[Moderated by Matt Jones]

I just spoke with Phil Kornblut, the Kentucky Sports Radio of South Carolina, who spoke with me about this article in which he states that 6′6″ forward Mike Jones either is now, or will be, visiting Kentucky. Phil said that Mike was a 2006 recruit who went to Syracuse for a semester, but then came back home to South Carolina for the Spring. He had academic troubles at South Carolina and is now at a Junior College in Iowa. It is not clear whether he would be eligible to play at Kentucky this fall, but Billy Clyde has been recruiting and trying to get him on campus. Jones played in the Jordan Classic in 06 and Kornblut says he is a “big time talent.” More to come as we find it out…..
(Thanks to Aaron’s News Blog for sending me to Phil….)

Man Coach G. set em up and knock em down! WoHHHOOOO!!!
June 30th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Looking at his old vids, his game reminds me a little of Antwain Barbour. But do we really need another SF with Harris, Legion, Liggins, Jasper, and possibly Miller and Warren in the mix? I know some of the mentioned players above aren’t traditional SF, but we need big men and his vids didn’t look that impressive considering Washington is very likely coming on board.

I think everyone is going to have to get used to hearing about tons of players who are coming to visit or are receiving interest and arent ever going to wind up in a Kentucky uniform becuase we dont have enough spot.
Seems like Billy tries to talk to every player who he thinks can help us and whoever commits first commits first.

I remember seeing this guy play in the Jordan Classic game. Decent player but not certain how he fits with all the other wings Uk has on the roster.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
I guess there will always be some fans who will question every Gillispie moves. not me. Get as many as you can Billy boy. Plenty of quality subs.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
Lets have a party for Billy G. Man is it nice to be back at the top.
Guys we are the it school. Kids come on, your home now.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:04 pm
who is mike jones?
June 30th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Man, Gillispie has left no stone unturned in his effort to get the UK roster in the best possible condition for the upcoming season. I love this guy!
June 30th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
13.
Not used to seeing this kind of work ethic from our coach?
June 30th, 2007 at 8:07 pm
Tick…Tock…Tick that’s the sound of the clock running out of time for your commitment guys!!Get it while the gettings good!
June 30th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
13) No doubt about that! He’s a brilliant recruiter. Unbelievable how many options we’re sitting on right now. I’ll no longer worry if we lose out on some of these recruits. There’s always a new one around the bend. Guess that’s BCG’s “scare” tactic; although its not a fake scare, its reality. There IS always another recruit right on their heels.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
Miller, Zellar, if you guys want to be Kentucky Wildcats, crap or get off the pot - you may end up playing for a deficient second tier program like UNC, Duke, Florida, Kansas, or UCLA.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
16.
Yup, he casts a wide net.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
17) Ha Ha– kind of funny calling those programs second tier. True, but funny!
So, how many commits by Sunday at midnight & whom do you expect them to be? (Since July is a dead period, can recruits verbal during that month, but just not visit?)
I say 2 commits: Clarke & Washington with Miller shaking in his shoes.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
COME ON ZELLER, AND MILLER, WE NEED YOU THE MOST. MATT CALL ZELLER
JUST CALL ZELLER LET HIM KNOW NOW.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
19.
They are now - their coaches can’t compete with Gillispie’s recruiting talent.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:15 pm
I’m having an information overload! This is so exciting–even if we come away without any verbals. BCG is a beast recruiter!
June 30th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
I think Washington commits tomorrow or Monday, Clarke at some point next week, and Warren shortly thereafter.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:25 pm
So recruits CAN verbal during the dead period of July? If that’s so, then I whole-heartedly agree. Clarke will get his parents out here ASAP to see UK’s campus.
What about D Miller? I think BCG will have a spot for him regardless of scholly count. He’s too aware of the importance of signing a Kentucky kid & the image/precedence it sets forth to the state.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Can we accept walk-ons & find ways to help them get their schooling paid for or would that technically be considered a basketball scholly?
June 30th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
BILLY IS GOING TO HIT TONIGHT.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Just go out get some beer, and stay here.
June 30th, 2007 at 8:48 pm
24.
Recruits can do anything they want - coaches cannot contact recruits (in any fashion) during the dead period
June 30th, 2007 at 9:09 pm
Thanks– I just wasn’t sure if the dead period went both ways. It makes sense that recruits can still verbal and communicate with the coach, but you never know with the NCAA rules & regs.
June 30th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
WOW this amazing go billy g.and go big blue

UF is a ’second tier school’? Second as in TWO BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS? I guess UK is ‘old hat’, then. That old tradition hat that the dog farts and pisses on…
