Nice to see him sporting UK/Nike Logo sweats with pride vs. a suit!!! This is going to be the beginning of the end of Coach K’s Mastercard info-mercials.
9 - Hah, wouldn’t surprise any of us, huh. Probably a Nash fan. He’s probably a little more recognizable to the general public (ex-the Commonweatlth of Kentucky), especially wearing the orange jersey.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 30, 2009) Gov. Steve Beshear announced that the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) will report one confirmed case and one probable case of swine flu to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today.
“Like the rest of the nation, we are concerned about the spread of this new strain of swine flu,” said Gov. Beshear. “I want to assure Kentuckians that health officials here are responding aggressively to detect possible cases of swine flu and respond with the appropriate preventive measures. Individuals should continue to monitor this situation as it develops and practice basic measures to stay healthy, such as hand washing and staying home when sick.”
The confirmed case involves a woman from Warren County who had recently traveled to Mexico. The patient is currently hospitalized in Georgia, and samples were submitted to CDC for confirmation by Georgia health officials. Officials from the Barren River Health District are actively investigating the circumstances of this case to determine whether any contacts of the patient may be ill or need preventive treatment.
The probable case that is being reported involves an infant from another area within the Barren River Health District who had been in close contact with an individual who recently traveled to Mexico. It is unrelated to the confirmed case. The child’s family and other close contacts are being evaluated for illness and possible preventive treatment. The child has not been hospitalized. A sample from the patient has been sent to the CDC for further testing to determine whether swine flu is the cause of illness. The name of the county in which the patient resides will be released if the case is confirmed.
I got the sense from Cal’s twitter update about realizing he is now at Kentucky because of the rock star treatment and his own trailer to relax in as being very genuine. I think he is just starting to realize that he’s BIG-time now, even though he has always been a great coach, great recruiter, and successful at Memphis.
I believe Coach Cal and Nash are shooting a commercial for EA (I know Coach Cal is for sure). Knowing your Coach is getting advice from someone like Steve Nash…that’s great. Knowing Steve Nash would want to actually talk to your coach…even better.
Why doesn’t KSR host a KSR-golf outing? Just get together at a club somehere (Frankfort, maybe, midway between the two metro areas, most bang for the buck, so to speak), scramble format?
Do it like a normal scramble, have a silent auction of UK memorabilia (we could come up with some good stuff, I’d like to get a piece of old floor), give the money to some charity, have all the usual competitions (longest drive, etc). Name tags with our call signs under our names?
34 - somebody get Jones/Beisner/BTI/Gidel’s attention with it. No rush, we could shoot for pre-hoops season, maybe September, when it’s nice and cool outside.
Would be fun to do it sooner, but since it’s extra-curricular work for whoever puts it together (unless one of us is retired or unemployed), it might take some time.
Plus if you wanted to do the auction or whatever, need to collect the merchandise (or commitments to bring it at least).
Do it right before the season? Maybe get a couple UK staff/former players to attend (Padgett, whomever).
On the golf idea…it’s a good one. Make some charity the beneficiary and you get lot’s of pub and more donations. Maybe the Cawood Ledford fund for ex-athletes to finish up their degrees?
29, 34, 36 that is a great idea. I’m actualy working on setting up something a little like that for the UK/U of L football weekend. It’s not golf, but it will hopefully end up being something very cool that everyone will enjoy.
But, I like the golf scramble idea….I’ll see if I can put something together there too.

I bet the commercial is hilarious…Nash’s Power Water commercial where he stuffs the banana down the bottle is pretty damn funny.
April 30th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
The correct terminology is Broner, TB. An “erection” caused by another male or “bro.”

April 30th, 2009 at 3:15 pm

April 30th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
Cal hasn’t even coached a game at UK and now He is being courted in L.A…….. There is no question why he left Memphis.
April 30th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Should have happened two years ago but who knew? I could almost weep thinking of two seasons lost for UK basketball.
April 30th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
It is amazing how one man can change the face of a program, by doing what he is suppose to do, and he hasn’t even coached a game yet. Amazing!

Off topic, since it’s a litte slow at the moment:

“Headed to LA to shoot an EA Sports commercial. You will not see me with a guitar or in my underwear. I also will not be shirtless or rap…”
May 1st, 2009 at 7:38 am
I especially love the photos of him cutting down the nets with confetti flying. I hope to see the real thing in the coming seasons!
