I spent the evening tonight in Danville, watching the country/bluegrass/Motown sounds of Lyle Lovett perform at “Norton College” (which is what he mistakenly called it). The concert was great and I had a wonderful time, but while I was gone, the Big Blue Nation got some much needed good news. A quick review of the night….
— First, we find out that the reason for the Louisville practice being cancelled was the media. Well sort of. UK sent out a quote from Calipari that said that UK was wanting to have an open practice, but when the media reports came out that it was happening, they couldnt because it might have violated an NCAA rule against publication. I have my own theories (and source) as to how this all took place (and will probably let them go in a live blog sometime), and they involve our good friends in Red down the road, but regardless the result is the same…no practice. Its a shame, because it was a great idea and would have been a good event.
— Then came the big news that The “Free John Wall” movement has been successful, as the NCAA has cleared Wall to hit the court for UK. He will have to sit out on exhibition game (lucky Campbellsville) and one regular season game (lucky Morehead), pay back $787 bucks to a charity (lucky Hope Center) and then he can return to the court for the Cats (lucky UK fans). It was a good resolution to an issue that was played up by ESPN on a national story, even though all associated with it were certain it would end up a minor story. It is celebration time however, as Wall is the Truth.
— And now here we are to today, and the biggest football game of the season. Mississippi State is the difference between a decent and a very good season. The weather will be bad (just as it was in 2007 when we lost) and the stakes are high. The Cats win and a top bowl game is still in reach…lose and Shreveport and Birmingham may be fighting for UK’s attendance. It is really that simple. For MSU to have any chance for a Bowl, they have to win this game…lose and there is no hope. Thus its all on the line today and I expect a battle.
Our coverage of the game begins with a LIVE BLOG at 6:30 pm. Join us all day and smile….we got good Wall news, a big football game and the best girl-watching holiday of the year….you cant beat it!

The UL conspiracy theory didn’t make sense or have any legs. I figured it was due to a possible violation all along. Congrats to John Wall. Its still more of a penalty than he deserves, but all in all, its good to have things resolved.
