WTF? Matt doesn’t need to fix me up & if I wanted to be fixed up, I wouldn’t be asking Matt. I might understand you bringing up my name, had I actually posted quite a bit on here in the past couple of days, but I haven’t. What’s up with your OBSESSION OF ME??? That “krazy” part might actually fit.
Catfanatic~ you seem to be concerned with me of late, as well. No, that is not me posting as some other blogger. I like to take credit for what I post. And I sure as hell wouldn’t choose a moniker with the word Clinton in it.

  30. Prestoncatfan Says:

So who says I live in Kentucky? From Kentucky yes.. oh and I’m 33…so I think i’m fairly grown up…real grown!

  31. AK Says:

Easy money last night on the LSU line. Great start to the season (gambling, that is). If I’ve learned one thing in the past 10 years of doing this, it’s that you need to jump on the early action in football, before certain teams have had time to figure it out on the field. This game was ripe in so many areas …

  32. Macy Baker Says:

Hey Fuzzy, your Cayuts have a nice little streak going: Morris, Estill, and Johnson in consecutive weeks. With Gillispie’s history, I’m sure he’ll join that list eventually.

  33. Beezner Says:

It’s good to see Kragthorpe is just as scummy as his predecessors. That turd left Brohm in the game when it was well out of hand and kept airing it out when he was in the game. I hope they end up with a few injuries from their bush league antics.

  34. Erwin Fletcher Says:

Okay…. regarding the Steve Johnson thing:

I’m guessing the reason he’s not being suspended is that the whole arrest is contrived to say the least. First of all, his offenses as I understand them (unpaid fines & not posessing his license while driving) are not arrestable offenses (outside of a bench warrant - which wasn’t mentioned). So, if that’s the case, how does one get arrested “for resisting arrest”??

Sounds like another case of the over eager Lexington Police.

  35. 1ukfan Says:

52 - From what I read Brohm played on down in the second half…. He is in the running for some big accolades this year. Why should he have pulled him out earlier. Fact is, I do not know what you can draw from last nights victory. Kind of like Trinity or St. X playing Beth Haven! I still say UK has a shot on the 15th.

  36. 1ukfan Says:

    on = one (darn keyboard)

  37. Beatle Bum Says:

Mabry out with broken thumb really hurts the depth at LBer. A position that looked deep in the spring, now not so much. Thurmond would have been a young stud learning the ropes behind Woodyard. Now, a converted safety (although I have to believe that was the plan all along) and Nance back up Woodyard. With Kelley potentially still gimpy from the high ankle sprain, Micah may have to play more snaps. Perhaps one of the other LBers can back him up if Kelley is not fully recovered.

Seems the injury bug has been more noticeable this year, going back to spring.

  38. Beezner Says:

35, Ray Rice is in the running for big accolades. So is Ian Johnson. The only difference is that after they put up huge stats ina quarter and a half of a blowout, their coach pulled them out. The same thing will probably happen Saturday with Texas, USC and West Virginia. I’m sure if UK goes up big on Eastern you will see Hartline take some snaps. UL continues to show no class.

  39. Robby Says:

    What’s the line for UK/EKU?

  40. Gotttt AKA Lee C Says:

First RE: UofL and MSU. MSU is awful and i mean AWFUL> I saw them play last year against Mizzou and Mizzou pulled the dogs off WAY earlier and ran the ball the last three quarters. Also, UofL players weren’t “running past” anybody> MSU simply wasn’t covering them to begin with.

RE: Steve Johnson. Talked to somebody in the know yesterday. Rob Knows who it is, but it isn’t who you think Rob. StevieSteview was TOTALLY entrapped. He was pulled over for his seat belt, didn’t have ticket paid and then the ass hole cop tried to search the car. Johnson told him to get a warrant and then the cop got smart and roughed up stevie. That’s why brooks is pissed. As a white guy I was harrased by cops in Lexington several times. I Was charged with “improper display of tags” and they tried to search my car when I forgot to put my renewal sticker on my car. I had it in my glove box but that didn’t matter. I also asked them to get a warrant and they threatened to arrest me. My lawyer told me it wasn’t worth pursuing and I still agree. THe lexington cops are pussies. They are scared to go north of Main street so they harrass UK students constantly instead of going where the crime is. I can’t imagine the harrassment that black kids get let alone a scrwany honkey like me.

  41. Murray St. Says:

    UL = douchebags

  42. Gotttt AKA Lee C Says:

#42- Haven’t heard anything of that nature. I do know that the young ladies seem to like him though.

  43. DEEETROIT BASKETBALLL!!! Says:

Brooks is fairly tough on his players. If Johnson needed to be suspended Brooks wouldnt hesitate no matter who the player is.

  44. CatsRus Says:

    44) You are an idiot!

  45. jarhead4uk Says:

Hey everyone, come check out the CatsZone blog over at 1570thezone.com. I just put up the Friday Morning UK football notebook and you can also check out other features such as an in-depth EKU preview, pick’ems and more! Just click on my name for a link. Thanks!

  46. Anonymous Says:

44 (aka assbag) let me get this straight for you. a simple question doesnt require a smartass remark. i agree with everything you said. id like to have been there with him drinking it down. more power to him.

  47. eight track mind Says:

    44. Nice work….If I had a million $, I bet I could hook that up.

  48. high tit Says:

48, That’s it? If you had a million dollars, you’d do two chicks at the same time?

  49. fuzzy zeller Says:

If I had a million dollars I’d do 5 chicks at the same time. I do 2 all the time without it.

  50. sortleader2 Says:

47-Why are you so sensitive, and consistently misinformed?

  51. GMo Says:

Hit Brohm in the mouth often=W. He has a vagina and loves to throw off his back foot. If the
Cats don’t blitz and blitz often, it’ll be a long day of him picking us apart.
Cats better come to play next Saturday. Those people saying Cats by 30 are crazy. This team isn’t bad.
Central Mich won the MAC last year, and they weren’t quite a pushover.

  52. GMo Says:

41 is my new best friend.

  53. GMo Says:
