[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Lots going on tonight, so we gotta move quick on a couple of notes…..
(1) Get ready for our man Rajon Rondo’s stock to absolutely soar over the next year. In a manner similar to Tayshaun Prince, Rondo has fallen into a perfect situation on a team that is about to rise considerably in the rankings. With the acquisition of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and the decision to keep Paul Pierce, Rondo will now likely start for a team that could be headed toward the Eastern Conference Finals. On a team full of superstars, Rondo can do what he does best, focus on defense and creation for his teammates. However, unfortunately he will not likely be able to do what the Celtics may need him most to do…..hit the open jumper. Nevertheless, Rondo will rise in the nation’s collective basektball consciousness over the year and that can only help his alma mater….the Cats.
(2) Speaking of stocks rising, if you invested last week in Jon Hood, you made a good choice. The rising junior from Madisonville has become the latest in the long line of Kentucky high school players hitting the national scene. Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com says that Wall was one of the revelations of the Vegas AAU tournament this past weekend and that teams like Tennessee are starting to become interested. This is one worth watching and I look forward to seeing the kid play this fall.
(3) Two more days until contact period begins again…..expect news to go fast and furious for the next couple of weeks. On Thursday we will give you the “UK Recruit Summary” to get you caught up on where UK stands with the main targets and what the overall status of UK’s efforts currently is. I often get asked, “Matt, summarize where we stand for those of us that dont follow it every day.” Its coming…..
Sad to hear that Tom Snyder passed away…..a legend in the interview business and someone who helped create the modern trend of making interviews entertaining by making the host entertaining. Also sad news about the Chief Justice’s seizure…..those who know me know my fondness for him personally and I hope things end up ok with him.
Phil Steele on the show Wednesday, Tyler Zeller on Thursday, Darius Miller on Friday…….be ready

July 30th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
love the new thread but there sure was a lot we could have said about that last picture and the even uglier schedule.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:02 am
Matt, you are busy, and might have confused Hood and Wall…. Maybe not?
July 31st, 2007 at 12:06 am
For once, it looks like Danny Ainge got a good deal for Garnett. I would have like to have seen the Celtics be able to keep Ryan Gomes, but Garnett’s contract is so huge that Ainge probably had to unload half of his team to get him.
I guess the lineup next year for the Celts will be Pierce, Allen, Garnett, Rondo with the fifth spot going to either Tony Allen or Kendrick Perkins. With the NBA’s emphasis on perimeter play, I could see the Celtics going with a 3-guard lineup with Allen in the starting lineup.
It might be good for the Celts to sign an aging free agent point guard like Darrell Armstrong to mentor Rondo for 07-08. Barring injuries, that’s going to be a good team up in Boston — I’d like to see them match up with the Nets.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:07 am
I heard a report where Rondo was part of the deal and was going to MN. Am I wrong?
July 31st, 2007 at 12:08 am
Rondo was discussed as potentially part of the deal, but it wasn’t final. Maybe he wasn’t part of the deal when it was all said and done?
July 31st, 2007 at 12:09 am
Rondo is off limits. He isn’t going anywhere.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:12 am
good call SoCal…thanks for the heads up
July 31st, 2007 at 12:12 am
Never heard any talk of Rondo in the trade. I think the Celts are giving up Jefferson, Gomes, Telfair, Theo Ratliff, Gerald Green and two draft picks for Garnett.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:13 am
BILL WALSH IS A BIG LOST TO.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:20 am
Well, I read a report where the rumor was Rondo, Jefferson, Ratliff for Garnett. It must have only been discussed though.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:21 am
11. Serious, it takes 5 players to get one in Garnett? Wow.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:22 am
Gerald Green could be a star too. Hard to believe he would be part of the deal.
July 31st, 2007 at 1:22 am
no matter who they get they are still going to get whip by my heats.
July 31st, 2007 at 1:41 am
yea, the heat will be back for shaq’s final ring next year. just wait and see
July 31st, 2007 at 1:49 am
The Heat is OLD as hell
July 31st, 2007 at 2:18 am
I say the Nets will be pretty damn good to..don’t count out the Bulls and Pistons either. Magic will be alot better also
July 31st, 2007 at 2:48 am
Spurs will be in it again too. Way too much talent on that roster. Also, I think the Jazz are only getting better & they will shock a lot of people come post-season. Finally, the norms are still going to do alright (Suns, Mavs) & Golden State might do ok as well. F the Bulls– not saying anything good about them b/c of Jokimberly (whomever it is that always calls him that– I LOVE IT! Cracks me up everytime I see it or a pix of Noah. Its such a fitting name for him/her.) LOL
July 31st, 2007 at 4:05 am
Rondo is probably the best ball handler and fastest player i have ever seen in blue
July 31st, 2007 at 5:11 am
Are you guys absolutely sure that Rondo’s athleticism will suddenly make him a good NBA point guard? He was good at UK but the NBA is a totally different game. If he can’t knock down a jump shot, even Steve Nash can guard him. Poor Rajon is either going to shine or be completely exposed…there won’t be an in between.
July 31st, 2007 at 7:23 am
Tom Snyder and Justice Roberts’ seizure, yet no mention of one of the most influential people in the history of football? Come on Matt, you’re better than that.
July 31st, 2007 at 8:08 am
Actually Matt’s not better than that–he’s much worse.
July 31st, 2007 at 8:10 am
Jon Hood or Jon Wall?
July 31st, 2007 at 8:28 am
Bo knows football. Matt Jones does not.
July 31st, 2007 at 9:04 am
Rondo could be the second or third fastest behind
Dwight Anderson and Dickie Beal!
July 31st, 2007 at 9:15 am
Rondo has the ability to break anyone down off the dribble, he did it in college and has proven it in the NBA..for him to be effective on that team, all he has to do is penetrate and kick the rock. His assist totals should be very good this year. He doesn’t necessarily have to be able to shoot from the perimeter to be effective. Ainge wants to utilize a fast pace offense, and Rondo is his type of player. Rondo will have a very good season.
July 31st, 2007 at 9:20 am
Timberwolves asked Ainge for Rondo to sweeten the pot, but Danny said uhhhhhhhhh….no. Ainge loves Rondo.
July 31st, 2007 at 9:22 am
Bo knows hip replacement.
July 31st, 2007 at 9:46 am
Can one of you guys name me one pg ever in nba history who could not shoot from the perimeter (except for an young jason kidd)?
July 31st, 2007 at 9:47 am
31-That was pretty good, i mean

July 31st, 2007 at 10:36 am
Rondo has quickness and plays good defense - but come on - for anyone to think he’s going to be a major cog in the wheel? I don’t think so. Wait till he hits free agency - he just needs one more good contract, than he’ll go all diva with the attention just like he did at UK.
July 31st, 2007 at 10:42 am
#27 - Having seen both Anderson and Beal, I would have to agree, especially on Anderson, and that’s not a knock on Rajon either.
July 31st, 2007 at 10:54 am
This deal isn’t done currently, all speculation at this point.
July 31st, 2007 at 11:10 am
Rondo kind of has to be the major cog at the point if the trade goes through. Telfair will be gone, Tony Allen is more of a scorer, and Rondo’s assist/turnover ratio was slightly better than 2/1 as a rookie. Ainge would have to sign another point guard to back up Rondo in games and challenge him in practices.
July 31st, 2007 at 12:09 pm
have you guys lost your minds ?
rondo has NO passing skills at all.
anybody got assist stats for him ?
July 31st, 2007 at 1:05 pm
UK isn’t Rondo alma mater. Last I checked, he never graduated, my friend.
July 31st, 2007 at 1:17 pm
Gosh… I admire you Paul Newbill!
July 31st, 2007 at 1:35 pm
31) Isiah Thomas had a 29% career 3 pt average & he is considered by many as the greatest pg in the history of the NBA.
July 31st, 2007 at 1:48 pm
42) One doesn’t HAVE to graduate from a school to call it an alma mater, only attended the school. Yes, most of the time it is assumed that they graduated, but graduating not technically a requirement.

July 31st, 2007 at 2:25 pm
well sob…… that means UL is my alma mater.
July 31st, 2007 at 2:50 pm
Per SI’s article on the trade, MN did want Rondo…but it sounds like Boston fought to keep him in Green..
“The Celtics spent the recent days trying to hold onto second-year point guard Rajon Rondo and keep him out of the trade. ”

July 31st, 2007 at 3:19 pm
46) yeah I have that same sad claim too….lol
July 31st, 2007 at 6:00 pm
Looks like what all us CRAZY Cats fans have been waiting for is getting ready to start..Hopefully the commitments will start coming in to UK. I can’t wait..Get “R” Done!!
July 31st, 2007 at 9:14 pm
NBA talk- who cares?
July 31st, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Have the celtics sold out the future for a star and a another swingman? I hope not, it has been a long, long time since us lowly Celtic fans have had any reason to hope.
August 2nd, 2007 at 9:14 pm
Jon Hood is blowing up. Now receiving calls from Duke and Florida to go along with many others and his offers from Ole Miss and Georgia.
