Remember when Randolph Morris kinda screwed with us as a freshman by looking really slow and kinda lazy on the court? Then he was going to leave, and we were all mad and sad and said rationalizing things like “Let him go, we don’t need him anyway.” Eat it, suckas! He was only teasing. In fact, Morris continues to be judge, jury, executioner and soul-stealing behemoth for the Cats this season with today’s double double, twenty-five points and ten boards against the EKU Colonels. Despite some mediocre shooting (47% in the first half, 52% in the second) and some pretty impressive shooting by the Colonels, some good chemistry helped lead the team to a solid 78-65 win in a game that was steady if dull at moments. Bradley clocks in with 20 points and a few nice assists, Joey C. rounding out with 13, and the Cats are 10-3 on the season. Not too shabby. I don’t think anyone was that surprised that we win today, but EKU was on surprisingly on their game today. All in all, a win’s a win. What say you, fair citizens?

Well…EKU was defintely better than when I watched them play Division 3 Kenyon and were loosing at the half… If Mike Rose was playing to his usual self, it could’ve been even closer. But as for UK Randolph scored 25 very quitely I thought. Ramel made a few mistakes as usual, but was the main reason Kentucky played with any intensity. EKU plays an unorthodox style, and if UK was hitting the outside shot early it would’ve been a totally different game. But a win is a win, and they took care of business the second half. Maybe Joker Phillips could help the offense out in practice though…

UK was rusty off the week’s layoff. Still outshooting opponents by 10% FG and 7% on 3-pointers.
Those numbers (+10% and +7%) will win a lot of the remaining games on the schedule.

Matt, EKU presented some different looks defensively…We won…You are right Morris is
dominant, Bradley and Crawford hit some shots…Jasper not bad…Bobby continues to struggle and
his ability to do anything productive will haunt UK I’m afraid, I hope I’m wrong…I was hoping
the guys would be ready to play and get some of the other reserves in, but we just were not
ready to go and compete…Perry Stevenson is a big gamer, but is usually not ready versus EKU,
UTC,….teams he should excel against…my problem with this, is that it brings about
inconsistencies…however it was win number 10…
Matt, any news on Marshall Moses…he is the key to the 2007 recruiting class…Patterson &
Lucas, they are probably not coming…Moses is a good possibility and a must sign for Tubby…

Another classic snoozer game. TV on, but paying attention to anything and everything else because it’s too ugly and boring to watch. After the game was over, I felt guilty for not letting my 2 year old daughter watch ‘The Incredibles’ for the 3rd time already today.

It’s a win, but it was a pretty blah game. Thank goodness for the DVR so I can fast-forward thru foul shots and stoppages in play. Big props to Ramel for willing the Cats to the win. He played with a ton of fire, especially on the defensive end, and nailed a couple crucial threes when EKU got close in the second half. That might’ve been his best game as a Cat, and the 5 boards and 5 assists (and only one TO) were just as impressive as his scoring. Morris’ domination is starting to seem routine. It’s hard to believe how far he’s come.
On the down side, is there a team in the country that starts slower than the Cats? I’m not going to spend the time looking thru the box scores, but I’d bet they haven’t scored more than a point per minute once in the first 10-12 minutes of any game this year. That won’t cut it against any team that comes out firing, especially on the road.
I’ve often complained that Tubby’s style is too conservative and sometimes doesn’t see the forest for the trees. Today is a good example, as this is exactly the kind of game where the frosh should be allowed to play thru their mistakes and get significant minutes. Instead, Meeks got 12, Stevenston 4, and Porter 6. Stevenson must have done something to end up in the doghouse, as Baker noted in the second half that he never took his warmup off and the trainer said he was fine.
It’s too bad school is out at EKU. Adam Leonard would be swimming in tail tonight. Welcome to the Joe Crispin Hall of Fame, fella!

Well, I just hate to see Michael Porter rotting on the bench and getting 1 minute to show his skills when all that he needs is PT. With an “EKU” as an opponent, one would think that Michael would at least get a few minutes for the future. It reek’s, IMO. And, when we can “CELEBRATE” A VICTORY OVER EKU, well what can I say. Slure, a win is a win. But, then, why not play a Div III opponent if that is the main idea. Sorry, I can’t get excited over this particular “victory”. 100 x zero = zero.

Didn’t care much about basketball today. Still excited about football. Maybe Tubby needs to borrow an idea from Rich, call his guys “soft”, and have them do one on one tackling drills. The intensity and enthusiasm just isn’t there.

I was disapointed in the lack of Michael Porter and Ramon not getting a single minute. If we can’t play him against EKU when the hell are we ever gonna see Ramon in the game? He’s had plenty of practice time all break without the 20 hour limit. But once again, Bobby got most of the minutes and did not really contribute in any way. Even Sheray is looking better out on the court.

Yeah, 52% as a team from the floor is never mediocre. Not sure what Chris was sniffing. … This is the perfect game for the whiners: slow news day, nothing brewing, post-bowl, layoff game … “You didn’t win by enough! I miss the good ole days when we never lost and when we won, it was always pretty and always by 35 points!” … I remember those times to: on Double Dribble.

In retrospect (and I do normally try to choose my words more carefully), I’ll agree to eat the word “mediocre.” The game had just ended, and my pulse was way low. You guys are right — It wasn’t bad percentage shooting, but you have to agree it felt that way due to the game’s pace. I think we can all agree it wasn’t a highlight reel game.

All a game is to some is merely an opportunity to bitch. That won’t change. Even though it really should. Bitching leads to bitching about bitching, and so on and so forth. What would help out is a code for for all bitching noises to shorten it down. Like instead of “Porter is rotting on the bench in our ugly plowhorse crappy offense…we never blow anybody out…B. Perry is awful…remember when we mattered” just say……”I’m a bitcher on this one” and end it there because everyone has heard it all before ad infinitum.

I dont see Ramon getting the minutes this year. His window of playing crappy teams is about over. No way to we have any breathers in the SEC. Maybe against Auburn and Ole Miss,MSU, the rest will be tough games.

There’s still a chance for Ramon to play this year against the tougher teams. He’s not, not playing because of his ability. He’s not playing because he hasn’t caught up with the team in terms of knowing the defense or plays. The contrast between ‘03 and last year show how important team play is in Tubby’s system. He’ll at least get decent minutes later in the year.

porter only got 6 minutes because he could not guard leonard for eku. he lit porter up and the when bradley switched over and started guarding him he did not score the rest of the way. defense is the key to playing for tubby and when you don’t play defense you don’t play.

I was at the game. Tubby said at the end of his radio postgame he couldn’t stay behind to sign autographs because there was a recruit he had to go visit before the recruit had to fly out. Does anybody know who visited during the game?

#39 UK ranks 4th in Most W (119) over past 5 years and 4th in Most W (251) over past 10 years.
And 4th in Most W in NCAA games (22) from 1998 through 2006.
UK has 5 SEC titles and won 5 SEC tournaments in that timeframe.
Florida trails UK in each of those categories.

#41, I don’t know who the recruit was, but a team manager came to the row I was sitting in and introduced himself to what seemed like a really young kid. He said something about coming down after the game, which I took to mean into the locker room. The kid was a white kid, medium tall, like maybe 6′0″-6′2″ and I don’t know anything else about him - except I can’t stress really young enough (ninth or tenth grade). Or, maybe I am just getting old and every kid looks young to me….

Morris was a beast! How underrated is he? I picked up the 2K game and he was rated like an 81 while UNC’s poster boy was a 90. Last time I checked Morris shut him down! The entire Kentucky team was underrated in that game. Of course I had to “fix” them. Now they are rated up there with the 1996 team (I know they are not, but I am a homer). The entire team looks a lot better at this point. I am excited to move into SEC play! Look out boys here comes the BIG BLUE MACHINE!

Historical facts are great, but we live in the present. Until, this program starts beating top 20 teams regularly again we are an afterthought on the national scene as evidenced by our absence from the top 25. If this trend continues we can forget about being on nationally televised telecasts. The networks want high level matchups not a middle of the road Kentucky team to televise. We can also forget about attracting top level talent on a consistent basis. Those that are pretending all is well in the UK empire are blind. We are approaching the halfway mark in this season and the real heavy lifting is about to begin. The SEC schedule will prove whether we are a contender or a pretender. No spinning either direction can coverup actual results.

Past 5 years = present. UK has dropped out of Top 25 about 1 of every 3 or 4 years over the past 40 seasons. Look it up.
UK attracted Top Level talent in 2004 and 2006 classes.
The 2007 Cats are much better than last year.

status of Kentucky Basketball. They are currently 10-3 and have played some pretty good

Last 5 years (2003 thru 2007 so far), UK is 119-31. Florida is 114-35.
This season, UK is 10-3 vs. #4 rated SOS. Florida is 12-2 vs. #175 rated SOS.

UNC had worse records, but they didn’t screw around for 15 years waiting for their subpare coach to voluntarily…the knew their place in College Basketball, and proactivley did something about it. Jonesy, maybe you can fill us in on the Daugherty apologists down there that whined about him being alum, and that things would turn around, and all that crap…aren’t you from down there? UNC is back on top for a reason…and it ain’t because they were loyal to an undeserving coach. Last time I checked, UNC hasn’t had to hire a sports psychologist for their team.

Yep! That was 6-4 SG Jacob Jenkins of Louisville Manual that was on an unofficial visit to the EKU game. He is a pure shooter and will be a big boost especially in games where teams throw a zone at the Cats. He is still very young at 15 years old, but his overall skills puts him as one of the top sophs in the country. Hoping for some positive feedback from his visit.

The program is down and going down further.
Look at UCLA, Florida, UNC and others who are in the hunt for a title this year. We’re clearly not.
We’re picked 3rd or 4th in our division this year.
At this point we have exactly zero impact players coming next year. Not one commitment for 2008.
Look at where we were when Tubby came and where we are now.

#82 I’ve been following the CATS since 66′. You must have lower standards, if you have been watching the CATs since 70′ and believe this team is one of our best. This team is a nice team, but in no way shape or form is as good as some of our past teams. They may prove me wrong, but I suspect that a sweet sixteen is the best we can hope for out this group. Too weak in the frontcourt other than Morris. My concern goes beyond this year. If Morris departs we could be in for a real bad season next year, unless we score big on the recruiting trail, which looks less likely as the days go by.

Tom fact is UK has not been to a FF since 98, Florida has been to 2 in that time. UK has not beaten a good team this year outside of Louisville and they are not very good right now. UK needs to beat a good team before I will jump on the bandwagon. I love UK but this team has not proved anything. They need to beat a top 30 team which they have not to this point. They may not lose 13 games but they will more than likely lose 10 games which would be 5 10 loss seasons in Tubby’s 10 years, Not sure if your stats show that that has never happened before in UK’s 100 plus years of basketball, just a fact!!

Florida has been to two title games since 2000 while this program is now down to the level of guys actually getting worked up about beating EKU at home! FACT…we haven’t beaten ONE team in the tourney over a 5 seed since 98. Some of you get all worked up over the won loss records when they are clearly padded with cupcakes to keep this man employed and get high (and undeserved) seeding. We are set up with enough cupcakes to have about 12 straight wins over the next few weeks, but we still aren’t good enough to compete with a top 10 team.
