Willie Nelson’s Monday News and Views

Today is the birthday of a man we all know and love. Willie Nelson is one of the truly unique American characters of the last 50 years. Here is a guy who is something to everyone. Hardcore country people love his music, his lifestyle and his Texas roots. Crazy lefties love the fact that he is the most notable supporter of that oddball Dennis Kucinich. Religious folks love Willie’s affinity for God and his wonderful renditions of the best Christian hymns. Hippies like Willie’s affinity for the wacky tobaccy and his “me against the world.” Farmers in the Midwest love the guy for his work with Farm-Aid and his almost single-minded crusade for the poor Midwest/Southerner. Truly everyone loves Willie. My grandmother loves him….my country friends love him…..the Berkeley types I went to law school with love him…..and I think he is the best. Whether it is his almost haunting a capella renditions of “Always On My Mind” or his rockabilly take on “Whiskey River”, Willie is simply the best. Caring in his heart for all people and a unique soul that sees the good in everyone…..America needs more Willie Nelsons.

To the news….

(1) Well the weekend saw one of the quieter news times of the past few months and a sense of the “calm before the storm” for Billy Clyde as he tries to finish off the 07 class. Jai Lucas is the main event at this time as he goes through the process of having all five schools in for one last visit before he makes his decision. Billy Clyde moved back his visit from Saturday afternoon to Sunday (thus going after Gary Williams) and spent Sunday evening at the Casa de Lucas. But Billy Donovan continued his snake-like aggression, postponing his visit to Monday night so he could get the last word before the start of the dead period. Lucas has hinted that a decision may come this week and reports are all over the map as to what he might do. Some random internet reports continue with the now-tired “done deal” terminology, swearing that Lucas is committed to Kentucky and is set to announce next week. I find most of these reports to be bunk, not necessarily because of the result, but because of how they are presented. I have a very strong idea of what Jai will do, but I dont think EVEN Jai knows for sure 100%…..based on relationships made during the process, when the story breaks I expect it to come from either this site, Dave Telep or Jerry Meyer….only then will I believe it is done. Until then, the Big Blue Nation collectively waits….

(2) More news came out this weekend from an Indiana web site about big man Beas Hamga. As Marc Maggard first reported here last week, Beaz is a real possibility for 2007 and he acknowledged as much to the Indiana site, saying that he was looking at 2007 and that Kentucky was at the forefront for his services. Hamga is a beast, a tall, athletic player who has freakish ability and room to develop. People ask me what I think of a Hamga-Legion duo instead of a Patterson-Lucas combo. While I have some affinity for Pat and Jai and think they may end up being a better college duo, it can be argued that Hamga and Legion fit better with Kentucky’s needs. We shall see, but Hamga is a real possibility.

(3) Rumors continue to circulate that Michael Sanchez will be taking some type of visit to Kentucky this weekend. Sanchez, who was compared to Christian Laettner this weekend by one of his coaches, is another player that Billy Clyde is seeking to move to 07, and convince him not to go to prep school next year. I am hearing that whatever decision Sanchez makes, he wants to make in the next two weeks, so like with Lucas, whatever happens should happen quickly.

(4) In case you missed the news last week, Phillip Jurick, a Tennessee big man who was seriously considering the Cats when Tubby was here, committed to Tennessee for the 2008 class. Billy Clyde never really got involved in this one and thus UK ceased being a player. But now UT and UK are set to do head to head battle for Chris Singleton, the big man that Marc Maggard profiled yesterday. UT has long been thought to be the leader, but UK has made a swift move and some believe the two of them have moved ahead of Indiana into the driver’s seat. A good Bruce Pearl - Billy Clyde recruiting battle…..that is what the rivalry needs

(5) The next two weeks will tell the tale of next year’s season for the Cats. Kentucky currently has two open scholarships and four offers on the table that we know of…..Lucas, Patterson, Hamga and Sanchez…Billy Clyde hopes two of those are on the roster for sure, and maybe three…..with some scholarship mojo to make room. Lucas will likely decide first and then Billy Clyde will have to decide how he wants to play the roulette…..lose Lucas and you likely arent getting Patterson, so you take Hamga and try to get Sanchez. Get Lucas and Patterson is a real option, and thus how you finesse the next two weeks will be interesting……we will let you know as it happens.

This week should be huge. We begin streaming on Tuesday, thus setting off the beginning of what we hope will be the creation of the biggest UK sports radio show anywhere. The streaming is the first step in creating a network and allowing folks anywhere to hear the show. Woo and Randolph Morris will be there for the first show on 1570 AM. Later in the week we have very special guests set up, so this should be a big, big week.

Look for an AAU report from Marc Maggard tomorrow around lunch……..should be fun!

    my first 1st??!!

  2. Anonymous Says:

    WOOO WHOOO!!

  3. crazycat91 Says:

Matt, you’ve got to get Ravi on the show with Woo. You know those guys would crack each other up.

  4. RyanInLondon Says:

wonder who the big guests will be?

  5. Daniel Says:

No mention of Josh Hancock at all?!?

  6. UKBigBlue Says:

    Last

  7. TubbyCat Says:

should make for an exciting week in the Bluegrass

  8. Dherb Says:

First time poster but a long time reader. I believe that lucas at this point
is they key to bringing in a really kick*** class. If we land him then all
the pieces will fall into place starting with patterson and hopefully followed
    by either sanchez or hamga.

  9. bcgfan Says:

thanks matt you are the best

  10. bcgfan Says:

So does your strong idea see Lucas in blue next year???

  11. Catfan9282 Says:

I have enjoyed reading this site since the Billy D drama began a few weeks ago. I too am tired of hearing the “done deal” terminology used. So many times the ppl using it are talking out their butts and misinformed. If we were to get patterson and Lucas would we have a chance at Sanchez and Hamgas next year?

  12. Dherb Says:

With all the talent that we are looking at for 08 i doubt that BCG is going
to continue to go after hamga and sanchez if they do stay in the 08 class.
This is why he wants them to join the 07 class so bad.

  13. Jon Says:

    12) Agree about sanchez, we might cool off on him if he stays in 08, but Hamga is a guy we want, as do most schools in the country. as an 08 center, he is the highest rated center not to have signed, and is rated higher than Kenny Frease, who everyone was buzzing about back when OTS was running the show. He is ranked the fourth best center in the 08 class.

  14. Anonymous Says:

I hope we land Hamga… he looks and sounds like someone who you build a championship around

  15. Dherb Says:

    13) Good point bout Hamga i was under the impression that he was more a PF.
However im glad that we may miss on most of these guys in the 07 class. If
we do get to save some schollies i believe that BCG will have us LOADED with
    talent in 08.

  16. literal larry Says:

A big, big, week could be a Hamga, Sanchez week.

  17. Glen - Houston Says:

“Whiskey River” and “Always On My Mind” are two of my favorite songs from the 70’s maybe only passed by “Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother”. Looking forward to the “live” show next week.

  18. goonies24 Says:

This is being dragged out wayyyyyyyyy too long….jai and pat have to know by now…it seems to me as if they are making it out to be a joke now, just for media sake…..i dunno, but i would love to have them but i think their minds have to be made up by now…i know its a big decision in their lives but c’mon….if they knew what i was like to wear Kentucky across their chest, and knew the passion of the fans, and just how big UK basketball is, it shouldnt take them but a week to pick us…that is if they really and truly wanted to come here…the other schools do not compare….its frustrating because of how easy of a choice it is to make, when Kentucky is giving u a chance to play for the most storied program ever….This is UK basketball and there is NOTHING bigger….

  19. goonies24 Says:

“what it was like”….sorry for the typo

  20. Oeuh Says:

I expect the dominoes to start falling this week.

  21. UKfan215 Says:

Nice words about Willie Nelson. I agree. Nearly everyone in America, regardless of politics or opinion can find something to like about the guy. There’s very few people in this country who can make that claim these days.

As far as recruiting, I am just glad we are moving into the final two weeks of this 07 class run. Regardless of which exact combination of players we get, I will just be glad to see it over. This recruiting year has just flat worn me out. But at least the end is finally in sight and we can move on to focus on UK football, the upcoming basketball season and the 2008 class.

  22. KAWildcat Says:

A few other birthdays of note…Isiah Thomas, Kirsten Dunst, and yours truly.

  23. Glen - Houston Says:

UK Basketball is never “out” of season.

  24. grateful reader Says:

    thanks for the update

    smoochy smoocky

  25. Losing Interest Says:

Please wake me when an actual recruit makes an actual decision. This “done deal” crap is getting very old. I appreciate Matt’s wait and see approach rather than stirring up a really slow weekend with shaky reports just to stir everyone up.

  26. BerkeleyCat Says:

    25) agree

  27. bcgobsession Says:

Its FINALLY coming to a close– we should have some answers coming very soon!!!!! Hooorahhhh! Just a little more patience– which I never have anyway. Shouldn’t we get rewarded for having so much patience???? I agree that if Lucas were to sign with UK, then we’d likely end up with PP too. It would be fantastic to land Beas Hamga in the midst of this too. I totally see a final four run in the near future if we were to lnad all this added talent. I’d say a National championship, but I don’t want to jinx us….

    GO CATS!

  28. SoCal Will Says:

Hey, we all love our Willie! “That’s
    what makes the jukebox play….”

  29. The Kid Stuck In Haggin Hall Says:

i cant wait for jai to say “well i feel like ill eliminate 3 schools and we will have the final cut for teams and another round of interviews… i promise, last time..” then he cuts it to two… then he adds a third team back on… then decides in august..

  30. TommyT46 Says:

MATT…What time is the show aired? And is it the same time everyday? …Also just read an interesting article on Marc’s site on his take on Jai and PP…Thanks and keep up the great work

  31. Crow Says:

Re: Lucas and Patterson taking forever: Billy D strung UK along in much the same fashion. If he were pulling the strings for those two, this is the way he would do it.

  32. Barney Says:

    New Mexico looking at Hamga
    http://www.abqtrib.com/news/2007/apr/25/unm-mens-basketball-signee-hob son-recruits-friends/

  33. Crow Says:

The site that reported Patterson verballed to UK is chock full ‘o lime green wannabe snot nosed idiots. I hope they enjoyed their 15 minutes. I’ve seen $5.00 Rolex watches in Tijuana with more credibility. Their “expert” is hilarous. He’d say something like “Jai Lucas is going to Maryland according to my source 100%” then somebody would point out that Maryland just used their last scholarship then he’d move on to his next trial balloon. The guy had Hamgas as a lock for Memphis. LOL.

  34. David Says:

With our current roster, Lucas is the real key to the future. We need a true PG to ignite all we do. He will be a leader. I believe he signs with UK before the week is done.
We don’t need Sanchez. Hope PP signs with us as well. Hamga would be HUGE!
Let’s all be patient … and don’t complain about players waiting to make a decision. They are within the rules so we need to chill! They are under no obligation to make a quicker decision than they want just because we can’t wait for Christmas morning……… BCG will see to it that this isn’t a problem in the future.

  35. Macon_Volfan Says:

I really think Singleton goes to UT simply because Pearl has been recruiting him longer. UK will give him something to think about, but I look for him to wear the orange and white in a few years!!

  36. PatMan Says:

    5) Besides having blue blood, I’m from western KY and I’m also a huge St. Louis Cardinals. The loss of Josh Hancock is very, very sad. You just don’t expect something like that to happen.

  37. Livestreaming Says:

I hope I don’t crash your site on Tuesday! I’ve waited sooooo long!

  38. Gilligan Says:

Your self loathing never fails to amaze.

  39. Cat Toe Says:

If I were these kids I would have waited too. Half of the guys that recruited PP left for another job. You can’t blame the kids for looking out for #1. That is what the coaches did.

  40. C1180 Says:

    I have a source
    Of course of course
That say PP and JL a done Deal
If only that source was for real
The bells would begin to peal
Ceebration could commence with great zeal

  41. Billy G Says:

dont bet the rocky top on it #35

  42. Lujo Says:

You forgot that environmentalists love Willie (Nelson, that is) because of his “Bio-Willie” bio-diesel company in the Southwest!

  43. adaircam4 Says:

#36..I hate the Cardinals with a passion (Reds fan), but when I heard the news yesterday about Hancock,
I was shocked..you obviously hate to hear anything like that and for that organization to have lost 2 players in the past 5 years, you have to feel for them..it will be very difficult for them to play tonight against the Brewers, so just for tonight, I am a Cardinals fan.

  44. Beatle Bum Says:

In other words, the short version would read: “Nothing new.”

A lot of words, but nothing new.

    ;o)

  45. Chris Hansen Says:

Why are you so interested in the lives of underage young men?

  46. UKCatnNC Says:

Matt; thank you for the updates. I would really like to see us get all four. - I wish we had the scholarships!

I have been a fan of Willie Nelson since the early 80s and I often listen to his music. I had the wonderful luck to sit next to him on a plane ride from Houston to Raleigh in 1997. He truly is a very nice person who easy to talk with, and was humble and gracious to everyone who wanted his autograph and their picture taken with him. He autographed the book I was reading, “Golf is not a game of perfect.” It sits on my top book shelf next to other autographed books, such as “The Big Blue Machine”, autographed by Coach Adolf Rupp, Cawood Ledford, Joe B. Hall, Russel Rice (author) and others; and, “Life as I have known it is finger-lickin good”, autographed by Col. Harland Sanders. Thanks bor reminding me of the really nice plane ride. Willie is a ture American!

  47. UKCatnNC Says:

Sorry about the typos. I wanted to see your updates before I left for my first meeting this morning. Have a great day.

  48. theOtherside (Catlanta) Says:

Billy G is at Cherokee High School recruiting Chris Singleton?

  49. theOtherside (Catlanta) Says:

That would be Georgia, sorry. Also it was told by the softball coach Mike Gianfalla.

  50. monron Says:

I like Billy Clyde! So do others!

  51. RondoStoleMyName Says:

If the show is going streaming and you want it to be the widest reaching UK sports show around then you are going to have to quit cowtailing to all the Card fans that call in on thelocal broadcast. UL already has the Afternoon Homers, The Card Sports reveiw, Card Chronicles, etc.. Let Lochlan handle the middle of the road and the Sports Mob needs to be UK all the way. You know the Card fans will still listen just like all the Libs listen to Rush. But if I were in Paducah and pulled up the streaming and had to listen to some Cards banter I would shut it down. So how do you see the show material going forward considering the new streaming feature?

  52. monron Says:

    But not a smart a$$!

  53. anonymous Says:

I wonder why he didn’t answer his phone last night.

  54. UKLS Says:

50- This isnt a professional site, Matt’s said that before.

No way New Mexico lands Hamga, who are they kidding? If he doesn’t reclassify for us or IU for 07, there are several elite programs (including UK) looking at him for 08. New Mexico is a basketball wannabe, they have less than no shot.

  55. UKLS Says:

54 is right Matt. No Cards talk, ever, unless it’s ridicule. Louisville has plenty of homer radio shows already.

  56. V-in-K Says:

62)Oh pleeeeeeze (laughing too hard at ya)

  57. anonymous Says:

ok 64. Did you mean you won’t be laughhing later.

  58. anonymous Says:

    I meant laughing.

  59. V-in-K Says:

geez nasty monday eh fellas? Enjoy life a little..

  60. Kia Rondo Says:

Matt, Beas Hamga is spelled with an s, although it sounds like a z when you pronounce it.

  61. monron Says:

    #68 False teeth don’t count!

Smart A$$! Dumb A$$ How do you do it Drew! Most people are either one or the other!
Stop and Go look in the mirror! You are special!

Better yet take a picture then when you get confused you can take it out a look at it!
    What am I today? Smart—Dumb a$$!

  62. Big Bad Bob Says:

I agree with 61. Who thinks Drew is Bi-Polar?

  63. Loserville Ass Clown Says:

    Louisville is da’ bomb!

  64. V-in-K Says:

I like Bee-Az myself…I do hope he likes us as well. Seems like a big man who could do big things at UK!(not as much a project as some)

  65. Hancock Says:

I am o over this whole Lucas/Patterson deal. When they do say where they are going, they had better play up to all the hype
that they have created for themselves.

  66. RumorHasIt Says:

Patterson and Lucas will announce to Florida this week.

  67. Jai Lucas Says:

I ain’t talking until Patrick says I can!

  68. demoCrAT Says:

It must really urk Louisville fans that a Louisville based radio program concentrates on UK sports.

  69. tls Says:

Hamga would appear to me to be the one guy who would impact UK the most next year. After that PP and after that Jai. The unknown is Jared Carter .. If he could contribute that list might change a bit .. And Jai Lucas could make Carter better. It’s quite a crapshoot but I still believe BC’s interest in JL is highly PP related.

  70. Stammy Says:

So with streaming will it be available afterwards by chance? Would love to listen to the next day while at work. (We are never satisfied are we?)

  71. kyjim Says:

Matt when can we expect to here the lucas decision

  72. demoCrAT Says:

Jared Carter will never be a contributor. His best move would be to return to Georgetown College and play for Happy Osbourne. He’s not D1 material.

  73. Anonymous Says:

C’mon, Carter has never had a chance. Let him play in 15-20 games and then see how he does.

  74. demoCrAT Says:

    I’m 6′3″ and I believe I could push Carter around. Being 7′0″ doesn’t make you D1 material.

  75. adaircam4 Says:

Carter is an unknown..I am not too high on him, but he seems to have good hands but lacks footwork..Hopefully he will be able to contribute, but to me he will be a guy who averages 8ppg, 6rpg, 2bpg at best..not major #’s but at least he can contribute defensively and help on the boards some.

  76. Bearcat24 Says:

Article on Rivals today about Hamga…he mentions 5 schools and says that UK is currently his favorite and that he has qualifying SAT scores and is going to try to graduate early. Sounds more than promising.

  77. V-in-K Says:

Mr. Beas Hamga…come on down and wear the blue…along with Mr. Legion…(and if Pat and Jai come..Partytime)

  78. Anonymous Says:

hey adaircam4, where are you from

  79. demoCrAT Says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJYkcPAf0VU&NR=1

  80. demoCrAT Says:

Legion is Rondo, but he can shoot. MAD HOPS!

  81. J from the Real Ville Says:

If we get any three of these four players next year, and Darius Miller the next year, you can bet oon a NC run for sure.

  82. J from the Real Ville Says:

Won’t it be awesome to watch someone play for UK that can probably block shoHamgas)ts better than Andre Riddick.(

  83. J from the Real Ville Says:

    shots better than Andre Riddick.(Hamgas)

  84. J from the Real Ville Says:

    I haven’t been so excited since 1998

  85. Knowledge Says:

Expect the Lucas to UK news to leak tomorrow evening …

  86. J from the Real Ville Says:

So it’s a done deal. LOL

  87. mateotemprano Says:

    kucinich an oddball?

well maybe, but at least he hasn’t shot anyone in the face recently like that old ghoul cheney, who he is trying to impeach by the way.

but this is not a political blog, right.

willie also has his own brand of “biodiesel”– a plant based diesel fuel that burns much cleaner than petro-diesel.

    and go cats.

  88. anonymous Says:

Can someone tell me what the hamga article is about on tcp.

  89. Thegiantawakes Says:

^ Hamga is fully qualified for 2007 and Kentucky leads according to the article.

  90. anonymous Says:

    Thanks.

  91. demoCrAT Says:

Hamga # 21 in the video–for those of you who havenet seen him

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVMvtk5S3jI

  92. Jared Bonshire Says:

Anyone who cries done deal before they have spoken with the subject of said done deal is retarded.

And I stand by that statement.

    And I resemble that statement.

    And Jesus saves.

  93. J from the Real Ville Says:

#92 So basically you’re saying its a done deal.

  94. Captain Obvious Says:

    i am OD

  95. BigJHagan Says:

I just wonder if Billy G already has a plan ready to initiate to free another scholarship if necessary. Could you imagine a
recruiting class with Alex Legion, Jai Lucas, Patterson, & Hamga. I would figuratively give me soul to see that!!

  96. 1kyfan Says:

I just read over on the kentucky.com forum that UK offered another 2008 recruit….

    “Billy Clyde NEVER stops!!!!!!!

He’s now offered Tony Woods (4 star) 6′11″ 225 lb Center from Rome GA!!!!!!!!

** I forgot to add he’s for the Class of 2008″

    http://forums.kentucky.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=kr-uksportsky&msg=2 8414.1&maxT=6

  97. 1kyfan Says:

    Anyone else heard about this?

  98. UKWildcat831 Says:

    yea 97…

    http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=668431

  99. Loserville Ass Clown Says:

Right there it is. What more do you want? Oh yeah, Lucas and Patterson to UK. It’s a done deal!

  100. Captain Obvious Says:

    i eat rabbit urine

  101. Jared Bonshire Says:

    Done.

    Deal.

    Finished.

    Or not.

  102. adaircam4 Says:

    #78…Columbia…Adair CO…Live in Cincinnati now

  103. al purnell here Says:

Where can we sign up, so when Lucas,Patterson commit, Billy Clyde can text us all with the good news?

  104. J from the Real Ville Says:

Hey 101, so was that Jai’s uncle’s, brother’s, second cousin’s that you got this informations from, or what

  105. Loserville Ass Clown Says:

1-800-262-5269, go there to get all the updates you need.

  106. JKW1974 Says:

I agree with 5, RIP Josh.

  107. UofLsux Says:

I just wonder when Rick “Drip” Pitino is going back to the Cleveland Clinic. Bald, stupid and
living with a STD is a horrible way to go through life.

  108. ashcampboy Says:

I agree with you Matt, that Willie trancends labels and styles a nd appeals to a cross section of people, which is why he best represents the great things about America. Johnny Cash is another artist with simiilar appeal. I would put myself in that group, in the notion that i have a wide variety of friends and try to bridge the gap ;)

  109. Wednesday Says:

Is it me or has supposedly everyone in the class of 2008 been offered?

  110. Captain Obvious Says:

its better to offer 08 recruits rather than waiting until the deadline and scrambling to put together a class like CBC ad to do this year due to the nonexistant effort put into recruiting by Tubby

  111. ashcampboy Says:

Oh and don’t forget the man who is singing with Willie, he perhaps captures the spirit, in which you are talking about, better than most, including maybe even Willie. If are talking strictly music, but Willie crosses a broader appeal. Oh and if Kuncinich is an odd ball, then what does that make Dubya.. maybe a little eccentric, but bush is a criminal and should be tried for war crimes.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPMxJROHInM

  112. ashcampboy Says:

Wes Clark is the Willie Nelson of politics that can trancend and cut across boundaries and commnities.. from alabama to bosina.

  113. KokomoCat Says:

ashcampboy…so much for your bridging many gaps, with comments like the ones about our president…BTW, Go Cats…

  114. JKW1974 Says:

Willie rocks..always has. Matt, how about a daily baseball thread for those of us who like to follow that beautiful sport?

  115. Bearcat24 Says:

Pettigrew signing with WKU today at 2 per CJ.

  116. Daniel Says:

Deadspin has a powerful tribute this morning.

I was at a Cards-Reds game this week last year and got his autograph.

I feel like I lost a family member.

  117. Jamal Says:

    113.

You are aware that only 26-32% of all Americans still support the nimrod in the White house, don’t you?

I’d say an opposition that is composed of over 2/3rds of all Americans would automatically assume that the general public’s distaste for Bush and his policies has bridged many gaps. Hating Bush and his policies has become a bipartisan issue.

  118. JKW1974 Says:

116…It seems they are going to play tonight in Milwaukee, but I don’t see how they can even begin to pull it off. I will watch on Fox Midwest, to see how they do. We were not playing well to start with, now this……

  119. JKW1974 Says:

I support the Cats. I oppose George Bush and his follish policies in almost every area.

  120. JKW1974 Says:

    Foolish, typo. Sorry

  121. Rabid Cat Says:

I will take George Bush over any alternative choice the Dempoidiots will put up against him anyday!!!! Why are we discussing politics here!?!

  122. JKW1974 Says:

    Matt,

Will there be a delay with the streaming? I listen to one show on the net, and it has about a 10 min delay. It sort of messes with the experience….

  123. FearofaBluePlanet Says:

We got Legion, if Hamga comes in for 07, then I’d prefer Sanchez to round out the class because of his offense, even over Patterson. Beas and Stevenson are enough D up front til next class. I’d prefer some scoring downlow if this reclassify and sign comes to fruition.

  124. Osama Bin Laden Says:

I am voting Democratic Party. They love me.

  125. Taxes Says:

I m voting Democrat too! I will return to take you money!!! HAHAHAHAHA

  126. lexslamman Says:

At least the rumormongering over Patterson and Lucas has been entertaining. I hope they are still able to make the best decisions for themselves and don’t have their judgements clouded by overzealous fans and opportunistic and questionably dishonest coaches.

  127. lexslamman Says:

    124.

Last I saw Osama Bin Laden was a conservative.

    125.

Taxes or no more war on terror. Make your choice.

  128. Rabid Cat Says:

If any recruit is listening to the fans they will become Kentucky Wildcats. WHere else can you play in front of a crowd like we offer. Except Syracuse and Louisville. And playing for either of those two teams just doesnt make since if the Cats are calling.

  129. lexslamman Says:

    121.

Have you been asleep for the last 7 years?

  130. Taxes Says:

I will take the war on terror anyday over sitting back and waiting for those idiots to strike again! Next time it could be a lot worse.

  131. Anonymous Says:

129, 121 has been asleep or lobotomized.

  132. Rabid Cat Says:

I am awake. And I have been awake. Though I admit mistakes have been made. Sitting around with your thumb in your ass is a bigger mistake.

  133. Rabid Cat Says:

Lets talk to them and disarm them diplomatically like Clinton did with North Korea!

  134. Rabid Cat Says:

Or better yet! Lets sit around while Iran gets a nuke and blows Isreal off the planet. That way you can have a true marter on your hands.

  135. JKW1974 Says:

History will record this as a failed administration. The errors in judgement are just to large to even comprehend at this point…Not just in Iraq, but in many areas. this doesn’t even go into the corruption, lying etc…

Anyway, enough of that. Back to sports stuff….

  136. Rabid Cat Says:

I disagree… but that is what is beautiful about this country. I am allowed to disagree.

  137. Ralph Nader Says:

    I’m winning the next election

  138. starchief5 Says:

Willie Nelson is a lovable guy with a fair share of wacko beliefs and ideas (yes, I’ve read his biography). His best albums are “Phases and Stages” and “Red Headed Stranger” from back in the 70’s. Lots of good stuff from the 60’s, when he was known mostly for his songwriting rather than his singing and performing. He’ll sing with anybody who asks him to, regardless of how badly their voices clash. It doesn’t seem to embarrass him a bit. His style is to sing a half-note off, which drives you nuts if you are trying to sing along with his songs.

You can tell by this post that there’s not much basketball news to talk about.

  139. demoCrAT Says:

Most people get democrats and liberals confused. Not the same thing– most people need to take a history course. Voate Barak in 2008– its time for a change! As the CATS have seen–change is good!

  140. Drake Says:

I wonder what Marc Maggard is doing right about now? I’m ready for
a new thread about stud recruits Billy G. is looking to bring in.
I would like to see someone sign though for 07 instead of just talking aobut it.

  141. Bluer Than You Says:

If I wanted to read political opinions I would go to CNN or Fox News.
This is a Sports Blog. Stick to Sports.
Does anyone know if Legion has any pull with Lucas? I know they played on
the same All-Star team but don’t know if they are friends.

  142. anonymous Says:

    141) I agree vote for barak.

  143. Jon Says:

    80) Legion does have some nice hops, but none are in that video. That’s Nolan Smith. All legion does in that video is shot mid and long range shots. And legion is a 6′4 shooting guard. Not favorable comparison to 6′ even point guard. Very different games.

  144. Dherb Says:

For all you “pull our troops now” people, if that happened Iraq would fall into
chaos and turmoil. Think about it, a country is just left with no defenses
and therefor every terrorrist group in the world will jump at the opportunity
to take control of Iraq. Pulling out now with the job half done is a bullshit
way to show the world that we do care about more then just ourselves.

  145. catty Says:

These guys need to make a decision. Too many on this and other sites should be studying for finals, not checking these sites every 2 minutes.

  146. Dherb Says:

Legion is a stud and if he stays for more than two yrs will be an all american.

  147. ricdix Says:

    @ 34 David - Well said.
Physically, Beas Hamga is a man but is he mentally and emotionally capable of skipping his senior year? Does anyone know how old is?

  148. Dherb Says:

    149) I believe that Hamga is the same age as all the other recruits for 07 (17-18).
The question about his age should not come into play because the only reason he
may not be able to reclassify is because he is from outside the country and credits may
    not transfer.

  149. PT Says:

    147- I hear that

  150. Dherb Says:

Although he is saying that he already is in the process of changing classes

  151. Anonymous Says:

wow, Donavon the snake sneaking in for that last word with Lucas tonight…i sure hope Clyde
got the deal sealed last night at the Lucas dinner table…

  152. Jon Says:

    153) CBG snaked around Gary williams, and Donovan snaked around CBG. Tit for Tat. Hope he got the deal done too, by the way.

  153. Knowledge Says:

Jared, what’s the matter - can’t pick just one board? Get a life, bro. I never used the words “done deal” …

  154. gvillecat Says:

I agree this is a UK sports blog, but this made me laugh: #146 For all you “pull our troops now” people, if that happened Iraq would fall into chaos and turmoil.

    Now that’s stupidity!

  155. gjasper Says:

141 & 144) Voting Barak would be a huge mistake. He couldn’t even visit a Muslim country without them legally (in thier country) having the right to kill him since he converted. I hope the Dems nominate Hillary and the party gets set back 12 years. McCain will be the next president.

  156. V-in-K Says:

They are too short to play ball in Iraq….lets talk another place….(no recruits there anyway

  157. Thegiantawakes Says:

Who gives as rats ass if Iraq falls into Turmoil. We tried to help those bastards out and they want no part of it.

  158. Anonymous Says:

    154) we all know who the front runners our here lets not kid ourselves, gary williams
was irrelevant…Donavan getting the last word was snakey, but brilliant…

  159. Rabid Cat Says:

If Iraq falls to turmoil then Israel is history. Plus, our gas prices go to $8 per gallon and then the US goes into a depression. Vote democrat and you most likely will see a huge down turn to the economy that only raising taxes again and again will slow.

  160. Jon Says:

    160) LOL. It’s only snakey when it happens to you. I’m Maryland Fans are thrilled have had UK go around them, because UK isn’t Florida, and Florida is the devil.

    also, use “are” not “our”

  161. Jon Says:

    * I’m SURE maryland fans…

  162. Pete Says:

Hey Rabid Cat, turn off the EIB, ok? Seriously, dude, you are being brainwashed….

  163. Rabid Cat Says:

Pete) yes, I exagerated in my last post. But partisan politics is the cause of this. Kind of like Al Gore saying the planet is in big trouble because of humans.

  164. ukcatfan88 Says:

U.S. in Iraq for another 10 years…It’s a Done Deal.

  165. ukcatfan88 Says:

Al Gore is an idiot…It’s A Done Deal

  166. Dano Says:

Maybe donovan going last is good for UK. Everything he says and does will be compared (mentally) by the Lucas family.

I would like to hear a couple of questions answered…

Billy, you didn’t pay much attention to Jai until you figured out that he and Patrick may be a package deal…Would you please explin why?

Is T Green coming back? Or is he staying in the draft? If he comes back will you let Jai out of his LOI?

Did you really play Eddie Munster? Will you move our entire family to Gainsville and let us live on the Donovan compound?

  167. Bluer Than You Says:

Does everyone still think that Lucas and Patterson are a package deal?

  168. blue blinders Says:

    Yes 169

  169. Anonymous Says:

    169) I’m not sure that JL & PP are a package these days– however, since JL is making his college choice first, I think that his decision could sway PP’s a little. While we know that they would like to play ball together, they might like to get out of each other’s shadows a little. Plus, Jai is not waiting for PP to announce his decision (as far as we know). So, maybe Jai is less interested in what PP’s doing. I think Jai is ready to make his decision.

As for all you political commentators–SHUT UP! THIS IS A SPORTS BLOG–TAKE YOUR POLITICAL BANTER ELSEWHERE! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its getting on my last f-ing nerve

  170. CadizCat Says:

Hey Matt can we delete Drew’s message. There IS NO NEED for that on here.

  171. Blueman2000 Says:

Drew take your racist ass somewhere else, as for Matt, he never claimed to be a professional! You have no business using that type of language here or anywhere else! Please Matt ban that SOB Drew!

  172. bcgfan Says:

Talk about unprofessional #172 I think you need a lesson on that

  173. bcgfan Says:

Looks like if we do then you need one too. After all you are right here with us.

  174. tim Says:

I love the “witty banter” on these discussion boards…reminds me of why I went to college.

  175. bcgfan Says:

Just so you know Tim I went to college too. Still am actually.

  176. Bluer Than You Says:

Thanks for removing the inappropriate posts by Drew.
Lets talk some more basketball. So, Donovan will be the
last to visit Lucas tonight? Is that right? There has
been many different things said on the internet.

  177. tiredofwaiting Says:

please don’t ever refer to the Laettner comparisons again. Please don’t ever mention his repressed, homosexual name again on this site.

  178. George W Bush Says:

I am voting Republican, cause we have alone and systmatically created many more terrorist than were there pre 9 /11 and my daddy and his buddy ronnie created my buddy Osama. That there Afghan/Soviet War, yes sire.. created al qeauda, then lost track of them, til my daddy’s buddy saddam invaded kuwait. He is too my daddy’s buddy, just go ask the iraians during the iran/iraq war.. well he invaded kuwait and threatened to invade saudi arabia and that group with our former buddy osama, came to the saudi’s aid, but the saudi’s wanted us instead, and that made osama made at us. Hell, they told me that osama was goign to attack a year up til 9/11 but i was too busy playing golf, kind of like that there hurricane in the place where girls pull up their shirts. I love the white angel, strippers, a nd the saudi royal family. YEEE HAWWWWWWWWWW

  179. George W Bush Says:

I also like to play in topcat and wildcatdan’s fun place.

  180. Lujo Says:

180, If you can’t articulate your braindead leftist bullcrap, don’t humiliate yourself by trying and failing. Like all leftists, you can’t defend your beliefs intellectually because you “feel” instead of “think”. It’s all emotional. That’s why you guys always end up proven wrong by history. Marx is dead and discredited. The rest of the left needs to fade away like all dinosaurs. The left is dead, but the body is still twitching a bit for a few more years.

  181. Santa Says:

Sanchez is like Laettner? So, what defenseless, undertalented player did he stomp without penalty?

  182. Wednesday Says:

    182. You guys all sound like idiots. Quite talking politics on a sports message board.

  183. Wednesday Says:

And by all I mean everybody arguing their personal viewpoints on the internet…forget politics talk UK recruiting….

  184. JimBobMike2 Says:

We have 3 open schollys, not 2 as the article states.

  185. JimBobMike2 Says:
