It is actually quite late and I have been working on a lot of stuff for the site that will have to come out tomorrow. I will have a great deal tomorrow about the Billy Gillispie settlement, as conversations this evening have given me a very good understanding of how the process ended. In addition, as I sent out on Twitter earlier tonight, the “mystery guest” for the Big Blue Madness event seems to be Drake (at least if you believe the athetic department scuttlebutt) and we will talk more about that tomorrow as well.
However the one big story of the early part of the week continues to be the Quarterback situation for this Saturday’s game. I have spoken with multiple sources, all of whom say the same thing…the team believes that Morgan Newton will be the starter and are proceeding with that in mind. There has been some talk that Will Fidler was told that Newton would start and that the team was given the official word, but I cant confirm that beyond the speculation. However I do know that multiple sources on the team believe it will be Newton and that is the operating assumption.
While we have debated which player would be better to start, it is important to remember one other factor. The players on the team are very close to Fidler. Most of the players, especially the older guys, are friends with Will and there was a sentiment around the team that they were very excited that one of the more popular players on the team was going to “get his chance” to finally make it. If Newton ends up being the call, it will be interesting to watch how the game develops. Morgan will have to show leadership and convince his team that he has all the qualities that they hope to see in their young leader. In addition, the worry about Newton has been his ability to know the plays. More than one person has talked about how his system in high school allowed him to do his own thing and that the UK system has been a challenge. He will have to showcase that mastery of the system on Saturday to succeed and give the Cats a chance at a victory.
While the word isnt official that Newton is the guy, most everyone believes he will be. If that changes, it could give Fidler the chance to work without scrutiny…that would be good. But if it is Newton, the new era officially begins. And heres hoping Morgan is ready for that challenge.
More all day as we have a lot coming your way.

anyone had any luck finding a desktop of the new bball poster?
October 14th, 2009 at 1:11 am
4) nah sir
October 14th, 2009 at 1:24 am
couple things:
1) As a self-proclaimed hip-hop expert, lemme tell you how BIG it would be to have Drake here for midnight madness, especially as far as recruiting is concerned. There hasn’t been a rapper that has had as much of a buzz surrounding his release since The Game. He is big time, very big time, very very big time. So #1, up there, not sure why you are downplaying the situation. Yes he was on a 90210 type show in Canada (and believe me it was hard to accept at first, especially for me, who grew up in Toronto, where he is from), but unlike Brian Austin Green in 90210 here, Drake is the truth when it comes to his music. If he’s the guest, it’s huge and recruits will love it. Well worth pissing off or boring or alienating some fans (you know the ones who have the good seats, get mad when you stand up and cheer and block their view, and yes, donate millions to the program–sigh). It would be so big, I seriously doubt that is who it is. Only performer that would be bigger than Drake is Jay-Z (who has a line on his new CD Blueprint 3 that says “Drake is next…”). Either way I would be floored, and believe me, recruits will remember it. So keep your fingers crossed.
#4, is there a reason you’re not saving the image to your pics and setting it as your desktop? Is it because it’s not perfectly in focus because of the resolution? Kind of annoying but I couldnt resist and had to use it anyway. Lol. Please post if you find something better.
Is bball season really as close as it seems? Great googly moogly…..
October 14th, 2009 at 1:34 am
(6) don’t worry, i know who drake is. it would be tough to listen to the radio for more than 30 minutes without hearing “best i ever had”.
and while i agree that getting him here would be HUGE (his stuff would go over well with more than just rap enthusiasts), saying that only hova would be a bigger get is a bit of a stretch…
October 14th, 2009 at 1:40 am
(7) Haha, I’m sure you’re right about the radio. I don’t actually listen to the radio so I wouldn’t know. But I don’t doubt it. I’m just saying it from the perspective of someone that was listening to the Drake mixtape So Far Gone, which that song is on, a year or so ago, before it was re-released as an album.
I also agree with you that his stuff would go over with people besides rap enthusiasts. I just wanted to express that I am not concerned that it might alienate, for lack of a better phrase, some people in the crowd because of the impact it would have on recruits.
As for my statement regarding Jay-Z, I meant any other performer in hip-hop. For discussion’s sake, I would love to know who you think would be bigger.
October 14th, 2009 at 1:58 am
any other hiphop/r&b artist? (i add in r&b basically so that beyonce can be on this list)
ok, let’s break it down into two groups:
blue-bloods:
(1) jay z
(2) p diddy
(3) busta
“hot” (aka “relevant”):
(1) lil wayne
(2) beyonce
(3) JT
(4) kanye
(5) t.i.
(6) 50 cent
some of these would definitely be more “broad appeal” while others would be “hottest in rap” type of artists
obviously, some of those won’t be at madness for logistical reasons (and maybe jail terms), but if we’re saying “you get to pick ANY hip-hop/r&b artist to perform at Madness”, then that would be how I would break it down. simple solution would be just to have a replay of the VMA “swagga like us” performance, of course….

Enough with the Drake stuff. I have it on good authority, (TBK), that it’s Frosty Tips and the ’80’s cover band at MM. Frosty’s going to bust out your favorite 80’s tunes all nite long.

I just hope Kanye West doesn’t show up & grab the microphone from Calipari introducing Drake & say it shoulda been Beyonce or grab the microphone from Barnhardt while introducing Calipari saying it shoulda been Tubby getting rehired.

ERA - Newton will be the greatest uk qb of our generation. ERA
October 14th, 2009 at 7:27 am
I forgot to mention to everyone yesterday… HAPPY OCTOBER 13TH!!!!!!! (LSU GAME)
October 14th, 2009 at 7:39 am
Why hasn’t Newton been the backup all year? I don’t understand why they wanted to redshirt him to begin with. It seems like you would like to have a year of seperation between him and Moss.
October 14th, 2009 at 8:02 am
6 & 7– how f’ing fired up would people be
if the guest was jay-z doing “run this town”…?
Perfect setting for it… “we gon run this town tonight…”
October 14th, 2009 at 8:23 am
Never heard of Drake, but I don’t listen to that type of music…as long as the players/recruits like it, who cares..as long as it’s not country
October 14th, 2009 at 8:28 am
Locke and Smith will be the key to Newton having a successful first start. RUN THE BALL!!!!
October 14th, 2009 at 8:30 am
Hello all, I am very close to Will’s brother and was asking him about how Will is feeling about taking over the reigns. I was told that Monday told that Monday night, Fidler was called up from the film room at 7pm. Sanders sat him down in his office and said that they were going to giving Newton the start at Auburn. Folks, take it to the bank..THERE IS NO QB COMPETITION THIS WEEK… This is a really low class move from Brooks to use Fidler as his scapegoat come Friday when the old codger makes the announcement that Newton “beat out Will.”
October 14th, 2009 at 8:38 am
4 I just used the one posted on here and it works fine on my 17″ monitor.

October 14th, 2009 at 8:40 am
#21 that is
October 14th, 2009 at 8:40 am
18. you’re a genius. that would be unreal.
October 14th, 2009 at 8:41 am
21.) You watch your mouth, Rich Brooks is a lot of things but low class ain’t one of em!!!!!
I don’t care if Fiddler is the Dwight Perry of the team, his first pass to Matthews on Saturday looked like a d*mn punt, and his other 7 weren’t that good either. He through into quadruple coverage on the 2pt conversion, luckily the lineback broke up the pass on the blitz, or Cobb would have been coaching this week!!!! I don’t care if Newton throughs the ball like a water balloon, at least he can move a little bit, and that alone will open up the passing game!!!
October 14th, 2009 at 8:59 am
Fiddler would have NOBODY to blame but himself.
If Brooks is anything, he is stubbornly loyal to his upperclassmen.
It tells me a lot about Fiddler if Brooks would sign off on starting a true freshman over him.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:00 am
It good to see that things are back in order with U.K. Athletics. We are in the midst of a quarterback change, but all but 2 comments on this thread are about which hip hop artist will perform at Big Blue Madness,,,The Planets are realigned. Onto the QB situation. You know loyalty is a fine thing. Good dogs, a trusty 12 gauge, that bleach blonde ho that will meet you at 4:00 in the morning, at a minutes notice. All things that bring a tear to one’s eye. But when it comes to sports, you can only ride that horse so far. I think there is little doubt that Newton’s physical abilities dwarfs that of Fiddlin William, and apparently that has shown thru this week. Call ole PawPaw what you want, be if he has made anything clear since he has been here, he don’t operate with a agenda, and he don’t cave into fan pressure. I think the writing is just on the wall. Look for Newton to make a bunch of mistakes, but he is the one that gives us a chance to win.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:01 am
Hey 26, Your 4th grade education should have taught you that the correct spelling of the verb throw, is THROW, THREW, THROWN, THROWS
October 14th, 2009 at 9:02 am
25.) / 18.) I tried to post this yesterday, but nobody listened. The guest is going to be DRAKE, right now there is a small chance he performs, but if he does don’t look for it to be “Best I Ever Had” (due to lyrical content) and Don’t look for him to sing Every girl w/ Wayne popping out of a birthday cake. If he performs (which I have heard he may just be there to judge to dunk contest) then look for it to be A.) something he made just for Madness or B.) a watered down rendition of “Forever” without all of the other stars around…….
9 = worst list possible
Blue Bloods???
P. Diddy is not a rapper first of all, he is a rap mogul, who occasionally sings a pop song…
Busta …. you should be smacked for this one
T.I. is in prison, and 50 cent hasn’t released a hit in 2 years
Your hot list should read
Wayne
Jay
Kanye
Drake
Kid Cudi
October 14th, 2009 at 9:08 am
Hey 29, your Masters degree in English should have taught you that you do not capitalize after a comma as in “Hey 26, Your 4th grade…..”
October 14th, 2009 at 9:10 am
I think Fidler should start the game and if he’s not doin the job then pull him. I know he didnt have a whole lot of snaps in the SC game so it’s kinda only fair…but what we did see in the SC game was not an SEC QB. But if he’s not gettin it down in practice after bein here this long…then it’s only right that Newton start.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:12 am
kyjello-You are a moron. #26 was right when he called you out. If you can’t think of anything better to do than insult someones grammar/spelling then you need to just not post.
#26 was right. Fidler was terrible. Just the fact that Newton is mobile will help a lot. It’s like having a slightly less athletic Cobb that can throw. Just think how much that will help out offense by having a run AND pass option. I forsee Newton putting in a pretty sad showing his first outing, but he will do a heck of a lot better than what Fiddler has shown us.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Has anyone seen what the collective braintrust at TBK has come up with for madness? This could possibly be the dumbest/lamest thing I’ve ever heard, but they’re loving it- http://www.truebluekentucky.com/index.php/forums/2-true-blue-hoops/434 857-whos-got-the-best-idea-for-a-madness-chantposter.html?pth=435002&n th=435023

I also pray that there isn’t a rapper at BBM. Worst music ever.
Having said that…if it will make the players happy then so be it. I will take that time to go do something productive like take a leak and get a drink.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Well, well well. I had asked saveuk if he/she/it wanted to just write their opinions on my site awhile back and I got the “I have no inside info, now breaking news, blah blah blah” spiel. It’s not like I was trying to take down KSR or anything, just wanted to give them a more structured venue to air their thoughts.
Oh well.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:21 am
I cannot believe what I’m hearing for the special guest at BBM. I am certainly no country music lover, but I’d rather hear a hog scratch its ass on a fence than listen to ANY rap artist.
October 14th, 2009 at 9:25 am
I am telling you. We need to just drop all this rap discussion and push for Men Without Hats to come play at BBM. You cannot go wrong with The Safety Dance. haha

37.) Its not going to kill anyone to list to 4 minutes of hip/hop …. If Leslie and Gilchrist are impressed and sign, you’ll be begging for Too Short next year!
October 14th, 2009 at 9:35 am
#40- I would be fine with hip hop. I just can’t stand rap. (not the same) However, if the music makes the players/recruits happy. I am all for taking a 5 min restroom break, lol.
Now, if we just got Men Without Hats everyone would be happy, haha.

October 14th, 2009 at 10:00 am
I don’t listen to rap, and couldn’t tell you what a Drake is, but Madness had changed as has the culture for kids. Madness used to be the tip-off of the baskteball season for 5,000 people in Memorial Coliseum. Now it’s a show, put on for 24,000+ people, and the #1 recruiting tool outside of the season. If today’s youth dig what Drake is selling, I am all for him being there. I’ll sacrifice 5 minutes of music I can’t comprehend for added interest from Harris, Leslie, Yarouf, Irving, etc.
October 14th, 2009 at 10:13 am
Matt, I think KSR needs to make a rule..about spelling mistakes in the comment sections…I’m sure that everyone who comments on this site makes spelling errors….NOT because they can’t spell, but because they are typing fast… I sure know that I do..I’ve seen Matt do it during a live blog (typing fast)…. New Rule should be, Spelling Errors during a nerd fight is not a good way to retaliate.. it just makes you look like an a**…maybe this is already included in the rules of a nerd fight..can’t remember…
October 14th, 2009 at 10:30 am
One thing this site needs is a lot less belly aching. We are ALL UK fans! We love the CATS! We don’t need to make fun of any other site or blog that supports the CATS because they are fans TOO! Who cares who the musical act is going to be at BBM? I want to see the players PERFORM! I understand that the recruits are into this stuff and all, but if a performer at Madness is what causes them to commit, we are wasting a lot of money on coach Cal!! Sorry for ranting but i am trying to quit smoking!! Thanks,
October 14th, 2009 at 10:34 am
30–that one had me in tears. hilarious
October 14th, 2009 at 10:38 am

the people complaining about spelling are like bitching wives.
October 14th, 2009 at 11:24 am
This shows how muck people care about the football situation. The post was about the newton era and we are talking about spelling and who is going to be rapping this friday night. LMFAO
October 14th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Who give’s a shit what entertainment will be there. I’m there to see the NEXT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM and Coaching Staff. I do know if it is that Kanye idiot or some stupid rapper the crowd should leave!!! GO CATS!!!
Now onto FOOTBALL… Fidler should start and if he can’t get it done bring in Newton!! GO CATS!!!
October 14th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
Its good for our recruiting that Drake will be there.
Just don’t bring that whiny ritch Kanye with em…
October 14th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
Haha 52) you just said muck instead of much…dummy. I’m kiddin, dont take your shirt off. FIDLER 4 LIFE! I like Brooks but he should have given Will the start…you don’t start a true freshman on the road in the SEC midseason. Will atleast has experience. kyjello’s story is absolutely true, Brooks didn’t give Fidler the chance to battle Newton in practice. This is one decision by Brooks that I dont respect.
October 14th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
hey folks, its not like Brooks and Sanders haven’t seen these two guys in practice for the past 4 months. I’d trust their judgement on this one. Understand it must be disappointing for Will, but there are a lot of kids on the team that don’t get a chance because someone else performs better in practice. Besides, Newton is the future of the program - and there’s no time like the present for him to start getting the experience he needs to be successful.
No illusions though… Saturday might be hard to watch. The defense needs to step up!
October 15th, 2009 at 5:56 am
44 - thanks!
