Papa Brooks says not to worry, little fella

by @ 5:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions

Coach Brooks took a break from his garden to speak at the Kickoff Luncheon in Lexington, and he addressed concern over the lack of commitments for the football Cats thus far and his expectations for the team (from Brett Dawson):

“We’re into some more high-profile recruits,” Brooks said. “(We) probably have done a better job overall of evaluating and making progress on the recruiting front. Believe me, recruiting is not going to dry up for the Kentucky Wildcats.

We’re going to get good football players.“We’re going to continue to get players that are capable of competing at the SEC level. Whether it happens last week or next week or in December, I’m not that concerned about it. There’s an awful lot of good football players out there that haven’t committed to anybody at this point.”

Asked how he responds to critics who say that the Wildcats need to take a step forward after winning three straight mid-level bowls — the Music City Bowl twice and last season’s Liberty Bowl — Brooks said, “What do you think I say to them?”

“I say the same thing I’ve always said — it’s not good enough that we’ve only won three straight bowl games,” Brooks said. “We want to continue to climb the SEC ladder. And if people haven’t heard me say that, then they need to take their earplugs out.”

In other football news, Fan Day has been set for August 8th. Details at UKathletics.

I do know there are some pretty good sleeper 3 and 2 star players, like UK always gets, high on UK.

It is good to hear Brooks say they are on some high profile talent. I know of a few that are seriously considering UK but those two kids I know of I find it hard to for UK to pull them away from other certain schools right in the mix as well.

So there must be a lot more high profile recruits. I wish we knew who.

Funny thing - I did talk to a guy today who did throw out a pretty high profile name as almost a done deal for UK but the name he told me leads me to believe it is too good to be true

Stop going to club meetings and luncheons and get out and recruit.

So wait, did Brooks say he wanted the program to improve or not? I couldn’t hear very well with these earplugs in. I don’t know why I even wear them.

Being into more high-profile recruits and getting commitments from those recruits are two totally different things. Not to mention lately we’ve had good enough talent to win 4-5 SEC games imo. If we can get some consistency in the last half of the season instead of losing most of those games we would probably have some high-profile commits.

I will say it again, I like the new approach. I especially like it because I think it means the coaches think we will have a very good year, without worrying about it being coachspeak. If Hartline has a good year then we will have a very good year, if he doesn’t we will be showcasing a very talented freshman that will have some skill players wanting to play with him. We already have a OL pipeline in my opinion.

If we don’t get any four stars I still think we can sign three stars all day long, we are in the SEC and we have coaches that players want to play for because they do things the right way. Ask Burton or Woodley or numerous others why they signed with UK when they were lousy, not to mention the three that gave up millions to play one more year with them. We already have a lineup waiting, Wallace, Mellilo, Coshik, Bailey, Anderson, probably the three that didn’t make it and who else. We will sign some four stars I believe, but if we don’t we can sign three stars all day long.

Some of the threads going on now are pretty wild, sounds like the same people that wanted to run Brooks off years ago. Crazy.
