Caption this picture…”Thank you dear Lord for the MILLIONS”….lol
Obviously, Billy Donovan to the Magic is the biggest story of the day for UK fans. We reported here about a week ago that the deal was being negotiated, but in truth, I first started talking about this a month ago. Donovan was trying to hire an assistant from Virginia, but kept putting him off (for over a month). This assistant that ended up being hired a week ago (which did make me question my sources) felt like the NBA was the reason for the delay. He was right. I don’t mind saying here that the NBA was also a MAIN FACTOR in Billy not coming to Uk. Hindsight in this case is much better than 20/20 cause we got the right Billy for the job….let’s talk about the Billy that matters to UK now….
Samardo Samuels‘ guardian is now being quoted as saying that UK is a MAJOR player for Samardo. I understand that Samardo was not even mentioning UK as an aside prior to a day or two ago. When I posted about Samuels a few days ago, I knew that it would be difficult for some to believe…and still probably is. The simple fact is this….Billy Gillispie is not a good recruiter….he is not even a great recruiter….he is an AMAZING recruiter. The best part about this is, he is one hell of a coach as well. Samuels may not end up at UK, but if the right things happen, he very well could be a Cat in the next few weeks.
If Jai Lucas decides to get out of his LOI to UF and Foley lets him out, It would not surprise me to see him at UK. I am quite certain that he was disappointed at the least when Patterson came to UK. He was all but told that Patterson was going to be a Gator. I also am quite sure that UK would still be interested in his services.
There is also an AMAZING 2007 PG from South America that you may soon hear associated with UK. He is taking his SAT in the next few days and if he can make the score, the Cats may have a future NBA PG on it’s roster. Again, that is all I’m prepared to say at this point for fear of making a mess of the deal. I hope all can understand that I try to say as much as I can without causing potential harm to UK’s efforts.
VCU head coach and former long time UF assistant Anthony Grant will be a top candidate for UF’s job. He was in Florida in recent days and has called a coaches meeting for 8pm tonight…I expect UF AD Jeremy Foley to act FAST to shore up his incoming class and make contact with the 08 studs that are listing Florida as a leader. Grant is a great recruiter and could easily get the job done in that regard. He’s a dang good coach as well.
I’ll be at Pangos All American camp this weekend in Los Angeles. Look for reports here and on www.ukuncensored.com

Florida fans don’t have to worry. Vitale lives in Sarasota and my sources say he’s interested in getting back into coaching.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:07 pm
4)Hellish little town outside of Fort Worth– Lake Granbury.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:07 pm
If Florida doesn’t let their players out of their LOI after meeting the new coach then that is going to hurt them for years to come in recruiting. Either way it’s a win for UK…..
May 31st, 2007 at 10:08 pm
I’m also hearing Lon Kruger is looking to return to the Sunshine State.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:08 pm
I’d love to see that little prick leave ESPN and coach at FL. He’s sure to succeed as much as he did way back when….
May 31st, 2007 at 10:08 pm
Marc i hope Samuels is coming, if you hit it WOW look out. YOU will
be top 2 in the USA recruiting DO you think he is coming.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:08 pm
8-man we’re neighbors…almost. im in dallas!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:09 pm
Seriously, why does Lon keep getting brought up??? Isn’t he old?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:09 pm
Let ESPN and the press start with the Billy Bashing again. This time Billy D.
Let us not forget how they berated Billy G coming to UK and how UK fans ran the Tub off.
Saw this posted elsewhere and I totally agree:
“When BG left Texas A&M all of the sports analysts, especially those for ESPN, were bashing him for leaving. They were bashing UK & Billy about how unfair it is to the kids who sign a contract and can’t get out of it if the coach decides to leave.
“How about Donovan telling a recruit who waits until the final days to decide, “I’m not going anywhere.” If these “analysts” are really out for the kids, then I want to hear them speak out about this.”
Just today in the local paper Billy D. was quoted that he had not spoken to the Magic.
Come on ESPN, Katz, Vitale lets hear you drag the Florida Fans thru the dirt and the coach for being run off to the NBA or leaving kids like Lucas hanging. We (UK fans) are waiting!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:09 pm
i bet if john pelphrey didnt go to arkansas he would have been hired at FL
May 31st, 2007 at 10:10 pm
I’m looking for a job in the Dallas area. I love the McKinney area/Greenville area.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:11 pm
my site sucks…dont’ go there.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:11 pm
nothing to do in the mckinney/greenville area. all the action is in dallas along with great eye-candy
May 31st, 2007 at 10:12 pm
18) Agreed. Calathes said he would stay at FL if they hired Grant. Poor VCU– somebody always gets the short end of the stick….
May 31st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
I meant the McKinney Ave/Greenville Rd area– I’ll move somewhere around there soon. I sure wouldn’t want to live in the Dallas burbs. I’m interested in living uptown!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
What will happen to the catholic school in Gainesville? So much heart and soul was invested. Billy the Kid can never leave UF. Thank God he didn’t come to UK.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
6. It’s hard to tell much from highlight reels but the guy has a soft touch….
May 31st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
Calathes is gone
May 31st, 2007 at 10:14 pm
19) Are you from KY?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:15 pm
uptown is the place to be!! too bad everyone there are all stuck-up!!! shouldnt we be talking about basketball??? hahhaaa
May 31st, 2007 at 10:15 pm
Anthony Grant for the Gators, I am sure. Two most unhappy people in American sports tonight?
Jai Lucas and John Pelphrey.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:15 pm
By Gawwwd, I forgot all about the Catholic school, those poor kids.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:16 pm
i lived in louisville for 10 years and then moved to houston back in the 92
May 31st, 2007 at 10:17 pm
Poor John Pelphrey, it’s probably 103 degrees in Arkansas tonight with the stinch of Pig S%*@ in the air, and now the Florida job comes open.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:17 pm
27) That’s freaking funny!!!
26) Of course we should, but sometimes comments veer off a little. Girls always end up changing the subject, sorry!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:19 pm
TUBBY CAN TAKE THE JOB. TOP 10
JOB IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:20 pm
who is the south america kid?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:20 pm
Jai Lucas will be a Cat…
May 31st, 2007 at 10:22 pm
did anyone just see TAYSHAUN PRINCE ON THE REVERSE SLAM!!!!!!!!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:23 pm
Marc, I remember very well you talking about the assistant coaching job at Florida and linking it’s delay to BD’s interest in the NBA. Cudo,s man and keep up the good work!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:23 pm
I’m obsessed with the refresh button– I’ve been refreshing all afternoon!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:23 pm
I DID!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:24 pm
22. About what they will do with the Catholic school…they will simply scrape off the name “Billy Donovan” and pencil in Anthony Grant’s name beside it. Then they can change the name again in three years after he leaves.
God I love this shit! In two months the balance of power has shifted DRASTICALLY back to where it should be.
Gaytor fans, if you’re reading this, you had it coming.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:24 pm
GO TAY GO BIG TAY
May 31st, 2007 at 10:25 pm
Dammit #35 I am watching on the internet and didnt see the dunk, I wonder if they will show it on espn between the 38 shots they will have of Lebron chewing his fingernails.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:25 pm
If I were BCG and got a call from Jai and his dad, I would offer him a walkon! I watched the McD’s game again over the weekend, and Jai had a bad game. He is good, but IMO he will not be an impact player like PP!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:26 pm
39. Oh KARMA, Anthony Grant will be the next Tubby Smith minus a championship, Dipping/snuff, and Saul
May 31st, 2007 at 10:27 pm
So, now there’s this Samuels kid, the South American kid, and theoretically even Jai…
And 1 scholly unless Billy works some magic.
Plus, if we get Samuels and anyone leaves Florida, guess who’s incoming class looks better?
And it’s past the late signing period and basketball just won’t go away.
Billy Clyde just won’t let us move on. LOL
May 31st, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Anthony Grant is a great potential hire. His VCU team played some good ball this year. He may end up being as good or better than Donovan in the long run???
May 31st, 2007 at 10:28 pm
Marc you are absolutely amazing, I love this site and I cant believe I ever lived without it. I cant wait to see all these recruits in action next year. I guarantee Florida just fell off the map in the battle for ‘08 recruits and Duke is old news. UK with Billy G. is the place to be and the word is spreading fast. I expect the recruits to start texting Billy G. saying, “please, let me come to the greatest basketball school in the country”!
I LOVE KENTUCKY BASKETBALL!!!!!!!!!!! GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:28 pm
marc come on man
May 31st, 2007 at 10:29 pm
I thought samuels was 2008 class.

May 31st, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Yes Mr. david?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:30 pm
45, I agree with you. I loved the style of play and hustle of the VCU team this year. Just because Billy D is gone doesn’t mean we still won’t have to deal with the Gators….
May 31st, 2007 at 10:31 pm
I wish Kentucky Basketball, and specifically BG, would just let me go to bed on a regular basis. I can only imagine how bad the regular season is going to be for my sleep habits.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:31 pm
Grant would be a really good coach for them– but I doubt he’ll have 10 years to prove himself the way Donovan did. He’ll come up through the ranks quickly though IMO.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:32 pm
I want to deal with the gators, I hope Arkansas and Florida stay good while we continue to get better
I want the SEC conference to rule as usual. GO cats! GO BIG BLUE!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:33 pm
#53 Sooooooooo truuuueeeee!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:35 pm
I feel as happy today about Donovan leavin as I did when we signed Patterson. He played the media and everyone else almost like Saban did.
In regards to this South American kid: if he is a pro point guard and anything like a Leandro Barbosa from the Suns that will be awesome. BCG is the f’n man. Where does he find these kids?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Hey Jai, you little turd. How does it feel now!!! Please stay at Florida. Kentucky does not need sloppy seconds. You should have followed your instinct. Anybody could see that Donovan would soon be leaving. I thought you and your pop were a saavy basketball family. By the way, what about all of the sports writers who called you one of the smartest guys in the class for delaying your decision. LOOOOOOSER!!!!!!!!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:36 pm
amen, 53
May 31st, 2007 at 10:37 pm
I don’t know how these college b-ballers do it. Practice morning, noon, & night, go to class in between & actually complete their homework. I wasn’t an athlete & still could barely manage!! Of course, I had a lot of social/fun time too….. And, I was always running into the same ones at parties, so I know they partied too! Wonder how they do it???
May 31st, 2007 at 10:38 pm
i think we now get wood
May 31st, 2007 at 10:38 pm
does anybody know the name of the south american kid, and if so I hope he isn’t a flopper like Manu
May 31st, 2007 at 10:39 pm
I seriously wish I had found this site BEFORE I paid $100 for an annual subsription to rivals. I found this site two weeks after I made that mistake. No joke.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:39 pm
I would rather have Lucas than the PG from S. A., although BG should let him coll his heels for awhile then take him, then he may realize how lucky he has it. The S. A. PG could sign with the little dookies, he would have a head start since all those guys from the soccer countries know how to flop.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:39 pm
I want these sports writers that talked about Donovan should stay and we were idiots for running off tubby and everything else they that was wrong. I cant think of one sportswriter that has said anything that has turned out to be right. When will they learn that UK will never tolerate not being on top for long and we will do whatever it takes to get on top. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not tolerating mediocrity and wanting to win every game is not unreasonable expectations. Kentucky fans are the best!! GO BIG BLUE!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:40 pm
But what will those 400 Florida basketball fans who bought tickets this past year do without an NCAA game to go to next year?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:40 pm
If I were BCG, I’d be flying to Tahiti “to check out a recruit & talk with his family”. Perhaps that’s how he found the South Am. recruit– Costa Rica, Buenos Aires…..
May 31st, 2007 at 10:40 pm
#61 YOU RIGHT ABOUT THAT, I GOT WOOD!
May 31st, 2007 at 10:41 pm
34)I hope not–I’d rather have Calathes or Parsons
May 31st, 2007 at 10:43 pm
There was a post on TCP about the rivals mods deleting and not allowing any bashing from the Cats fans towards FL. I was reading some of the replies and when I refreshed the page …. poof — the post no longer existed. Yet they allowed fl fans to bash UK. Never again will I subscribe to rivals.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:43 pm
Grant may be a great coach eventually, but it doesn’t change the fact that Florida is now a bottom-feeder capable of only hiring mid-major coaches. THAT is why they aren’t an elite program. They can’t bring in a top 10 national coach.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:44 pm
WHAT IS THE S.A. KID”S NAME???
May 31st, 2007 at 10:44 pm
My sources tell me the SA PG is named El Guapo
May 31st, 2007 at 10:45 pm
70)Yet another case of the media’s mysterious blackball on UK
May 31st, 2007 at 10:45 pm
Florida, Florida, Florida. All those fans who ripped UK for hiring away Gillispie are now going to push for THEIR school to steal a coach LATE in the process. If they were HONORABLE, they would give the job to Larry Shyatt (lol) and not STEAL another teams coach.
In your face gaytors
May 31st, 2007 at 10:46 pm
Samuels, NOT explosive. He’s eating most of those shots in D1.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:46 pm
72, why won’t anybody answer you
May 31st, 2007 at 10:46 pm
#73 Would you say El Guapo has a plethora of talent?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:47 pm
There is speculation that the SA PG is Thyago Aleo….not confirmed by Marc, but seems the best guess.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:48 pm
thanks 79
May 31st, 2007 at 10:48 pm
is grant gonna take edwards with him?
May 31st, 2007 at 10:48 pm

May 31st, 2007 at 10:53 pm
no shit 88
May 31st, 2007 at 10:53 pm
*84 - Marc thinks he’s a sure-fire 1-and-done player. Would be among the top 2007 PG’s if he played in the US. But obviously hard to judge since he didn’t play against them.
May 31st, 2007 at 10:54 pm
really now? I LOVE KENTUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!

May 31st, 2007 at 11:01 pm
I always thought Billy G would want to move Jasper to SF in order to better utilize his passing talents and rebounding ability…..The continued interest in a PG shows that for sure..

May 31st, 2007 at 11:04 pm

May 31st, 2007 at 11:05 pm

May 31st, 2007 at 11:12 pm
Where is Dr. Bob the douche bag.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:13 pm
109) Went to South America last year & while more than half speak Portuguese, plenty of them speak spanish (albeit not with the standard dialect– it is more Italian-like Spanish). Have some fun with it– no one was trying to be an asshole about it.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:14 pm
does it matter that Lebron has the same number of shot attempts as the rest of the starters combined?
May 31st, 2007 at 11:14 pm
#114 you always got my back, i appreciate it
May 31st, 2007 at 11:15 pm
Leron missed 2 crucial free throws– HOW do so many NBA players have less than an 80% free throw average? geezzzz
May 31st, 2007 at 11:16 pm
I made 23 free throws in a row last weekend! I didnt have anyone watching me though screaming at me!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:16 pm
No worries– I’m sure you’ll need to get mine sooner or later! LOL I happen to looooove your wildcat enthuisiasm! I’ll bet you’re fun to watch games with!

Hey 107…does that offer ever go for Western Kentucky?
May 31st, 2007 at 11:20 pm
WHY would I go to western KY? LOL Sorry– I’m saving myself for Billy Clyde!!!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:21 pm
#119 you are the greatest! I have two favorite experiences from the UK games I went to see while I was at school there. I was yelled at by the refs to shut up at the 95 louisville game that was sweet! we were getting on samaki walker hard because there was some sort of controversy with him and a car dealership. At a moorehead state game I was yelled at by other UK fans for being too loud! I was screaming trying to get everyone riled up doing chants and they said I was too loud for a morehead state game! you can never be too loud. GO BIG BLUE!!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:21 pm
Good move for Billy D. he’s got the bucks, gets to live in the sunshine state, and the Magic are a player or two away from being something to deal with in the east, don’t guess he’s such a dumbass after all. I wondered what was going on when he turned us down, now I know. Andy Katz, Dick Vitale, etc. should know this is just part of the business I would like to see someone offer one of those two clowns 6 million a year, bottom line is most of us are a little greedy and in the end were going to do what’s best for us.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:22 pm
You guys saying how Pelphrey is probably unhappy at ARKANSAS don’t know squat about BASKETBALL! Outside of UK in the SEC, ARKANSAS has the BEST and MOST PASSIONATE FANS by a LONG SHOT! It is true they haven’t done as well of late, but the FAN BASE and TRADITION is THERE! Pelphrey will be very successful in HOG Country! FLORIDA will NEVER be better than it is right now!!! We will see how this will play out! Look for Arkansas and MISS to rise in the WEST to compete with LSU!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:25 pm
#124 I agree with you completely I hope Pelphrey does well there those fans are crazy, sat in the Arkansas section for the ‘95 Sec tourney
May 31st, 2007 at 11:25 pm
WTF? I hate people who go to games & don’t cheer. Its pathetic. I can be one of those loud people too! I used to sneak into games on my older sister’s college id (they didn’t have the scan ids & she got a duplicate made) when Pitino was coach– I had a HIGE crush on Jeff Brassow. I lost some interest in the games when Tub was coach, so I didn’t go to near as many games then, but I went to my fair share!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:26 pm
does this kid play like manu?
May 31st, 2007 at 11:26 pm
121…This is a lovely part of the world. I moved here long ago and love it. Beats Illinois and the flat topography.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:28 pm
81..Cards are hitting again?
May 31st, 2007 at 11:28 pm
* huge– that should be huge, not hige
May 31st, 2007 at 11:29 pm
Brassow was great seemed like he was there forever. seemed like he was one of the untouchables class but was still there for the 94 LSU game when he that 30 footer to bring us within 4 I knew we were going to win it.
May 31st, 2007 at 11:31 pm
I know- there’s not a more beautiful state than Kentucky. I spent all but 4 years in my life there. Its a great place! I’ll always be a Kentucky girl at heart–just give me a slawburger, fries & a bottle of ski or how about take me down to muhlenberg county….
May 31st, 2007 at 11:32 pm

#133 sounds great! please tell me Billy G. visited him on the same day he saw Lucas, Patterson and went to a game in Houston. He is not a good recruiter unless he went to Brazil on the same day as he met with Patterson. GO BIG BLUE!!

I like Lebron when he is NOT playing the Pistons so I can criticize him now if i want to.
Not one other Cav has taken a shot since 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter and I was a pretty good shooter in my intermural league, i could score 39 points too if I took 29 shots!! OK OK I know he is good I just want the pistons to win!
May 31st, 2007 at 11:43 pm

The Cavs looked good– but I don’t think they could beat the Spurs. However, I DO think that the Pistons could. I’m a Lebron fan, but I love my ToothPick Tay! ToothPick has Tay’s initials in it– cooincidence? I think not. LOL

Clint Jackson over at the UNC Rivals site talked directly to Samardo Samuels tonight and will have a article out on him in the morning June 1, 2007. This is what he told Jackson over the phone.
I got the coveted 6-8 PF/C on the horn tonight. Asked him about ten questions, I’ll work on an article and have it to Adam by the morning.
UNC fans will be happy, but this thing isn’t over. Louisville visit next Friday. UConn is still strong. He actually said some kind things about Rutgers as well. I asked him about Kentucky’s involvement, his response?
“I haven’t really talked with anybody from Kentucky. Not much going on with that.”
Not trying to say that UK won’t make a valiant effort, because I think their new coach has shown with Patrick Patterson that he can certainly get the job done on the recruiting trail. But Samuels wasn’t inline with the hot rumblings on the Internet tonight.
Also this is what the exact words his quardian told Dave Telep about Kentucky.
The race for the nation’s top-ranked center prospect is in full swing. Samardo Samuels, a 6-foot-8 standout from Montego Bay by way of St. Benedicts Prep, remains one of the most heavily recruited players in America.
Who’s in there? North Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, Louisville, St. John’s, Rutgers and Seton Hall. Who’s trying hard? Kentucky.
“Kentucky has made a late push,” Steve Johnston, Samuels guardian and Vice President of Jamaica Basketball Development, Inc told Scout.com. “They’ve contacted us. Coach Cox contacted me and I’ve had some conversations with Coach Gillispie. It’s Kentucky and it’s not a school to be ignored.”
However, it could be too late to make a serious dent into what is an established recruitment.
The situation could go one of two ways. Samuels, who is scheduled to visit Louisville unofficially June 8-10, could decide within the next month. The big man could also opt to wait until the fall to make his choice.
Basically, after the Louisville trip Samuels will have seen all of the schools on his list. There are no further plans to make unofficial visits. Theoretically the homework, once the visit is completed, will have been done and it’ll be an issue of comfort for Samuels at that point.
June 1st, 2007 at 12:23 am
too tired to read all that but i got the idea from “havent really taked with anybody from Kentucky.”
June 1st, 2007 at 12:26 am
have a good night everyone. heading to the house where I am still not able to post on here. Have no idea why. GO BIG BLUE!!!
June 1st, 2007 at 12:31 am
1st…You guys got the wrong South American player…..
2nd…Samardo has NOT spoken to Uk yet. He’s called UK twice, but Uk has not been able to take the call. I spoke to Clint a few minutes ago…he certainly understands. The kid may or may not come to UK, but to think that Uk is not a player simply because UK and Samardo have not yet spoken in person is just naive….recruiting is about more than the kid and the coach.

Hey Marc is the SA player Matias Nocedal, the 6′3 PG from Argentina?
June 1st, 2007 at 1:10 am
cock-a-doodle-doo mark
June 1st, 2007 at 1:14 am
first of all, I’ve NEVER said there was a Brazilian player…I said there was a South American PG….
Second, don’t give me any crap about “tell us all or nothing”. I tell you as much as I can without putting UK’s chances to be successful at risk. If it comes down to one of you whining about not knowing every freaking detail or UK’s interests being put at risk….I choose UK every day of the week.
No, Samuels is NOT a UK lean right now. Samuels has yet to talk to Billy G. If things go a certain way, UK will get Samuels, if they don’t…Samuels will not even have UK on his radar most likely.
mm

June 1st, 2007 at 1:23 am
Why’s that Bob? Planning to give them a hernia exam.
June 1st, 2007 at 1:24 am
Marc how is telling us the name of the player hurt UK’s chances??? Is he going to here that his name being brought up and is
going to scare him off…I appreciate the work you do…but not getting your logic at all on that…
June 1st, 2007 at 1:26 am
Just like Donovan will never leave Florida, right Bob?
June 1st, 2007 at 1:28 am
#206 it not a player, it a coach
June 1st, 2007 at 1:28 am
Micah,
Sorry that you don’t get the logic…but it’s sound. For one thing, when deals are being done, there are often people involved that need things kept quiet. If word gets out that a certain kid is heading to UK, other interested parties could move to block the move. Other people who had not thought to exert influence may get the idea…there are MANY reasons to keep names quiet.
mm
June 1st, 2007 at 1:29 am
Marc - thanks for the continuing tidbits. Always good to hear UK is in on great talent. Should be interesting to see how things develop if Jai comes calling, though.
Just in case anyone is still thinking it could fall through, the Gainesville Sun is reporting that Florida AD Foley has confirmed it.
Also, notes that Foley won’t consider releasing anyone from LOI until talking to new coach. (199. Dr Bob - you’re full of it. Any school that does that will find itself with unhappy players and a hell of a black sheep to gloss over on recruiting trips. If anyone doesn’t want to play under Grant, they’ll let them go, and they won’t get to say where. If they try otherwise, they’ll see a lot of Top 150 players going everywhere but Gainesville over the next 3-5 years, particularly if Grant struggles and there’s a chance of another coaching change.)
Odds are it will be VCU’s Anthony Grant, who Foley has already asked to speak to (who Marc said held a meeting with his coaches tonight, I think).
Here’s to a great career for Grant at UF that helps keep the SEC strong, but sees him always losing to UK, on the hardwood and the recruiting trail.
Check the Internets tomorrow at 11am for the Donovan announcement, and we can probably expect Grant to be introduced by Tuesday (just my guess).
Also, saw somewhere that Calathes has said he’ll stay at UF if Grant is the coach. Don’t know if that’s heresay or a quote, though.
June 1st, 2007 at 1:30 am
dude micah are you micah harley lol and i get what your sayin marc kinda liket he whole deal with beas hamga everyone found out and they started goin after him and it hurt uks chances
Timmy Riddle
June 1st, 2007 at 1:30 am
209) Not to mention the obsessed fans who will try to contact the players, and in doing so, potentially violate NCAA rules and possibly even alienate the player personally, or people close to them.
As you have tried to tell people countless times over the last month with the Hamga situation.
June 1st, 2007 at 1:30 am
Han dude i love you to lol do you have MSN?
June 1st, 2007 at 1:34 am
Marc is it are 3 coach
June 1st, 2007 at 1:36 am
Marc,
With what you gave us though if a team wanted to go do that, then all they need to do is make a few calls to the best players in South America who are old enough to be eligible for the draft who is not qualified yet for college. If UK can find this guy surely others can too especially with the tip.
To me if this is something that is suppose to be so hush hush that not even a name can be given then nothing should be said about it at all…this how things get leaked early, starting off just telling a little bit points others in the right direction and before you know it, the cat is out of the bag before it is suppose to be…just my thought.
Is there any time line on when we will know anything new? Any dates when he is taking the test or anything?
June 1st, 2007 at 1:37 am
Nope. AIM.
Gotta go to bed now, anyhow, so in no mood for IMs I can’t help but answer.
Is anyone else really enjoying the comments already springing up at CBSSportsline and elsewhere from Florida fans bashing Donovan for stringing them along and going pro? Some of them are also bashing him for using UK against them to get money, then not even signing.
I know it’s bad form to mock them, but it’s just so nice to see them eating it after saying all the same crap to us 2 months ago.
Good luck, UF fans, maintaining the momentum you just lost. If you have any hope of surviving as an elite basketball program, you need to do what UK fans do - support your program just as much as always, because the moment your support lessens, the program will start spending less money, become less attractive, and fall back to the bottom of the SEC.
Right now, though, just pray that your new coach can sweet-talk all your recruits into staying, even though the NBA-talent coaching Donovan just bailed on them all.
Oh, and you better also pray Al Gore is wrong, because if the world really is getting warmer, Kentucky’s gonna be as nice as Florida before long.
June 1st, 2007 at 1:38 am
it are 3 coach Billy G needs to get, micah
June 1st, 2007 at 1:40 am
haha hell yea han
June 1st, 2007 at 1:42 am
No my last name is Pearson. As for Hamga…Hamga didnt go to UK by far more because of his coaches not being high on UK.
The whole facebook drama with that was just used as an example of how leaving comments can actually hurt our chances. Rather
that is true various per recruit, I know Marshal Moses and Lucas have both commented on how the passionate fan base leaving
them messages was a plus. Either way I am against it because it can be a violation…but it was not the key reason Hamga went
to UNLV.

I think Marc think it a ast coach, for Samardo!
June 1st, 2007 at 1:51 am
222) The third asst coach is the reason why UK will all of a sudden be in the picture? Makes sense. Didnt pan out for the
2nd asst with Lucas…hope it works out better for us…either way UK has lots of options…which is a great feeling to have…

billy d to duke in 8 years. I will bet money on it
June 1st, 2007 at 2:07 am
231) A caller on The Zone was saying how Billy D to Louisville in five years when Pitino retires…Matt laughed at him for even
thinking that far down the line. Billy seems to love the state, my guess is he will be done whenever he leaves the NBA.
June 1st, 2007 at 2:18 am
230….I wouldn’t be surprised!
June 1st, 2007 at 2:20 am
221) Like I bother with MySpace or Facebook.
I’m not pretending to be a student. I already graduated.
I do think that we may end up with Jai as a Cat, unless we find out tomorrow the mystery South American kid is on his way here.
I leave it in the hands of our coach, though. He knows what he still wants for his team next year, and whether any available players are worth a 4-year scholarship when there’s so much talent considering us in 08.
230) Wouldn’t that be an odd story to see. Hopefully it will be overlooked by the celebration for UK’s 8th consecutive (and 15th overall) championship.
Also, 3 people will be killed that day when flying cars land on them. The daily death toll from flying car parking mishaps will be high for a while, but eventually, people will get used to vertical parking and there’ll be a lot fewer accidents.
Just so long as we’re making crazy long-term predictions.
June 1st, 2007 at 2:25 am
Now we’ll see if Florida truly is an elite basketball program, or a flash in the pan. In 1998, Uk had to replace Anderson, Epps, Mercer and a head coach who’d just been to back to back championship games. Of course, Uk went on to win the 98 title with a new coach. With rabid fan support, and a solid foundation, the UK basketball program survived. No player or coach is above the UK program.
It will be interesting to see how Florida handles this loss. Personally, I don’t think they have the support for their basketball program to recover. Last year they had a national championship team ranked among the top 5 all year, and yet they only managed three sell outs in an arena half the size of Rupp. In contrast, Rupp was bursting its rafters for Uk’s first practice.
I really hope they can pull through this and remain a national power. A strong Florida and a strong SEC can only benefit UK. But the sad fact is, when people one day recall the Florida basketball program’s elite history, they will be limited to one team.
I think Donovan knew he had a very special team, and that type of talent and chemistry wasn’t likely to come around again for a long time. He was smart to leave for the NBA while the opportunity was there.
June 1st, 2007 at 2:31 am
233) As for Jai, I would rather have the South American just because he would not get even close to as much grief as Lucas would….if Lucas isnt a baller from day one he will be giving so much heck…the south american guy struggles…everyone will just be like…well i
guess he isnt one and done…but he will get a whole lot more slack then Lucas. That being said if the South American
tradition “foreign mystery recruit” that seems to be there every year…doesnt pan out I would take Lucas. Not a fan of the
opinion “You chose Florida we don’t want you then…” Remember we wanted Billy D too, and plenty of guys chose other schools
first: Legion, Crawford, Sparks, Ford, Anderson, etc.
I wouldnt mind seeing teams actually putting up banners and celebrating 2nd place because 1st is a guarantee for UK
every year and people start talking about how many 2nd place finishes they have…with more and more talent in college and
the spread of recruits the days of complete domination like UCLA did are probably over…nice dream never the less…
Well time for bed, my wife is probably wondering what I am doing I usually am bed a few hours ago…goodnight!
Go Cats!
June 1st, 2007 at 2:38 am
haha peace out micah and i agree 100%

Lucas to ‘re-evaluate’ playing for Florida
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4853144.html
June 1st, 2007 at 6:24 am
AH my only prediction this year that will come true…that Billy D will NEVER beat UK again..and I did not say FLA would never…(check out when we first found out he wasn’t coming here…was the only thing I could think of to say!!)I am sorry Billy C G never gets the chance to smash him!!!
June 1st, 2007 at 6:42 am
Obsessed with Florida?
That’s what some at Gator Gate, uh, I mean Gator Bait think. Really! Now we know why Mitch Barnhart never made an over to ole Billy D. The first question was if Billy D. had asperations of going to the pro’s. When Billy said yes, meeting was adjourned. Good Billy D., you’re going to need it. After all, do you think pro-players will listen to you in practice? Not a chance….
Besides, Anthony Grant will be a great coach at UF. His style will be making them say Billy who?
June 1st, 2007 at 7:11 am
240) Yep..Billy Poo–
June 1st, 2007 at 7:32 am
I want to revel in one moment of immature taunting and then we can return to serious discussion…
To all Florida fans:
Na-na na-na-na na. Ha-ha ha-ha-ha ha.
Oh yeah, this program will take Jai Lucas if he seeks to transfer. Probably Tyus, too. If they choose to stay at UF, that is no sweat off our backs. Hopefully a good hire is made so the SEC remains the best league in the NCAA.
June 1st, 2007 at 7:41 am
I’m sure anthony grant will be a fine replacement for billy d. however, the sheer fact this is upsetting gator nation is enough to put a big fat blue grin on my face.

June 1st, 2007 at 8:54 am
you know it is absolutely sickening to read the articles on espn and cbssportsline about donovan. kissy kissy to donovan. What a great move, what a wonderful decision. blah blah blah.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:08 am
I’m hearing Lon Kruger, Teddy Dupay, and David Hobbs are at the top of the Florida wish list.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:25 am
Patterson to UK?
Donovan to Orlando?
June 1st, 2007 at 9:26 am
I “BET” Teddy Dupay will be the new coach at UF. HAHA
June 1st, 2007 at 9:28 am
What about Matias Nocedal, he played against this Theo character recently and apparently DOMINATED him?
June 1st, 2007 at 9:38 am
I think Billy D will be a success in the NBA. He is not a clone of Pitino. He takes what he needs and discards what doesn’t work. Hence, he repeated where his mentor could not. He will have learned from Pitinos mistakes.
I have no hate for Billy D. It wasn’t his fault that Tubby sat on his duff and allowed UK to weaken to the point that UF dominated us for two and a half years. That was Smiths fault. Sorry ass that he was. Now he will sink the Golden Gophers further into the muck and mire. lol
June 1st, 2007 at 9:45 am
Marc Maggerd -Ignore these idiots giving you crap and questioning your logic on secrecy. Thanks for anything you can give us and anyone who does not understand why you have to be descrete obviously has no brain.
June 1st, 2007 at 9:57 am
I think Billy D is going to flop in the pros. A lot of strengthes won’t translate well to the NBA. He has always been a pretty subpar bench coach (until Shyatt showed up) and had trouble with unmotivated difficult players. Look for Orlando to make a run at Kobe..although Kobe won’t be interested due to the “major market” clause in his shoe contract…..

NBA coach doesn’t make a bit of difference. Its the front office and their willingness to shell out cash for great players. I could have coached the Bulls and Lakers a few years back to a championship.

Just a thoguht on Billy G..when Coach Clyde becomes successful and wins championships at UK, I believe he will not be tempted by the NBA like Donovan..Gillispie is a basketball junkie and with the short time he has been at UK, he has shown that he REALLY enjoys the recruiting aspect of the college game..he loves watching high school games and AAU games and has a good relationship with the coaches on that level..if he considered the NBA ever, he would give up that aspect of the game..there is no recruiting in the NBA..you worry more about players egos and minutes instead of trying to determine if a sophmore in high school is going to be good enough to play at the D1 level..I think Gillispie will be around a long time.

OK, on the subject of Samuels. Listen up. UK has NO CHANCE. QUIT DREAMING. Maggard, do your research. He was quoted as saying they contacted him. OOOOOH!!! Yeah, they’re definitely a PLAYER!!! If they were in on him from the beginning, then they might have a chance. But you guys think that since your UK, you can get anybody. You can’t. (Donovan, the Hamga kid…..). UK is coming on too late and a reporter from NC’s rivals site interviewed SAMUELS PERSONALLY and he said not much is going on with UK. He is narrowing it down and sticking to his 3 schools he is actually interested in: the Tar Heels, UConn, and Louisville. You think Gillespie can outrecruit these guys this late from a Jersey kid??? Get a clue. Here is the headline on scout about samuels from May 29: “Many try to get involved but Samuels remains loyal.” One key word: MANY. As in not just UK, but others as well. Other key word: Loyal. Florida was never a big player, and now that Donovan is gone, they are NOT a player. Samuels to UNC or Louisville, 2 schools who he is ACTUALLY visiting. The kid hasn’t even talked to UK, has expressed basically no interest when asked about it, and you think you guyas are a player. Wow, you sound credible.

I agree with 255. I don’t know if any of that research he said is true, but UK is not going to outrecruit Calhoun, Pitino, and Williams for a kid from the North, and a kid they have been on for quite a while. Samuels is already narrowing his choices and visiting his favorite schools. He has his list made up. UK will make no impact, esp. this late. If by saying UK is a “major player,” you mean that Gillispie has tried contacting him, then I would agree. So have many others, all higher on his list than UK. The kids most likely a future UNC player, unless UofL can get Tyreke Evans to commit earlier than expected, then he will go to UofL (of course, tomorrow, Maggard will be saying UK is a major player in Evans recruitment). Then after that, UCONN. If those three don’t work out, then on down the LONG list, a list that UK is a the bottom of.

Donovan has known he would be the coach at Orlando since
the end of the regular season. Does anyone have a more
logical reason for his not signing his contract with UF?
He’s a smart kid, obviously too smart for UF. He has made
UF look very foolish. He has also made ESPN and their bin
of raving morons look even more foolish (if that is possible)!
