While it’s not clear if he’s just living up to his old-school reputation or if he’s making a subtle protest against coal, it is apparent that Rich Brooks will not be letting his team take the field in black uniforms against Mississippi State on Saturday, according to some fine video from our buddy Tom Leach. The now infamous “Black Out” game is set for Halloween night against the Bulldogs and fans have been asked to dress themselves inUK’s alternate color? black, an outfit which seems to be more fitting of the last few games of the Billy Clyde Experiment. So, if you’re one of the people who proudly championed the black uniforms, try not to spill anything on your shirt today while mourning their quick and hasty death. You’ll need it in the stands on Saturday.
The possibility of black uniforms is survived by a few angry commenters and will now take its place alongside Michael Vick, soccer and other hot topics that BTI will use to infuriate you daily at 10 am.

So we should get a BTI reaction to this post around Friday morning, right?
October 27th, 2009 at 11:48 am
hmmm, black uniforms — another political hot topic!

Anyone know where I can find a UK video using nothing but pictures of wildcats? I NEED TO GET PUMPED UP!

black uni’s are only good paired with headbands…
October 27th, 2009 at 11:52 am
Good call Brooks! Our school colors are blue and white. I do not want to be like “the ville” and try to be thug gangstas. Stick with your school colors!
October 27th, 2009 at 11:59 am
as long as we wear the black basketball uniform a few times this year ill be happy
6)black uniforms hardly make us “thug gangstas” just something different
October 27th, 2009 at 11:59 am
It’s time to focus on Miss. St. and NOT what color jersey to wear! After all our colors are BLUE and WHITE!! GO CATS!!!

Wesley Snipes would be disappointed:
“always bet on black”

6.) Really Thug gangstas??? Black Unis = Thug gangstas? …. Your off your rocker
Black unis make it a neat experience for the players and fans, I liked the ones we wore for the Kightley game.
Besides, the players want to wear them for this game, I would think going into a must have game, anything you could do to get the players excited would be worth it….
October 27th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
So…we’re having a blackout with no black unis? Seems like this idea isn’t really getting the promotion or support it deserves.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
1. Congratulations?
October 27th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Just win. They can wear PINK if they win. Leave Papa Brooks alone and let him focus on getting the players inside the uniforms ready to play.
October 27th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
this blackout idea is absurd
October 27th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
I propose changing Saturday night to “Go Big Boo” night & everyone in attendance dress up for the occasion ….
October 27th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
A “blackout” without black uni’s seems pointless! The players want it, the fans want it, so WHY NOT? Plus its Halloween. IMO it seemed like a great idea!!! To bad we have so many damn “Old School” people around here………
October 27th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
If the school is going to have a “black-out” game then they should wear black uni’s. I know when I got my season tix I flipped through and saw “black out game” printed on the ticket and got excited. I think the idea of having a blackout game without black uni’s is half assing the event on UK’s part. Why would the university want their fans to wear black while the team wears OUR team colors. They should have put more thought into this if they wanted a successful promotion.
October 27th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
I still think we will wear black uni’s. Cobb just tweeted that he is wearing black cleats. Why would he wear black cleats with no black in his uni? hmmmm………
October 27th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
You guys are gullible. All Brooks is doing is making the players feel like there is zero chance of having black uni’s and then 10 minutes before kickoff he’s gonna whip out some black jerseys and mayhem will ensue.
October 27th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
20) I have been thinking the same thing! Brooks told reporters that this is something the marketing department would need a lot of time to get the uni’s in but if this has been printed on the season tickets then it HAS been planned for some time.
19) Brooks let the players wear black cleats when he first got here
October 27th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
hope your right 19 & 20. the energy for this game would be crazy if he lets them wear black at the last minute
October 27th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Black uniforms to memorialize a legend like Keightly is classy. Black uniforms to look “tough” and “cool” is silly, as evidenced by the fact that UofL does it. There is nothing better than walking out into the Commonwealth Stadium air and seeing all that BLUE.
October 27th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
23- but you aren’t going to see all that blue. the crowd is wearing black, so why not let the team? it only makes sense
October 27th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Just WIN the frickin game!!! GO CATS!!!
