[Moderated by Matt Jones]

Big day for the Cats as they head to Nashville for the Music City Bowl. Use this thread to talk about the game, give your predictions etc. I have Clemson by 7, but am pulling like heck to be wrong. We will be at the Hooters on 2nd Street in Nashville for the pregame show on ESPN Radio (1570 and 1600 AM) from 11am - 1 pm and then will be there after the game to tape the podcast. IF you are in the area, stop by and come and see us.
Chat up the game….it is a great day for a UK football fan.

Let me be the first to say: GO CATS!
December 29th, 2006 at 8:52 am
UK by 2 in an epic game for the ages, redefining UK football!
(Little will score the wining touchdown in the 4th!)
Write it down and remember my name, it WILL happen!
December 29th, 2006 at 8:56 am
You have to believe! Bring it home fellas!! GO CATS!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 9:37 am
UK 28
Clemson 21
December 29th, 2006 at 9:43 am
While I’m certainly cheering for the Cats, we’re still a basketball state, as is evidenced by our ranking below such powers as Hawaii and Nevada:
http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?page=communityfbIP&l pos=spotlight&lid=tab5pos1
December 29th, 2006 at 9:49 am
Said it before and I’ll say it again, 40-32 UK.
December 29th, 2006 at 9:51 am
Go Iron Cats!!!! UK by 7. Clemson doesn’t have thier head in it and UK is hungry.
December 29th, 2006 at 10:10 am
I like our chances. Both teams lost to South Carolina, and we are much more confident at this time. The Cats by 10!!! I would also like a shot at their basketball team. I wish it could be a double header. Go Cats!!
December 29th, 2006 at 10:22 am
Tell me who’s in the house today? UK! Go Cats
December 29th, 2006 at 10:39 am
They’re faster on d and probably have a better ground attack, but our passing offense is wawy ahead of theirs and if we can jump out to a lead and make them “have to catch up” by going to the air then they’re in trouble… if we get a take away or two we could really pull this out… I’m not super sure we’ll be ready on d, but I have to be optimistic so I’ll say Clemson 36 UK 39 with Lones Seiber kicking the winning field goal with 1:20 left to go in the game… Proctor tries to lead 4th quarter comeback but his last hail mary gets picked off by McClinton.
December 29th, 2006 at 11:21 am
With the 112 ranked defense in the country, I don’t think we have a realistic shot. But I would love to be wrong. I say Clemson wins going away 42-24. Hopefully, we will have a better shot at a bowl win next year.
December 29th, 2006 at 11:35 am
Lyons on the left
Burton on the right
Little in the Middle
Touchdowns Kentucky
Keep the Defense off the field
December 29th, 2006 at 11:58 am
In an inspired move, Brooks and Archer discover a method to keep the defense off the field the entire game.
Every play (or every 3rd down play), UK gets a first down (just 10-11 yards). But after each play, they also get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that results in a 15 yard penalty, after the first down. So the team gains no real yardage, basically staying around their own 40 yard line until there is 2 minutes left in the game. A bone-tired Woodson then hands off to a fresh RB (since we have 3 good ones) who runs 60-80 yards in the final drive for the win.
Time of Possession UK 60:00 - 00:00 Clemson
December 29th, 2006 at 12:35 pm
GO CATS!! I got a feeling teh cats are gonna come out of the gates fired up……I hope I’m right! 28-14 Cats!!
December 29th, 2006 at 12:52 pm
31-30 Kats. Clemson misses 47 yd. fg attempt as time expires.
December 29th, 2006 at 1:16 pm
i’m following the game on espn b/c i am working… it just said that micah johnson ran the ball for no gaame… isn’t he a linebacker?
December 29th, 2006 at 1:16 pm
no gaame–no gain…
December 29th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
Micah Johnson was put in at tailback at the goal line and ran it twice. The second time, he went up and over for the touchdown.
Can we count that as a defensive touchdown? LOL.
Give Brooks a month to scheme and he’ll come up with something like this.
December 29th, 2006 at 1:26 pm
Clemson misses field goal. UK will get ball again up 7.
December 29th, 2006 at 1:27 pm
We scored?
December 29th, 2006 at 1:28 pm
UK 7-0, yes.
December 29th, 2006 at 1:30 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
Nuttin’! Nuttin’! Take ‘um to the Wood Yard!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
Punt not good, Clemson marches inside the 10. KY holds them to Field Goal attempt. Field Goal missed, maybe blocked. After the kick, offsetting unsportsmanlike/personal foul penalties, 1st and 10 KY.
UK 7 - 0 Clemson
December 29th, 2006 at 1:44 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 2:14 pm
Since the last posts, let me see if I can remember.
Clemson scores touchdown. New kicker misses extra point.
UK 7 - 6 Clemson
UK turns ball over on fumble.
Clemson throws interception in endzone.
UK fumbles…under review, since knee down.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:16 pm
Fumble not overturned, Clemson ball.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:17 pm
2 plays later, Clemson fumbles. UK recovers.
4 turnovers in as many minutes
December 29th, 2006 at 2:18 pm
Communications problems, which is why #36 fumble not overturned.
Meanwhile, fumble in #37 under review to see if recovering UK player is out of bounds.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:19 pm
Booth does not have enough info to overturn, but trouble getting info to refs on field.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:20 pm
No info when it would help us and plenty when it could hurt. Classic UK episode.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:21 pm
Still UK 7 - 6 Clemson.
UK ball, I think. God only knows where and for how long.
Oh yeah, the Clemson TD previously was set up by a blocked punt.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:21 pm
why r u givin play by play…just wonderin
December 29th, 2006 at 2:22 pm
What annoys me is on the other fumble by UK, they went with ruling on the field because the phone to the booth wasn’t broken when it was pretty evident the knee was down.
Now that UK is trying to get it back, they’ll probably use smoke signals to get in word that the recovering player was out of bounds.
GRR.
This is a huge mess, but UK is still leading.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:23 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 2:32 pm
Every kick is an adventure.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:37 pm
Near disaster on the kick, but now Woodson hits a long pass and we’re in the Red Zone with 20 seconds. LOL
December 29th, 2006 at 2:41 pm
4 turnovers.
2 missed FG by Clemson
1 missed FG by UK
1 missed PAT by Clemson
1 made fieldgoal by UK
1 blocked punt by Clemson
1 fake punt for a first down by UK
1 or 2 turnovers reversed.
5-7 Official Reviews (at least 1 dropped because of communication problems)
A 70+ yard TD pass by UK
Multiple sacks by Clemson
Kentucky leads 14-6 at the half
And all of that in the first half of a game where UK is a 9.5 point underdog.
December 29th, 2006 at 2:41 pm
And one other quirk - a TD run by a linebacker for UK
December 29th, 2006 at 2:44 pm
I will admit I am ashamed for picking Clemson. Great to see Demareo Ford score a TD!
December 29th, 2006 at 2:56 pm
Other than our turnovers - we are damn solid today. I figured there would be a few
with the time we’ve had off.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:05 pm
#53. There was no made field goal by UK.
Pretty sloppy 1st half. I just hope our defense can hang in there for the second half. I must say that I pleasantly pleased that UK is disproving my perpetually glim outlook on the football program.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:14 pm
57) Yeah, I jumped the gun on that one at the end of the half and put it on there.
All in all, UK looks like the much better team, with a lot more intensity.
The Turnover rash threw em off a little, but I think UK has the advantage.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:15 pm
YES!!!! Take ‘um to the WOOD YARD!!!!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:17 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 pm
Woo-Hoo. Woodson to Lyons. 21 to 6, UK.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:20 pm
Dickie finds the end zone!!!!
Also, I admire Rich Brooks size.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:21 pm
O line is giving Woodson all day. He’ll shread you to pieces like that.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:22 pm
Go CATS, looking good. I can’t believe how good we are at taking the ball away. Just goes to show you that defense rankings don’t tell the whole story.
With Clemson’s kicking game effectively shut down, we are sitting pretty.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:33 pm
what’s the score now… s till 21-6 Clemson ball?
December 29th, 2006 at 3:38 pm
21-6 Cats on offense at mid-field.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:43 pm
I’m at work in Arizona right now… I’m in the Air Force and we haven’t got a tv anywhere in sight… if some of you could randomly say what’s going on I’d really appreciate it.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:49 pm
4TH Quarter!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:51 pm
So we’ve got a 21-6 lead going into the fourth… that’s amazing. I can’t believe how good our D h as to be playing… This is what i was hoping would happen though because I’m assuming they’re trying to pass a lot now as opposed to just slamming it down our throats since they’re down by 15.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:52 pm
21 - 6 Little with a 47 yd. punt return to the clemson 28.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:52 pm
Cats second down at Clemson 20. Score still 21-6.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:52 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 3:54 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 3:55 pm

December 29th, 2006 at 3:55 pm
28-6
That’s probably the game.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:56 pm
No flag.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:56 pm
OMG guys - what does this say @ our program?
Do we have to listen to all the excuses of how Clemson choked and didn’t really care
about playing in this Bowl, and that’s why we beat them?
I’m so damn excited rigt now!
December 29th, 2006 at 3:58 pm
WE HAVE ARRIVED.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:58 pm
UK a TD in each quarter 7 7 7 7
December 29th, 2006 at 3:59 pm
Is it possible for UK to hold on to win a big game. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen that before.
This is karma for Marty Moore.
December 29th, 2006 at 3:59 pm
Let the countdown began…..10:56 left
December 29th, 2006 at 3:59 pm
Clemson is undefeated when their opponent gains fewer than 300 yards total offense.
Clemson is winless when their opponents gains over 300 yards.
UK has gained WELL OVER 300 yards so far.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:00 pm
Any man says Clemson didn’t care and just gave us the game GETS A PUNCH IN THE BUSH!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:01 pm
I think this says something about the SEC. so many people that aren’t a fan of the SEC think that the league isn’t the best due to the fact that all the teams beat up on each other so much… but the ACC and Big 12 and Big East aren’t near the level of the SEC Clemson was supposed to beat us by 10 and we’re up 22 on them… mid level SE$C team vs mid leve ACC team. I think almost everyone is coming back to… wow.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:02 pm
UL fan at work told me “Yeah, but they’re from the ACC” when he heard the score.
WTF! Hello McFly, didn’t they beat Wake, and where are they from?
December 29th, 2006 at 4:06 pm
Woodson and Little have been impressive. Big ups to Joker and Sanders.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:08 pm

We have given them more than they have earned. I think we’ve fairly dominated
a “superior(?)” team. Very proud of the team, Brooks, Archer, and the attitude of the
team to focus and prepare for this huge game. This sets the tone for next season.

HELL YEAH!!! They said it couldn’t be done… but Uk’s done it!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:37 pm
How about that point spread - it was only 17.5 points off.
Great win. Great for Tamme to get the recovery at the end.
Would’ve been a little better not to give up those 2 scores, but still, great to get the first bowl win in 20+ years.
Definitely a lot to build on for next year.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:38 pm
That’s it boy.
22 years its been!
We beat a very good team, injuries and suspensions aside and we were getting all sorts of praise from ESPN. Go figure!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:39 pm
It’s a great day to be a Wildcat!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:39 pm
1 pt win is still a win Han - sheesh
Gotta love being a UK fan today - awesome!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:39 pm
Woodson is quickly becomming a “STAR”
December 29th, 2006 at 4:39 pm
How about Joker and Rich calling a flea flicker on 3rd and 6th, not to mention the fake punt earlier in the game after a blocked punt.
A linebacker carrying at the goal line on the first drive, too.
And making Clemson’s running attack look impotent.
Those weeks off sure did do wonders for the game plan.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:41 pm
Of course a 1 point win is still a win, but it’s way too nerveracking to have Clemson have a chance.
It was scarily amusing to hear the announcers arguing over whether the game was over yet.
Woo
December 29th, 2006 at 4:41 pm
Did Clemson even have a running game today. All the talk was about how they’d
run all over us….For once, we have to give Archer a lot of PRAISE!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:44 pm
Wow, I’m actually looking forward to the buzz for next season.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:45 pm
I wonder what this does for our recruiting… 8-5 third in the SEC east and a Music City Bowl victory over a “supposedly” very good clemson team… If Woodsoon, Burton, and Little all return… wow. Our Line and Defense can only get better… we could be super dangerous next year…. but what a great year we had this year… almost three times the wins of last year lol
December 29th, 2006 at 4:47 pm
CONGRATS to Coach Brooks, his staff, and the entire team as they represented the university, the city of Lexington, the entire state of KY, and the SEC tremendously well!
I like the way this program is moving and the speed at which it is doing that moving!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 4:47 pm
Right, Jacob. We could’ve had a win at South Carolina as well.
9-4? Pretty
December 29th, 2006 at 4:54 pm
To imagine some were calling for Brooks’ head after last year… I always thought he would be successful here if given time… just didn’t thnk he’d do this well this early… he took us from the depths of nonexistance…. we should be very happy we kept him around… Archer… we’ll see. Jury’s still out on that one.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:54 pm
I can’t wait for the excuses the Rich Naysayers might try to use. The message boards tonight should be plenty interesting.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:58 pm
Don’t say “The jury…..” because that what gets said when willful ignorance is prefered over thought.
December 29th, 2006 at 4:59 pm
Or “point of emphasis”
December 29th, 2006 at 5:00 pm
I don’t get your meaning clyde
December 29th, 2006 at 5:00 pm
I think that Rich Brooks knew that he could out coach Bowden.
UK vs Clemson - based on the athletism of the players, Clemson wins
Brooks vs Bowden, Brooks wins
December 29th, 2006 at 5:01 pm
Therefore, the trick plays and such
December 29th, 2006 at 5:02 pm
Great game by Woodson, Woodyard, Woody Harrelson, Woody Woodpecker, Woodrow Wilson.
December 29th, 2006 at 5:03 pm
Archer won his job back.
December 29th, 2006 at 5:03 pm
Fan support was tremendous - wasn’t there an attendance record set today?
December 29th, 2006 at 5:04 pm
How much of that defense is back next season?
December 29th, 2006 at 5:05 pm
Archer was never going to lose his job. Brooks had faith in him. Im still not convinced.
Brooks called this game as if he had nothing to lose……he didn’t, his contract just got extended.
December 29th, 2006 at 5:06 pm
Archer’s D did great today… so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt, but one game doesn’t make up for a year’s worth of horrible defensive schemes and gameplanning… I say the Jury’s out because I’m not convinced he’s the man for the job yet. If next year over the first couple games our d looks good then I’ll give him the ok. But I have to see more then 1 game worth of success… he had damn near a month to plan this game out… week by week in the SEC is different ya know?
December 29th, 2006 at 5:09 pm
Yes. The D looked great.
December 29th, 2006 at 5:09 pm
Way to go Cayts! Doing the SEC proud!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 5:10 pm
#161 Shoulda picked us to win
December 29th, 2006 at 5:12 pm
For those of you who didn’t believe…BELIEVE…. These Cats are GOOD!!
December 29th, 2006 at 5:21 pm
I see it as a “turning point in the program” win. I may be high with adrenaline, but there’s no looking back now. I now believe we will be good -competitive in the SEC yearly- from this point forward. That’s why I think this is probably the biggest win since 1950 over Oklahoma. Laughter is fine. Ask me again in 5 years.
December 29th, 2006 at 5:26 pm
The D looked great in 2 games not 1. Dont forget the Tennessee game at the end of the year.
I am not a huge devotee of Archer’s but I think he can coach. I expect a major improvment in our D
next year like the progress our offense made this year from last year. The vast majority of our players
are really young and at other programs would not be seeing as much time on the field, especially on D.
We only have 6 seniors.

When is the football signing period? Is there still time for this win to help sway some recruits our way?
December 29th, 2006 at 5:27 pm
Clyde sure BELIEVES! And I’m drinking the Kool-Aid too!! I BELIEVE!!!!
December 29th, 2006 at 5:29 pm
I just meant 1 game as in the game today… by all year I mean as far as averages go (second to last)

157) Most of the defense is back (Booker is a senior, not sure who else).
The best talents (Woodyard, Lindley, Pryor, M. Johnson) are all coming back.

Who else has to keep reminding themselves that tomorrow is Saturday and not Sunday?
Friday afternoon football game…messing with my head.
Basketball game tomorrow should get my brain back in order.

A big FU to Maxim mag who rated UK football as one of the 10 worst programs in country. Maxim should sticik to making crappy magazines, with overairbrushed models!

Good Lord, is anyone else watching the SC Houston game?
Back and forth, and they just had a play as ridiculous as anything from the UK game.
Marching the field, Houston is inside the 10, about to take the lead back.
3rd and goal, they try a directional snap to lead the QB on a draw, and the snap goes right by him. So Houston’s QB is chasing after it, trying to pick it up. Two USC guys are hot on his heels and he knows it, so he kicks it out of bounds. Spurrier was right there and grinning like a madman because the illegal kick resulted in a 15 yard penalty from the spot of the foul, which made it 4th and goal from the 50. With the penalty, it was over a 40 yard loss and loss of down, so they had to punt on 4th and goal. It went into the end zone, so after all was said and done, 1st and goal inside the 10 became 1st and 10 at the 20 for South Carolina.

Maybe I’m a being a bit naive, but I feel very optimistic about next year. I feel like these Cats could challenge for a SEC championship
December 29th, 2006 at 7:29 pm
Is there an update or something coming sometime today?
December 29th, 2006 at 7:36 pm
176) Remember, Matt and the guys are doing a postgame show in Tennessee, I believe, so most won’t be around until late tonight, if not tomorrow.
175) I agree. We’ve got 9 more scholarships, a lot of recruiting draw (we’re now more of a contendor in arguably the strongest football conference) and we’ve got a very potent offense.
Even if Burton leaves (hopefully he won’t), we still have a lot of weapons on Offense, and our best defensive players are returning (Woodyard, Lindley, Prior, M. Johnson, etc).
Things look very good, and remember, 1 more score against Tennessee and we finish 2nd in the East instead of tied for 3rd. And we also played 4 games without our starting tailback.

I can’t find what bowl LSU is playing in… anybody?
December 29th, 2006 at 7:47 pm
man, I bruised my sternum with my fist today
and kept hearing the theme from “Rocky” Is Brooks Rocky? Well, the defense was and the Joker was wild. How damn good does it feel. Only 6 scholaship seniors?

We will definitely be much better and look at the schedule. While it is tougher than this year’s, we get most of the big dogs at home. Florida, Tennessee, LSU, and Louisville. Definitely a chance for some upsets (most likely Louisville or Tennessee because Florida and LSU will be damn good again). I also like our chances against teams like Georgia and South Carolina on the road, but Arkansas will be another tough game as they are very young, especially if McFadden returns.

December 29th, 2006 at 8:27 pm
Florida will be good again, but they also lose their starting QB and will be playing Tebow all the time. All their little trick plays with him will be a lot less surprising.
December 29th, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Where do we stand with next years offensive and defensive linemen? I also wondered about
what will happen with Pulley and Micah Johnson. Two great athletes that need to be on the field
December 29th, 2006 at 8:51 pm
I don’t see Tebow being a very effective QB for Florida unless he becomes a more accurate passer. I don’t care who you are, as a QB you’re not going to be able run consistently against SEC defenses. Also Urban Meyer’s offense is extremely flawed. He has been lucky to have had Leak’s passing ability his first couple years. The spread option might have worked in the WAC (or whatever conference Utah is in), but it won’t cut it in the SEC where the speed on defense is best in the country. Just a thought.
December 29th, 2006 at 9:36 pm
Matt can not pick UK games. He is to close. He picked UL over UK in basketball too.
December 29th, 2006 at 9:42 pm
This day in bowls has been pretty nutty. UK’s game was ridiculous at times. The Sun Bowl won on a 2 point conversion (Oregon St failed to cover spread), The Houston 40+ yard loss in the Red Zone that contributed to USC’s win, and now Texas Tech is down 4 scores at the half in a game where they were favored over Minesota. And Maryland is up 14 on Purdue at the half.
Tons of fun.
Predictions on the SEC’s final record? 2-1 so far. (Bama lost, USC and UK won)
December 29th, 2006 at 9:43 pm
Great point 184, however Florida has signed one of the best pocket passers in high school so you could see more of the same. Secondly they return a lot of player including Percy Harvin who will be a heisman candidate in my opinion before he is done. The schedule next year is pretty rough because you have all of the top teams in the SEC excluding auburn. Its going to be hard but i like our chances with Woodson getting some attention for the SEC’s top returning quarterback.

Great win by the Cats! Huge win for the program.
December 30th, 2006 at 12:17 am
It was so exciting watching the Cats this afternoon. We were by far the best coached team on the field. I wintessed some of the gutsiest play calling of all time with the game on the line. That may have displayed a lack of confidence in our kicking game, or it could have been an abundance of confidence in our offense that they would be successful. Coach Brooks has this team on the right track. I cannot wait to meet U of L again. I feel the playing field has become a little bit more even.
Does any team hit any harder that our Cats? I felt myself screaming ouch during the game!!

I just don’t see the Cayts beating the Vols next year either. Since I might be living in Lexington next year (thus having to change my KSR name..), I sure hope they don’t beat us!
If the Cayts do win, I can see the scene coming out of Commonwealth now…
UK Fan: “We beat ya’ll!” “Nothing sucks like a big ornge!”
UT Fan: “Wait till baksetball season!”
December 30th, 2006 at 10:54 am
Since when did UT become a basketball school? I guess one so so year
makes them a powerhouse!!! probally not,but good try step-sister.
December 30th, 2006 at 11:30 am
194. Yeah LOL, UT is so overrated this year and once our Defense gets ahold of them they will be done!
December 30th, 2006 at 12:01 pm
I guess they got a lil too drunk last night!
December 30th, 2006 at 12:13 pm
It was a great day, and a fitting end to the season. UK wanted it more and Clemson didn’t respect that.
December 30th, 2006 at 3:50 pm
Macon, the Arrrnge is going to lose in Commonwealth next season.
December 30th, 2006 at 10:21 pm
Why end this post with 198 post!
December 30th, 2006 at 10:23 pm
Let’s make it a big 200 with a great win! Let’s take the SEC next year! and meet here again during New years!!! By George!, We are a football state!!! and just happen to play some good basketball for 2 or 3 months too!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!
