This was the status update for Daniel Orton on Facebook today as he gets ready for his first game as a Cat. A somber reminder of what the kid has been through and what is ahead.
First game tonight……yea im nervous but ready. A lots going through my head right now. Going over the plays, my post moves, and what coach has been talking about. Main thing i cant stop thinkin about my mom. I know my mother wanted to see this day its somethin im been thinkin bout all day. I know i’ll be playing for her tonight…

Daniel Orton sounds like a great person. I can’t imagine the things going through his mind at a time like this. Hopefully his dad will be able to be in attendance for support. Here’s to the Big Blue Nation being behind you DO.

Best of Luck Orton, you will have a great career and future. The way you have handled yourself
and your work ethic this summer and fall would make your mother very proud.

Yep, we’re with the kid. Through thick and thin.

Playing with a heavy heart… good luck tonight and the rest of your career, Daniel. We’re proud to have ya.

I think Daniel is going to be a very special player in Lexington. Cousins is a little more obvious in his skill set, but I think Orton’s game will have a little more range to it. And he seems to be a smart young man who will make the heads-up play as well.

I really do expect Daniel to wrench away Cousin’s starting spot at some point, but that’s neither here nor there. Great kid, good head on his shoulders, and all the best to him for his 1-4 years, however many, he’s here. Proud to have him in the blue and white.

I think we just found our team leader when PPat leaves. Good luck tonight Daniel and you and your family are in our prayers.

The big guy will be hard to handle on the block, don’t care who is guarding him. Yep, Orton is a Beast.

Hard to imagine a such a young man going through the loss of his mother. He seems like a fantastic kid, I look forward to watching his success and am proud to have him wearing the blue & white. Classy kid.

Not lucky enough to have tickets to the game but a STANDING OVATION for this kid would be well deserved when he enters the game IMHO.

The dude is solid. Props to Billy G for doing a few good things.

It’s amazing how much Orton is getting overlooked by both the press and a lot of our fans. That’ll change soon. This guy has an NBA body already. I have no doubts he’ll be a star. And a humble one…which makes him twice as good.

I am sure she will have the best seats in the house, Daniel. Proud to have you as a Wildcat.

Mothers are irreplaceable. That being said, all of big blue nation has your back Daniel. Glad we have a guy like you on our team. I agree with the guy who said that he was next in line for top leader after Pat leaves. Looking forward to what the future brings for this team. Seems to be the best chemistry we’ve had on a team in years.

Is the game online, perchance?

From what I have seen so far, Orton’s game is right there with Cousins, and he has NBA potential.

God bless Daniel this season. His dad Larry too. I know it has to be terribly bitter sweet.
November 2nd, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Sent him a message on that post. His mother will be so proud of him tonight. You know she’ll be watching.

I know this is really weighing heavy on Daniel’s mind tonight! I spoke to his father at BBM and the B/W game and Mr Orton and you could see he was thinking about it also and told my dughter he wished his wife was there to see Daniel. I told him she was there in his heart and watching from the est seat in RUPP!!! Daniel doesn’t talk to much about the loss of his mother, but I got to know him very well, along with his father and they are both keeping it all building up inside! She is with ya Daniel, in your heart and watching ya everyday!!
DO HER PROUD! I KNOW YOU WILL!!!
November 2nd, 2009 at 7:31 pm
MR. Orton and Daniels grandmother are there watching the game! His mothers mom!!!

Orton is a beast nice catch and finish on the alley opp tonight i like it and doing a really good job rebounding in the first half
November 2nd, 2009 at 10:21 pm
I felt like a jerk when they mentioned Orton’s Facebook tonight during the game because I had forgot about his mother passing away. It is times like this, when I can hear my old high school coach telling us after big losses that basketball is a small part of life. This has nothing to do for the sympathy I have for him but I think Orton will be one of my all time favorites when it is all said and done.

Thanks Beisner. Your blog was completely tasteless…this was an exhibition game. You didn’t even talk about UK. Are you really going to spend your time looking up the same information on Clarion for Friday night’s game? Save us all and skip it.
