UK to host journalism panel about “Syphergate”

by @ 5:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

The Bluegrass and Kentucky Student chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists will host a panel discussion at W.T. Young Library September 21 titled “Covering the Pitino Scandal”. The panel of journalists will consist of the Herald-Leader’s Mark Story, the Courier-Journal’s Andrew Wolfson and Candyce Clifft of Fox 41 and, according to the email announcement I received, will discuss “how they broke the story of a woman who allegedly attempted to extort University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino after the two had a sexual encounter, which she claimed was rape”.  Not likely to be discussed: how a wink and an appetizer carries so much more weight than when I was in college.

Wolfson is the court reporter for the C-J and covered the happenings, while Clifft is the interviewer from Sypher’s early Fox interviews.  Mark Story just loves a good roundtable discussion.  And he wrote a column about why Pitino should step down.

The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
