The Big Blue Nation has done it again. Through undying determination to win every internet poll ever created, Kentucky fans have dominated yet another one, as Rupp Arena crushed the field to be crowned the top venue in college basketball. The home of the Wildcats tallied 174 first-place votes, more than quintupling Allen Fieldhouse’s 32 to take home top honors. Rupp may not have been the toughest place to get a win over the last couple of years (unless you’re Billy Gillispie) but with the fanbase’s passion at a fever pitch and the excitement around the program almost boiling over, that’s due to change. I have a feeling that after North Carolina and Louisville visit Rupp this season, they’ll have no problem with the way the voting turned out. The return of the magic to Rupp Arena…just another example of how Coach Calipari is bringing us back to the top. Is it basketball season yet?

I am completely UK blue through and through. BUT, over the years the blue hairs and lack of people standing up and cheering when neccessary at Rupp has truly bothered me. This year I feel will be totally different. And for that I am excited. However, I must say, I have been to Allen Fieldhouse, unfortunately to watch the the undaunting Tubby stare while the Cats got throttled, and I can tell you that place is awesome for a college basketball game. The KU chants are ominous and impressive to witness. You can walk right onto the floor before the game and literally slap five with the players. It truly is an impressive building and since we outnumber KU fans nationally, I think we won this (and every) poll. But you have to give credit where credit is due. If KU’s gym were here in Lex, and a lot bigger, it would easily beat Rupp as far as environment goes. Oh, and First!

I’m sorry, but even at it’s existing size & location (Lawrence) Fog Allen beats the crap out of Rupp every day of the week (twice on Sunday). Don’t get me wrong, I live & die w/ UK basketball, but Rupp is simply cavernous & the lower level occupants don’t do the team any favors. There are times when Rupp can be electric, but they are few & far between. No matter who they Jayhawks play, be it UNC or Grand Valley St., you will find the Fog a-rockin’.

There is a POY poll on ESPN’s college bball page. I tried to be as realistic as possible (minimizing KY lean), but even then I had a cat @ the top.

Havn’t seen a poll that lopsided since McCain.

UConn in MSG, back to Rupp for UNC, to Assembly Hall for IU — all in a 6-7 day period in December. Talk about a test for this young crew of Cats! Should be fun.

Before you diss the bluehairs, remember their cash built this arena, contributes huge amounts of cash to hire top coaches and all the other facilities you laud….a lil’ respect is in order!

When we build that new arena, the Blue Hairs will get their new box seats and we can fill the lower arena with students.
It’ll be a double-whammy.
