No, I am not talking about todays game, which was disappointing and makes Florida the SEC favorite. I am talking about the fan response on this website. How quickly people jump off the bandwagon. I am still gonna hold out hope that these nutjobs only represent a small minority of the fanbase, but they take up the large majority of the message boards.
SUPPORT YOUR TEAM!!!! OR FIND ANOTHER TEAM!!!! THIS TEAM IS 5-2 IN SEC PLAY. I WOULD CALL THAT AN OK START TO THE CONFERENCE SEASON. SHOULD YOU LOSE TO SOUTH CAROLINA AT HOME? OF COURSE NOT, BUT JESUS CHRIST RELAX A LITTLE CAT FANS.
Here are some of the more ridiculous statements made:
Thank you again Perry Stevenson. Two choke jobs in a row. I can’t stand players who can’t come through in the clutch.
billy g lost that game for us, nice technical. Darrin Horn is from Lexington………Darrin Horn just kicked UK’s butt in Lexington………..Why not bring Darrin Horn in to coach UK in Lexington……………
6 down- lose another 4 to 6. patterson leaves, lose 12 games next year. nice sportmanship billy g in shaking horn’s hand. you suck and will be gone in one more
year. get your arrogant little f—t a—s out of here
hmm, yea and now we’ll hear the coach take up for the team saying he didn’t prepare them and whatnot…when the reality is..umm, WE FU**’N SUCK A**!
good God almighty Christ what a pathetic team we have. what happened to the 90’s!!! please God bring it back!! how in the hell did we ever get THIS frigg’n bad!! pitiful pitiful pathetic team!
*** AJ Stewart, Mike Porter and Ramon Harris: PLEASE TRANSFER!!!!!!!!!!
Billy G is the worst coach in the SEC
billy g go back to texas your an overpaid idiot
Kentucky will be lucky to win 2 more games this season.
We will never make the NCAA tournament without winning the SEC tournament and that won’t happen either.
Oh yeah, I would love to punch Stevenson in the face right now.
our coach is just plain pitiful. go back to texas you longhorn hippie piece of sh*t. what a joke for a team. i can’t believe we were all excited to get this joker and now we are the joke of NCAA basketball, with his stupid behavior on camera and now it shows how really pathetic he is as a coach. and our frigg’n players…jesus Christ. these guys just blow

THANK YOU!
January 31st, 2009 at 6:16 pm
If Tennessee wins tonight, it’s basically whoever wins out from here. chill.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:16 pm
I’ll take responsibility for the “never make the NCAA tournament” post. It was knee jerk and I’m sorry. I was bummed and I’ve been talked off the ledge since. Forgive me, I’m not one of “those” UK fans.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:18 pm
I am not one of the people jumping ship just yet, but Billy G is starting to wear on me. Not winning every game is okay, but atleast don’t be an a-hole. That makes our team look bad, and more importantly our school. Darrin Horn outcoached you today, face it!
January 31st, 2009 at 6:18 pm
Bryan you just made the post of the day
January 31st, 2009 at 6:19 pm
talk about jumping off the bandwagon you suck BTI dang man. what a horrible post…
January 31st, 2009 at 6:20 pm
damn straight, bti. either dont follow the team, or be willing to take the bad with the good. regardless, these assholes need to shut the hell up and let the damn team play the game.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:21 pm
i take back my statement im sorry BTI. i didnt read the whole post and i ate my words. i thought you were saying those things.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Good post Bryan,it sounded like nap time on sesame st. to me all the kiddies crying and kicking their feet.We have a Good coach and we will be back on top,but it will take some patience
January 31st, 2009 at 6:24 pm
BG should have exchanged pleasantries with and embraced Horn after the game. Maybe he could have even kept a fruit basket behind the bench just in case congratulations were in order at the end of the game.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:27 pm
10. haha i guess thats what people wanted!
January 31st, 2009 at 6:27 pm
there’s a reason Kentucky is near the end of the education food chain…
I heard someone state they would slit Porters throat if they see him on the street…
people are just flat out uneducated and redneck ’round de’s parts’…really amazing to
me how people drive and are able to manage money or do anything really…really sad
that so many people take their anger out on college students
January 31st, 2009 at 6:30 pm
was a tough loss but people are over-reacting big time…
January 31st, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Great post…of course it is a disappointing loss but everyone here will be tuning in on Tuesday night so we need to stay behind our Cats
January 31st, 2009 at 6:32 pm
I’m not mad at BCG. I’m just tired of UK being mediocre. More than 10 losses 3 years in a row is wearing on me. It could be 4 years in a row. Like most, I just want it to stop.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:33 pm
I like the way we played today for some reason.I was very hard on gillispie and this team early but now even after a couple losses i believe we’ll make it to the second week of the tournament. But bryan please get rid of this post uk fans are never gonna change the wacky ones will stay wacky no matter what you or anyone else says or writes. No sense putting it up here for everyone to see.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:35 pm
CLYDE SUCKS HE IS TERRIBLE
January 31st, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Post of the year (so far, at least.) I’m as disappointed as anyone in the losses, but if you wonder why the sports world thinks our fan base is crazy, look no further than this and some of the forums. I’m all for people venting, but some people are simply ridiculous, mentally challenged or otherwise loony.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Thank you, Bryan! I suggest that you should lose your intern status and become a permanent fixture!
January 31st, 2009 at 6:36 pm
I am glad you posted this. All these fans seem to think it’s gonna be a quick fix, but this is a young, inexperienced team who is gonna make mistakes. I just think it’s pathetic when fans act that way they did on here. You cannot call yourself a true fan if you do not support your team. I am glad you posted something about it, which doesnt surprise me because I saw you commenting on that post. Well said.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:37 pm
I agree BTI, great post… it’s really just sad to have to be grouped into a fanbase with people like this… after our next four straight wins these are the same people that will be singing final four again, lets support the team we have and be respectable fans
January 31st, 2009 at 6:37 pm
You guys need to realize that some people treat this like a relationship, including myself. We breathe and live everything Kentucky basketball. Just like a relationship, if the girl pisses you off and lets you down, you run to your friends and say, “that stupid cunt gets on my nerves, I would really like to backhand that b,” but in a couple days everything is back to normal. If people want to vent and let them be pissed off today, let them. Who cares? Just like 14 said, their heart will be 100 percent tuned in on Tuesday night and for every night from here on out to support our boys. And 12, just because you graduated from school (GED from Paint Lick), don’t try to make fun of Kentucky people. I am sure you hate when people from Ohio or other states make comments like that, so don’t make them yourself.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:38 pm
This post is like breath of fresh air. I think I spent too long in the last thread. . .
January 31st, 2009 at 6:38 pm
Hey intern, really, it’s not a good idea to highlight what people say in messageboards. That’s like turning over a rock and being surprised to see disgusting worms. You are the one making this a “story.” Just saying…if this site was actually large enough to register nationally, the “mainstream” sports media would take YOUR post and run with it as a way of bashing our “crazy” fanbase. So, really, YOU need to cut this out. People that bitch and moan in messageboards 1) are a very tiny minority of fans, and 2) are using the anonymity to vent frustration. It’s therapeutic for some people. But, again, you are a complete and total moron for your post. I hope you take it down. It serves absolutely no purpoes whatsoever.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:40 pm
24, if it calls out some of the idiots for what they are, that’s a good thing.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:42 pm
I have to post again just to stress a few more facts, moron-intern. 100 people posting on a messageboard represent, what, .00001% of UKs total fanbase? Get some perspective. Seriously. Have a little bit better sense than this. You know what you’re getting with messageboards. Especially after a loss. One more time: get some perspective and commonsense. Stop posting idiotic things like this. Don’t give a loudspeaker to people who say dumb things in the messageboards on this tiny site.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Thanks to BTI, the bad posts gain more publicity and attention. I’m sure someone will use this against the program at some point.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:43 pm
I take back my post that they
will be lucky to win 2 games
the rest of the season. They
will be lucky to win 1.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Yeah great post. You idiot. I am tired of being embarassed in Rupp Arena and on the road by teams we should beat. I am not asking for a blowout every game just some quality wins. People like you kill me being satisfied with moral victories.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:45 pm
25: um, how? Moron-intern just made this a STORY. What was it before that? It was nothing. It was a bunch of people venting and bitching on a messageboard, which happens about 200 billion times a day on 200 billion different web sites. That’s what people in messageboards do. Everyone knows this. It serves absolutely no purpose broadcasting on the full site what some people say when they are pissed after a loss. No purpose. Even if you agree with moron-intern that some of the negativity is mean-spirited and “nutjobby”, why make an issue and reprint what the craziest of the crazy choose to write?
January 31st, 2009 at 6:45 pm
24, 26, 27 - You know that anyone could access the message boards, right? BTI didn’t break some secret code. The nation already knows UK fans are insane - BTI isn’t exactly breaking news.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:46 pm
Let me be clear. IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. This loss sucked, but it’s not the downfall of the UK basketball program. It does, however, demonstrate our glaring need for better guard play. I was also disappointed at Gillispie’s lack of adjustments to better defend SC’s faster guards. My goal would’ve been to make damn sure that they never dribble penetrated the rest of the game. If they beat us with the 3 ball so be it. But with that dribble penetration, Downey, who’s going to get his 20 or so anyway, got points for everybody else and that ultimately is what won the game for USC. That and one egregious turnover after another. One question, though. Ramon Harris and Michael Porter. Why are they playing? Porter is no threat to shoot so teams back off of him and collapse quicker on Patterson. Harris is supposedly a defensive guy but he keeps getting taken off the dribble and also is no threat to shoot. So what do they bring to the table? Somebody help me on this one.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:47 pm
BCG is an overpayed flaming idiot. If he is such a great coach who did UK have to beat out to get him.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:48 pm
Thanks, BTI.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:49 pm
32 This is every game not just today. BCG hasn’t made an adjustment all year.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:49 pm
BTI-Good Job!, but the loss really was disappointing.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:50 pm
31: there isn’t one person in the world who cares what someone in a messageboard says, unless it’s overblown and turned into some big annoying story and ALL CAPS bitch-session about how disappointing and crazy our fans are. Basically, my point is: why shine a light on that which should never see the light of day? UL fans were wishing Pitino would get fired on messageboards as recently as three weeks ago.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:51 pm
I am not jumping off anything. Billy G is not very good in game adjustments, especially subsitution of players. Harrellson has a pretty good first half (4 mins,5 points, 3 rebounds) but AJ Stewart get second half time (5 mins, o points or rebounds), Liggins had a pretty good half and does not enter game the first 9 to 10 minutes of the second half, Galloway played 6 minutes in first half 2 points, 1 for one from field and 0 turnovers and does not see the floor the second half. I am of the opinion Billy G get caught up in his emotions (yelling at refs) that he has a hard time being a leader during the game. Our talent is as good or better than South Carolina and we lost at home. I am as much as a fan as anyone. I am not jumping off or on anything. We just need to let Billy G learn to be a head coach.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:53 pm
31 he condensed them into a single entry on a nationally known blog. Now the haters around the country can reference a pro-UK blog as their source for all the UK fan ignorance, rather than individual, random, anonymous posters. He has elevated the subject, unnecessarily IMO
January 31st, 2009 at 6:53 pm
32, Porter, while not being a world beater, actually allows this team to flow on offense…
the style of defense that is chosen to be played is what exposes him on the defensive end…
remember, he came in to play ball line, not man to man, he makes good and patient decisions
on the offensive end, and BG has stated repeatedly that it’s not his natural spot but he has to
play it because in this system it’s the best we have, he’s been hoping Liggins would ‘be here by
now’, and he’s not…Liggins seams to fight the system while Porter gets it and puts us in the best
position to win…he’s not pretty, not flashy, and looks confused at times with the ball, but,
he steadies us…
the problem on the defensive end, is we aren’t really quick in any spot, and the style coach
wants to use exposes our weaknesses…a zone, or switching defenses would help us win more games
which is what i thought the point of playing is…to win.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:54 pm
I agree that the posts could be more creative and resonable, but when Kentucky fans start saying it is OK to be average, then we become NC State or Iowa. Good sometimes, but never great. I think this whole season has been unaceptable. Our schedule is a joke. The SEC is a joke and we have 6 losses. Bryan, tell me why we should not be “fan”antic about UK and expect nothing less than excellence?
January 31st, 2009 at 6:54 pm
People, stop with the defensive adjustments. Bobby Knight won three national championships playing man to man. Unfortunately, BCG does not have the players he needs to make it totally effective, but that will change soon.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:58 pm
42, we aren’t quick enough to play man to man against quick teams, we lose to VMI, Miami,
SC, UL, UNC, and Ole Miss…where is the adjustments?!?
Coach K has had 39 years to win 3 titles, are we going to be patient enough?
Folks are tired of losing, it’s time to adjust to win, no matter the style.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:00 pm
BEST POST OF THE DAY BTI !
These kinda people should go root for the Lions.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:01 pm
sure bad loss, and shouldnt have happened, i can live with that, and a 5-2 start is pretty good.
but who does he think he is by not even shaking the other coaches hand after the game?
January 31st, 2009 at 7:03 pm
ive got a serious question for real thou….why doesnt billy g play any other Defense than man to man?…seriously?…just a simple question….im not bad mouthing him …just seems like if u switched up your Defenses it would confuse the opponent a little more u know?..i mean hell they know what we are gonna run so its so easy to plan a play for it…can anyone answer this?..is it because billy is to stubborn to change or does he seriously think man to man is the BEST thing to run at all times??..simple question that i cant seem to figure out..please help!! GO UK! oh yeah…something else…does he not believe it switching on picks??..if we would have switched on picks today our players would not have gotten beat as many times..I dont think anyways…but hell what do i know….just curious!
January 31st, 2009 at 7:05 pm
BTI is a Communist
January 31st, 2009 at 7:06 pm
“I think we have the best fanbase in America but our fans can be idiots for sure.”
-Bobby Perry today.
Yep. I can be one of those idiots sometimes as well. I was much worse in the 90s, nicknaming McCarty “Rocks” as in rocks for hands and hollering it to him at games. I’ve mellowed out a lot. I credit my wife. She would have divorced me if I’d have kept that kind of crap up, or never would have married me had she known how nuts I can be about UK.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:10 pm
billy g didnt shake USC coached hand after the game??…what??..i didnt see that…!!…man are u serious??…wonder how much longer billy is gonna be around at UK with these actions?…if he keeps losing and acting like a child i give him till march of 09
January 31st, 2009 at 7:11 pm
#38: Exactly how I feel. I’m pissed at BCG and pissed at myself for letting this get to me. Ugh. Can’t belive we lost today.. I want BCG as the coach and I want to see him succeed, but his game coaching is BEYOND AWFUL. There is no rhyme or reason to what he does on the sidelines…
January 31st, 2009 at 7:14 pm
#46: Once again I agree. We are predictable. Coaches know we play man and then they devise a plan to stop Meeks. Wow, that was hard. We are getting beat by guards constantly. Every time we play someone seems to have an awesome scoring outburst on us…Huertes/Fredrick….Calathes is next. So bummed right now.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Thank you BTI! I am embarrassed on many occasions by the obnoxious know nothing idiots that make our fan base ridiculous. Root for your team and coach and shut the hell up!
Turnovers are killing this team, and until this team stops turning it over, they can lose any game.
But they are still our team, and we need to be more supportive.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:17 pm
I watched the very end and I am pretty sure they shook hands. It did appear they may have initially missed each other with all of the celebration going around. I never gave it a second thought.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Kentucky Basketball is not a relationship. You can make our team look better (by being optimistic and cheering) or you can make it worse (by posting slightly-psychotic ramblings on internet chat boards). But ultimately, there is no give and take, and you are not entitled to anything. Championship banners, wins, polite coaches, none of it. If you don’t like the team, don’t watch. But don’t bitch about it like someone asked your opinion on how to play zone defense. You just showed up and turned on your TV.
I hate that the rationale for my comment comes from the movie Fever Pitch, but so be it.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:27 pm
One blog has spoke “really high” of the people that participate in this blog.
From Sea of Blue:
But as Kentucky fans, we are expected to be knowledgeable about the game, and have an understanding beyond that of most fan bases, and I do hope that is what we will see comment-wise in this thread instead of a lot of angry venting. Leave the venting to KSR and The Cats Pause. You expect more from me, and I have high expectations of my members as well. But we would be remiss if we did not analyze what went right and what went wrong, and so, I begin with a critique of the coach, with the caveat that I am fully aware that I have never coached even one basketball game and he is infinitely more qualified than I to be making these decisions:
January 31st, 2009 at 7:29 pm
54 what an idiot. How can you cheer on a losing team with a sorry ass coach and be happy to lose but keep cheering be optimistic isn’t that what got us here in the first place.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:31 pm
those comments are desperate and pathetic. what kind of loser sits in front of the computer and types messages DURING the game? get a life you pathetic losers kentucky athletics is better off without you.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Bottom Line, this is not a great Basketball team, it’s a team that is competitive in it’s own conference, that’s about the size of it. It will be better at the end of the season than it is now. I doubt that we win the East, I look for that to be Florida. When expectations get set so high, these are the reactions that you get. besides that, some people are just idiots. With next year will bring a “Dramatic” increase in talent to this team. If Pat and Meeks hang around to go with Orton, Vinni, and Hood, expectations can afford to be raised. Right now, it is what it is.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:34 pm
Im tellin ya, you gotta step back and see what is going on here. I saw a lot of good things today from the players and the coaching staff. We are far from where we want to go, but it takes time to develop good habits and get out of bad habits. We saw it last year with Crawford and he turned out to be much loved for his play. You gotta be inspired by Miller today. What about that lineup with Miller, Galloway, and Liggins, I liked it. But I think the most important thing is Stevenson. When he goes well (and stays out of foul trouble) we go well. You know what you got in Meeks and Patterson.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
#2–BIG IF. UT has played better away from home as of late.
Also, BTI–I hope you make it down to Tampa this year. I’d like to shake your hand. All the basketball ‘fans’ with a football mentality on the UT Scout board kill me too. A post was actually started with the question, “Should Pearl be fired?” Just absurd!
January 31st, 2009 at 7:38 pm
In reality, we played a very good tearm down to the wire and were 1 bad 3 point attempt(Liggins)and 2 missed freethrows(Perry)away from winning the game. As much as I want to see Liggins suceed, I think he is a liability. I think he wants to be the star, and makes some of his decisions upon that thought process, ala the stupid 3 point shot in the final 2 minutes when we had just got the momentum back.
January 31st, 2009 at 7:53 pm
58, I believe Pratt said it best in pregame today, “Horn has adjusted to the players he inherited.”
Something Billy has not done well…Porter, Meeks, Stevenson, Harris, Jasper were all brought in
to play ball line, they aren’t the quickest players. BG refuses to adjust to the players we have
and will play man to man and seems to blame it on the lack of adjustments by the players
who weren’t brought in to play that style. We get outquicked. Period. How about adjusting
to the players we have?
January 31st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
62 Eventually, he will have the players he wants. Are we going to keep Porter, Meeks, Stevenson, and Harris around forever?
January 31st, 2009 at 8:00 pm
63, no we aren’t. But, while they are here, how about reaching in the bag and pulling out
something that fits their abilities instead of having them play a style they aren’t built to do?
Playing a zone at times could help…can you imagine dropping a zone on that last possession?
Perhaps it would have kept Downey out of the lane? All I’m saying is, make adjustments.
Tubby did this well, Rick did not. I understand no coach is perfect, but, I’m trying to make the point
that BG seems content with forcing these guys into playing style that exposes their weaknesses.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:06 pm
COACHING IS SO OVERRATED !!!!! A COACH IS ONLY AS GOOD AS HIS PLAYERS……….DON’T EVER QUESTION THAT…….KY HAS 2 PLAYERS AND THATS IT……BEYOND THAT WITH MILLER & LIGGINS ITS ALL ABOUT POTENTIAL………BCG REALLY HAS HAD ONLY ONE RECRUITING CLASS (MILLER, LIGGINS CLASS). HE CAME IN WAY TOO LATE TO GET ANYTHING OUT OF THE 07′ CLASS. SOME KY FANS ARE STARTING TO SOUND LIKE U OF L FOOTBALL FANS. LETS GIVE HIM AT LEAST 4 YRS TO GET THE PLAYERS HE WANTS. I GET FRUSTRATED AT TIMES AS WELL BUT CMON…..STEP BACK AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE PLAYERS…….BCG DIDN’T CAUSE 21 TO’S……….
ALL YOU HATERS GET ON THE RED WAGON………THEY HAVE A GOOD SQUAD…………..DON’T BE JUMPING BACK ON WHEN BCG GETS KY BACK TO WHERE IT BELONGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 31st, 2009 at 8:08 pm
sc shoots the ball 76 times to ky 48
off reb and to’s
thats the bottom line
January 31st, 2009 at 8:15 pm
Sunnycat, of all your posts today, not one has an ounce of fact, logic or reasonableness. If you’re gonna call for our Coach’s head, give us some reasons other than BCG being “a flaming idiot” and “a sorry ass coach.”. Give us some kind of basketball knowledge so we can at least take you serious.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Matt, we need a site to rank the users who post and one where they can’t change their username without registering a new account. These ridiculous posts that lack facts and any basketball insight would go away quickly. I’m tired of reading this garbage written by alleged Cat fans who hide behind the obscurity of their keyboard. Seriously, take a look at a new blog platform.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Every fan base has its fringe elements. The problem with the UK fan base is that the idiot fringe seems to either A: be more vocal than others, or B: be larger in number than other teams’ idiots. In general, you won’t find the kind of meltdowns on other teams’ forums after losses like you do with UK basketball. The irrational yahoos are just too loud.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:33 pm
It’s fine to analyze, question and disagree with game and program-related stuff. Let’s just raise the level of discourse with a little civility instead of trash talking our players and coaches.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:39 pm
i used to be impressed with Kentucky’s fanbase but now I am embarassed with the non- support. Come together and root your team on or keep your lame @ss negetaive comments to yourself…
I know a loss is hard to deal with but you have to look at the positives Liggins and Miller both are playing better Harrollson came off the bench in both games when he was needed. As for the third scorer that would be our bench.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:45 pm
#62 I heard Pratt say that, and he’s right. That is not what Clyde is going to do, like it or not. He is not a versitile coach. It’s his way or the highway. I’m not putting him down, cause I think he does a lot of good things, but this side of him is not one that I agree with. That and the “He Whoth Practice Best, Playth”. I’m a believer that you have to be a good evaluator of talent, and then put your best players on the court. With that in mind, I think there is alot of the time that we don’t have our best players on the court. The tip offs are one example!
January 31st, 2009 at 8:46 pm
with fans like these idiots people wonder why 5 star players DON’T want to come and play at kentucky anymore it is not the coach or the school its the few stupid fans that want to jump all over the players and the coach when they think they know more than they do. if they were that so smart they would be on the court instead of on the couch crying instead of supporting our team to let them know that no matter what we wiil be behind them.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:52 pm
68 You are right a coach is only as good as his players. But why continue to give minutes to Harris and Porter when, due to lack of talent they can get no better. The played over 50 minutes between them and only took 4 shots (all from inside the lane). They may defend a little better than those not getting minutes but they are so limited talent wise I don’t think the Cats can be anything but average with them playing so much. Liggins and Miller are athletic enough that there skills and game sense will improve? Harrellson and even Galloway appear to have a chance to get better. Stewart is athletic but has no clue how to play basketball. Billy G just keeps playing Porter and Harris big minutes and they may not hurt the Cats but there is very little upside. We might have an extra loss or two right now but if Liggins, Miller, Galloway and even Harrellson had been given minutes we would be getting better and have a chance to peak at the end of the year.
January 31st, 2009 at 8:57 pm
Someone may have already said something similar to this, but I am not sorting through all 70 comments.
I have to assume that most people who read this site don’t read the comments section. I can think of about 10-15 friends of mine that read this site frequently and none of them, as far as I know, bother reading or posting comments. By re-posting all the garbage that some people write on here, you are taking those comments and broadcasting them to a much larger audience. This larger audience more than likely includes some of the players that the comments are about, recruits, sports writers, etc. It can’t be good for UK basketball.
I just feel that the ugly part of the UK fanbase doesn’t need to be highlighted. Just a thought.

#72 You are right, wrong players playing. Just a stat or two. Porter has played 481 minutes and taken 72 shots on the year (not counting today). Harris has played 368 minutes and taken 61 shots. They do nothing to help with the offense and create some space for Meeks and Patterson. Comparatively speaking neither can handle the ball or pass well enough, which leads to the great number of turnovers. If we are trying to be average (8 to 12 seed in NCAA) keep playing them, but if you want to at least have a chance to advance in the tourney, we need Miller and Liggins (Galloway as a backup) on the floor more.
January 31st, 2009 at 9:07 pm
I very much agree with your frustration with the many ignorant, unhelpful comments. I too am frustrated with the last two games, but will never boo our players (or coaches) or personally attack them. A UT friend texted me a sarcastic comment about coach G’s sportsmanship. I had to listen to the game today. What did he do, other than the Tech?
January 31st, 2009 at 9:09 pm
I’m not happy to lose, but at least I have some perspective. But please, everyone continue to flip out over a loss to South Carolina. That’s great.
I just want to know one thing: Whenever we win another NCAA championship, are they going to mail you the rings, or will you have to buy one of those replicas off of ebay?
You didn’t contribute to any wins, only to making this program look like a bunch of redneck jackasses.
January 31st, 2009 at 9:10 pm
59 - IJustWantToWin - Right on!
74 - toold - I understand that argument, but I think BCG and everyone else also wants to win now. I’m sure coaches make substitution mistakes sometimes, but if you read these comments, you’ll find people saying that Liggins shouldn’t play at all, Porter shouldn’t play at all, Stewart, etc. Coach knows best - I’m sure he wants to win, while teaching.
Everyone who is calling for BCG’s head should take a deep breath and remember why Tubby got ran out of town - lack of talent leading to lack of wins. BCG is fixing that. It takes time - think Rich Brooks - where would we be if we’d fired him after 2 or 3 years?
January 31st, 2009 at 9:11 pm
#75 THANK YOU!!!!
January 31st, 2009 at 9:19 pm
75 So you think people just want to say those things and don’t really mean them? People just want to say things without being accountable for them? What a joke, if you don’t have something intelligent or decent to say how about this: Don’t say anything because it just shows how stupid you really are.
Fans have no backbone to stand up and support their team and now they don’t even want to stand up for the things they say. That’s just how I feel. If you can’t post something intelligent don’t post at all.
January 31st, 2009 at 9:21 pm
81- not sure i am following you. I was just saying that I didn’t think the negative comments needed to be re-posted as a blog entry.
January 31st, 2009 at 9:25 pm
My real disappointment is Billy G refusing to play a zone. When the opposing teams have penetrating guards we can’t stay with, why would you not at least try playing zone?
January 31st, 2009 at 9:31 pm
sounds to me like a bunch of fans who know nothing…yeah it hurts but we will learn from the loss and we will beat USC at Columbia….chill out..gahhh…I just got home from the game and it hurt more in person….give the USC guards credit for a hell of a game and if Perry hits his free throws like he usually does, we win and everyone is happy….GO CATS
January 31st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
tennessee is going to stomp fla tonite so we will be tied for first ..it will be ok…dont go killin nobody tonite…I have found that the football losses are much harder to take than b-ball…
January 31st, 2009 at 9:36 pm
This is truly ridiculous. It is not embarrassing to be a UK fan cuz we lost, but cuz of these idiots. Guys, I am so competitive and I hate to lose to any team we play. I truly ruins my day, but come on. Saying you want to punch stevenson in the face. Remember last year he contributed so much to our success at the end of the season. Yeah he should have made those but you got to remember these ARE 19,20,21 YEAR OLD KIDS. And yes its like a job, but give them a break. What do you think when the players look at these message boards after the game?? Anybody thought of that. And what about recruits? They are probably scared to death that they might get death threats for screwing up. And calling for billy g, give him a break. He shook his hand, the camera was to late. relax, i saw it at the game. He will turn this team around. Honestly everybody calm the heck down. STOP JUMPING OFF THE BANDWAGON AND SUPPORT THIS TEAM!!! THEY WORK SO HARD!! WE CAN STILL DO GREAT THINGS WITH THIS SEASON. COME ON!!! LETS GO CATS
January 31st, 2009 at 9:51 pm
The players don’t look at these message boards, do you really believe this to be THAT relevant? Billy is a good coach, but I honestly saw it coming. Meeks could not hold Downey all day, so when he had it at the end I called it. That dissapoints me, and so does the fact that Meeks did not call a time out after crossing the line to try to get a better shot, but I would have panicked in that situation probably too. Get it to Pat down low on a lob in bounds play and he at least gets fouled. regardless go cats
January 31st, 2009 at 9:59 pm
I know we are second in the nation in blocks, but is that really helping us? we are having our big 3 that are in the game all going for blocks…..what is the result? two wide open men there to clean up the glass and get easy second chance points…..should we stop focusing on the blocked shots and worry more about boxing out?
January 31st, 2009 at 10:04 pm
87- i think some players look at these boards. im sure they do. its not that relevant, but what my point was is that they are probably scared to death thinkin that some guy wants to punch him in the face. its only goin to make them play worse.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:08 pm
BTI, we root for the University of Kentucky, not Eastern Kentucky University! We’ve lost consecutive games to teams we had no business losing to. Home court means very little these days. We have a coach that left us VERY little talent and we’re paying for it now. Things are not good. Is it really a shock to you that the fans are outraged?
January 31st, 2009 at 10:12 pm
I just don’t see how UK fans overreacting is any different than fans anywhere….i have a habit of looking at the NFL coaching ratings on ESPN on Mondays during the season. I kid you not, when the Titans lost their first game this year…putting them at like 10-1, the fans only gave him a 62% approval rating….fans react immediately….it’s human nature, give it a few days everyone will relax, we will come back strong against MSU, and everything will seem a lot more friendly.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:19 pm
I stand by my statement about Perry Stevenson. I know it was harsh and a bit exaggerated, but I was very upset at the time. You have to understand… I am a Bengals, Reds and UK Basketball fan. Frustration will come into play, especially when my beloved Cats are so close to being something special again. Back to Perry Stevenson… I am hard on him because I expect more out of him. I think he could be one of the greats if he just focused a little more. Basically, Perry Stevenson is exactly what UK basketball is at this point… Good, has great potential, but still much work left to become special.
I’m sorry if I offended anyone, especially Perry Stevenson. I love that kid and wish him the best.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:26 pm
look at the situation:were in our third year of mediocrity, and the last couple years have been downright painful to watch. both billy and tubby have recruited some of the worst players to ever play at kentucky, and i mean guys that wouldnt even be special at the d-2 level (coury, porter, ramon) and these are the guys that billy chooses to play the most over a usc transfer(galloway) and a highly sought after juco (harrelson). btw billy has been unable to recruit a half decent pg even tho we r the winningest program of all time and we could guarantee immediate playing time. there IS a reason for uk fans to be pissed
January 31st, 2009 at 10:28 pm
93….WHO HAS BG RECRUITED THAT IS THE WORST TO PLAY AT UK!!!!!!!!!!??????????
January 31st, 2009 at 10:32 pm
TOOLD - i don’t agree either w/ porter/harris situation
but 2 things - your only looking at the offensive side of the ball - remember - DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
were not at practice or behind closed doors so who is to say that porter/harris are not outplaying these guys in the most important parts of the games??
January 31st, 2009 at 10:33 pm
93 your an idiot
January 31st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
UK is still in the rebuilding phase. After next year Gillispie’s system will be successful. The negativity on this site is painful. This is a game that could’ve gone either way and UK happened to be on the losing end. Gillispie’s short tenure echoes Rich Brook’s first few years when the football team had virtually no support. I love the team and absolutely hate UK fans in general for their irrationality.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:40 pm
87-I would say there is a good chance that players might get on here sometimes. I doubt they read every little comment, but check out the blog posts, probably. They aren’t that famous to where they are above checking out a site that is almost completely devoted to them.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:45 pm
82 sorry I wasn’t attacking you it just pisses me off that people right things sometimes without even thinking about them and don’t expect to be accountable
January 31st, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Please inform me as to when fans were not allowed to critize their coach. I am with the majority to think that BCG did a poor job today. Apparently most of you never have played the game otherwise you would understood that UK lacked the mental toughnest to win today. You can’t bame that on anyone but the coach. Weak side rebounding (UK trying to block shots), piss poor defense, and turnover killed us today, as they have all year. If coach can’t improve these areas we are doomed.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
93 is right. Can’t be special with Porter or Harris. BillyG did not recruit them and still plays them. They are not going to win big with them. They will play next year because they will be more experienced just because of minutes. BillyG is hard headed and needs win now but if we are to get better, Porter and Harris must sit. Does anyone think we would have lost more than one or two more games with them on the bench? Porter best game, Louisville we lost anyway. I would at least like to have a chance. Rupp is not alive like it was and fans are booing and I think BillyG is not much of leader. He is now acting like a spoiled bratt, being rude to a female reporter and not shaking hands with a young coach of a team with less talent than his and refusing to shake hands.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Thank you Brian! I hope everyone that posted that crap read your post. I just wish you would have posted their screen names. That way we can all remind them of their true colors. Bad loss today, but its not the end of the world.
January 31st, 2009 at 11:05 pm
It’s not Porter or Harris. It’s BCS. OK maybe it is Porter and Harris, but who else do you have? At least Harris can bug his eyes out when he turns the ball over. We have not developed our freshman yet but we still have several games to go. Liggins, Galloway, and Miller are our only hope. Too bad they have been so slow to develop.
January 31st, 2009 at 11:06 pm
I swear you dumb sobs give most of us true blue kentucky fans a bad name. This team will be fine when it comes time to count. If we all get behind our time maybe Meeks and Patterson will stay and we will be stacked next year. Yea Billy G is a an ass but Rupp was too and look where that got him. Five national championships! So if you people dont like whats going on. Go cheer for somebody else! We wont miss you when we win our 8th national championship and be the first to 2000 wins. Go jump off a cliff you inbreed redneck dumbazzes.
January 31st, 2009 at 11:14 pm
BCG could possibly get the job done but he’s a very confusing coach and the failure to make any kind of adjustments during the game baffles me, he seems really stubborn in his ways. Harris and Porter…why do these two get so much playing time? They have nothing to offer.
January 31st, 2009 at 11:15 pm
94… i know they havnt come in yet, but how bout valorino/ross miller/euton/zollo
January 31st, 2009 at 11:20 pm
Bryan, Please stop using the Name Of JESUS in vain! This shows
you don’t know HIM! Say OBAMA instead if you have to say
something.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:24 am
106….so you are already calling players that have yet to even practice yet, some of the worst players in UK history…WOW!…well if you are so good at predicting the future, how about you throw some lottery numbers my way…and at least say something productive.
February 1st, 2009 at 1:44 am
k yea, there are some retarded people on here. I used to like this site because the commenters were optimistic.
Here’s a novel idea. Let the players play, the coaches coach, and as fans just cheer for them.
February 1st, 2009 at 1:48 am
I am a little late here, but I could not agree more! We are like a self destructing bomb as a fan base. What some of our fans say about our team and coach is absolutely unacceptable and just not right by any voice or opinion. We are a team and we should all respect that fact and what it means.
These kids are playing their hearts out for us. Ill will and BS comments are destructive and useless. Tubby was unhappy because of this BS and now his team, which has limited talent is in the top 25. You, we ran this man off and if you don’t chill the Fuc* out we will run BCG off as well. Our fan base is enough to drive any coach mad, and yes Pitino fuc*** us…..but he is a great coach and is winning games and is capable of dealing sith your, our bull shi*!!!
Anyone one this blog that actually gives a crap about this team and its players needs to stand up to the dic* heads that’s say these things….. I am, Fuc* you and your negative BS! I love my team, my coach and everything UK. If you don’t like it step in front of a bus you freaking losers!
GO CATS AND GO BCG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: To the KSR Staff, thanks for everything and your awesome contribution to the UK team and fan base. I love this site and I hate the people that try and an infect it!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:16 am
111. This post sucks. What is the point in calling out the misbehavior of a few idiots. it will happen every single loss- your making a post about it will only call more attention.
February 1st, 2009 at 8:33 am
One year ago (at this point in the schedule), UK had 9 losses. Put that into perspective and smoke it.
February 1st, 2009 at 8:57 am
I agree. We’ve lost two games in SEC play and everyone is going
nuts. It’s not like they want to lose! Come on people, get it
together and rally around the team! Support is what these young
men need right now, not all this crying bull! It’s not like we go
undefeated every year in SEC play. We win some and lose some!
GO CATS!
February 1st, 2009 at 8:59 am
112 we have played a weaker schedule. With Harris and Porter on the floor for the amount of minutes they play, the amount of improvement will be limited. We need to win now but these two young, who seem to be fine young men and represent UK well, are so limited that we will not have any chance to be much better than mediocre. Harris and Porter won’t shot enough to keep a defense interested in them and both are below average ballhandlers. Harris is a good defender but is hopeless on the offensive end. Porter has a hard time staying in front of his man, can beat no one off the dribble, won’t shoot and when he does is only shooting 31%. Both have had thier chance to contribute to leading UK back to the top, now it is time to look elsewhere. They must be very good players in practice but I don’t think the NCAA (or maybe NIT) will look at our practices when deciding our seed.
February 1st, 2009 at 9:59 am
Bryan the Intern has a valid point with this point. Is he talking to me, my friend sunnycat, or the emotional Cats fans that go as the wind blows? “Kentucky basketball is a way of life.” As such, our quality of life has been, well, piss poor! 5-2 so far in the SEC? Maybe in football? Leonitus would not even call that a ‘good start’. At this point we all “hope to win.” This isn’t the Make-a-Wish Foundation! This is the University of Kentucky! Quit lowering our standards, intern.
February 1st, 2009 at 10:19 am
Perry Stevenson is a choker and that is the 2nd time he has done it. Some guys just get overtaken by nerves in crucial situations. It is the coaches job to not have them in the game in those situations.
February 1st, 2009 at 11:46 am
Embarassing? Try living herr in the heart of enemy territory, Raleigh-Durham, NC with all this going on. It give “An Army of One” a whole new meaning. I printed several of these blogs for my colleagues that root for UNC. To a man they cite the Doherty years here. And the Duke fan, I can’t even stomach discussing us with him under any circumstance. Some things never change, like a healthy fatred of Duke.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I totally agree with the post! If you do not have love for this team, then please pull for another team…WE DO NOT NEED YOU!
February 1st, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Hey morons you sound like UofL fans.Your gonna slit Porter’s throat? Real classy, Porter would beat u down.
February 1st, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I think a lot of the idiots making commints that are bad for the team need to find another team to root for. Because if u were a true cat fan then u would see what was going on here at kentucky. first off when the cats were 5-0 people started getting stupid. saying they could win out in sec play. people why should this years team be any better than last years team. look who is coming in next year to play. even if meeks and patterson leave it is going to take Billy G. at least three or four years before u are going to start seeing final four caliber team. Like or not that is how it is. It wouldn’t have been like this if tubby had of left what pitino left for him. Don’t blame the man that is turning this program around, blame the man that drove us down that dead end road for ten years! Look who gets to play on this team that wouldn’t even get to play at western. (Hint) Tubby’s recruits the only reason they play here is because they are older and their backups are freshman. (except Meeks) So the haters need to shut up. I Bet if they start winning again all u haters will be giving praise to them again. Where i come from we call these type of people BACKSTABBERS!!!!!!
February 1st, 2009 at 1:24 pm
Its because of posters like the article mentioned that i normally avoid this site. Immature, juvenile and completely uneducated posters
February 1st, 2009 at 10:30 pm
120 You go root for another team since you are so easily satisfied. The reason Tubbys recruits are on the floor is BCG’s guys can’t get off the bench. I mean you recruit a JUCO ( Galloway )with two years left and he can’t get a run against Porter, Liggins has no idea what is going on when he is out there, Miller had a good game against SC but who knows if BCG will let him see the floor again next game.
February 1st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
I have asked this question before and got no answer so I will ask again………If BCG is such a great coach who else was trying to land him……..What I think is sad is a school like MINNESOTA comes in a lures away one of the BEST coaches in the country from mighty UK and we get some scrub from Texas who can’t beat anybody worthy of mentioning and everyone is so happy and willing to wait three, four, five years.
February 1st, 2009 at 10:35 pm
sortleader2 we gotta stick together…………
February 2nd, 2009 at 9:20 am
looks like people are becoming ok with mediocracy. I dont want to “slit porters throat,” or “jump off a bridge” or whatever…. but these losses are NOT ok. We cannot just say, we lost, its not the end of the world. We all falling into the trap. we need some urgency, and we HAVE to be able to put away an opponent, and win close games AT HOME.
Sunny cat(above) you must be an absolute idiot. Tubby took the keys to a caddy and gave back the keys to a beat up pinto. Please go be a Minnesota fan. This program was never in as bad of shape as it was when Tubby left except when we were on probation. Please go root him on elsewhere.
Bottom line….things are never as good or as bad as people make them out to be. We have good talent coming in and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think the program is improving, but like i said, we need some urgency. We have to win close games at home against an inferior opponent. These losses are not OK. It should be next to impossible to come into rupp and win….any team….much less a USC team that is decent at best.
