How About A Round of Applause for Will Fidler, Everybody?

The Henderson Gleaner’s Kevin Patton writes a great article focused on Henderson native and Kentucky Junior QB Will Fidler. Fidler found himself not used (as part of Ghidorah) in UK’s loss to MSU:

Fidler, who said he was expecting to take some snaps in the first half, was obviously disappointed to not get on the field. “I want to do whatever they need me to do to help us win,” he said.

Fidler finds himself in an awkward position. He is rooting for Newton to play well not only for the good of the team but for the good of Newton himself. But it seems now the only way Fidler will get the chance to play is if Newton doesn’t play well.

Given the circumstances, Fidler has performed fairly well during his time under center. Fidler was limited to 2-for-8 for 16 yards when he took over for injured starter Mike Hartline against South Carolina. Against ULM, Fidler was 8-of-13 for 82 yards and a TD. Against Auburn, Fidler was 4-of-9 for 36 yards and found senior Tight End T.C. Drake for 7 yards (and a 4th down conversion) late in the 4th quarter.

As Matt previously reported, Will is well-regarded in the locker room. The team is probably thrilled that he was able to contribute to the team. Unfortunately for Fidler, its clear that Morgan Newton will continue to get snaps for the rest of this year. Newton clearly has better scrambling & open-field skills that can help Kentucky win games now. Once Hartline has recovered from his injury (and barring any additional injuries to Cobb/Hartline/Newton), Will’s playing time will most definitely be gone for the rest of the season.

Will might see a few series against EKU this Saturday. If he does, I hope we Wildcat fans can vocalize our appreciation for the Kentucky native filling his role to the best of his ability.

    I love Will Fidler.

I still say he should’ve gotten some snaps in the 4th quarter. The playbook for Newton is watered down, Fidler knows the playbook.

AND YOU FAIL TO MENTION THAT HE ALSO HIT T.E. DRAKE FOR A TD IN THE USC GAME, BUT IT WAS DROPPED. WE WOULD’VE WON THAT GAME.

Did anybody else see this tidbit in Pat Forde’s weekly chat?

Any chance Kentucky makes it to a 4th straight bowl game? Any thoughts on the exhibition (hoops) game last night?

    Pat Forde (2:45 PM)
Travis: I think Kentucky finishes 6-6, which should mean a bid to something. I didn’t get to see the hoops exhibition because I was at my kids’ swim practice, but from all reports the Cats were pretty awesome, even without John Wall.
