Two Names To Watch For In The Future

by @ 8:30 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Just when you thought all of your “how do we pronounce that name” days were over at UK, there’s two more names from overseas for you to watch out for: Enes Kanter (pictured left) from Turkey and Rob Loe of New Zealand.

Enes Kanter is originally from Switzerland and, surprisingly, passed on a couple of multi-million dollar pro offers overseas to come take over the US and play for reknowned Findlay Prep. The 6′9″ big man, who will be in the class of 2010, is regarded as the top pro-prospect in Turkey and won MVP honors during the 18U European Championships, while averaging 18 points and 16 rebounds a game. “He can defend the five, but he’s mobile and goes hard. He can REALLY rebound it,” said Findlay head man Michael Peck. “We’re just really excited to have him.” Evan Daniels of Scout.com, who broke the news of Kanter’s stateside arrival earlier today, had this to say about Kanter’s game: “Kanter’s best attribute is his rebounding. He pursues the ball aggressively and is a terrific addition to an already loaded squad at Findlay.” Top division one schools are already phoning in and you can expect UK to show some interest as well.

Rob Loe is from New Zealand and will be playing for another reknowned US program, IMG Academy. Due to academic calendars not matching up well, he’ll enroll there in December and still has some NCAA hurdles to overcome. Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Washington State and Colorado are getting involved early. According to IMG Coach Dan Barto, this is what you can expect to see out of Loe: “If you wanted to make an NBA comparison, Brad Miller in his prime. He’s that kind of player. Shoots it, trails the play, gets to the basket. Good enough back to basket with finesse moves.” Barto says that Loe will work on speeding up his game and improving his body when he gets to IMG, but major programs are already impressed with his skill set.

Both of these kids will be working on their recruitment this coming year and scheduling visits for the fall, making them a couple of names for UK fans to watch out for. Kanter will be getting more involved with that process sooner, being that he is already in the States, but Loe is sure to be soon to follow.
