Sometimes the court system has the ability to right aggregious wrongs. For instance, when you think about Huntington High basketball player, OJ Mayo, you likely think of a humble, non-descript kid who could never find his way into any trouble whatsoever. Further, if such a kid were ever to have been said to….oh, I dont know…..get in a fight in a game…..well that couldnt be the case, now could it. Understanding this, a Cabell County Judge has issued an Injunction prohibiting the West Virginia High School Athletic Association from suspending OJ for his game tonight in Cameron Indoor Stadium until his “appeal rights are adjudicated.”
And you thought there was no justice in America……I am no sage, but I am betting the headline “OJ Has his day in Court” is one we may be seeing again in the next few years.
And Rob Gidel…..you are welcome for this shirtless picture of OJ…..

Shirtless pictures of highly toned children?
January 30th, 2007 at 4:17 pm
AHHH!!! the model citizen, I can’t wait until he’s in the NBA with Carmelo Anthony playing role model for the Inner City kids through-out the USA. I love this country!!!
January 30th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
and OJ was the victim in this picture? He POSED like this to say something…he’s a man, not a child.
January 30th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
Pathetic! Judge….I live in Huntington area and this kid could commit Rape..Murder…shoot Drugs..child molest and he would get away with it….This town and Huntington High want a National Championship and nuttin gonna stand in there way….and Huntington High coach is riding Mayo & Patterson all the way to an elite coaching job in NCAA!
January 30th, 2007 at 5:53 pm
What did Mayo do wrong? How many people that typed here saw in person what went wrong? This kid has the whole world against him because of his unbelievable talent.. Just give him a break and let him enjoy playing at a large arena with his high school teammates.. And who was the ref that gave him the technicals anyway?
January 30th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
#5 i saw it and he did it and he was wrong in his actions! any other kid would not get the chance to appeal this like this and get to play…
January 30th, 2007 at 6:05 pm
Looking at the video, OJ didnt do anything wrong except grab the ball after he dunked it
Matt, why the hate for OJ? What trouble has he gotten into besides when he was provoked at school last year b/c of who he is. OJ will stay out of trouble.
January 30th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Did anyone not see him “bump” the official to the floor? So many excuses for a kid that hasn’t, doesn’t, and won’t ever do anything but dribble a basketball.
January 30th, 2007 at 6:50 pm
#5…a large arena? That arena is probably smaller than his own high school gym…not to mention every other place he has played this year.
January 30th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
I agree with the guys on PTI…He’s A PUNK!!! I went to the same school that OJ did for awhile even though he was quite a bit younger than I am (I was a Sr. when he was in the 7th grade). He broke every rule in the book and nothing happended to him, But if anyone else did anything wrong they got the book thrown at them!
If you think OJ came back to Huntington just to play basketball with his old friends then you are crazy!!! He got into a lot of trouble where he came from and if he didn’t leave he was going to have to sit out some of his Sr. season!
Matt you are 100% correct…this wont be the last time we see the headline “OJ Has his day in Court”! He needs some Bobby Knight coaching!!! :o)
January 30th, 2007 at 7:06 pm
PTI was correct,,he is a Punk with a Punk attitude…and i saw him “Bump” the ref…he did it with cockyness and a punk attitude…..He knocked the ref to the floor….
January 30th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
hey is there any players to watch for at the All-A Classic. I’m thinking about watching some of the games since I’m an EKU student. thanks
January 30th, 2007 at 7:12 pm
Did he deserve the first technical? Probably. The second one? Maybe which would warrant the ejection. However, the video clearly shows the ref took a dive! I don’t know if he tripped over his own feet or what but OJ never touched him. He was walking close to him but never touched the ref. Let’s be serious here. Even if OJ had bumped the ref, and a very small bump it would have been, it would have never knocked him down like that. I’m not trying to take up for OJ because i could care less about him. The problem i have is with the ref that clearly took a dive and caused a kid to get suspended. The refs in all sports are getting worse year by year.
January 30th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Good for OJ. The ref “flopped” bigtime.
January 30th, 2007 at 7:41 pm
Flopped or not, he got over top the ref after he fell and had to be held back by his teammates….
January 30th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
Matt’s right he did get over top the ref and had to be restrained…I follow this team,,i’m a huge Patterson follower and i saw it,,,Mayo was taunting and showing off being himself and the ref’s in WV are getting upset at him doing these things and making them look like fools because he is UNO # 1 players in USA…
January 30th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
C’mon Matt…it wasnt that long ago that you had Administrative Law. The WVHSAA would be denying OJ Mayo of his due process rights if he wasnt allowed to exhaust his appeals before being suspended!!
January 30th, 2007 at 8:24 pm
This should be the last game for that ref. That was an absolute joke.
January 30th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
No Matt Jones, he was not malicious in his intentions after the ref “flopped” like Vlade Divac. The kid was saying “Why did you feel, in confusion. Your hate for OJ is outrageous IMO. It is unwarranted
January 30th, 2007 at 8:33 pm
LOL….well we need to know a lot more about the statute that created the WVHSAA before we can say he lost any due process rights. But hey, I appreciate the shout out to admin law, taught to me by the great Professor Hornstein and refined by my days on the DC Circuit.

OJ Mayo got hosed in the situation video. You can go here http://www.wsaz.com/home/headlines/5410146.html shows what happened. The video shows that OJ should have never gotten the 2nd technical foul. You can read comments each of the officials stated and they clearly did not see anything OJ did to get the 2nd foul, The ref who gave OJ the technicals had it out for him the whole game. OJ i think will not recieve more than 1 game suspension i think for the 2 technical fouls he got. You can also read the coaches comment saying he tryed to call a timeout after the 1st technical to OJ but was ignored by the ref who called the foul. OJ GOT SCREWED.
January 30th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
#21 - Thanks, I agree with you after viewing the video. You can see refs. in all sports attempting to determine the results of games even in Youth League sports, some adults can not handle the temptation to insert themselves in the outcome. Some adults, not just refs., could be jealous of his talent.
January 30th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
That ref needs his licensed revoked…looks to me like he was going for a big time lawsuit when OJ makes his jack…
January 30th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
OJ still has no excuse in pushing the ref. I am from Ashland, Kentucky and saw OJ when he was at Rose Hill even. I saw him out in public a few times also and he always came off to me as being a punk, this coming from me being a 20 year old. I never personally had any problem with him but he has alaways stated to other he wants to be a “gangsta” and all that. This to me is typical OJ Mayo and there will be plenty of more suspensions to come in the future.
January 30th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
24,,I’m in Ashland myself…and i agree witcha..He can be a Punk! see my post ’s above! But Huntington High won tonight in Durham….with coach K looking on….
January 31st, 2007 at 12:37 am
The ref folded like a house of cards. I think it pissed OJ off more that he flopped like a bass in a boat. OJ was just going over to say sorry and help him up by the crotch.
Coach K could give him some pointers.
January 31st, 2007 at 12:51 am
That ref belongs in the company of Wojo and Bill Laimbeer. He should not be allowed to ref another game.
January 31st, 2007 at 7:30 am
I’ve followed OJ for a long time - since 8th grade I have always beens amazed by his attitude, he always seemed incredibly humble to me. When him and Bill Walker played together at NCH, Walker was the one with the mouth and attitude and OJ was the first to calm him and pull things together. I remember one game in particular (St. X after Wolf left) where the refs called a foul on every steal he made, it was ridiculous. He remained poised and continued playing his game. He rarely talks trash, instead he lets his incredible talent do it for him. That being said, teams often take cheap shots at him because they are so over matched. The refs are to blame here, especially the one that flopped!
January 31st, 2007 at 8:11 am
The more I read and view regarding this story, the more I am convinced that the ref was looking for a “payday in the future. Exploiting young kids is much more a crime to me than the “subtle” if any contact that was made
January 31st, 2007 at 8:37 am
24 & 25…That’s what I am saying! I WENT to Rose Hill while OJ was there. He was a 7th grader when I was a Sr.! He broke every rule in the book and nothing happend to him and yet our principal at the time made up rules that weren’t in the book to punish others (my self included)! OJ is a PUNK. He mistreated every girl in the school and when they would try to tell someone about what OJ said or DID to them the higher up’s pushed it under the rug! I can’t even tell you how many people left Rose Hill because they were being abused by OJ and nothing happend to him! It’s no rumor…I’ve heard it out of their mouths. I don’t care if the ref. took a dive or not…someone needs to let some air out of his head (for his own good) before he thinks he can get away with anything and really gets into some BIG trouble!!!
January 31st, 2007 at 10:21 am
Patterson with 20 and 12 in win.
January 31st, 2007 at 5:37 pm
Who cares?? He’s in southern california next year and the only way any of us will see him play is if USC playes at like midnight or something on ESPN.. He’ll get a first real taste when he steps on the floor with other college players..

This kid is just a little punk. What a totally inflated ego on this scum. What is he going to like when he is a pro. Someone better tell this boy to grow up.
