Through a couple of sources, we now have confirmed that five recruits have been on UK’s campus at some point this weekend. Rotnei Clarke, Darius Miller, Andre Clark, Leonard Washington and KC Miller either are, or have been around the UK campus in the last three days. More on these visits as the weekend progresses…..

Any verbals?
June 30th, 2007 at 7:05 pm
This is just crazy…I have seen several national media sources NOW starting to criticize Tubby for not being able to recruit better at the Mecca of College Basketball…it should always be like this at UK, and just proves how much our program was set back over the past several years. Not only am I happy for our success, and I am not bitter at Tubby (well, not too much), but this will also justify to the national folks that we were right in our complaining.
June 30th, 2007 at 7:07 pm
we will get some verbals this weekend. i think the recruits are getting a little scared that some may commit before others and then they will be odd man out.
June 30th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
tubby just had 2 bad years here. But man Billy G is the man.
all tubby needed was a big man in 05.
June 30th, 2007 at 7:11 pm
#5 is absolutely right. I think all those ESPN analysts and others who critize us UK fans for having ridiculous expectations should apologize. Billy G has proven that Tubby did not recruit to the extent he should have here at UK. That is why Tubby is good for Minnesota, but not UK. UK is back on the right track and the future looks great!! I call a final four in the next two or three years.

i wish willie warren came with rotnie. rotnie looks like a way better cameron mills to me.
June 30th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
Both A. Clark and Washington. Could both players come and play for the Cats in November?
June 30th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
So a Rotnei Clarke verbal looks to be imminent. Will Willie Warren keep his word and go to the same school as Rotnei? Will there even be a spot left for him? This seems to be a problem, but in a good way.
June 30th, 2007 at 7:21 pm
we can pull some verbals from miller, clarke, and Washington while they are here. what yo think??

June 30th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
I keep thinking “How are we going to get Zeller and/or Czyz if we get verbals from Miller, Washington, Warren, and Clark?” I want some big men and I was hoping for both Zeller and Czyz rather than guards myself. I guess I need to expect a 4 guard lineup…
June 30th, 2007 at 7:38 pm
andre clark? i thought uk was definitely off his list. interesting…

#1 class in 2004. Top 5 classes in 1998 and 1999. Top 10 classes in 2000 and 2001. Top 15 classes in 2002 and 2006. NR classes in 2003 and 2005.

Seems as though this last minute rush has occurred b/c recruits are realizing quickly the value of the open sholly. They know that UK will no longer wait around on decisions. We’re done being patient. Again, this proves the Laws of Supply/Demand: low supply of schollies + high supply of recruits= major demand for verbals! Having all these recruits on campus concurrently is a BRILLIANT tactic to get verbals. The recruits see one another getting excited about UK & ready to commit; they know they need to beat each other out for the scholly, they realize if they don’t commit now, their spot may be gone. Even though most of them are from different class years, it still (most likely) formulates competition for spots in their minds. COULD THIS GET ANY BETTER?!?! Brilliant, just brilliant!
While I’m a huge fan of Zeller & UK needs a big~ I’d much rather have a verbal/committment from a recruit than to be “ranked high on their list”. As for D Miller–I recognize picking a college to attend is a huge decision– but he’s from Kentucky, dammit–what more does he need? Shit or get off the pot! BCG is taking this program back to the top!
June 30th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
Scholarships are running out and BCG is on a first come first serve as far as offers go.If Miller misses out,it’ll be of his own doing. This past year was the first year I followed recruiting that intensely. The whole Patterson and Lucas show really got on my nerves!!!That being said,I believe that will never happen again,BCG will not sit on a scholly while recruits ponder their future.Get on the bus Miller or be prepared to sing”Rocky Top” for the next four years of your life!!!
June 30th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
I’m pretty sure UK will be seeing at least 2 verbals before the weekend is finished. I’m guessing Clarke & Washington, not ruling out D Miller. Only question-mark remaining around Clarke’s visit is what his parents will do, considering Dad said in the interview that they wanted to speak with BCG & visit campus before any committments are made. How’s that going to be handled?

#17 Tom Gray you are a complete idiot.

its just crazy. I have been a hard core uk bb fan for 25+ years and have never been into recruiting like this year. I dont know if for reason its more exciting than normal or if its just BG. I think a little more exciting but mostly because of BG. wow. I even live on the west coast and i cant get enough. I cant imagin being there in Ky. to me is seems like everyone there is smiling uncontrolably. Anyway, the whole coaching change, with two weeks of BD craziness ending so abruptly with a coach we knew little about and Patterson being such a must have for BG instantly. it was very exciting to see that unfold. had me hooked. and now i know so much more about these high school kids than i should, i’m even more interested. and actually, most of the credit goes to this site. if i were checking kentucky.com for news i wouldnt care about recruiting any more than i did, they are reporting less than nothing. its amazing. blah, blah, blah… i am rambling….. where’s my beer…..

#21 LMFAO…isn’t that the truth…Smokey has his head so far up the plow’s arse he has trouble breathing….
June 30th, 2007 at 8:41 pm
22) I’m laughing, b/c its like reading something I would write! I’m in Texas & found this site while DESPERATELY seeking any info I could find when UK was looking for a coach. I’m so jealous that I’m not in Lexington, OK not really! (but with regards to UK b-ball, I am) Once I found this site, I’m hooked, obsessively hooked! I never kept up with recruits, other than knowing who we signed & a little about them. Now I could write informative recruiting blogs for ESPN I think
(again, not really!!) BTW, your beer is sitting on the coaster beside your laptop….

In all seriousness, Matt or Marc or someone needs to break down the scholarship situation for us, because it will be a major issue for the remainder of the 08 recruiting cycle. The way I see it, right now we have one extra scholarship for the 07 class (the one Coury sat on last year, and presumably will again if no one commits for this fall). Then we lose 2 seniors after this season (RB and JC). This gives us a total of 3 available scholarships for the 2008 class, assuming no one else commits for 07. FWIW, I am strongly against any additional 07 commits, barring reclassification by an 08 stud, if for no other reason than to balance out the scholarship situation. Currently we have 4 incoming freshmen, 6 rising sophs counting Carter, 0 juniors, and 2 seniors. It’s not healthy to have 11 of 13 scholarships lumped in 2 of 4 classes.
Here’s how I see it: 1 of 3 scholarships is already taken by Liggins. Whether it’s a stud like Zeller or some horrible stiff from abroad, we absolutely MUST have a big man in that class, so there goes the 2nd scholarship. This leaves only 1 spot for Clarke (who appears ready to commit), Miller (who Gillispie says is the most important player in this class), and Warren (the most talented player of the bunch). It looks like 2 guys will soon be on the outside looking in. Where are the additional spots going to come from? I’ve heard theories about transfers and academic scholarships, but nothing concrete. Since this is the web, I’ll venture one guess — if I’m Michael Porter, I see BCG recruiting over me left and right. This year he’s behind RB, JC, JM, AL, and a recovering DJ, with Liggins and another top guard to come in 08. Perhaps it’s time to see if he still has Pete Carroll’s number on his cell phone.

Carter will be A Junior this year. When he has completed his senior year they can apply for his medical redshirt for last season this makes him able to play another year that dont count against the 13 scolly rule isnt that just sweet or what.GO BIG BLUE

#29 — That’s a good point, and it’s obviously wise for UK to wait to apply for Carter’s redshirt. But it doesn’t relieve the scholarship situation until the entering class of 2009, when he’ll be in his 5th year. It won’t help us for the entering class of 2008, which is when spots are so scarce.
