REMEMBER: YOU NEED TO START FILLING OUT YOUR PICKS FOR THE KSR COLLEGE AND PRO PICKEM GAMES, AS WELL AS THE NFL SURVIVAL LEAGUES WE CREATED.  IN THE CASE OF THE SURVIVAL GAME, IF YOU MISS A WEEK, YOU ARE ELIMINATED.  IT IS ALSO UNLIKELY YOU WOULD WIN EITHER OF THE OTHER TWO GAMES IF YOU MISS A WEEK.

-The trial of Jason Stinson begins today.  If you forgot, Stinson is the former football coach at PRP who is being charged with reckless homicide after one of his players died of a heat-realted injury last season.  As this article points out in the Courier-Journal, it appears that it will be difficult to convict Stinson

-Alex Smith is really not a good NFL quarterback.  But he is one hell of a blocker

-Kenny Chesney is going to write the song for ESPN’s College Gameday.  And people around the world make the bitter beer face in unison.

-Here was the top story on this weekend’s “Outside the Lines”.  It involves the massive amount of hiring of search committees to find college coaches, especially in football.  But, a key portion of the story is the hiring of Billy Gillispie, as found by a search committee, and how these things can often go wrong.

Allen County - Scottsville???? We do not give a crap about Allen County - Scottsville…………

    Signed,
Barren, Metcalfe, Monroe, Glasgow, and the rest of South Central KY.

  4. cr8zcatsfan Says:

Class 3A - Russell won over Greenup County, not Russell County. Just thought I’d point that out, no biggie really.

  5. veeper Says:

So, are you one of those tired of seeing Billy Gillispie’s name on the front page of your paper or seeing it the lead on your local TV news. Had enough of it? Talk about a monumental poor hire - a true boondoogle - classic cluster_uck, simply a damn cryin shame.

Well - who ya gonna blame???

    Parker Executive Search

Yes, the folks that brought billy ball to KY —

Why do I get the feeling that they are sitting in their executive conference room in Atlanta - simply laughing their arses off?

Just wondering - based on this comment on their web page - “We present candidate background information to the client before final selection to ensure no surprises.”
I wonder is Matt could tender a false advertising claim??

Oh well, Calipari ball is here to stay!!

  6. wildcatfan81 Says:

Since Danville can’t hold it down again this year, Boyle County is going to take it all… so it doesn’t matter who else won. Yeah.

  7. Laker Cat 18 Says:

    4. Yep. I thought I didn’t waste my friday night watching Russell County beat Campbellsville 39-20…Get it right BTI!

  8. uktailg8er Says:

Maybe I am in the minority, but I would rather hear Chesney sing the intro song than Big and Rich. Those guys are awful. Have you heard Chesney’s song Touchdown Tennessee about John Ward? It almost makes you want to be a Vol fan. And, at least it is not Rascall Flats who did the Raycom song. That was like have the flagboy on UK’s squad singing about football.

  9. boots45 Says:

Owensboro played Reitz Memorial a Catholic School. Reitz high school is a public school in same town. O’boro beat Memorial 23-15. Quite a bit of difference in this area although both are good teams.

  10. jasonspurlock Says:

In my opinion, this week’s win put Prestonsburg at #2 in the state’s Div 2A. I’m pumped they defeated two good opponents, Belfry and Paintsville back to back. They’ve raised the stakes in the 15th region, handled the pressure, and are making a legitimate shot to the championship game on December 3rd against Ft Campbell.

Coach John Derossett has been with the Blackcats since 1996 and this could be the year. Eastern KY fans of the blog will remember back to 1993, 3 years prior to Derossett coming to Prestonsburg, former Prestonsburg coach — and now the Current Lexington Catholic Coach ( http://www.kentucky.com/232/story/897654.html ) — Bill Letton took the Blackcats to Papa John’s Stadium in Loserville and lost in the state championship game against Mayfield with a final score of 13-12.

Coach Derossett has been blessed with strong feeder programs over the past 4 years that have produced strong talent and minds. These boys can play. After this week’s dominating win over Paintsville in a shut out — the buzz it out, and some people are now paying attention to their names.

Coach D is flanked by his brother, a 1992 graduate of Prestonsburg, former tight end James Derossett. James is an assistant coach that doubles as the P.E. teacher at PHS and a graduate of EKU (and after his graduation, I started in his place at TE my junior year).

The “real” Cats schedule doesn’t get any easier, however. It’s time to look forward to Breathitt Co on the road September 4th. In this Labor Day gridiron brawl for the playoffs, Coach D and Cats QB/FS Michael Burchett will surely bring the thunder against Mike Holcomb’s Div IIIA team. The Bobcats currently sport an overall record of 1-1 with a weak ass schedule.

You can get more info on the Breathitt Co. Bobcats here: http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/ktzecHmtqUaCjTnZcRIqjw/breathitt- county-bobcats/football/home.htm

    Not to be outdone, however…

If you want more info on Floyd County’s own, Prestonsburg Blackcats, you can visit the most glorious website for a high school football program I have ever seen.

The Official website of Blackcat football is here: http://blackcatfootball.com/index.html

    Go CATS!!!

    10. Great post Jason!

I still have nightmares of John Stouts near-heroic FG as time expired against Mayfield….about 2 feet wide right….but the game was in the ‘dump’ (Cardinal Stadium) before Papa Johns’ was built……

    Hail Blackcats!!!
