Solving the Mystery of the Big Blue Madness Guest

by @ 1:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Here we are, just days away from Big Blue Madness, and rumors are swirling about which celebrities could be in attendance.  Yesterday, Coach Cal dropped by a Psych 101 class and told the students that there will be an appearance by a big time recording artist.  Calipari told the class, “When you figure out who it is, you’ll go crazy that he is coming down.”  AHA!  We have clues: the mystery guest is a male, and we will go crazy.  I guess it’s time for KSR’s lead detective to get on the case…

Drake - Drake appears to be the favorite amongst all of the rumors, ever since Coach Cal sent out this tweet over the summer: “I missed Drake because he had to fly to Miami 4 business on short notice. Sending him some gear. Should we have him come 2 Big Blue Madness?” Drake would definitely be a hit with the students, and more importantly, the recruits.  He is one of the hottest artists in hip-hop right now, after signing with Lil Wayne’s record label, Young Money Entertainment, over the summer.  Chances are very slim that the “blue hairs” will be singing along to “Best I Ever Had“, but, it is time for UK to cater to a new, younger demographic.

Jay-Z - One of the biggest names in entertainment.  I can’t even imagine what it would do for recruiting if Hova were to show up at BBM in a Kentucky jersey and a New Era CATS flatbill.  Could it happen?  Well, he is best buddies with Lebron James and is close to William Wesley, but, that Blueprint 3 tour stop in Vancouver sure does hurt the chances of him being in Lexington on Friday.

Justin Timberlake - Not happening.  Although, he is friends with Calipari, Justin Timberlake will be bringing sexy back at his celebrity golf tournament in Las Vegas this weekend.  Sorry, Krebs.  Maybe next year.

Lil Wayne -  Calipari is a powerful man, but, I don’t think he even has the connections to bring Lil Wayne to Big Blue Madness.  Lil Wayne is the king of the music business right now.  He would blow the roof off of Rupp Arena.   But, like Jay-Z, I think Lil Wayne is just too big of a star for Kentucky to land and there aren’t any connections (that I’m aware of) to get him here.

Montgomery Gentry - Eddie Montgomery (John Michael’s baby bro) and Troy Gentry make up this country duo from right here in Kentucky.  The pair started off playing gigs at the Grapevine in Lexington, which might explain why they are die hard UK fans.  With that being said, if Montgomery Gentry is the big surprise, I’ll be the guy racing Kyrie Irving, Tobias Harris, and all of the other recruits to the exit.

AJ Stewart - Silhouettes of a perfect face…”

Raekwon - I bet you didn’t know the Wu-Tang Clan has ties to Kentucky basketball.  In the song “Triumph”, Raekwon makes a reference to a current UK assistant (no, not Robic):
The swift chancellor, flex, the white-gold tarantula. Track truck diesel, play the weed God, substantiala. Max mostly, undivided, then slide in, sicknin. Guaranteed, made em jump like Rod Strickland.

Michael Johnathan - and the WOODSONGS OLD TIME RADIO HOUR!  No?

Bobby Maze - I can’t help but think that the “big recording artist” is going to be a rapper, so why not the best rapper in the SEC?  Maze would definitely get the crowd fired up.  Too bad he only puts on for Tennessee.

Kevin Skinner - America’s Got Talent winner and former “chicken catcher” from Mayfield, Kentucky.  He would be a great addition to the event, if we’re trying to get the recruits to cry their eyes out.  Don’t act like you didn’t pick up the phone and call that special someone, as soon as you heard his audition.

Ramel “Smooth” Bradley - The former Wildcat baller is now rapping under the name Ra Smooth.  Ramel would be easy to book for BBM, but I don’t see anyone going crazy over him.  I know I would use the time during Ra Smooth’s performance to go break the seal.

Daniel Solzman -  He’s a recording artist, check.  I would go crazy, check.  He loves him some Kentucky basket-ball.  He roots for Kentucky basket-ball.  He wants to see some Kentucky basket-ball.  Could he be the mystery guest? guest? guest?

lazy_tuesday

That’s it for me.  Use the thread for any other possibilities you may have.  Just don’t be mad if you’re wrong.  My heart is set on Daniel Solzman.  I guess we’ll know soon enough…

I’ve got it! Just like the people behind the scenes of Big Blue Madnes have ALWAYS made fantastic decisions, they have unanimously selected…

The artist that will really touch the crowd in a soft spot…

And the players will really relate to…

What kind of network ads do you guys have running now? On one side I’ve got an ad for what looks like AC Slater’s (or Randall Cobb’s) Buddy Band that helps you sleep and could also be used in a mine. On the other side, some Nordstrom ad with “Mariah”.

Anyway, is Ashley Judd gonna make an appearance or what?

If it’s Solzman I’ll pay $2000 for a ticket. I just watched Lazy Tuesday for probably the first time in a year… brought a little tear to my eye. It’s just amazing how every time Solzman moves just a little bit, whether it’s him shooting a fake jumper or scurrying around like a little ladybug in the open, he almost loses his balance and falls down every single time.

  16. TheBigBooyah Says:

    Hanson

  17. slappy Says:

Another thing I never noticed on the Lazy Tuesday video- At about 1:10 where the picture fades out, Solzman’s just standing there looking into the camera and shaking his head and looking hard… like, “Don’t f with me right now, I am FEELING IT.” Ha!

Is there any way we can get a live chat with Solzman? I need to know his thoughts on this upcoming season.

  18. Cuz Cousins Says:

Bobby Light, I also heard may be the one at Madness!

    19) I agree on that…but I tell what that Kevin Skinner video, made me want to cry (yes, I am a girl)…I had heard about him winning that show…but had never seen him sing….he was good!!

Drew, you wrote: “…it is time for UK to cater to a new, younger demographic.”

That much I can agree with…but do you think we really need to have lyrics like those in that Drake video in order to do so? I hope not.

  27. Jax Teller Says:

The long-awaited Led Zeppelin reunion show?

  28. travyork Says:

    Biggie and Tupac?

  29. Laker Cat 18 Says:

Key words, “he is coming down.” It’s a dude, which eliminates Timberlake. The only 2 realistic ones on the list, in my opinion are Drake or Jay-Z. Even Jay-Z may be a reach. Both these 2 guys are from the north, therefore the “coming down” quote. I would like either of these guys or Lil Wayne. Chances Lil Wayne comes are slim to none, but I would never underestimate Coach Cal. Hope ya’ll understand my analysis!

  30. Jax Teller Says:

    The Sugarhill Gang?

  31. Fisherman Says:

Either Hanna Montana or The Wiggles.

  32. travyork Says:

    jonas brothers

  33. chworld22 Says:

Get either of the first two on that list you and you get commitments that night from a couple of the guys visiting. Those two have major pull right night. Jay-Z being the longer term talent of course but Drake is super hot right now. I think he has five or six songs on the Billboard hot 100 and that is amazing for a first time artist like him.

  34. Cal Purnell here Says:

Big Daddy Kane or DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince??

  41. HighOnUK Says:

    25. Why do you think there was so much speculation about Jay Z buying the Nets and LeBron going to play for him? They’re definitely buddies. But it won’t be Jay Z cuz he has a real show that night…

  42. AlDirt Says:

    25) clearly you’ve never seen any Cavs game in NY… Jay-Z is always on the floor talking to Lebron during shootaround, and after the game… in fact, one of the first articles about Lebron while he was still in High School was about his connection to Hov. Hell, why do you think there’s all this talk about Lebron to the Nets??

  43. AlDirt Says:

    damn you 42… hahaha

  44. Ky76 Says:

Could it Be Gnarls Barkley!!!! They did have a Song called “CRAZY”…..or it could just Be Jay-Z…..

  45. TOMPAV83 Says:

Raekwon needs to get the whole Wu-Tang clan to BBM
Life lessons include…’Cash Rules Everything Around Me’, ‘Protect ya neck’, and “You gotta diversify yo bonds”

  46. AlDirt Says:

if it’s Gnarls, I’ll go crazy!

  47. NewWildcatOrder Says:

  57. CAnTuckeeBoi Says:

54.) What the hell is a soda fountain??? Is it like a water fountain with soda coming out????

  58. father torque Says:

57 replies and nobody guessed the correct answer??? C’mon people it’s obvious. It’s old Frosty tips and his 80’s cover band!!

  59. CAnTuckeeBoi Says:

Its going to be DRAKE I know some people who know some people, and I doubt he will perform very much, if any at all, but he is going to judge the dunk contest. Drake played basketball growing up and from what i’ve heard is farely decent, he tore his ACL right before Cal went to meet with him……

    TIFWIW

  60. Cats Fan CWR Says:

I heard WWW was able to resuscitate Michael Jackson, who will be performing a variety of his greatest hits.

  61. rbdono2 Says:

    54) sounds like you’ve been at the beer fountain for a while now.

  62. Bobby Adkins Says:

I know Hov and Bron are pals, but to solidify #25’s comment on one of Jay Z’s new song front the Blueprint 3 there is a lyric that goes “if Jeezy’s paying LeBron I’m paying Dwayne Wade”
I don’t understand the meaning of it, but there ya go.

  63. UKfansNKY Says:

57……I hope she kicks him in the balls if he’s got any….

  78. jstipp64 Says:

ok guys.. let’s use a little common sense here.. Jay Z has a concert that night in Canada.. it’s not going to be him. LIL Wayne has been over seas for a few weeks and has a concert in Amsterdam on Thursday.. which is his last show… but do you really think he’s going to fly all the way around the world.. just for madness.. Im not convinced. With Cal talking about Drake in the summer.. I would even say it’s not to far fetched toi see Lebron.. even though he has a prseason game that night.. we all know those don’t mean anything
