Sounds Like Payne to Michigan State Right Now

by @ 1:15 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

I’ve heard from a very good source that Adreian Payne will be announcing his commitment to Michigan State tonight. It seems that anyone willing to give this info also gives it with a grain of salt and mentions the off chance that Payne changes his mind just before announcing. In that case, everyone I talk to says it is at least down to West Virginia and Michigan State and that Kentucky will not be chosen. The source that I just spoke to is very close to this situation, so for now it sounds like Payne will be a Spartan

To know 100% for sure where he is going to go, be sure to tune into ESPNU’s Recruiting Insider tonight at 5:30est.

That blows!! Thanks for the heads up though Dustin.

  2. reedwizard Says:

First! Why would I want to watch ESPNU? Unless he signs a LOI, it’s not 100%

  3. gossie21 Says:

I don’t mind losing Payne, but it would be nice to get a commitment soon with all of the recruiting losses we have had. Ultimately I’m not concerned about recruiting with Calipari here. I guess I’m just impatient.

  4. HendoUKFan Says:

Wow … talking about coming out of left field. Oh well … hope that maybe this means we are in good w/ Jones

  5. MGH Says:

And .. there goes another one. I’m like #3 though. I’m not “worried” per say, even though it is troubling that you hear every other day how the top PGs from the 2010 class are in slightly better with other schools more than UK, but I’m just impatient. It would be nice to see a couple more names flowing in.

  6. veeper Says:

Don’t worry Cal is working with the NCAA to get Labron qualified by next year.

  7. Bone Flexor Says:

Well said #3… I really liked Payne and thought he would be a good pick up. However, with Calipari and the potential for a lot of openings next year I think it will all work out.

  8. HanOfTheBluegrass Says:

Hasn’t been much good news for UK since Poole committed. Between the ongoing crap being thrown at John Wall and the few other big name commitments being to other teams, it’d be nice to get some more good news.

Of course, I think a lot of us will worry a lot less once the preseason games start and we begin to focus more on the current team. Seeing Cal’s team play may also spur some recruits to make their decision, too. We still have 5 schollies open for next year, probably, though Cal may not fill them all (One to Poole; Patterson and Wall gone, 3 seniors, and then probably Cousins, if not Orton, Bledsoe or Dodson after an amazing year.)

    4) The only reason people are thinking it’s coming out of left field is because everyone assumed that a) the WVU madness stuff – signs, etc – was somehow indicative that he was theirs to lose, and b) cancelling other visits after the WVU madness meant he had seen what he wanted to see there and would commit to them.

  9. Laker Cat 18 Says:

I personally think this is a big miss if he chooses another school. Knight & Payne have been my top to wants this entire recruiting process. Payne looked VERY impressive in the AAU games I’ve seen him play on the tube.

  10. HanOfTheBluegrass Says:

    3) Let’s not forget we already have one commitment. People tend to forget about the kids who commit early, which is part of the reason so many of the elite stars drag it out til the end.

  11. ReverendBlue Says:

Why would anyone CHOOSE to live in Michigan for 4 years?

  12. Laker Cat 18 Says:

    to = 2, oops

  13. Miller's High Life Says:

If we miss out on Payne it may suck for all of 10 minutes. Terrance Jones and/or Tobias Harris are the two we want. Add Knight or Selby and Doron Lamb to those names and that makes for one heck of a class.

  14. benherewaiting Says:

I feel that the PG position is not going to be an easy pick-up.. Was at the blue white game last nite and if Bledsoe stays, all the recruits know that they are going to play behind him.

  15. Miller's High Life Says:

Terrance Jones in the DDM > Payne

  16. ReverendBlue Says:

Why would anyone CHOOSE to live in Michigan for 4 years? Didn’t we give Michigan to Canada?

  17. asdfasdf Says:

15 has it right, Payne wont contribute right away

  18. Miller's High Life Says:

Also I don’t know how a forgot. But C.J. Leslie is an athletic big man as well who I’ve heard can jump out of the gym.

  19. gossie21 Says:

    16. Yeah, but then they gave it back. I still think we got the better end of the deal because we swapped it for Quebec. I think the Canadians are still a little sore about that trade.

  20. ReverendBlue Says:

If we get Stacy Poole, Brandon Knight, and CJ Leslie along with another 4 or 5 star player, we’re not going to be hurting. Sometimes these people go other places because they know they’re not our plan A.

Figure the players mentioned above thrown in with Bledsoe, Dodson, Orton, Hood, Harrelson, Miller, and the gang and that’s not too shabby.

  21. 3 fan Says:

I think Jones is a real reach with him being from the West Coast and UK being the ONLY school east of what, Kansas, that he is looking at.

Is it time to turn the heat up on Selby?

  22. ClevelandCat Says:

    Dustin,
Any word on if UK is in good with any JUCO and or prep school recruits? Seems like Cal has gone that route a good amount in the past (ie Coleman and Dodson at Memphis this year) and a few years ago when half his team went to Laurinburg Institute.

  23. WelcomeToTheCaliparti Says:

    18. I agree, when we get C.J. (and Jones) along with poole it’s plenty solid of a class since we will still have Bledsoe. Not to mention we could still land Knight, Selby or Lamb and then its another amazing class from Cal.

  24. Jonah Hex Says:

Swing and another miss. Oh well, I agree with #3- dont like being also ran in the recruiting race. Need to have a couple of great classes before i can relax on this front. Even Tubby had a great class now and then.

  25. JMBlue Says:

I sure hope some of our “fans” don’t Spam Payne’s Facebook page with insults (if he has one). That bugs me big time.

  26. Old Henry Man Says:

    Any word on Harris?

  27. Jonah Hex Says:

I agree 25, stupid and makes us look awful.

  28. BigCatDaddy4263 Says:

This will get better…. CJ Leslie, Brandon Knight, Lamb and Poole is not to shabby of a class…

I just think that Harris goes to Louisville because of his dad’s relationship with Pitino…

  29. HanOfTheBluegrass Says:

    14) It may be hard to get the best of the best to come play behind him, but if he does well this year “behind” Wall, it should be a little easier. Cal’s offense could work with 3 PGs playing significant minutes on the floor together. Cal will take a lot of Wings and Guards moving forward. We won’t have another team with this many “big” men (5 – Patterson, Cousins, Orton, Harrelson, Stevenson)

  30. Jnet389 Says:

    14) 2 PG’s on the court at the same time
