We have said it numerous times on this site that Evan Daniels is the best recuriting analyst in the country. Rumbaugh is the best for UK, but for a wide range view of recruiting, its Evan. And I can tell you I have known Evan personally for 6 years now. Once he began doing his recruiting work, he lessened his passion as a fan of particular teams, so as to be more objective. But I can tell you (and he may hate for this), Evan preferred UL in college. So, it was especially significant when Evan went on a UL message board yesterday and said this, in response to UL fans feeling Peyton Siva is better than John Wall:
EVAN DANIELS: No offense…this post title is ridiculous.
Straightforward, to the point, and as credible as they come. For Evan to call the comparison “ridiculous” really means something. I think we can starting calling Evan the anti-Tipton. And I think we should welcome Evan into the UK fanbase. Wildcat for life, Evan. (By the way, if I do not post next week, it is likely because Evan has murdered me, so please report that to police. Thank you)

More on casinos: The Horseshoe Casino in Southern Indiana costs the state of Kentucky TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS a year in lost revenue alone. I have been to that casino AT LEAST 50 times. I bet you Matt has also been to that casino at least 50 times. I have NEVER seen one single prostitute and I have NEVER been approached to buy drugs, and I have NEVER seen anybody assaulted around the casino, and I have found ZERO articles that say that casino has brought anything but money into that area. I feel that sometimes this idea about crime rising is just people’s opinion from watching movies, like “Casino”. In New Albany/Jeffersonville, where the Horseshoe is located, there have been a total of TWO murders in the last 4 years, neither of which had any relation to casino activities. If you have a moral problem with casinos, then I can respect that. But, do not bring myth’s to the table, such as crime and prostitution will increase.
I think Urban Meyer is the BEST coach in the country. He can recruit, he runs an exciting system, players seem to love him, and he is a fantastic game-planner. If UK could by some miracle have him, I would take him in a minute. But, this entire Brandon Spikes fiasco is sickening. First, Meyer gave the WEAKEST suspension imaginable to Spikes after he tried to blind a Georgia player. I thought a 3-4 game suspension is in order, but AT LEAST 2 games was obvious. Instead, Spikes got a HALF against Vandy. Now, the story has come out that Spikes “asked” to be suspended for the entire game, because what he did “weighed on his heart”. GIVE ME A BREAK. Anybody that is willing to stab your finger’s in another man’s eyes has very little heart. What really happened is the outcry from what Spikes did looked bad on Meyer, so he upped the suspension. My sugegstion is people continue to call this crap, and maybe Meyer will up the suspension again. Although, there is that whole national title to play for.
SEC officials have screwed up again.
Looks like Isiah Thomas really has Florida International rolling already, losing their exhibition opener against NAIA Northwood. Dominique Ferguson, have fun with that.
Allen Iverson is already bitching about playing time in Memphis. To be honest, I am suprised that there is that much talent in Memphis that Iverson only sees the floor for 22 minutes, until you realize that Iverson is a washed up bum on his 4th team in 5 seasons. And he’s never been the best teammate in the world either.

Siva > Wall……HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!
November 6th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Tsk tsk. I don’t think Meyer is the type of personality that will allow any outcry from the public dictate his actions. That dude is way too narcissistic. Me thinks you are too cynical sometimes BTI. Give the young man some love. Whatever his intentions were, he took the initiative and did the right thing. It is sad when a teenager has more of a sense of right and wrong than his coach.
Everything else….great post once again.

I, for one, am greatly disappointed in the lack of prostitutes at Belterra (at least for the common man).
Seriously, I know several people who have gambled their lives away since these casinos opened. People leading comfortable lives. Homes, businesses, families lost. I know, they were stupid, but their stupidity affects more than them individually. Sad to see.

Great article on Chuck Hayes and how much everyone loves him on the Rockets. I’ve always been a huge fan of the chuck wagon and now it seems everyone sees it too.

Is this KPR? Kentucky Politics Radio?
I have lived in Louisville most of my life and have never seen a murder. So, stop with the myths about murders in the city. I do not know about crime stats, but anecdotes about 50 trips is not very statistically significant. That is the sort of info that myths are based upon.
Gambling ruins a percentage of lives and families. There are stats to support that. Why do we have to sacrifice any citizen to gain revenue for the state. That makes no sense to me.

why does the name, Dominique Ferguson sound so familiar?

8 >Gee, I’ve never seen a murder either. There must not be any murders in Paducah, Champaign IL, Lexington, Baltimore, MD, oh yeah, and Louisville for the first two years of my life.
There are a lot of murders in the movies and on tv though - I know cause I’ve seen ‘em!!

First and foremost I’d like to congratulate Florida International Tech State School for the Blind. Good job there Isiah.
Second, Mayo deserves it, but I’m not so sure Conley should be seeing more minutes than AI. Conley is averaging 2 more assists, but AI’s got 6 more ppg in less minutes. AI is a selfish player, but his numbers back up his skills. If he gets the PT, I’m not sure AI wouldn’t be dropping 20 ppg with 7 or so assists per game. “It’s practice, man…It’s not the real game, it’s practice man.”

#8 - You chide BTI for using anecdotal data, but then say that “a percentage” of lives and families are ruined by gambling? Wow. That is a hard hitting fact. And where are the “stats to support that”. If you could come up with a number for your “percentage” of families that have been ruined by gambling, we can talk, but that data seems pretty impossible to quantify.
By your logic, we shouldn’t allow any sort of activity that has the potential to ruin a family. Let’s outlaw driving, flying, drinking, fatty foods, guns, ice skating, rock climbing, and anything else that has ruined “a percentage of lives and families”.
You can believe what you want, but don’t call someone out for not using statistics if you don’t have any of your own.

8. This coming from someone who lived in a state that makes money off of horse racing, tobacco and alcohol. You move based on moral grounds?
November 6th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Also #8, for some more anecdotal evidence, I bet that there are FAR more people who experience financial hardship due to credit cards and other forms of personal debt than gambling. Should we ban credit as well?

I love the casino, but I have definitely seen a couple prosty’s there, rubbing up on the lucky winners roundabouts 4 in the morning after I walk around post-poker-session. Get off your high horses and live a little

To be fair, the Siva > Wall poster was just making the point that Siva is a very good player and will be better for UL’s program than Wall is for UK because he’ll be around for a few years. He was not saying Siva was a better overall player. Not saying I agree w/ him, because the Cats do have a shot to win a NC this year, and SIVA may never win it all - but IMO it is not a ridiculous point.
Casino’s can be a lot of fun, but they do prey on people w/ addictive personalities to print money. Not a very honorable pursuit if you ask me.

6,7- excellent article on Chuck! very nice read.

Gambling will make you sterile. Ban it I say.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Here’s the problem with the state allowing gambling. The Big Gambling industry will have a cash flow in the state what will dwarf the state budget by many times, and the tax dollars Kentucky will get from them will be the single largest single source of state income. Thus, the state will have to bow to anything the Gambling industry wants in order to keep the money flowing. Lefties who fear Corporatist fascism should be scared to death of this, because this is the most extreme example that could ever exist.

Damn you BTI. I live in New Albany and purposely did not comment on our lack of increased crime after the casino was built. The only major regret was that it was built in Harrison Co. instead of Floyd. They have received a much greater amount of the increased tax revenue, and have made vast improvements in their infrastructure. Although I love horse racing and know that it’s very survival may hinge on casino gambling at the tracks, I prefer to have the revenue generated from valued guests from KY.
