[Moderated by Matt Jones]

When a team uses the 1967 Grantland Rice Bowl as one of the selling points for its program entering its hundredth year, I’m sorry but the intimidation level is almost too much for me to bear. Luckily, Richmond’s version of James Earl Jones was there to do the voiceover, his calming and melodic tones comforting me every step of the way. My fears have been squashed, Mr. Earl Jones. Those big scary Colonels won’t get me now.
Go Cats.

This. Is. Kentucky Football. Having a lousy history and having recently won bowl games no one cares about… KENTUCKY FOOTBALL.
See the way we look at EKU? That’s similar to the way the rest of the SEC (except Vandy and MSU) look at UK.
Good to be on the other side for once, isn’t it?

3 - at least it isn’t Fake Gimel. He hurts me with his silliness. What a goose.

You do realize that UK and Eastern are in different divisions, and that UK gets 85 scholarships while EKU gets 53, right?
And that Eastern is historically one of the best programs in Division I-AA, right? …Right?
Please tell me this post wasn’t serious

I see the sarcasm component to the post, but when we are Kentucky Football going against ANYONE, we can’t really accuse the other team of having an accomplished history. EKU, a 5 said, is a formidable program, much better than UK’s, and is respected as such.
Kentucky is a bottom feeder in the conference and will likely stay that way. I’m a fan, but that’s just reality.
Let’s try and stay humble and realistic, or else we’ll be laughed at more so than we are now. And that’s tough.

* (NOT having an accomplished history…)

5) I was thinking the same thing…. I went to Eastern and back then their football program was tops in the Nation… they also won the Division I-AA championship before.. so not sure why the program only mentions that Garland Bowl…. I didn’t listen to it ….but that’s what the post said was its only accomplishment…. I sure would not just sneeze at Eastern… and pass them by….

2….are you sure that MSU and Vandy look at us that way? Haven’t they beat us the past couple of years?

9 - very possible.

Let’s not forget that the Cols almost beat IU in Bloomington earlier this year… Not saying the same thing will happen to us, but I’ll just be happy with a win over a solid I-AA team in EKU.

I love the Cats and played for the Colonels and Coach Kidd. The Colonels are a great program in their division, but the different divisions is what makes it so easy to cheer for both teams. The Cats should and will win, but EKU will get a nice check and will play hard.

No need to disparage a solid program like EKU. They may not be SEC, but they’ve done quite well in the division they are in. Given their scholly totals, budget and 1-AA competition level…they’ve won a couple of national championships in recent memory. Don’t think the Cats have come anywhere close to that. Their former coach Kidd was as fine a man as one could meet. Like #12, I love the Cats and the Colonels. It’s easy to cheer for both. Learn when to be critical Hunter. If not, watch how Drew can humorously poke fun yet still show respect

I remember EKU when they had their run of four straight I-AA championship games, the last coming during UK’s 0-10-1 season. The sons of bitches had the gall, and I swear this is true, to advertise their football program from those planes that fly over Commonwealth. The message read, “Come see real football. Eastern Kentucky Colonels 1981 NCAA Champs”
Hope we beat them by 80
