Over the past week or so, the idea of bringing Drake (or “Drizzy” as he’s apparently called by some) to Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness was a hot topic as some people wondered if Lil Wayne’s Jewish-Canadian protege would connect with some of the Kentucky fan base. While his appearance ultimately seemed to be a bit underwhelming in terms of involvement (no performance and pictures with hundreds of young girls and my friend Phil seemed to be the highlight), there was no doubt that his appearance served exactly the purpose that it was supposed to: increase the mainstream appeal of the University of Kentucky.
Today, we receive the first proof that the male duck’s appearance hit the mark as UK’s Midnight Madness was featured on MTV.com for, what I would assume to be, the first time. In a summary of events, someone not named Kurt Loder said the UK crowd gave him “a massive ovation” and gave credit to Coach Cal for embracing a hip-hop star at the festivities. Also, and perhaps most importantly, the basketball team was actually mentioned as the writer equated John Wall to Drake for “looking like a superstar” during the Madness scrimmage.
Well played, Coach. Well played.

MTV is crap. Never show any videos, never do any mtv news…nothing but realities. They need to change their name to RTV. But either way, good to see UK is gettin exposure. But I still wish Drake would have performed. At least he was sportin UK gear.

WTF? No Kurt Loder?!?!
October 19th, 2009 at 11:23 am
Thats nothing. They were pimpin Ed Davender on Court TV to help get the UK brand out.

Tabitha Soren would have gotten to the truth of this report.

ok - does anyone have any pics of UK players knocking the snot outta Bama players? Not Auburn… Alabama. Anyone?

I still have no clue who this Drake guy is, but it isn’t important. I am not an 16-18 year old 5 Star prospect.

I want to see people in NY and LA wearing UK!! Go worldwide like the Yankee Cap!! If Lebron wears the UK gear its official…we are the standard of college basketball!!
October 19th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
So should Tayshaun been wearing UK gear Friday night or was it a good idea for him to wear Pistons gear as a subtle, “I’m in the NBA” reminder?
October 19th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
That is funny that Drake wore Kentucky and Tayshaun didn’t….I would think common sense would be that you wear UK to a UK event and wear Pistons gear to a Pistons event…they didn’t even win it all!!

7: Agree with you. If it helps the program, then great. If they were recruiting 50 year old white guys like me, then maybe bring in the Boss or Mick Jagger, but…
October 19th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
LBron should have been at madness.
October 19th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
What about Tabitha Soren?
October 19th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Louisville guys got 1 yr probation and 40 hrs community service. Pitino released this staement, ” what is this crap? On a day in which we celebrate the anniversary of our Victory of Yorktown?…baby killer, etc…”
October 19th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
I like that Tayshaun wore his NBA gear.
October 19th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
Aw whatever beez. You’d be just as happy as me if you got your pic with em. I think there might be a little jealousy in your tone.

Drake made an appearance, EVERY recruit saw him chatting up our players, and none of the blue hairs or CMT fans had to be offended by a rapper being our “featured guest”.
It was perfectly played by Cal.

Duke message boards were blowing up last night. They were saying that the sole reason Drake was at Big Blue madness is because he’s Kyrie Irving’s favorite rapper. Funny stuff.

Coach Cal tweeted this:

Does anybody know why they didn’t play the video shout-outs? Was it because UK Compliance shut that part of BBM down so to avoid any possible violations? Better safe than sorry I guess.
October 19th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
After BBM i got to meet Drake @ Drakes… kinda odd… he was lame, I expected him to walk in with a train of chicks. instead, it was just him and his body guard… and he left the same way.. I guess that lifestyle is completely made up…
October 19th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
23. Kinda lame? So if you’re famous, you’re supposed to be picking up groups of chicks every night? Not really, he was in Lex just to chill & have a good time prolly…not whoring himself out
October 19th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
I mean yeah, why not??? while I’m sure he could have had whatever girl he wanted, the way they promote themselves you’d think they at least live the life.. i also say kinda lame cause you could tell he was disappointed that he walked in and no one made a big deal about it..

Drake is a talentless hack. Thank God he did not perform (notice how
I did not say sing, since rapping is in no way, shape or form singing)
at BBM. I don’t care how popular he is….he sucks!!!
